Right those that are doing this quest and can not see the light or unable to focus the crystal use this work around.

I had a problem with this quest but not with focusing the occulatory, but with talking to the researcher for some reason he would no un-bug and had to setstage until after the stage where you follow him and then after focusing the occulatory to where you must talk to the arch-mage guy...

Did not have that issue when redoing that quest. To see if I could do it without set-staging it.

I killed him after i spoke to him, b4 i went to see the archmage...
Finished quest (will not spoil) but just wondering if that npc was essential. I killed him because I did not want him to go spilling the beans to his buddies.

I could not get a way of not killing him. But then again I do tend to do a random npc killings lol even if they are important lol

I had a problem with this quest. I've got approximately 60 hours of play in with only using the TGM cheat. The only bug I've had thus far is here.

When he unlocks the door, he's lying on the ground as if almost dead. It gets to the point where you're supposed to follow him but he just sits there. I reloaded the closest save game (fortunately I saved after finding the focus crystal) this time he crawls to the top of the oculous. Then the quest hangs. My work around is to simply open the console, click him, and type KILL. this will NOT kill him but bring him to a standing and continues the quest dialog.

This has completely removed Oblivion from my absolute favorite game! Only waiting for a High resolution pack and some bump mapping, normal mapping, or parallax mapping. I can't believe this is absent in Skyrim for PC!

I love you. This really troubled me before I found a different work-around.
