Yoshi DOES have the ability to grow large, and here it is... since Yoshi can't break brick blocks (Mario, Luigi and Wario can), you're gonna have to put on either a M, L, or W cap.
This is what you do: Yoshi HAS to wear a Mario red cap. Go to the Whomp world and go to the area where there is a red "?" box and two brick blocks next to each other. As "Mario", open the red ? box and a bob-omb will come out. before he blows, break the brick with the red mushroom and lose the cap with the Bob-omb blowing up. As Yoshi, get the Red Mushroom and, voila! Yoshi is big.
Also, as big Yoshi, he does not use his tongue, he does the regular punching and kicking just like Mario, Luigi, and Wario.

P.S.: This only works after getting the Giant Whomp Star.
