VAC comes into effect on VAC-enabled servers only. This is the only time it will ever do any sort of scanning, banning etc. If you are connecting to non-secured servers or merely doing singleplayer campaigns and battles, then it shouldn't be an issue. I can't say how the MP or lobby system works on this game (it might be as clear cut as secured & non-secured), but the bottom-line is, if you only use a trainer in SP modes, you should be perfectly fine.

Just make sure, to be 100% safe, that you re-load the game a fresh if you wish to switch to MP, as this way the game's memory will be clear from any alterations.

    Cheers.

It also depends on if single player and multiplayer are connected in anyway. People got banned from Starcraft II for using cheats in single player because the achievements were linked.
