They act as your tank while you blast your enemies to bits. Pets come in all shapes and sizes. You gain the ability to obtain a pet at lvl 10. You must first do a quest for the hunter trainer. He wants you to successfully tame 3 animals. Once you have Completed this task, you are given the pet abilities. Ok, so now you've tamed a pet, what next? You have to feed your pet. Each pet has it's own special diet. For Example: Wolves only eat meat, while bears eat just about everything. As you feed your pet, his loyalty increases. There's 6 lvls of loyalty. As your pet increases his loyalty, he gains taming points. These points are used to teach your pet new skills. There's not much else to pets, except keep them fed. Only beasts can be tamed. ********************************** // Pet Management // ---------------------------------- I was thinking of making this section a chapter on its' own. Maybe sometime in the near future. Anyways, Taking care of your pet is a big responsibility, and this section will take you through it, step by step. FIRST AND FOREMOST: I'm an alliance character. I would greatly appreciate horde info. Thanks Feeding your pet: Your pet needs food, and he/she never stops eating. Be sure to lookup your pet's diet(seen by pet stats mod, or Character=>pet) Your pet doesn't care if you get cheap food, So save yourself money(unless your rich) and buy cheap food. When you feed your pet, his loyalty level/happiness increases, and that leads us to... Loyalty: Your pet gains loyalty after he fights/eats. Your pet can gain 6 levels of loyalty. I don't know them off the top of my head, but I will include them in the next version. So what do I get for feeding my pet? Well the answer to that questions is this, your pet's damage increases as he gets happier. There's 3 lvls of happiness: Unhappy: 75% of normal damage Moderate: 100% of normal damage Happy: 125% of normal damage Happiness lvl decreases over time so keep an eye on it. Exp/Gaining lvls: Your pet gains lvls like you, but once it hits your lvl, it stops gaining exp. Your pet gains NORMAL exp from YOUR kills. If your pet alone has killed something, he will not get any exp. Stables: You can store up to 2 pets at a stable. These NPCs are located at inns in most towns/cities. You have to pay for the slots, 10s and 5g. This allows you to have multiple pets, for multiple occasions. Abilities: You can teach your pet abilities that you've learned from other monsters. The only real useful set is growl, as this keeps the hate away from you and on your pet. ********************************************************* ************************NOTE***************************** ********************************************************* The Following Information was NOT writtin by me, but needs to be in the guide. In other words: As Example: A raptor can do 159.62 dps at the most. EDIT 09.12.04 Additional Pet HINTS : - You can tame only beasts that have a "DIET". You can check this out with Skill/Spell Beast Lore (lvl 24) Before that Level you need to use trial and error method. (or better called try or run tactic) - Some beasts can learn more then one DPS Skill... For Example Cats, Bears and Raptors are able to CLAW and BITE. Some Pets can only use one. If you prefer a tanking pet remember to have some energy left for your GROWL (Taunt) ability. - There is no difference between a tamed elite / named or normal pet besides color and sometimes size. NPC Stats will change to a Pet standard as soon as it is tamed. - Tamed Pets loose all kinds of special abilities they had as NPC before. - To learn your pet some new skills like above: 1. Park your main pet in the stable 2. Tame a new pet with that skill you want to know 3. Fight some minutes with it in Melee range till you see that skill in your Pet skill list 4. Abandon new pet 5. Get Main pet out of your stable and invest training points in it ********************************** // Rare/Elite Pets // ---------------------------------- You have the option of charming rare/elite pets. These are the monsters with a silver or gold dragon plate around their avatar. Silver = Rare or uncommon. These aren't as strong as elites. Gold= Elite. These are basically super charged monsters with much more hp and strength than any other mobs. As for taming them, I suggest to use them for special times. Instances, raids, ect. They are harder to tame than other monsters, so I suggest using a freeze trap to slow movement speed, and aspect of the monkey to increase dodge rate. They seem to show no increased eating habits. They're just stronger, in combat. ---------------------------------------- | Chapter 6: Weapons for Hunters | ---------------------------------------- Hunters need weapons to hunt. (duh) We like to choose range weapons. Bows, guns, and crossbows is our range selection. Some races start out with a different specialty in one of those. Night Elves start and use bows, while dwarfs specialize in muskets, and shotguns. We do our best to keep up with the best weapons possible, but sometimes, it isn't easy. I will put some useful tips for choosing your weapons. It's your choice what to use, and I'm not making that choice for you. ********************************** // Range Weapons // ---------------------------------- Guns - I'm a dwarf character, so I use guns. They add a little bit more "Umph", but lacking speed. So, if you like all power and no speed you will enjoy guns. Bows - Bows pack a wallop as well, but in small amounts in a faster time. Sorta like MNKs on FFXI. If you have never played FFXI, it's the same as a DoT spell. "Damage over Time" Crossbows - I don't have too much experience with crossbows, but they seem like a more powerful version of the bow. At-least they are in other MMORPGS. I'll willingly accept user feedback on info about the crossbow. My contact info is in 2 places in this guide. *ADDED INFO from: Chad K.