I might get this, although its kind of dumb they would make you pay $30 for a standalone expansion that probably doesn't have that many differences than the original except for some newer units the first person mode for using stationary guns and the ability to have naval port invasions, supposedly.I would make the argument that it should have been an actual expansion instead of a standalone one, but that would prevent many users from being introduced to the Total War series since they wouldn't have to pay for the core game. Thoughts? Opinions? Expectations?

I, for one, won't be getting this game until it hits the $5 rack on steam. I have EVERY SINGLE Total War title and I am so ****ed off at CA that I will not support them anymore. Shogun 2 was the last straw for crappy game design. Tired of spending $50 for a game to just go through heartache and then more with patches/ putting out more money for DLC that should have been part of the original game. Medieval 2 was the last decent release that CA put out. Empire was a rush job, Napoleon was another release that should of been DLC being it was so similiar. I mean why would you buy a fuedal Japan game that has gattlin guns in it? Shogun (original) was such an awesome game. To turn it into a game that will focus more on bullets than swords is silly.
If you can't say it face to face, don't say it here!!

To a point yes, but if you ever studied about the FALL OF THE SAMURAI you would understand that Gatling guns are > swords. It fits the historical mold the CA has been following with their games.
The fall of one power is typically caused by the advent of a technology owned by another.

I agree with Gamejunky
I only bought Shogun 2 Limited Edition but i refuse to buy any DLC, which do not add much more to the game
i pre-ordered the Fall of the Samurai with option to cancel later on but i did see there are some significant differences (appart from units) to this stand-alone expansion then the origional game such as historical campain which follows exact soryline as written in the history books and warships are now able to bombard cities and armies

Only frustration with Total War series was Medieval 2 since the unit AI blew. But FotS kinda is a turn off with the inclusion of guns but being a history buff its understandable to use this time period. And btw gattling guns > swords only at range.

I bought it myself. While I am slightly irritated about the cost, I know that I will get my money's worth out of the game due to the mod scene. That is perhaps one of the best things about the total war series is its replay-ability due to mods.
