[[[ 2. WHAT IS YU-GI-OH? ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a Manga created by Kazumi Takahashi about a small 10th grade boy
named Yugi Mutou who was constantly picked on by bullies. But that all changed
when he solved a mysterious puzzle he had received from his Grandpa, Sugoroku
Mutou, who had gotten it from an ancient Egyptian pyramid. The moment he solved
the puzzle, he was possessed by a mysterious spirit who would recklessly
challenge anyone who hurt him or his friends. The story revolves mainly around
games of different varieties, but the game that most of the manga is centered
around is Magic & Wizards, or Duel Monsters. The Manga quickly became an anime,
and was soon a wide spread phenomenon, like Pokemon was back in the old days.
And shortly afterwards, the good folks at Konami decided to make the card game
of Duel Monsters a reality, and started releasing cards like the ones seen on
the TV show to the masses in Japan. Now, the Card Game has reached us, and has
grown to be just as popular as it is in Japan.


[[[ 3. CONTROLS ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

Here are the controls for the game.

<CONTROL PAD> - Moves the curser on the screen.

<A> BUTTON - Confirms commands, and displays a continuing message.

<B> BUTTON - Cancels commands, returns to a previous screen, and shifts phases
during a Match/Duel.

<START> BUTTON - Shows the Language Menu on the Map and Duel Screens.

<SELECT> BUTTON - Does nothing.

<L> BUTTON - Shifts backwards between the Trunk, Main Deck, and Side Deck on
the Deck and Trunk Screen.

<R> BUTTON - Shifts between the Trunk, Main Deck, and Side Deck on the Deck
and Trunk Screen, Shifts the sub-menu on or off on the Map Screen, and draws a
card during a Match/Duel.


[[[ 4. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WWE and EDS ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

(1) MORE CARDS
Back in the days of EDS, there were cards that went from Legend of Blue-Eyes
White Dragon to Magic Ruler, as well as the Starter Decks Yugi and Kaiba, and
other assorted cards. Now, there are over 1000 cards to choose from, and the
packs run from Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon to Labyrinth of Nightmare.

(2) A PLOT (SORT OF)
EDS was a Duelling Game, pure and simple. You challenged opponents, and if
you defeated them enough times, you go to the next tier. But in WWE, you are
a duelist in Battle City, and you travel around duelling other compeditors.
There are even tournaments to keep you occupied, and a whole sub-plot
involving a group of Rare Card stealers, the Ghouls!

There are many, many other differences, but I'll discuss those a bit later.


[[[ 5. RULES ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

There are many rules to the game of Duel Monsters, but it is very simple once
you understand them. For the sake of orginization, I will be splitting the
different rules into sections.

<<< A. BASIC RULES =========================================================>>>

These are the basic rules of the game:

- Each player begins a game with 8000 Life Points.

- Games are usually conducted in Duels, which is one game. But sometimes,
during tournaments, a game will be conducted in a Match, which is three games.

<<< B. WINNING A MATCH/DUEL  ===============================================>>>

- A Duel is won when one of the victories below is completed:

LIFE POINT VICTORY
You win this type of knockout when you reduce your opponent's Life Points to
0 first. If both you and your opponent reduce each other's Life Points to 0,
the Duel is declared a Draw.

DECK DEPLETION VICTORY
You win this type of knockout when your opponent cannot draw a new card during
his/her Draw Phase.

SPECIAL VICTORY
This type of victory is tricky, because there are only two ways in which you
can do it: by using the effect of "Exodia the Forbidden One" or by using the
effect of "Destiny Board". With "Exodia the Forbidden One", if you have that
card in your hand, along with "Left Leg of the Forbidden One", "Right Leg of
the Forbidden One", "Left Arm of the Forbidden One" and "Right Arm of the
Forbidden One" in your hand, you automatically win the duel. With "Destiny
Board", if you have that card on the field along with "Spirit Message 'I'",
"Spirit Message 'N'", "Spirit Message 'A'", and "Spirit Message 'L'", you also
automatically win the duel.

