ENEMY TIPS

This is a list of every normal enemy in the game. Each enemy has a bit of a description along with tips for defeating them. The "Mini-game kill" is the final kill that can be initiated once the enemy has been weakened and then grabbed after a Circle button icon appears over its head. These enemy descriptions are slightly more detailed than those found in the walkthrough.

Persian Soldier

Armed with a sword and shield, these enemies can easily be taken down with any type of attack or combination. They will attack with sword slashes (can be blocked) when close but they are very slow to attack allowing Kratos to quickly decimate them with any attack. A Plume of Prometheus is good to use for crowds and a grab will instantly kill a single Persian soldier.

Mini-game kill: N/A

Archer/Undead Archer/Hades Archer

Armed with a bow and arrow, these types of enemies are found throughout the game in a few different forms, but they all share the same attack. They will always shoot arrows that can be blocked. Run up to them and grab them for a one-hit kill no matter what kind of archer it is or you can use a Plume of Prometheus to knock them to their feet from a distance, but ultimately it is best to grab them.

Mini-game kill: N/A

Cyclops

Like in all the other God of War's, these giants only have one eye and their attacks are quite brutal. Kratos cannot block any of their attacks, so they must be dodged with a roll to the side or in the opposite direction. Attack these beasts with Plumes of Prometheus from a distance. Any distant attacks will work nicely for a Cyclops. Try to hit them as they end an attack since they will have to recover slightly from it.

With the gauntlet of Zeus, these enemies can be taken down with a few charged Olympic Strikes - the greater the level of the gauntlet, the faster they will fall.

Mini-game kill: 4 random button presses

Undead Soldier

These enemies fall to basic attacks much like Persian soldiers but they are much more aggressive. Be sure to block as they dash toward Kratos with their blades stretched out since they will perform a slash combo afterwards. Before each attack, their blades will always glow. They can be defeated with Square attacks or jumping /\ attacks rather easily. Use Plumes of Prometheus for
groups of these enemies.

Mini-game kill: N/A

Siren

These snake-like enemies will not use stone gazes, instead they will scream to stagger Kratos' then attack him while he is stunned. Tap the L and R buttons to recover from their yell. Block their tail attacks and roll away every time they lean their head back to yell. These gorgons can be taken down with normal Square attacks so long as you roll away from their yells. The shockwave from the yell cannot be blocked. A Plume of Prometheus will knock them out of an attack but watch for their tail attack while performing it.

Mini-game kill: 2 random button presses

Undead Tiger/Tiger

These saber tooth tigers will attack with either a slap attack from their paw or flame attack from up close. From a distance, they will lunge at Kratos. Fight them from up close and attack it with Plumes of Prometheus or use jumping Triangle attacks. The Efreet's Demon Fury works very well when it tries to perform an attack since it will shield Kratos and knock the tiger out of its current attack.

While equipped with the gauntlet of Zeus simply perform charge Square attacks against these enemies and each attack will stagger them to where they cannot counter. Feel free to charge attack them to death.

Mini-game kill: 2 Random 180 rotations, 1 random 360 rotation

Fire Satyr

With the head and feet of a goat, these enemies like to stand back and toss fire bombs while they are in the area. Run up to them and perform a Plume of Prometheus or grab them. Much like any grab, grabbing them will give Kratos the advantage of invincibility from any other satyrs that might be in the area during the grab animation. The fire bombs cannot be guarded against and must be dodged by moving out of the way of the flames or rolling away from them. Grabbing helps out a bunch while fighting these enemies.

With the gauntlet of Zeus, use charge attacks to defeat them quickly.

Mini-game kill: 1 random 360 rotation

Soldier Satyr

These goat-like enemies fight much like undead soldiers but their attacks are sometimes longer. They are just as aggressive too! Pay attention to when their katars (bladed hand weapons) light up green and this will signal when they are about to attack. Block at that time to avoid the full slash attack. Grab them and try to get all of them on one side if you are fighting a group then use Plumes of Prometheus to keep them grounded. A lot of times a full Plume is rather hard to get out since these enemies attack so aggressively, so use jumping Triangle attacks and grabs if you must, but try to get them all on the same side. They can be deadly when they surround Kratos. They sometimes stand around and attack in a sequence - one right after the other.

With the gauntlet of Zeus, use charge attacks to defeat them quickly.

Mini-game kill: 1 random 360 rotation

Harpling

These flying bird-like enemies fall very quickly to just about any attack, but they can be deadly in groups. The best way to get rid of these is to grab all of them. A grab is an instant kill and this will shield Kratos from the rest of the surrounding harpling's attacks. An air Rage of Tartarus works extremely well for groups also, nearly taking a whole group down with one ground pound.

Mini-game kill: N/A

Fire Guard

These enemies wear a gold helmet and carry two flaming swords. These are the first of the many enemies that cannot be grabbed until they are weakened - they can only be grabbed while in the air (when Kratos knocks them into the air) or while near death. Fire guards are very aggressive. Their attacks can all be blocked but their jumping overhead attack will stagger Kratos and leave him open to quick attacks that follow (it doesn't take off any life). This may not seem like that big of a deal while fighting one but while fighting a group of these, one can break your attack while the others are free to hit if they attack at that time. They have some very long combos, so be ready to block all the slashes. It might pay you to roll from their overhead attack. Hit them with a jumping Triangle attack to knock them off balance then follow up that attack up with Square attacks, Plumes, or a grab while they are in the air. A Rage of
Tartarus will instantly floor them also.

