After defeating Vlad again I walk forward and the cutscene starts. However everytime this happens my wizard walks off the cliff while the cutscene is going and then it knocks me back to the last checkpoint. I don't have control of the guy while this is happening so I can't stop him. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes, it is a known issue and should be fixed soon. In the meantime, try any of the following.

Walk to the pottery on the left side and use that to block yourself.
Load up on spells in your queue to slow yourself down.
Cold (Self).