A match is won after one of the following conditions are met:

IF YOU WIN 2 IN A ROW - You win the Match
IF YOU WIN 1, LOSE 1, THEN WIN THE LAST ONE - You win the Match
IF YOU LOSE 1, THEN WIN THE LAST 2 - You win the Match
IF YOU LOSE 2 IN A ROW - You lose the Match
IF YOU LOSE 1, WIN 1, THEN LOSE THE LAST ONE - You lose the Match
IF YOU WIN 1, THEN LOSE THE LAST 2 - You lose the Match
IF YOU WIN 1, LOSE 1, AND HAVE A DRAW - The Match is a Draw

<<< C. THE DUEL FIELD ======================================================>>>

Here is a description of the Duel Field:

LIFE POINT COUNTERS
The green boxes at the top of your field. These counters keep tracks of you and
your opponent's Life Points. If either player's Life Points drop to 0, that
player loses the Duel.

OUT OF PLAY ZONE
The top right box on your field. Cards that are sent here cannot be
brought back to the field with normal revival cards. The only way to get back
removed cards is to use the Magic Card, "Miracle Dig".

GRAVEYARD
The middle right box on your field. Cards that are sent here have been
discarded, and therefore cannot be brought back to the field unless a certain
card is used to do so.

DECK ZONE
The lower right box on your field. This is your Dueling Deck, where you draw
cards from every turn.

FUSION DECK ZONE
The lower left box on your field. This is your Fusion Deck, where up to 20
Fusion Monsters are kept.

FIELD MAGIC CARD ZONE
The middle left box on your field. This is where you play Field Magic Cards.
Keep in mind that only 1 Field Magic Card can be active on the field at a time.

MONSTER CARD ZONE
The 5 boxes in a row below the Life Point Counters. You can Summon or Set
monsters in these boxes. Keep in mind that you can only have up to 5 monsters
in this zone.

MAGIC/TRAP CARD ZONE
The 5 boxes in a row below the Monster Card Zone. You can play Magic or Trap
cards in this zone. Keep in mind that you can only have up to 5 Magic/Trap
cards in this zone.

YOUR HAND
The bottom row of cards on your field. This is your hand, where you play cards
from. The limit of your hand is 6 cards. If you gain any more than that, you
must discard until you have 6 again during your End Phase.

<<< D. MONSTER CARDS =======================================================>>>

Monster Cards are the tools we as Duelists use to defeat our opponent. Monsters
can attack and defend themselves, and they may also have some other quite
interesting powers. See for yourself.

<I> PLAYING MONSTERS

Monsters can be played in 2 ways on the field.

SUMMON
When you Summon a monster, you are playing the monster in Face-Up Attack
Position on the field.

SET
When you Set a monster, you are playing the monster in Face-Down Defense
Position on the field. If it is flipped face-up in Battle, it is flipped
in Defense Position.

<II> TYPES OF SUMMONS & SETS

While Summoning and Setting is just the basics, there are many different types
of summons and sets you need to consider.

NORMAL SUMMON & SET
A Normal Summoned monster is a monster summoned without the aid of a card
effect. You can only do 1 of these during your turn.

SPECIAL SUMMON & SET
A Special Summoned monster is a monster summoned with the aid of a card effect.
You can do as many of these as you like during your turn.

FLIP SUMMON
A Flip Summoned monster is a monster summoned by flipping it from Face-Down
Defense Position to Face-Up Attack Position. You can do as many of these as
you want during your turn. Keep in mind that a monster is not flipped face-up
when it is destroyed while it's face-down.

FUSION SUMMON
A Fusion Summoned monster is a monster summoned from the Fusion Deck by using
"Polymerization" or "Fusion Gate". This is considered a Special Summon.

RITUAL SUMMON
A RItual Summoned monster is a monster summoned with a Ritual Magic Card. This
is considered a Special Summon.

<III> ATTRIBUTES & TYPES

There are 6 different types of Attributes a Monster can have.

DARK     LIGHT
EARTH    WATER
FIRE     WIND

There are also 20 different Types a monster can have.

Wow, that was a short section, wasn't it?

<IV> NORMAL MONSTERS

Normal Monsters cannot do anything other than Attack or Defend. They have
Flavor Text at the bottom of the card, but in no way does the text affect
the game at all.

<V> EFFECT MONSTERS

Effect Monsters can not only attack and defend, but they can also use special
effects.

FLIP EFFECT
This effect is activated when the monster is flipped face-up, unless it is
flipped by a card effect that states that the effect is not activated.

NORMAL EFFECT
This effect can be activated while the monster is face-up on the field.

