After playing DA:O and noticing Sandal with a bunch of dead bodies, and again in DA2 with dead bodies and a frozen Ogre, and with what Bodahn talks about him (The mages wanted to keep him).

I think Sandal is the first Dwarven Mage.

Should be interesting to see how the sequel's stories with Sandal continue.

Still was nice to see some old faces in the game, met 5 of them so far..

Alistair - With his "swooping is bad" comment :P
Zevran - up to no good as usual (hinting at him becoming a major player in future DA games - whenever there is one Antiva)
Leliana - More of an easter egg thing, walking about in Hightown.
Bodahn and Sandal of course :P
Flemeth - Naughty of her - no matter if you killed her not she escapes.

Not finished the game yet maybe more will appear :P

I went the Red Iron route, so wondering if I went for the smugglers I may have met up with some other oldies.

Maybe I should try also with a different DA:O story to continue from, one where Zevran is killed etc.

    Result!

    I am more convinced now...

If you keep talking to Sandal in your home, he will eventually spout out a long line about "magic will return" and "he will return".

I checked the Bioware boards for other people who found it, and a Bioware employee hinted that its a 1:100 chance for the speech to be triggered :P

He says a lot of cryptic things, I think he was around too much lyrium and its what made him off, y'know? Probably sees visions, and my theory is that spirits go into the lyrium to fuel magic, the dead. 'Returning to the stone', as the Dwarves say. Or, perhaps if you're around too much lyrium and get to be like him, you are just more sensitive to thing like that, which others can't see? He mentioned something about some dark lord or whatever returning, I believe, when I played. Said some woman in the house was looking scary, making me think he saw a dead woman.

I /doubt/ that suddenly dwarves would get mages, unless it was from a long line of dwarves that lived on the surface, away from lyrium.

The line he speaks of happens in a trance like state all serious.

The woman he refers to only happens to me when I romanced someone to stay there and is of course female :P

At the moment though too many many indications are in the previous game and in DA2 to suggest he is actually a mage.

    In DA1:

Bodahn hints that he is a natural at Enchanting, even though dwarves find it hard to do it normally.

He was found in the Deep Roads, something could have happened to him there to have found a magical way of life, pure lyrium maybe?

He decimated a room fool of darkspawn before the final battle. They were mostly splattered.

    In DA2:

Bodahn confesses that the Mage Tower in Ferelden may have wanted to keep him there, saying Sandal was a Savant - a wise person.

He again decimated darkspawn in the deep roads and managed to freeze an ogre in mid air while asked how - "Not Enchantment" so that hints at no weapons or enchantments but actual magical power.

His Speech about Magic will return etc.

His "Can I set fire to the house" comment at one point, if you play a nasty disposition towards Bodahn and Sandal through the game.

He is a Mage I tell you! And because he is quite the character in both games, we can assume he will be in them all. So maybe not just a mage but someone very important (not the Maker as silly people say on the Bioware forums >.<) perhaps he is acting his part well and is somehow watching over the hero's of each game.

Lol. I had a hunch that he had magic since DAO. I'm pretty certai of that now.

Anyhow, I think Bioware should combine DAO and DA2 to make a better DA3. They are complementary to each other.
