- Mission 02 - Stronghold Assault
"Clear out the Crimson Pirate Fortress. It
lies in the heart of Akrid territory, so the pirates
have likely built the fortress in a hard-to-reach location."
Run down the path ahead and grapple to the roof of
the awning on the building to the right to find a SHOTGUN.
Shatter the frozen Dongo Akrid and activate the DATA
POST (1/11).
You'll run across a MACHINE GUN next to a Snow Pirate
corpse. To the left there is another SHOTGUN and further
ahead there will be a pickup of HAND GRENADES along
with one more pickup of HAND GRENADES up ahead on the
right. Blast the car on the left side, near the concrete
debris to find one more pickup of HAND GRENADES and
check to left of the small building on the right side
to find a SHOTGUN once the car is destroyed along with
a MACHINE GUN beside it. Two Dongos will pop up from
the snow in the back of you one right after the other.
Several Dongos will pop up from the ground as you walk
closer to the overhead bridge up ahead. Use the explosive
barrels to your advantage and shoot them with the shotgun
as they roll toward you. Dive out of the way with a
roll if they get too close (push in on left analog +
tap left analog direction + A). Two MACHINE GUNS will
be off to the left side - one is under a car. One SHOTGUN
is under the small piece of concrete to the left side
beside the overhead bridge and finally another MACHINE
GUN is to the right side near some fallen debris. Activate
the DATA POST (2/11)
in front of the overhead bridge and destroy the vehicle
next to the Data Post for a ROCKET LAUNCHER.

While walking under the overhead bridge turn left to
find a MACHINE GUN. A Dongo will rise up from behind
the concrete debris on the left past the bridge. There
is another MACHINE GUN in the area where the Dongo is.
Two more Dongos will appear down the road ahead and
one of them will automatically roll toward you from
the right side so be ready to blast him with a shotgun
blast. Grab the MACHINE GUN under the awning to the
right if needed and continue down the street ahead.
Two more Akrid will attack at the intersection. Stock
up on some T-ENG by blasting the tank to the side next
to another MACHINE GUN then activate the DATA POST (3/11)
on the right. When you get near the Data Post, a Chryatis
will bust out of the ground on the right side. Blast
him with a shotgun in his heat sources and keep your
distance. Turn right at the intersection and there will
be MACHINE GUN and pickup of HAND GRENADES next to the
Snow Pirate corpse along with some tanks that will provide
a good boost of T-ENG when collected. Turn and move
down the left street after collecting the pickup and
another Chryatis will burst forth from the snow.
Walk over to the Akrid seal in the snowy wall to the
right to and blast it to destroy it. Blast through the
other seal at the end of the tunnel and continue ahead.
Shoot the eggs along the side of the seals for some
extra T-ENG. Activate the DATA POST (4/11) right outside
of the second seal. You'll notice several Trilid Akrid
flying in the background. Hit the switch on the metal
container off to the left to reveal a standard VS suit.
Blast the first car past the seal and grab the MACHINE
GUN then prepare for an ambush of Trilids. Thin them
out a machine gun or gatling gun then continue down
the road ahead. Blast the vehicle up ahead to find a
VS SHOTGUN and a GATLING GUN. The VS shotgun will really
come in handy for the Chryatis that burst out of the
snow in just a bit. Shoot him in the heat sources on
his legs with the VS shotgun to defeat him quickly.
Another GATLING GUN is under the vehicle further ahead
on the right.
Eventually sounds of a battle in the distance will
be heard as you come upon the street to the right followed
by a bit of rumbling. When you turn the corner there
will be a group of Snow Pirates fighting off a Chryatis
up ahead. Shoot the vehicle to the left for a SHOTGUN
then run toward them and shoot the Snow Pirates and
defeat the Chryatis. Shoot the Snow Pirate on the rooftop
with a long distance weapon such as a machine gun or
gatling gun. Get in the standard Vital Suit to the left
of the rooftop that he was on if your current one is
exhausted.

There's plenty of debris down the street ahead and
a ROCKET LAUNCHER hidden behind the right side of the
debris. A Chryatis will emerge from the snow past the
debris and several Snow Pirates will start to attack
the Chryatis and you. Finish off the Chryatis first
then start blasting the Snow Pirate with the rocket
launchers on the rooftop and the metal towers in the
back. Shoot the metal towers that the group of Snow
Pirates up ahead are standing on to kill them then take
out the rest of them while they run toward you to attack.
Grab the pickup of HAND GRENADES under the awning of
the building on the side then continue down the next
open path. Shoot the metal tower in the back that the
Snow Pirate with the rocket launcher is on and shoot
the rest of them as they run up to the VS. Get out of
the VS once the DATA POST (5/11)
in the back is reached then activate it.

