I've got my sims educated as much as they can (grade school through to university), I've saved up enough, put down an NPP and nobody wants to work at the plant, the land value/happiness nosedives (which I can understand), but as soon as I take the plant away the happiness goes back up, but if I look on the overall screen it's the opposite effect, the happiness goes up overall when the plant's there.

What am I doing wrong? I specifically zoned a residential/commercial area around the plant (which btw has all the upgrades), for the workers, yet people move in and don't want to work at it, they all flock to my solar plant on the other side of the city.

    Any ideas?

Simcity is "famous" for it's green outlook. So your inhabitants will prefer green energy and workplaces. Thus going to the solar plant first.

Consider researching the improved solar panel. With that and a very small, also researched, windmill plant i can power my entire city _and_ the regional archeology. With power to spare.

Already have that unlocked, but it's taking up way, WAY too much space for a smaller power output (two or three city blocks for about 250mw, whereas the NPP puts out more without any additional modules). I'd rather have one NPP backed up by other plants (and oddly oil/gas/coal plants don't cause the same loss of happiess that an NPP does).

    My thinking is:

    A. Get the NPP working

    B. Demolish the solar plant and use that space for zoning RCI

    C. Put a second power plant near the edge of my map to back up if the NPP goes down or spews radiation everywhere.

I had the same problem. Had to force it by demolishing my wind farm first and let them sit there with no power for a while before they would finally go to work there. I knew it would lower property values (would YOU want to live next door to a nuclear reactor), so I put it in back by my sewage treatment plant and garbage dump. Smart right? Wrong! Next thing I know freaking Godzilla shows up and stomps right through my expensive power plant and FLOODS the whole city with radiation! Now the habitable zone is about 2 square blocks off in a corner. My choices are to either abandon the city or sit and wait it out which takes who knows how long.
