    Do you own or rent?

If you own, cut a square of carpet out and see what's underneath. You can always put it back once it's dry. Carpet patches easy.

If you rent, get your landlord to do it.

Found a slab leak. Hello insurance claim.

Edit: I'm actually full of surprises to the point I surprise myself. I forgot that I actually elected to have a small portion of my paychecks go into investment into the company I work for since I started. Nice chunk of money to be gained by withdrawing all my stock to help pay for that instead of an insurance claim.

If you are not claiming Neo and why spend your investment money, unless you do not have insurance or its not worth claiming because of your excess. I scratch my head.

The leak turned out to be above the foundation and costed a grand total of $130

    Not bad.
    Your bitterness, I will dispel

    Well, that worked out well.

My parents had new siding put on their (my) house and discovered all kinds of water damage.

Like $200 to fix; if it's above ground it's a quick job so you don't get killed on labor costs.