Get back in the VS and enter the dilapidated building
to the side. Blast the Snow Pirate then exit the vehicle.
Get the MACHINE GUN where the Snow Pirates were then
start to grapple up to the floors above.
Another MACHINE GUN will be on the second floor next
to the barrels. Grapple to the third floor by anchoring
onto the piece of floor against the corner of the building.
A few more Snow Pirates will be hanging around these
upper floors. Shoot the barrels near them to defeat
them quickly. Make your way over to the right side and
grab the pickup of HAND GRENADES and the MACHINE GUN.
Look up and grapple onto a piece of the fourth floor.
Two more Snow Pirates will attack. Run over to the area
where the Snow Pirates were and look for the broken
floor above. Grapple to the fifth floor. Walk over to
the metal crate that is sticking out of the snow along
the side of the building and jump to the platform below
it. Climb up above to get on top of the bridge.
Hide behind the truck and blast the Snow Pirates on
the bridge in the back. Activate the DATA POST (6/11)
behind the truck. Move along the side of the truck in
front of the Data Post then blast the rest of the Snow
Pirates if any are left. A MACHINE GUN is lying in the
snow on the way toward them. A new VS will crash land
up ahead to the left of a truck. Get inside of the new
Vital Suit to the right. This is a GTF-13M suit that
can transform into a bike or a VS with the press of
the Y button. Press A to accelerate while in bike mode,
X for the brake or reverse, and LB for a jump boost.
The suit will start out in bike form so speed around
the side of the truck and then transform it into a VS
and shoot the enemy VS. Turn the VS back into a bike
and accelerate (A) toward the tracks forming a ramp
then jump (with LB) to reach the other side. Keep in
mind you can also move across the narrow beam on the
right side of the gap while on foot. Transform back
into a VS on the other side and shoot the Snow Pirates.
There are a few Snow Pirates on the carts and metal
crates up ahead so keep a sharp eye for them. Exit the
suit and snag the pickup of HAND GRENADES and the ROCKET
LAUNCHER if needed.

Zoom past the two carts leaning against each other
further down the bridge. Several Snow Pirates will ambush
you up ahead. Take it slow and don't go riding into
the middle of them. Transform into a VS and blast them
with a machine gun, taking out the ones with the rocket
launchers first as usual. If you run out of ammo, turn
into a bike and run over the Snow Pirates! A few crates
can be destroyed in this area for a MACHINE GUN and
a pickup of HAND GRENADES. There is also another MACHINE
GUN further ahead and a SHOTGUN behind two leaning rail
carts. Blast the barrels near the DATA POST (7/11)
by the gap up ahead to reveal a RIFLE. Use the Rifle
to kill the Snow Pirates on the other side of the gap
(use D-pad Up or D-pad Down to zoom in and out with
the rifle scope).
If you're on foot by now, there is a narrow beam that
you can move across; otherwise, transform the VS into
a bike and use the tracks forming a ramp to jump across
after activating the Data Post. An enemy VS will jump
out from behind the cart on the other side of the bridge.
Use your most heavy firepower to quickly defeat him.
There is a RIFLE next to the fallen Vital Suit in the
middle and a pickup of GUM GRENADES on one of the carts
up ahead. Enter the tunnel by moving through either
entrance.

A MACHINE GUN is off to the right and a RIFLE is on
the middle catwalk overhead. Get up on the catwalk and
grab the rifle then use it to snipe at the Snow Pirates
in the back of the tunnel from up high.
Several Snow Pirates will be waiting up ahead. Stay
on the middle catwalk and kill them with a rifle and
throw grenades at them. There are two pickups of HAND
GRENADES on the middle catwalk. About halfway down the
tunnel a DATA POST (8/11)
will be lying to the right side along with a pickup
of HAND GRENADES. Be very careful when you near the
end of the tunnel since a few of the Snow Pirates will
be carrying rocket launchers. Hide behind the columns
and use grenades on the other Snow Pirates while focusing
on the one with the rocket launcher on the right side.
There is one final pickup of HAND GRENADES on top of
the last few carts. Move down the path along the right
wall at the end of the tunnel and watch for the Snow
Pirate in the corner with the rocket launcher.
Move down the stairs until you reach a railing then
go through the doorway and out into the snow.
Grab the RIFLE up ahead after the cutscene and use
it to zoom in on the Snow Pirates below. Wait for them
to walk next to the first set of explosive barrels then
shoot one of the barrels. If one of them runs behind
the car then shoot the car to make it explode. Move
down the snow-covered hill and walk down the path straight
ahead. A few Snow Pirates might slide down the hills
and attack. Walk up the left hill since the right hill
will lead you to an open area with machine gun turrets.
Several buildings will be up the hill on the left and
tons of Snow Pirates will be lurking about around them
and inside of them. Run around the area and blast the
Snow Pirates with a Machine Gun or a Shotgun to kill
them quickly. Throw grenades through the windows of
the buildings to flush the Snow Pirates out of hiding.
You'll find several MACHINE GUNS, SHOTGUNS, ROCKET LAUNCHERS,
and HAND GRENADES pickups around this area.

