For those of you who recognize me, hello to all, good to see you again, however im simply dropping by for a quick message. For those who don't know me, well... I dont care too much, but you should still listen to my message. It important to the future of the internet.

A bill was introduced into congress today in regards to the first U.S internet censorship. DNS Blocking is the same technology that China and North Korea use to censor their web traffic. If we allow them this, what else do you think they'll try and pass? As the general population, we cannot sit back and allow this to happen. we must atleast try to get it stopped. here is the website the sign the petition, the more signatures we can get the better. This is our future we're talking about, and this is one of the things we can try and help shape. Lets not this up, shall we?

(please don't remove this on grounds of advertising lol. im just trying to spread word of a good cause)

Oh, and if you were thinking of trying to automate a script to sign hundreds of signatures, you probably shouldn't. hacking or cheating the petition will just give them more reason to pass the bill, and possibly make the petition invalid.

I believe we can make atleast somewhat of a difference. Liking the above link on social networking sites will also spread the message to other people who can hop on board the petition too. Feel free to share it with everyone you can!

this goes beyond just blocking file sharing and such. they would have the ability to not only see what anyone is doing, but also censor out or block whatever they pleased. also, this is refering to the U.S, not NZ. I know other countries have censorship, the petition is to try and stop it from happening here.

i know its for u.s.a but my point waas that it was a big deal here before it passed and now its here nobody gives a damn its only the ones who are looking at dodgy sites that are stressing out about being caught and thats what this bill is for and if your not ashamed can you name what you are looking at that will be affected by this bill

right, but they can mark any content they please as "bad content". hell, Ive had to do research for my Cyber Forensics about certain tools hackers use, and i ran into so many red flags while looking for legitimate information. while that system is annoying, i can still find my info. with the censorship, i would've never been able to find it in the first place. its not youd be able to explain your reasoning for visiting whatever site to someone, even if it is a legitimate reason. the content just wouldn't show up, no matter what your reasons for accessing it.

This actually IS bad news, because it gives copyright holders the right to request shutdowns of websites based on no info whatsoever.

Cheathappens would be a prime target because it hosts images and discussions relating to copyrighted content.

Yeah, the bill is that stupid. Basically if it passes, unless the website hosting certain content is also owned by the rights holder for that content, then the website is in violation of this new law and is subject to penalty, which in most cases would be immediate shutdown with no prior warning and blacklisting of the IP address.

The thing that you're not understanding is that they are not going to block dodgy sites only, they are going to block whatever challenges them and their sovereignty. Any speech on the internet that goes against their ideas and fundamentals can be blocked by them completely.
