Dead Island Discussion
It's possible it would cause a VAC ban, but you're meant to turn VAC off and play single player.
Even if you wanted to goof around and see if it worked with your friends on LAN, you should turn VAC off.
Keep in mind though that these trainers are intended for single player use only.

Borderlands for example, Trainers work in Co-Op.
But as mentioned, Make sure VAC is disabled, and keep in mind that only works for YOUR game, not others. Joining other peoples games doesnt mean they disabled VAC themselves.
Besides, if your going to play Co-Op, just load up on money before you do, thats really all you need, Money and Medkits.
Unless you're playing privately with friends and they themselves are cheating/are aware you are and don't mind, it's generally best to have a separate character file for public co-op/matchmaking that is never touched with the trainer in any way. Loading up on cash and medkits can quickly lead to people wondering how you're buying so many weapons that one-shot zombies every time you visit a hub, and trading enough medkits to the other players that the "survival" part of the game is essentially reduced to "just ask that one guy for a stack of medkits so we never have to worry about a challenge."
Other than that, if you're sure your friends do not mind you cheating, using Hamachi to play a LAN game is probably your safest bet - otherwise, make sure you toggle the "VAC secure game" option to off before starting the server, and before starting the trainer double check. Better safe than sorry, no?