With the gauntlet of Zeus, use charge attacks to defeat them quickly.

Mini-game kill: 1 random button press

Knight Wraith

These ghost-like knights come equipped with a shield and they will block every one of your hits with that shield until it is destroyed, so Kratos must first remove their shield in order to damage them. Use a Plume of Prometheus to instantly destroy its shield then attack it with more Plumes. All of the knight's sword swings can be guarded against except for its counter attack once Kratos hits its shield enough times. You'll need to roll away from the counter attack. Be sure to block whenever it begins to swing its sword.

Charge attacks with the gauntlet of Zeus will take them down quickly. You can also use charged Olympic Strikes.

Mini-game kill: continuous 360 rotations

Minotaur

None of this gaint bull enemy's attacks can be blocked, so Kratos will have to keep his distance and hit the Minotaur as he ends or recovers from an attack. He has three moves: a headbutt (close range), a slash combo (mid-range), and a ram (long range). The best way to defeat him is to hit him as recovers from his ram. Intentionally get far away from him to make him charge a ram then roll out of the way and hit him with a Plume of Prometheus or Spirit of Hercules as he recovers - repeat this to beat him easily as long as you can time the roll well. Another way to defeat him is to start a Plume of Prometheus from long range as he is ending his slash combo. You don't want to be caught close to him while performing a Plume or the Mintaur will headbutt Kratos. You can also use The Efreet to knock him away also.

Charge attacks with the gauntlet of Zeus will take them down quickly.

Mini-game kill: 3 random button presses

Gorgon

Gorgons have the usual snake-like tail and a head full of snakes. They have some very swift movements can easily dash out of the way of any of Kratos' attacks with very little warning. A gorgon only has two basic attacks - its tail slap combo and a stone gaze. Both hits of the tail slap can be guarded against but Kratos will have to roll away from their stone gaze. Use constant rolls to avoid the green gaze and this will keep Kratos out of their line of sight long enough to where he will not be changed to stone. Failure to do so
will turn Kratos into a stone statue and at that time any attack will instantly break him and kill him.

Charge attacks from the gauntlet of Zeus or charged Olympic Strikes work well for defeating a gorgon quickly.

Mini-game kill: 1 random button, 1 O button tapping

Hades Soldier

This is really not that much of a new enemy, the only aspect that separates these from undead soldiers is its appearance - they don't have a ghostly glow to them and their swords glow red when they dash. They still have the same blockable dashing attacks that undead soldiers have and can still be defeated with Plumes or jumping Triangle attacks much like the undead soldiers.

As usual, use charge attacks with the gauntlet of Zeus to take these enemies
down quickly.

Mini-game kill: N/A

Warrior Wraith

These can be distinguished from the Knight Wraiths by their greenish flames surrounding their body. Much like the Knight Wraith, Kratos must first destroy their shield with a Plume or Spirit of Hercules then attack them. The main difference in fighting these enemies is that their attacks, when they do not have a shield, cannot be blocked - Kratos must roll away from both the overhead slash and followup slice. When they have a shield, their attack combination can be guarded or deflected. Use Plumes or Spirits of Hercules to attack them when they are without shields and use The Efreet's Demon Fury to shield Kratos from their unblockable attacks if they ever begins to attack when he is close - or you can just roll.

Charge attacks or charged Olympic Strikes with the gauntlet of Zeus will bring these enemies down quickly.

Mini-game kill: continuous 360 rotations

Harpy

Not to be mixed with the lesser Harplings, these fully grown Harpies like to stay at a distance then suddenly swoop toward Kratos. The dive attack is unblockable, so roll away from it whenever a Harpy suddenly glows red then flies backward to strike. In order to take down these enemies, hit them once or twice with any weapon then grab them. As long as any hit connects then the following grab will most likely connect as well. Grabbing them will make Kratos tear off their wings for a one-hit kill.

Mini-game kill: N/A

Armored Cyclops

These Cyclops arrive into the battlefield with armor on their bodies that may be broken through charge attacks with the gauntlet of Zeus. Destroy their armor then defeat them like you would any normal Cyclops. They still have the same unblockable Cyclops attacks while their armor is on them.

Chargon's Wrath works well for stripping these enemies of their armor rather quickly.

Mini-game kill: 4 random button presses

Armored Minotaur

Much like the armored Cyclops, these enemies are the same with or without armor. Use the gauntlet of Zeus or Charon's Wrath to strip them of armor then defeat them as you normally would.

Mini-game kill: 3 random button presses

Gorgon Queen

Despite their blue color, the gorgon queen is much like the standard gorgon but they have a very slippery unblockable stoning attack. They will coil up then strike toward Kratos. If they grab your character, then they will instantly turn Kratos to stone. This move cannot be blocked - you must roll away from it. They still fall much like the standard gorgon. Hit them with charge punches from the gauntlet to defeat them quickly.

Mini-game kill: 1 random button press, 1 Circle button tapping

Pure Souls

Well, these technically aren't enemies. Kratos is more of the enemy in this case. Pure souls will move about the Elysium Fields in their white ghostly appearance. Kratos must simply run up to each one and grab it or attack it (once his blades of chaos have been restored). Kratos must kill all of the souls in the field to gain his powers back once again.

Mini-game kill: N/A
