I have never played a game of this sort before, but in an effort to try and help I'll link to you a Gamefaqs walkthrough.
Of course, a walkthrough (usually) offers complete information so be careful you don't read anything you don't want to know. Such as the ending. I recommend using CTRL+F (search) to find specific keywords, such as Hilda perhaps?
