So is it possible?

My top most keys F1-F12 do not work.

Sorry, no way to change the F1 activation key. You can download software that can emulate the F keys and bind them to something else.

Wouldn't using the virtual keyboard get a little annoying while trying to play a game?

You only have to press F1 once, unless you are playing a game like FEAR 2. So I think the trouble is worth it if you want the trainer to work.
