I have beaten the game, also tried to appease the other factions by giving them money/trade aggreements after being made shogunate and then being stabbed in the back by ALL of them the next season. If you want to play battles a lot, take your time on the march to Kyoto!
Now I don't know if it holds any merit, but I made sure not to touch any of the research cards when I had the 6 button on (only touched the card I wanted to use for that turn), and always turned 6 off after I highlighted the research for that turn. I also let the last research (epic arc.) run the entire course and never used the 6 button after. Like I said, it worked for me, not flaming the trainer, but only a few peeps have gone over taking kyoto without a hitch.

FYI: The first Shogun would usually crash if you had mega armies on the map and not enough koku to balance them. In other words, the game knew that you were using a cheat if the upkeep was way over what you possibly could have in the game.

I have not yet taken Kyoto and I have the exact same problem as OP described. I think it is trainer related since if I start a game without using it, quit, reload the game (still without the trainer) and continue I'm fine but as soon as I use the trainer and then quit the game the next time I reload I crash

Kyoto.... mmmm got an idea to test if the crash depends by Kyoto.
Next time i'll load again the saved game, i'll give the city as a gift to any remaining faction and see if something changes...

In my opinion i agree also to the fact that the games gives me the feeling that knows that i've cheated and/or doesn't like huge value of money and/or "strong" negative value of food surplus...

No way, i'm not able to establish peace with any faction and then to give Kyoto as a gift...

I haven't taken Kyoto, I am playing on legendary dif, I am on something like 30+ turn i have almost all of Japan except Kyoto and 1 of the smaller islands but when I press the end turn button with or without the trainer activated it crashes... I tried cancelling all building and army cues on all cities but nothing... probably nothing to do with the trainer...

Patched, problem still consists.

I have beaten the game 3 times now and the end result is the same, they hate you when you take Kyoto and although you make trade agreements and take your money (only way to make trade agreements)they declare war on you next turn and break all agreements.
If you want to take longer to get to the divide stage, don't research all the legendary dojos, each time you get one it creeps up the yellow bar. It's nice to have, but not necessary. Sumo research also eats 1 rice btw!!

Yep i red your post Gamejunky.

In many game i experienced the same AI "poor behavior"... no matter what you do, but if you rule, the next turn they want your scalp.

I've not tried yet your research hint, but thanks indeed
