To be honest, this will be the same deal as KOTOR 2 was to Obsidian to ruin their reputation forever.

The fans have put so much hype into this shallow character that lends itself to catering to the lowest common denominator (See: 11 year olds who like fart jokes) that any real gamer will see it for what it is when they beat the 5-6 hour single player and get fed up with glitchy and uninspired multiplayer.

My prediction for DNF is a brief stint of popularity before people realize that despite being a 13 year game, it's no better than something that could have been churned out by an independent developer in 6-8 months as a straight-to-bargain-bin title. Except it's going to be $60 most likely, even for the PC version (Of which will likely be gimped to hell).

Meh, I've got better games waiting for me by the end of 2010 (Front Mission Evolved, Fallout: New Vegas, Arcania: Gothic 4, and more), so I won't even really notice DNF until well after release anyway.
    Yo.

Let's be honest about Obsidian. They have yet to finish a game they've put their name on. If they actually FINISH Fallout: New Vegas, it'll be their first completed game in the history of their company.

Whereas Gearbox has a solid record of making good, but not great, games.

But the idea of Duke Nukem Forever as the promised "greatest game ever" has been ingrained in the minds of my generation of PC gamers.

Lots of people posting in this thread don't remember the huge spreads of screenshots, only to find out that they were mockups and 3DRealms hadn't even bothered purchasing the right to use the engine they wanted yet. And then the next batch after they had, which were then scrapped in favor of a new engine. And the next batches of screenshots which were phoneys as well. And the "when it's done" lines being an excuse for them not working on it at all.

All they see is a game in development for 13 years--but not the actual story of that development.
In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'

I mean, there are people on this forum who weren't even born yet in 1997.

My whisky is older than some people on this forum. It makes me happy.

And yes, it's a scary time to wait for an overhyped game that will slam down way below expectations.

that makes me vintage wine i guess the game will live upto to its title...'Forever'....because a lot of us have been waiting for it...forever. but i'm definitely waiting for it and hoping against hope that it doesn't disappoint..or at the very least lives upto 50% of my expectation.

They have finished games, unfortunately their roster includes KOTOR II and Alpha Protocol. This does not bode well.

like that's gonna happen, the miayan, however you spell it, doomsday prediction is this generation's y2k, i seriously doubt anything's going to happen, if anything it'll be worrying about some inane doomsday prediction that'll get us all killed.

As for DKF, i'm not going to be too disappointed if it doesn't live up to the hype, after all, what game can, no game is flawless.

I reckon the Mayan's just ran out of room to put any more dates.

As for the game, I'll be perfectly happy with it as long as it's more than a half-assed generic shooter like most recent FPS'.