(chadtk555@msn.com) Crossbows damage and speed can vary but a majority of them are mid fast to slow. ********************************** // Melee Weapons // ---------------------------------- I'm going to write some info about this, but I personally don't melee. I use my pet for that. I will include some tips from my point-of-view, but don't be afraid to e-mail me with your info. So here goes nothing... Before Dual Wield: -Your trusty 1h(one handed) Axe will serve you well. I suggest change to 2h(two handed) swords, 2h axes as early as possible. I use a 2h sword currently. (Stone cutter claymour of agility > dual wield) After Dual Wield: -Here it is, Dual Wield. Go grab two awesome axes, swords and start shredding enemies apart. As for those of us who use range more, I suggest to stick to something 2h. In case you get dazed by Aspect of the cheetah, or helping people in newb zones. **NOTE** Weapon enchants are awesome, and sometimes look cool, like beast slaying. It's your choice on what enchants you want. ---------------------------------------- | Chapter 7: Armor | ---------------------------------------- There's alot of armor in WoW. Hunters get to use all of it except plate. Cloth and Leather before level 40, and mail at 40. So what armor should i wear? Well, Focus all your attention on the agility. If armor has agility, get it. If another piece has more agility, Buy that instead. -Basically, you want lots of agility. **Special note on melee hunters: Since you melee more, focus on strength, stamina, and agility. I'm not going to list all the armor, because there's no room, and this isn't an armor guide. As a hunter buy leather with +agility and call it good. If your one of those people who like to be in shiny plate, play warrior or paladin. We hunters stick to ugly leather and make good use out of it. ---------------------------------------- | Chapter 8: For the Horde (BETA) | ---------------------------------------- Iam getting more info about horde hunters. So I'm going to remodel this section. Enjoy~ ********************************** // Pet Management // ---------------------------------- To start with, here's a simple, yet helpful walkthrough sent to me by basketball_guy29. ----------------------------------------------------------- guide for taming the beast and tame wolf: When you are lvl 10 and doing the taming quest, you have to tame a lvl 6 boar, a lvl 8 surf crawler, and a lvl 8 scorpid. (well that's the monsters i have to tamed) The boar could be found at north of Razor Hill, the surf crawler can be found at south-east of Senj'in Village,(u have to swim there, its at one of the island in Echo Isles) and the scorpid can be found south of Ogrimmar, behind the mountains. Just use your tracking beast skill to know where those beasts are. And about the lvl 10-12 wolf (worg), you could get to undercity by going to the Zeppelin master a little east outside of the Ogrimmar gate. Wait for the ship to come, then get on the ship to get to undercity. A little south of Undercity is the wolf (worg) which is a good beast you can tame, like dev3113 mentioned. ----------------------------------------------------------- Additional Info by Dev3113. ----------------------------------------------------------- The best starting pet if you want fair dps would be a worg (wolf) found in silver pine forest just south of undercity they range from lvl 10-12. Crossroads is the best place to go if you are lvl 12-20 for leveling because their are tons of quests in that area including rachet. If you want easy free meat kill some plainstriders their meat drops fairly quickly. Also when you get to level 16 you can take a mission echelchi or something close to that and get a very sweet looking wolf. ----------------------------------------------------------- This guide needs a section for the horde, as they are part of WoW. I have NO information regarding the horde, though. So, I marked this section as a beta for that reason. Dev3113, and basketball_guy29 sent me an e-mail with some horde information. Please keep sending horde info, and I will add it. * IF you or someone you know is a horde hunter, tell them to e-mail me. * Make the subject: Horde Information * And I will add your information to this section. Please send me more info, and maybe I can get a good horde section going. ---------------------------------------- | Chapter 9: Professions | ---------------------------------------- This topic is largely discussed all over. "What profession should I choose?" To solve this as simple as possible, think of what you want to make and how it would benefit you. I chose skinning/lw(leatherworking), But to my disappointment, I was leveling my hunter faster than my leatherworking. Question answered for Adam W.: To start leatherworking, you must first create light armor kits and light leather to reach level 15. Then you start making armors. Skinning is a great money maker, and you get 2 forms of exp from doing it. skinning and level exp. Light leather sells on the auction for 20+ silver per stack(10 leathers = 1 stack) There's also engineering. You make guns, scopes, bullets, and explosive sheep. Plus, Engineering is a anti-wealth skill. You harvest MOST everything you use and mining is also, if not better, money maker than skinning. I don't know why I didn't choose engineering before, I might restart. The other crafts aren't really much use to you directly, but if you want cash, then go