<VI> FUSION MONSTERS

Fusion Monsters are Special Summoned from the Fusion Deck by combining 2 or
3 monsters from the field or your hand by means of the Magic Card
"Polymerization", or the Magic Card "Fusion Gate". When you activate either
of these cards, discard the 2 or 3 monsters involved in the Fusion to the
Graveyard (or out of play, if you are using "Fusion Gate"), and choose the
Fusion Monster from your Deck to be played.

<VII> RITUAL MONSTERS

Ritual Monsters are Special Summoned by playing a Ritual Magic Card that allows
you to Ritual Summon that monster.

<<< E. MAGIC CARDS =========================================================>>>

Magic Cards are cards that can be activated from your hand, or flipped face-up
on the field. Magic Cards cannot be activated during your opponent's turn.
The only Magic Card that bypasses this rule is a Quick-Play Magic Card.

<I> NORMAL MAGIC CARDS

This type of Magic Card basically follows the same rules as shown above in the
introduction. As soon as this card has used its effect, it is destroyed.

<II> CONTINUOUS MAGIC CARDS

This type of Magic Card stays on the field after activation until it is
destroyed by a card effect.

<III> EQUIP MAGIC CARDS

This type of Magic Card is equipped to a face-up monster on the field (even
your opponent's monsters are within limits) to increase that monster's power,
or to give that monster a new effect.

<IV> RITUAL MAGIC CARDS

This type of Magic Card is used to Ritual Summon a Ritual Monster. After
activation, this card is destroyed.

<V> QUICK-PLAY MAGIC CARDS

This type of Magic Card can be played from your hand as a chain, or activated
during you and your opponent's turn while on the field. After activation, the
card is destroyed.

<<< F. TRAP CARDS ==========================================================>>>

Trap Cards are cards that can be activated during you and your
opponent's turn.

<I> NORMAL TRAP CARDS

This type of Trap Card does what is described in the introduction to Trap
Cards. After activation, this card is destroyed.

<II> CONTINUOUS TRAP CARDS

This type of Trap Card stays on the field after activation until it is
destroyed by a card effect.

<III> COUNTER TRAP CARDS

This type of Trap Card is used in responding to the activation of another
Magic or Trap Card, or to the summon of a monster. After activation, this
card is destroyed.

<<< G. TURN PHASES =========================================================>>>

There are several different phases in a turn in which you must follow.

DRAW PHASE
During this phase, you draw 1 card from your Deck.

STANDBY PHASE
During this phase, card effects that state that something has to be done
during this phase are done.

MAIN PHASE 1
During this phase, you may Summon or Set monsters, and you may set and/or
activate as many Magic and Trap Cards as you want. Keep in mind that when a
monster is played, it can't have its position changed for the rest of the
turn. Also, after that turn, monsters can only have their positions changed
once per turn, and only during the Main Phase. A monster also cannot have its
position changed after it battles during that turn.

NOTE: If you do not want to go to the Battle Phase, you must end your turn
here.

BATTLE PHASE
During this phase, you may attack your opponent's monsters or their Life
Points with your Attack Position Monsters.

(STEP 1) DECLARE AN ATTACK
Choose a monster you wish to attack with, and choose a monster you wish to
attack. At this time, you and your opponent can activate Magic and Trap
Cards.

(STEP 2) DAMAGE STEP
Here is the way in which you figure out damage in battle.

IF YOUR OPPOSING MONSTER IS IN ATTACK POSITION, AND YOUR ATK IS HIGHER THEN
ITS ATTACK:

Destroy the opposing monster, and inflict damage to your opponent's Life Points
equal to the different between you and your opponent's ATK.

IF YOUR OPPOSING MONSTER IS IN ATTACK POSITION, AND THE MONSTER'S ATK IS
HIGHER THAN YOUR ATTACK:

Your monster is destroyed, and you lose Life Points equal to the difference
between your monster's ATK and your opponents.

IF YOUR OPPOSING MONSTER IS IN ATTACK POSITION, AND THE MONSTER'S ATTACKS ARE
EQUAL:

Destroy both monsters, but do no damage to either player's Life Points.

IF YOUR OPPOSING MONSTER IS IN DEFENSE POSITION, AND YOUR ATK IS HIGHER THEN
ITS DEFENSE:

Destroy the opposing monster, but do no damage to your opponent's Life Points.

