Is it possible to play this game without having EA's malware "Origin" installed?

I'd rather not pollute my system with that crap.

Trust me, it's really not that bad. As a piece of software, independent of all of EA's politicking and whatnot, it's actually rather good. It's like steam, only a bit shinier and with a white and orange color scheme. The interface is just as snappy, if not moreso - and it's leaps and friggin' bounds ahead of GFWL, let me tell you.

Now, I am concerned with the possibility that the games purchased will only remain downloadable for a year after purchase, but I suspect strongly that that is just to cover their butts - you could probably find something similar in Steam's TOS, never to actually be enforced. Really, time will tell if this (largely ill-gotten) Steam-competitor will actually prove to compete.

Origin is definitely not malware, its just a download manager of sorts that is all, and in some cases in the future be used to activate a game.

Just because you don't want it installed doesn't make it malware.

I have Origins and its crap. You can't backup and restore your games. If you uninstall you must re download. Origins was once EA Download manager. This piece of crap is around 3 years old.

You CAN back up your games once downloaded. Just back up the download directory once you've installed the game and now you have them for later. Only "problem" is once you've done this, you have to initiate the install from the back up directory. DO NOT copy them into a clean Origin install directory or Origin will not see them and will delete it when you try to re-download and install. Once you've installed from the back up Origin will see the game as installed and function as a launcher.

So far, I've had no problems with the 15 games I've purchased from them.

I have also backed up several games that I have downloaded though Origin. Honestly I like it more than steam because you do not need it running to play a game.
