welcome to a game where skill and orientation is being rewarded! =P

trust me, if you died a couple of times and had to travel 10 minutes back to where you got killed, you'll memorize the way. you won't need a map in those cases. =)

and if that's not enough, try this Link
you might find it useful. =)
its so fast it can do an infinite loop in thirty seconds!! =)

Also later on in the game (not gonna spoil anything just in case) you can teleport from any bonfire to any of the "main" bonfires, it makes tavel a lot easier.

Downside is getting to that point -w-

If we're using the trainer, (or so skilled that we can plow through everything with the starting gear) we can always take the Master Key and pretty much go through the backdoors, skip most battles and get the teleport ability in like, under an hour at most...
(Not counting using Option 3 to make all combat, including boss fights, up to that point a meaningless OHKO hack-and-slash.)

Exactly. After completing the game just once, I already remember most of the areas and the location of those drops.

Adding maps to RPGs is only a recent thing. I've been playing games like Might and Magic, Wizardy, and Ultima since the late 80s. None of those games have maps, and they're some of the best games I've ever played. Games don't require maps, they don't require quest logs. That's one of the things that really drew me to Dark Souls, it goes back to the roots. Does things old school.

Having to do everything by memory alone helps BUILD your memory. Here in Generation ADHD, where people can't be bothered to spend 10 seconds reading quest text, expect everything to show up on their shiny minimaps, and want full 3D maps showing every single detail, it's no wonder there is a post complaining that there's no map. Really is sad to see.

Unless you're using god mode (which I assume you are, since you're posting on a trainer forum) you will die. A lot. Thousands upon thousands of times. In so doing, you will run through the same areas many, many times. This ingrains them in your memory. You won't need a map when you've seen the whole game a thousand times through from all the dying :-)

Actually any role-played character would draw a map and make quest logs for himself.

Good organising is important when dealing with so many tasks at the same time.

But back then, either there isn't much resources to do a fogged map that reveals more as you explore or they just want the players to draw their own map and do logging themselves.

And now those causal gamers just don't bother even reading those logs because there is enough stuff in real life to do already for them. There is no reason to make things so tough for them in game. They are here to have fun after all, not take on another job that does not pay.
