They don't /have/ to be be exact in saying.. such and such happens, it's a prequel. If you played Deus Ex 1, THAT will tell you what happened. A nanite plague was released to try to control the worlds population called the grey death, I think the cure to let everyone be augments was released because I don't remember seeing neuropozyne in Deus Ex 1 though I'm wondering if Sarif Industries eventually had to close its doors. There'll probably be a sequel to this game which'll be another prequel.
They said this game would lead to the creation of UNATCO, the anti-terrorist organization. I can see why it would come from this, with how the world is and how they manipulate events.
I know and that's why the game suffers. No matter what you do it will end in one way. Nano augments replace mechanical implants instead. We have MJ12 and apparently Jensen's ex to thank for this.

Deus Ex isn't the only one to suffer this problem. ALL prequels have this problem. Whether it's a book, film, TV show, game- whatever... you can add as much new story into it as you want, but inevitably everyone knows how it has to end. That doesn't make it any less great.
Take Star Wars for example. Episode 3 had a lot of new and unknown story to it, but everyone who saw the original trilogy knew exactly how it was gonna end before Episode 1 was out.
i just finished it last nite it was a very good game beat it under 20 hrs i pressed the middle button at the end of the game
I think I was a little over a day.