herb/alchemy or chanter and whatever. It's your decision, and you can always change your mind, and learn a different skill. ------------------------------------------ | Chapter 10: Useful Hunter UI add-ons | ------------------------------------------ For me, alot of my playing is in my UI setup. You may want to leave at 10 or 11. - What I did: I started a pally before my hunter, and so I got used to Elwynn forest and its' surroundings. I took my hunter here. ::Quests should take you to lvl 11 or 12 easily. Also take some time to familiarize yourself with the surrounding area for easy access to quest areas and travel. Level 12-20: - Westfall [Sentinel Hill, Westfall Lighthouse] - Loch Modan [Thelsamar, Farstrider's Lodge, Stonewrought Dam] - These lvls will shape your hunter playing style. Begin to see what pets suite you best. Use your pets to tank, while you blast away at the enemy. - What I did: I used a bear pet from lvl 11 to about 20. They make great tanks, have decent DPS, and their diet is every food. After 20, I used Wolf pets. I wanted a little more DPS. As for grinding/lvling, I stayed in Westfall for a long time. 11-17. See [Grinding Locations: Westfall] below for locations I used. Many quests are available in Westfall. After Westfall, I headed to Loch Modan. LOTS of quests in this area. See [Grinding Locations: Loch Modan] for grinding areas. The amount of quests in these two areas should lower your grinding time. [Grinding Locations: Westfall] At 11 or 12, You should go to the first farm on the right. Lots of harvester robot things, bandits, and beasts in the surrounding area. After about lvl 15 or so, Start killing the lvl 16 and 17 sets of beasts. (Great Goretusk, Greater Fleshripper) There's the next set of bandits (Highwayman, Knuckleduster, and Pathstalker) They have 2 major camps near longshore and moonbroke. Moonbroke is great for lvls 15-17, due to the amount of bandits in the area. [Grinding Locations: Loch Modan] -- I suggest coming here in the late teens. Stonewrought dam has lvl 19-20 evil dwarfs. With 18-20 beasts beyond them. There's also an elite area with 19-22 elites. Try and stay away from this place for now. The silver stream mine is also a good place to go. Lots of mobs. Level 20-22: - Redridge Mountains [Lakeshire, Tower of Azora in Elwynn] - What I did: I loved this place. Hit Lakeridge Highway and just fight your way till you hit the ogre camp at the end. Dragon whelps will go down very fast. Their spells hit hard, so make sure you let your pet do all the tanking. Level 23-30: Duskwood [Hushed bank, near darkshire, Cemetary] - Kill stuff around your lvl, maybe one higher. Wolves and spiders will be most of your prey. Wetlands [Sundown Marsh, Green Belt] - Fight raptors, crocs, and local humanoids Level 30-37: Stranglethorn Vale [Rebel Camp, Nesingwary's Expedition, Booty Bay] - Stack Quests, Finish up duskwood & wetlands. Kill crocs, and tigers. Hillsbrad Foothills [Southshore] Arathi Highlands [Refuge Pointe] Level 37-43: Stranglethorn Vale [Booty Bay, Nesingwary's Expedition, Rebel Camp] Arathi Mountains [Refuge Pointe, Faldir's Cove] Badlands Desolace Level 44-46 Feralas [Feathermoon Stronghold] Tanaris [Gadgetzan, Steamwheedle Port] Level 46-50 Tanaris [Gadgetzan, Steamwheedle Port] The Hinterlands [Aerie Peak] Level 50-55: Searing Gorge [Kalaran Windblade] Blasted Lands [Blood Elf camp] Un'Goro Crater [Marshal's Refuge] Felwood [Emerald Sanctuary] Burning Steppes [Morgan's Vigil] Level 55-60: Winterspring [Everlook, Starfall Village] Western Plaguelands [Chillwind Point] Eastern Plaguelands [Light's Hope Chapel] --------------------------------- | Chapter 12: PvP/Dueling | --------------------------------- Hunters do very well in pvp. They gain many snare skills, and a ability to cancel invisibility. Basic Strategy is: 1. Your pet is your tank(ALWAYS) 2. Mend pet comes in handy against low DPS classes 3. Flare, Hunter's mark against rouges PvP cant really be summed up in text. You have to get out there and see what works. See what class's weakness are, and exploit them. ********************************** // Hunter vs .... // ---------------------------------- This section is currently in beta. This section was bassed from information from Littlebry of dalaran. ********************************** // vs Warrior // ---------------------------------- If your pet has ran, died, or dont got a pet, you need to find another tank, the best is easy. Warrior. Warriors dont need to worry about getting pwned if they have high armor AC and damage, and Warriors can kill you very fast. If warriors have high AC and dmg, they will just attack you instead of the pet, to a high armored warrior, a pet is just an annoyance. TIPS: * Try to use any type of stun. It will slow them down. * Get a high AC pet. * Hope you dodge alot ;D -- FIXED: Azure Nightmare wrote: Dodging only lets them do a lot more damage to you. (OVERPOWER) It does weapon damage + some more after the opponent dodges. ********************************** // vs Rouge // ---------------------------------- SkateboyAC wrote: My strategy works almost everytime. The rogue will definitely be stealthed. you need to have your pet on passive, and don't have him attack the rogue. Use a flair, then Feign death. Since you should now be out of combat you can get up and place a freeze trap down. Now you run far back, put hunters mark on the rogue, get an aimed shot going and send your pet in. Right after the aimed shot, shoot a concussive shot then keep shooting arrows and stings while you kite him. ------------------------------- | Chapter 13: Future Updates | ------------------------------- What lies ahead in the future?
