    If you click on steam store, then go top left, right click the drop box you can opt to go steam offline, each time you start your computer it will confirm if you want steam offline, this will work until you choose to go online but will then update everything, as unfortunatly, i've just done

    Totally with you. Unpatched Crysis 2 worked a dream.

    Since the patches have come out, I can't play more than 10 minutes without some game-breaking bug popping up and ruining the game experience.

    No, not again please... that's what I thought when I saw the infamous yellow progress index near my Shogun 2 link in Steam. Yes, as many of you have already noticed, a new update has been released.

    I didn't post this topic to ask "when will trainer be ready?", but to share a very simple idea: is it difficult to put in Steam a damn query windows that asks if "you want to update your game or not"... I mean it shouldn't be too difficult for the guys at Valve. And if they receive a lot of requests, they will be forced to do it, right?

    So there's the idea: ask them for a delayable update in Steam games ALL TOGHETER!!!

    What do you think about it? Feel free to comment as you want!

    Oh, just to be precise: this is not against cheathappens, you guys do a great work as always and you changed my way of playing with PC since I subscribed the lifetime account!

    go to steam right click on the game go to properties and updates and turn it off . its a nightmare i hate it good thing is if you turn the updates to you do not download automatically then your achievments still run for a month after the patch is released wich is plenty of time. steam have stated in the past that the idea is to make it so the gamers can jump straight into a game without having to download patches from websites and they have no intention to change this turning updates off is the only way to do this . and tbh i dont agree with steam about gamers being able to jump in i kow loads of peeps that do not leave steam on permanantly as it drains bandwith . guess we should all email steam with this new idea ?

    @ bas879: That's the point... I DO like most of the online features, like the digital download of new games (I downloaded S2TW in less the 1 hour!), and I'D like to decide if to patch a game or not;

    @jmolle: turning off auto-update doesn't work, games just update themselves without permission; and about the "gamers can jump straight into a game without having to download patches from website", well it's not true when you have to wait 10-15-20 or even 30 minutes to play a game because it has to patch: i mean, if I want to play it right now, and maybe update it tomorrow, I should be able to do it! So yes, maybe we should ask Valve to implement something...

    I'm pretty sure businesses in the game industry LOVE auto updating too much. Back in the 90s/early 00s before Steam and the like were big, there would be a lot of complaints about bugs that were already patched, since people complained before they checked to see if there were any patches (or possibly didn't even know patches existed)

    Basically, Steam isn't going to change its policy because the people they rely on for profit, game companies, love the idea too much. You can complain all you want but I'm pretty sure at this point Steam doesn't believe people will stop using their service, rightfully so in my opinion.