IF YOUR OPPOSING MONSTER IS IN DEFENSE POSITION, AND ITS DEF IS HIGHER THEN
YOUR ATK:

Inflict damage to your Life Points equal to the difference between your ATK and
your opponent's DEF.

IF YOUR OPPOSING MONSTER IS IN DEFENSE POSITION, AND ITS DEF AND YOUR ATK IS
EQUAL:

Nothing happens.

(STEP 3) EFFECTS

During this step, any Flip Effects are now activated.

MAIN PHASE 2
See Main Phase 1. You can only reach this phase if you go to your Battle
Phase first.

END PHASE
In this phase, you end your turn.

<<< H. SPELL SPEEDS ========================================================>>>

When a card is activated, it can be chained with another card or effect. This
is known as Chaining, or using Spell Speeds. Here is a list of different Spell
Speeds.

- SPELL SPEED 1 CARDS -

These are the slowest cards. They can never chain another card.

NORMAL MAGIC CARD
CONTINUOUS MAGIC CARD
EQUIP MAGIC CARD
FIELD MAGIC CARD
EFFECT MONSTER CARD (Continuous, Cost, Trigger, Flip)

- SPELL SPEED 2 CARDS -

These cards can chain Spell Speed 1 and 2 cards.

QUICK-PLAY MAGIC CARD
NORMAL TRAP CARD
EFFECT MONSTER CARD (Trigger, Multi-Trigger)

- SPELL SPEED 3 CARDS -

These cards can chain any other card. Only other Spell Speed 3 cards can chain
these back.

COUNTER TRAP CARD

<<< I. LIMITED CARDS =======================================================>>>

Because there are so many cards in the Duel Monsters game, and because some of
them are extremely powerful and would be very dangerous if there were a lot of
them in 1 deck, some cards are limited. Of course, you can only have up to 3
copies of a normal card in your Deck, but some cards are an exception. Here is
the list.

Only 1 copy of any of these cards can be kept in a single Deck.

[[[ 6. STARTING A NEW GAME ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

At the Title Screen, if you want to start a new game, click on NEW GAME. If
this is the first time you are playing, it will get right into the
introduction. If not, it will go to a screen asking whether you want to deleate
your old game. Press the A Button to do so, or the B Button to go back to the
Main Screen.

After this, the game will introduce Roland, the referee of Battle City. He will
congragulate you on entering the tournament, then offer you your choice of
Decks. Check STARTER DECK GUIDE to make your choice.

After you have chosen your Deck, Roland will explain that Battle City has been
divided into different blocks, and that only the ones closest to you will be
available. Good Luck!


[[[ 7. GAME MENU ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

You get to the Game Menu by pressing the START button at the Map Screen. Here is
a description of each of the options.

DECK & TRUNK

This is where you keep all of the cards you have collected so far in the game.
More specifically, the TRUNK section is the one that keeps all the cards you
have collected in the game. The DECK section is where you make your Dueling
Deck. Unfortunately, you can only make 1 Deck. The SIDE DECK section is where
you keep your Side Deck for matches.

MISC

This option has 2 sections: Trade and Password. Trade is where you get to trade
cards with one of your friends who owns a copy of this game via Link Cable. The
Password Section is where you can enter different card passwords, and you gain
that card. Unfortunately, you can only use a password once.

LINK DUEL

This section is where you duel one of your friends who has a copy of this game
via Link Cable.

OPTION

This option has only 1 section: Card Limit. After you have completed all of the
Card Limitation Contests, you can access this section, and choose whether you
want to turn the Card Limitations in a Deck on or off.

DUEL POINTS

There is a counter at the bottom of the Game Screen that keeps track of all of
the Duel Points you have collected so far. The more Dueling Points you get,
the better cards you will get. Here is a chart explaining the point system.

WIN A DUEL = +50 Points
DRAW A DUEL = +20 Points
LOSE A DUEL = -30 Points
WIN A MATCH = +150 Points
DRAW A MATCH = -30 Points
LOSE A MATCH = -50 Points
WIN 2 MATCHES IN A ROW = +300 Points
WIN TARGET WEEK = +200 Points


[[[ 8. WALKTHROUGH ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

<<< A. BATTLE CITY & TOURNAMENTS ===========================================>>>

In the Battle City Tournament, you go around the entire city and duel different
characters from the TV Show, such as Yugi Moto, Mai Valentine, and Tea
Gardner. There are also different competitions to participate in, of which I
will explain below.

