Video games have indeed come a very very long way. From old simple games such as Tetris, to Crash Bandicoot, and nowadays games like Halo Reach and Mass Effect 2. I'm pretty sure you can see where I'm going with this whole topic.

Which games do you think are better? Older games, or newer ones? when I say old games I mean games from before the release of 3rd gen consoles (PS3, XBOX 360)

And please leave graphics out of the equation. I'm talking about actual game-play here.

Personally I like today's games just fine. I sometimes do crack open one or two of my old titles but I enjoy today's games a lot more. This is because gameplay has improved, there are more features and the whole gaming experience is expanded. I mean in old games you would maybe have 6 weapons maximum but in today's games there can sometimes be hundreds. The A.I. has improved, and games are just all-round more advanced.

    What is your opinion?

I can't agree with new games having better stories.

New games that even have story beyond named characters and a setting are few and far between.

It depends... if I want something with a good story and characters I go for old games. If I want something with cool features then I go for new games.

    Example:
The stories for both Force Unleashed I & II just suck completely, and the games are waaaay too short, but they are fun because you can do all sorts of really cool things with the force etc.

The stories for the older Jedi Knight series are longer, more in depth, better characters, and so on, but they lack the 'flair' of the new games. Less fancy, you could say.

I prefer the new games. At least the new ones with a good story and gameplay.

i kinda like older games a bit more than most games of today because games of the past looked as if sincere effort was put into them for us to be entertained as opposed to today's games most of which fail to live up to expectations and look more like an effort to make a quick buck. gfx of today's games does look awesome though.

    I like older games.

    They're crafted, not manufactured.

Even in terms of graphics, I find the late 90s, early 00s to be the most pleasing to the eye in terms of style.

The same thing that's happened to movies ha happened to video games. The quality of graphics has certainly increased, but the quality of story hasn't gotten any better. There are gems every once in a blue moon, but for the most part, they've kinda gone down hill. That's why so many people love the oldies. They're all well made. I'd much rather play older games over some of the new ones.
