What has happened to that CD when you purchase the Game from the high street it used to be really Quick enter CD code and bingo 15 mins later +or- bingo the game is installed.

Not anymore when the game you purchase off the High Street when it is controlled by STEAM, you put in your disc to install the game and on 3 occasions its taken 2 and half hours to install because the actual installation comes from that damn company called STEAM,i also realise that STEAM is great for ppl who live in areas away from citys etc but its out of control.

you send in a ticket to ask whats going on 4 days later an answer comes back quite often its the wrong answer to your question, yeah STEAM waters me off in a big way.

Why should we have to wait so long for the game to download when I have purchased the CD then more often than not you have to wait as well while STEAM patches the game, my download speed is 12mb I don't have any other slow download problems from any other place on the net.

i.e. Deus Ex H R...Resident evil 6. p.s. and yes we all know about Piracy.

you can install a game from DVD even if it needs steam activation

only thing what will happen is steam does the patches anyway after the install

Thanx JackBig,yes I am aware of that, but the patching of the game can still take hell of a long time,i don't get why it takes so long to download from STEAM and I know they have over 4 million members including ppl like me who doe's not use STEAM to purchase anything at all,in my opinion STEAM should make what ever changes are needed to make this issue go away.

I am no geek when it comes down to servers and the like what I do say if you are giving a service to the general public STEAM has an obligation to correct this issue,at the end of the day the boss of STEAM abe newell I think his name is has got the money and that's that.

There are upsides to this however. Aside from not having to worry about the condition of your disks (which those of us that have, or are raising children understand), you also can access your games from anywhere with a solid internet connection. So if you travel to a friends place on the other side of the world and cannot afford to also bring along your computer/laptop... you can access the services (Steam, Gamefly, Origin, etc.) as long as you have connection. It also saves on storage. I have hundreds of games on Steam and a handful of other titles on various other clients. I do not have to store them physically... I only need the disk space. Even then, if I am not currently using the title I can uninstall it to make room for new blood. If I want to enjoy an old title I have not played in sometime I can simply re-download and get back at it rather quickly. Dropping the physical production of disks also reduces the overhead for a company... which of course is good for them... we'll probably never see that benefit back on our end as I do not see them dropping the prices of future games. Ultimately, I think Steam is great... my only fear is that one day they collapse on themselves and I will have no access any longer. Pros v. cons though, I think my fear is only a hypothetical and is therefore significantly outweighed by the positives.
Also, if you have not noticed... we are not far from the complete elimination of physical software. Even the consoles are only short time away from eliminating their existence.
That is the smartest thing I have ever heard anyone say about anything.

Steam pretty much downloads as fast as your internet speed allows.

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Assassins Creed 3 and downloading it's 11 or so gigabytes took about 30 minutes. Which is about the same amount of time extracting all that from DVDs would take.

In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'

My downloads take forever on Steam, but that's because I had to set a download limit, because for some reason, my wireless adapter will take up literally ALL of my bandwidth for downloads.
