Problem is they never came out with episode three so it will probaly be an all new story line with no closure from he second half life you cant make a threequel and expect someone new to the series to know whats going on
I think thats one thing that companies go for. If you produce a game with a story that continues off of previous titles, then someone who wants to know the whole story will go and buy those other titles, which in turn, makes the company more money. Its a win-win on both sides due to the fact that the player gets more games at lower prices (because the older ones are usually pretty inexpensive), and the company gets more money then they would from a new game with a different story. I think thats a good enough reason for Valve to make a third one.
Or you just go to google and type (game name) wikia. Any game that's worth it has at least a storyline article.
If not, then Wikipedia almost always has one among general information such as how critics reviewed it and stuffz like zat.

While you can go to Wikia to find out the storyline, in my opinion, its not the same as playing through the story yourself. I would much rather play through the previous games to get the full story and feel, rather than just reading it on a website like Wikia.
hahah but there's still a chance of it. Valve may want to surprise consumers.
Even though this following article isn't based on fact, it was published after the "Valve Squash" announcement.

Well i must add i have been a paid member of IGN and normally they do not Bullshxx people, so after all we could be in for a great suprise fingers crossed and just for members who do not know IGN its a good place for all kinds of unfo. that us gamers love
I think there could be a chance that Portal and Half-Life will combine for the next game, but who knows? It would be interesting, though it's hard to say if it could happen given that as of Portal 2 the timeline's gone forward at least ten years.
Hey, that's a fun idea.
GORDON FREEMAN + CHELL CO-OP!
Where Gordon Freeman crowbar's an undead to death, Chell uses portals to teleport them into the nearest ravine or close to the nearest explosive barrels.
I know, I know, it's impossible. I was just thinking out loud.
