Simply put, half of my trainers are WER crashing on start, and the others aren't. Examples of the ones that crash are all three of the Alien Breed Trilogy trainers, the GTA4: Episodes trainer, Magicka, and Front Mission Evolved. I don't know what these all have in common (I thought it might be Steam, but the version of GTA4 I have isn't on Steam). I'm using an 'offline key' but that never caused an issue before. I haven't upgraded to IE10, either.

    I'm using Windows 7 x64

Trainer code gets refactored in order to combat anti-cheating devices implemented at games (this part is invisible to the end user) and can have different results with security products on your computer.
    Your bitterness, I will dispel

So, what you are saying is that the trainers I have used previously with no problem is on the same system config may just not work because of things I have no control over, so sorry.

    Am I reading that correctly?

No, what he is saying is that something obviously changed on your system, most likely some security software that has updated. Our trainers didn't mysteriously change on your PC overnight. We have no idea what might be causing an issue on YOUR machine. You'll have to determine what it is. Maybe use System Restore to go back to a previous version of your system when they were working. Other things known to cause issues are IE10 and Windows 8, especially with older builds of the trainers. We have updated many trainers to work with IE10 and Windows 8 and they are labeled as such, but need to be re-downloaded.

The Alien Breed Trainers I've just re-downloaded today, the others are old versions (but for the latest versions of the game, but I think they were marked Windows 8 Compatible when I downloaded them). The only security products I'm using are MSE and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. Disabling both of them doesn't prevent a crash. I never updated to IE10 or Windows 8. I'm using an 'offline key' to run these trainers because my MBB device doesn't allow for the trainers to connect during the 'Authenticating' phase. I don't know why, it's only a simple Port 80 call. I've emailed the manufacturer, and they don't know why either.

Previously (before using the modem I'm using now), trainers would hang, and then crash when 'authenticating', but restarting them would get them to work.

I just downloaded your 3 personalized trainers that you downloaded today and they work fine on my Win 8, 64-bit, IE10 machine with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes installed. No idea what might be interfering with them on your machine, could be a browser addon or extension or some other security app or setting that got changed or updated. Again, system restore might be an option.

I'm not using Windows 8 or IE10. What Firefox extensions would interfere with a trainer that won't be connecting to the authentication servers? I've only got the usual stuff (Quicktime, Flash, Java). The only one that specifically blocks anything is AdBlock Plus.

What kind of background processes unintuitively interfere with CH trainers (things like a BitCoin client or an OC tool)?

It's really hard to know. The trainers use IE components to authenticate even if your default browser is FF. It's a simply port 80 call to the server, so anything on your PC or network that might be reading it could interfere.