[CHALLENGE CUP]

This is held every Saturday. If you check Orcmor's Battle City Map, this
tournament starts at Space 10, and follows in order until it gets to 1, in
which case it goes to 1 and follows in order from then on. In this match,
you face a randomly selected opponent (including ones you haven't unlocked
yet), and you face them in a Match. If you win, you get a special pack of 5
cards.

[TARGET WEEK]

In this challenge, you are given 2 random duelists that you have already
unlocked, and you must find and defeat them both in a Duel within the week
givin. If you win, you get extra Dueling Points.

[CHAMPIONSHIP CUP]

This is held once a month. In this challenge, you must find the tournament
which is being held randomly in the city (passangers will often tell you where
it is), and if you do, you enter the Quarter-Finals. Duelists are once again
randomly chosen from all of the duelists available in the game. If you win
the match in the Quarter-Finals, you duel someone else the next day in the
Semi-Finals. If you win that match too, you duel someone else in the Finals
the next day. And if you manage to win that as well, you gain another
Tournament Pack with better cards.

[K.C. CUP]

This is held randomly. This is basically just like the championship cup.

<<< B. GHOULS & THE PHANTOM PYRAMID ========================================>>>

After a while, messages will start to go out to all duelists stating that the
GHOULS are on the loose, and that they are hiding somewhere in the city.
When this happens, when you talk to a passanger, it will most likely be a
GHOUL who challenges you. Sometimes, however, a GHOUL will butt into another
Duel you are having with someone else. Here are the GHOUL'S names.

RARE HUNTER
ARKANA
STRINGS
UMBRA & LUMIS
ODION

After you have beaten all of the GHOUL'S at least once, Trusdale will appear,
and tell you that Tea's gone missing. Tea will then appear, but she is now
being possessed by the leader of the GHOULS, and she will lead you to their
hideout, the Phantom Pyramid. At the pyramid, you will then have to duel her.
Once you have beaten her, she will snap out of her possession, and will tell
you that Joey has been kidnapped also. Now, you must Duel 2 of the 5 GHOULS
you had to Duel in Battle City. After that, in the 4th Stage, Joey will now
appear. But, like Tea, he has also been possessed, and you must now Duel him.
Once you have beaten him, you go onto the final stage, where you face the
leader of the GHOULS, Yami Marik Ishtar! Only he also has been possessed by his
evil half after you defeated Odion, and you must now Duel him. But once you have
won, Original Marik will break free of Yami's control, and thank you. But
it does not end there. He will not rest until Yugi has been defeated! Now that
you have completed the Phantom Pyramid, all of the GHOULS and Marik are now
available to Duel in Battle City.

Oh, and one more thing. If, before the Phantom Pyramid, you lose to any of the
GHOULS even once, you must beat them all again, so beware!

<<< C. CARD LIMITATION CONTEST ==============================================>>>

After you have completed the Phantom Pyramid Story, you will notice more
Tournament locations have arisen. These are the Card Limitation Exams. In this
contest, you must face Roland in a Duel, but you are limited to only a certain
type of card. After you complete one of the exams, you will recieve 1 copy of
every card of that type (EX: Beat Warriors Only Contest, you get every Warrior-
type Monster). There are 10 exams in all. Here is a list of them.

After you have completed the Phantom Pyramid Story, along with the CLC, you will
also notice 10 blanked-out lights at the top of the Game Menu. You light these
up by completing certain objectives, shown below:

LIGHT 01
Beat every duelist in the game (including the secret ones) at least 10 times
each.

LIGHT 02
Unlock every booster pack in the game at least once.

LIGHT 03
Obtain 50,000 Duel Points.

LIGHT 04
Beat the Challenge Cup in every area of Battle City.

LIGHT 05
Complete the Championship Cup at least once.

LIGHT 06
Complete the K.C Cup at least once.

LIGHT 07
Complete at least 1 of the 5 Interferences (see the next section for details).

LIGHT 08
Obtain every card in the game.

LIGHT 09
Complete all 10 Card Limitation Contests.

LIGHT 10
Complete the Phantom Pyramid Story, and beat every GHOUL and every Normal
Duelist at least once, except for the secret Duelists.

Once you have lit each of these lights, you are considered a true Duelist!

