Civilization 5 Message Board  

Ok, So I got Civ 5 and read several places that you can place it in debug mode by editing two files. UserSettings.ini which has a place where you have "DebugMode = 0" which I changed to "DebugMode = 1" and a file config.ini where you have two settings one for "DebugPanel = 0" which I changed to "DebugPanel = 1" and another place where it said "OverlayDebug = 1" which I set to "OverlayDebug = 0". The info then says that one should be able to get debug window up by pressing tilde or the key above tab (in my kbd it is bar - | - but I hope that should not influence anything). However, when I do that nothing happens - what am I doing wrong?

I guess nobody here have a clue. I did a google on civ cheats and just about the only thing that came up was the DebugPanel and the trainer. The trainer is very version specific so I am reluctant to try it so the DebugPanel is my only option. Yet, when nothing happens even though I did edit the files as described I wonder if maybe my version of Civ5 is different and there is no DebugPanel feature on it at all.

My version is 1.0.0.621 or some such and I bought it in a store, not via steam. However, it is steam enabled and I got steam installed together with the game.

I have same game version as you. I changed the file config.ini from "DebugPanel = 0" to "DebugPanel = 1". During game, press ` or ~ key and debug panel comes up. I press "Reveal all" to remove fog of war and that is only one I use. Press ` or ~ key again to remove panel and continue to play. You have to do this every time you load a saved game or start a new game. The Trainer on this site work well but I recommend to save often as sometimes the game will crash when using the trainer. Have fun.

If this is your keyboard, the tilde is on the right, next to the enter key. You may need to use the Alt key with it.
