    Dont buy the 450's...

As a rule of thumb for Nvidia cards..

x20 series = utter rubbish, just for watching vids and perhaps playing sims >.<
x30 series = just as bad as x20
x40-50 = A bit better bit doesnt support specific hardware benefits.
x60 = a cost effective but strong series of cards with most hardware benefits. Quiet when fully loaded usually.
x80+ = the best there is with all hardware benefits, sounds like a space shuttle taking off when fully loaded but hey :P

So go for a 1GB 460. Not much of a price difference over the 450, and you will be happier.

yes...the 500 series cards have better heat dissipation and their power consumption is more efficient. they could be said to be the improved version of the 400 series which most experts say was botched by nvidia.

Dont be fooled by the 560's they are not better than the 460's. But the 580's are indeed better than the 480's, as is the x70's.

In essence the 5 series was really a chance to upgrade the hardware a bit and fix issues affecting the 470 and 480 cards.

true...my 480's heat quite a bit and consume a lot of power. some would argue that the 500 series have been cosmetically altered but essentially have the same PCBs as the 400 series.

I would have to agree on the 580/480 with heat but with the 560/460 I hear there is slight improvement but no buy a new more expensive card improve. but I'm still quite happily running on my 285's so I'll leave an upgrade until 6/7's
