When I start the various trainers I've downloaded(only the ones that authenticate), once they start authenticating(seen at the bottom of the Trainer), it simply freezes.

In order to shut it down, I need to open the Task Manager, even clicking that nice red X doesn't work. And while it shouldn't need saying, the trainers don't work due to being frozen like that.

This has only been a problem for the last few weeks. Any suggestions?

It sounds like something your PC is blocking the authentication process. You will have to go through the troubleshooting process of disabling programs not critical to Windows (read: if disabling it does not prevent Windows from booting successfully, it isn't critical) to identify if they are not the problem.

I've tried turning off my various anti-virus programs, as well as my firewalls.

Neither of which solved the problem.

Completely uninstall all AV, firewall and other security software. Right click run as admin on trainer. Make sure not using Windows 8.

Please see this article describing further steps as these programs may have install services and other items that may still be active.
