In case anyone just has Mass Effect 2 and does not have the first game and would like to import chracters from the first game there is a site called MassEffectsaves.com.
At this site you will find save games for completed playthroughs of Mass Effect 1. The kind of svaes vary in terms of how the game was played. You could download and import a save from this site that has sheapard as male, female, fully Paragon, fully Renegade or a mix of both renegade and paragon. Aslo with either Shepard romancing anyone of the available people or no one.
I've used the different saves from this site in the past and they are virus free.
The reason I use the saves from the site is so I don't have to play through the original game unless I really want to.
