I see that besides have trainers, many games have savegame editors. I'm just wondering what this does exactly?

It edits the savegame.

For example, you have a saved game in which you have 3000 gold, you can edit the savegame to have 3001 gold.

Trainers mostly contains "on" and "off" features. Editors let you the choice to edit things on your own. An example: A trainer has the feature "unlimited gold", while on it set and freezes your amount of gold to 999.999.999 instead of an editor where you can set the amount to 1-999.999.999

A savegame editor edits your savegame file instead of an editor which edits values on the fly (while the game is running).

Thats a really smart Question from theguardian 1130 and thank you for the really great answers,sometimes i feel a bit Thick because at my age i really don't know a great deal about editors etc.