Get on top of the middle building using your grapple
or the stairs on the inside and outside of the building.
At the very top, a Snow Pirate will attack and there
will be a ROCKET LAUNCHER lying in the middle.
Pick up the rocket launcher and look for the machine
gun turrets in the open area past the gates. Fire a
rocket at each of them to destroy them. There is also
an enemy VS to the right of where the machine gun turrets
were. Scope out the enemy VS and either grab a Rifle
and blast the Snow Pirate inside or shoot a rocket toward
the top portion of the mech.
The rocket launcher works just as well as the sniper
rifle though it will damage the VS a bit. Turn to the
right after shooting the turrets and the enemy VS to
find a DATA POST (9/11) on top of the small building.
Grapple or jump over to the small building and activate
the data post. You'll actually have to deactivate this
data post then reactivate it so the process is a bit
longer. Fall down the building and run over to the area
where the machine gun turrets were.
A few explosions will go off, but don't let that take
your focus off the remaining Snow Pirates in this area.
Gun down the remainder on foot or get inside of the
VS if it's still there and shoot them. Take the VS up
the stairs and shoot the remaining Snow Pirates then
activate the DATA POST (10/11) next to the stairs. Enter
the building down the small staircase near the Data
Post to find a ROCKET LAUNCHER. While moving toward
the bridge off to the side leading to the heart of the
base, Snow Pirates with rocket launchers will be firing
upon you in the back. If you still have the VS suit
then fire at the towers they are standing on to make
them collapse. If you're on foot then try to climb to
the tower on your side and shoot at them with a rifle
or rocket launcher. There is a pickup of HAND GRENADES
buried in the snow near the bridge. Activate the final
DATA POST (11/11) next to the red door on the bridge
then enter the area beyond the door.

Run directly over to the fallen VS in the snow ahead
of you and take off the VS SHOTGUN on the VS's left
side (the side closest to you) then scramble toward
the fence and get in the VS suit behind it. This is
a GTF-11 model with a dash and hover special function
just like the one in the last boss fight and it already
comes equipped with a shotgun on its left side. Wayne
will drop the VS shotgun that you grabbed just a few
minutes ago upon entering the VS suit, but pick it up
while in the VS by moving the right side of the VS over
it and pressing B. You can also attach the VS shotgun
to the right side while on foot. This will give you
two shotguns on each side! Blast the enemy VSs with
the dual shotguns to destroy them very quickly. The
Crimson Pirate Commander will eventually attack in his
GTB-22 VS suit. The GTB-22 shoot is very agile and leap
great distances so be prepared to follow him. Shoot
him with the dual shotguns while at close range to take
his life down at an incredibly fast rate. He has a rocket
launcher equipped to his VS so be ready to dodge or
shoot his rockets. You can also hide behind the center
tower to avoid them. There are two other GTF-11 Vital
Suits (one on the other side and against the far wall
from where you entered) if he destroys the current VS.
A few of the fallen Vital Suits have rocket launchers,
but the shotguns (especially two) will take this boss
down in a matter of seconds from close range.
This battle is the second of the three toughest battles
of extreme mode mainly because once again you are stuck
without a VS! Make sure to bring some hand grenades,
a shotgun, and a rocket launcher with you to this fight.
There are plenty of rocket launchers around the area,
but its good to start out with one. Arrive at this battle
with as much T-ENG as you can. Around 2000 - 3000 T-ENG
will help out a bunch.
Start out by throwing some hand grenades toward the
Snow Pirates in the middle then make your way behind
the concrete piece to the right. Get up on top of the
concrete piece and grab the VS rocket launcher. Shoot
the enemy Vital Suits in the area with the VS rocket
launcher but try to spread the damage so that both of
them are one rocket away from death. They usually take
three rockets each with the VS rocket launcher. You
can use a VS shotgun to take them out very quickly but
you will risk getting hit since you need to be at close
range for maximum damage. Also, use hand grenades to
make them stagger and take off some decent damage in
the process, this also helps to stop them when they
start their mad dashes to run you over.
Once the first enemy Vital Suit falls the Crimson Pirate
Commander will enter the area. Try to take out the other
normal enemy Vital Suit as fast as you can. Pick up
the T-ENG from both Vital Suits then start picking up
normal rocket launchers from around the area. Throw
grenades at the Snow Pirates if they start to blast
you too much and try get rid of most of them while you
run to dodge the rockets from the Commander. Make sure
that you have a clean shot (wait until the second he
lands from a jump) then shoot at the Commander and stay
running while reloading. When he gets close make sure
to roll out of the way when he tries to jump on you.
He will always eventually jump away to shoot rockets.
Use your shotgun to blast the tanks around the area
for a one shot pickup of thermal energy. Use the VS
rocket launchers around the area to take off more damage
from the Snow Pirate Commander compared to the standard
rocket launcher but remember that you must stand still
while reloading them so try to take cover behind an
object while reloading. If a Snow Pirate happens to
hit you while reloading a VS weapon, that will cancel
the reloading animation and give you a full reload,
so the Snow Pirates can actually help you in a way.
Don't try to use the VS shotgun, it takes good damage
from up close but the Snow Pirate Commander is very
dangerous from close range and Wayne will have to recover
from each shotgun blast leaving him open to an attack.