<<< E. INTERFERENCES ========================================================>>>

During the Battle City Tournament, you will sometimes come across 2 Duelists
who are always in the same space, and never move away from the other. At these
moments, if you were to challenge one of them, the other would suddenly come in,
and challenge you instead. This is called an Interference. Here is the list of
the characters that can interfere with each other.

MARIK ISHTAR & ODION

For instance, if you were to challenge Mokuba Kaiba while Seto Kaiba is in the
same area, Seto will step in, send Mokuba away, and Duel you instead. That's
basically it.

[ARKANA]
HOW TO UNLOCK: Complete the Phantom Pyramid Story.

One of the GHOULS, he is a master of the Dark Magician. He once challenged
Yami Yugi in the basement of a Gaming Store, and upped the game by saying that
whoever loses will have their legs cut off by the chainsaws on the side of the
arena! But Yugi managed to defeat him, and save him from dying. What Arkana
wants more than anything else is to be reunited with his wife, Catherine. And
so he joined forces with Marik, who said that he could bring her back if he
defeated Yugi.

TIPS
Arkana is basically like Yugi, in the fact that he uses a lot of Dark monsters
in his Deck, including some very strong Level 4 monsters. He has a lot of good
Magic Cards as well, backed up by good effect monsters. Just attack him head on
with a Beatdown-type deck, since he will not be able to defend himself most of
the time.


[BAKURA RYOU (YAMI BAKURA)]
HOW TO UNLOCK: -

A transfer student to Yugi's school, Bakura is also the owner of a Millennium
Item, the Millennium Ring. However, unlike Yugi's Millennium Puzzle, which
contains a kind soul, Bakura's Ring contains the soul of an evil tombrobber,
who will take control of Bakura sometimes and wreak havic in his quest for the
other Millennium Puzzle.

TIPS

Bakura is not a very difficult opponent. He will mostly use weak monsters in
Defense Position, although he will occasionally go on the offensive. The only
thing you have to worry about is the fact that Bakura holds one of the only
two card sets that can guarantee an instant win: the "Destiny Board". If he
gets "Destiny Board" on the field along with all the other "Spirit Messages",
he automatically wins. So either use Jinzo or a Trap/Magic-removal card(s) to
defeat this combo.


[ESPA ROBA]
HOW TO UNLOCK: -

A participant in the Battle City Tournament who made everyone believe that he
has psychic powers in order to protect his brothers from bullies, he dueled
Joey, who saw through his scheme, and eventually defeated him and claimed his
Jinzo.

TIPS

Espa Roba seems to be an expert in the field of forcing you into Attack
Position, with his two traps, "Light of Intervention" and "Shadow of Eyes", but
other than that, he isn't a really good duelist. He does have "Jinzo" and
"Tri-Horned Dragon", but those are his only real powerful cards. Just kick his
butt with whatever you want.


[ISHIZU ISHTAR]
HOW TO UNLOCK: -

This woman introduced to Yami and Seto the stone tablet in the Domino City
Museam that seemed to show the two of them battling each other in ancient times.
She is also Marik's brother, and she is determined to rid Marik of his evil
side.

TIPS
Ishizu is one of the more difficult opponents during the first part of the game.
She favors Light monsters (mostly female), and she has some of the best. She
has some incredibly powerful L4 or lower monsters, and a Level 8 monster called
the "Cozmo Queen" (8/2900/2450)! And she also has 2 "Luminous Sparks", which
power up her monsters by 500 ATK points, and demote her monsters by 400 DEF
points. This combination, along with a "St. Joan" and a "Wingweaver" could make
even Kaiba tremble. So use extreme caution when dueling her.


[MAI VALENTINE]
HOW TO UNLOCK: -

A character who was first introduced at the beginning of the Duelist Kingdom
arc, Mai used to be a selfish duelist who only cared about herself, and would
use tricks in her duels to psych out her opponents. But since she met Yugi
and the others, she has lightened up a bit.

TIPS
Just like in the anime, Mai uses mostly the Harpie Lady cards in combination
to overwhelm her opponents. And since she has multiple copies of most of her
monsters, she also has a few "Aqua Chorus" cards that can increase the ATK
and DEF of monsters who have another copy of themselves on the field by 500
points. This can quickly blow you away if you are not prepared.


[MAKO TSUNAMI]
HOW TO UNLOCK: -

Mako is a man with a dream. When he was little, his father was swept overboard
by the sea while they were out fishing. But Mako suspects that his father is
still alive, so he duels to find his father.

TIPS
Mako is a man of the sea, and his deck shows it. His Deck mainly consists of
WATER-type monsters, which include some powerful L4 monsters such as
"7-Colored Fish" and others. Mako's most powerful combo is "Umi", which turns
the field into a sea field, and "Tornado Wall", which negates all damage done
to him while "Umi" is not destroyed. Just think. With this out, he can shut
down entire beatdown decks easily. He also has 3 "Torrential Tributes', which
activate when a monster is summoned, and destroy all monsters on the field.
He also has some good effect monsters that activate when they are flipped
face-up, such as "Penguin Soldier" and others. So just watch out for his Magic
and Trap cards, and other hidden effects, and you will be fine.



[JOEY WHEELER]
HOW TO UNLOCK: -

Yugi's best friend, Joey used to be a bully who wanted to make Yugi into a man.
So one day, while Yugi was still trying to solve the Millennium Puzzle, Joey
took one of the pieces to it so that Yugi could never finish it. But he gave
it back after witnessing Yugi stand up to him at the cost of getting beaten up.
Joey cares a lot about his sister, Serenity Wheeler, since she is now going
through an operation that will give her eyesight back. Joey is a very good
friend, and would do anything for Yugi and the others.

TIPS
Joey is a very good duelist, but not as good as Yugi or Seto. He has some very
strong Level 4 or lower monsters, such as "Goblin Attack Force", "Vorse Raider",
"Gearfried the Iron Knight" and "Zombyra the Dark". These monsters can prevent
you from summoning stronger monsters, and even if you managed to do so, he also
has 3 "Summoned Skulls". He also has a "B. Skull Dragon", but he uses this very
rarely.


[REX RAPTOR]
HOW TO UNLOCK: -

Rex came in second place at the Intercontinental Championship, and so was
invited to Duelist Kingdom. While on the way, he was quickly humiliated by
Mai, and so wanted revenge. She agreed to duel him again, on the condition
that he defeated Joey, the only duelist she had lost to. Joey eventually won
this duel as well, and claimed Rex's "Red-Eyes Black Dragon", which Rex
stupidly bet in trade for Joey's "Time Wizard".

TIPS
Rex isn't really that good. His strongest non-tribute monsters have only 1600
Attack, and even his tribute monsters aren't that powerful. His strongest
tribute monster is "Wingweaver" (ATK 2750), but he very rarely gets this out.


[SETO KAIBA]
HOW TO UNLOCK: -

Yugi's greatest rival, Kaiba used to be the world champion until he was
defeated by Yugi, and cleansed of the evil controlling him. And because of that,
he is no longer willing to do whatever it takes to defeat someone. The only
person that Seto seems to truly care for is his little brother, Mokuba, who he
will do anything for.

TIPS
Seto is the strongest opening duelist in the game. He has plenty of strong cards
that he can get out right away, as well as great traps such as "Mirror Force"
and "Magic Cylinder". One of his deadliest combinations however, is to summon
"Cyber-Stein", and use its effect to pay 5000 Life Points and automatically
Special Summon his most powerful monster "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon"! This, in
theory, is an extremely good strategy, because even if this monster was brought
down, it wouldn't be able to be revived because it wasn't properly Fusion
Summoned. I know. I've tried. Just bring plenty of M/T and Monster Destruction
cards, and you'll be okay.

Here are some glitches the creators of this game may have made by mistake or
on purpose.

SANGAN/WITCH OF THE BLACK FOREST GLITCH
If you use a Magic/Trap Monster Revival card that equippes to the revived
monster (Premature Burial/Call of the Haunted) to revive one of these monsters,
and then destroy the revived monster with a card effect, you can use the
monster's effect twice (useful for Exodia Decks).

BAZOO THE SOUL-EATER GLITCH
You can only remove Monster Cards from your Graveyard. The card says you can
remove any card.

KYCOO THE GHOST DESTROYER GLITCH
Just like "Bazoo the Soul-Eater", the card says you can remove any card from
the Graveyard, but you can only remove Monster Cards.

SKULL LAIR GLITCH
See "Bazoo the Soul-Eater" and "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer".

CHOSEN ONE GLITCH
The card text says that you pick 2 cards, but you really pick 3.
