Make sure you check the Credits section. :D Also, check out the walkthrough section, a bunch of help coming from a GREAT fan and player. :) Submitting this version to GameFAQs as well. NOTE: THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SUBMITTED THINGS TO ME, ESPECIALLY ALLAN G. 10.30.02 - Version 0.61 Did some very minor things - added some new sites that I'm letting use my FAQ. If you are interested on putting this FAQ up on your site, feel free to e-mail me, I almost always will let you. :) 10.29.02 - Version 0.60 I stayed home sick today with the stomach flu, so I tried to update as much as possible. This version will be submitted to GameFAQs, just as soon as I finish the 3rd and 4th level in the Walkthrough. No other news. 10.28.02 - Version 0.5o So I lied. ;) I didnt get all the sections done, but I got done through the level 3 in the walkthrough. Today I just finished up all the rest of the sections. Moves and Walkthrough still need to be worked on - but don't worry, it'll be done (hopefully) soon. Next version will be submittted to GameFAQs. 10.19.02 - Version 0.25 Well, I'm going to complete all of my sections EXCEPT for the walkthrough, so wish me luck! ;) On the walkthrough, I have written up to The Gates of Moria. Expect the walkthrough to be done in the near future. Feel free to send me any information you want to send (see Contact and Contribute Section), and I'll see if I can post it in the next review. ;) The Moves section will not also be worked on, feel free to send in things about that section (or any section for that fact). ******************************************************************************* ------------------ -Copyright Notice- ------------------ NOTE: This guide is copyright (c) 2002 by Joe Brunson. This famous series was first written by J.R.R Tolkien in the early 1900s. It has now turned into not only a series of books, but it has transformedinto a card game, a board game, movies, posters, magazines, and much more, including a game. If you don't know, this is the second game out of three. The first one is The Fellowship of the Ring. This game was often rated not so well, and in comparision to this one, is very inferior. If you are wondering which game to buy, this is definately your safest bet. ******************************************************************************* ---------- -Controls- ---------- When you read the FAQ, it is assumed that you know MOST controls. I normally explain the controls that you need to use, so don't worry about that. For extended control help (coming soon), look at the control that comes up when the game is loading a level. Here are the controls: Box/Square: Parrys. Parry is a move that allows you to block a move while taking NO damage. This can be very helpful, especially when you're playing one hard enemy. You can just simply tap Box/Square a lot, and parry most attacks. X: Normal Attack What's a normal attack? Really, just take a guess. It's a normal attack that varies between person to person. Some people are quicker than others. This is just a Aggressive Attack (see below) except weaker and quicker. This is probably the most used button. Triangle: Aggressive Attack An Aggressive Attack is exactly what it sounds like. It is a very aggressive attack. It attacks with basically all your force, and can, if your enemy has one, destroy your enemy's shield. Very handy move. Why would you want to use the Normal Attack if you have this attack? Well, if you're attacking something aggressively, you don't leave much room for defense, right? Same thing applys here. If you use this attack, then you're opponent can easily counter by Parrying or Normal Attacking before you can get your attack in. L1: Ranged Weapon Attack I'm going to use the example of Legolas. Obviously, his ranged weapon are the arrows he shoots. You can use these by holding L1, then remotely aim (it normally automatically locks on to your target), then tap X to shoot arrows. If you can't think for why this is useful, then think harder. ;) Start: Pause Menu Uh, this is a pause menu. Yay for this? It has three choices (normally) to select from, and they pretty much mean what they say. Not much else to say about this. ;) As I said before, there are MANY more controls than this. The pause screen will tell you what they are, but not what they do. Any more info on this would be appreciated, as I must go on to the other sections. ;) ******************************************************************************* ------------ -Characters- ------------ There are three characters that you can play as. There really isn't one superior character, it's more a matter of preference and skills. Legolas: The Elf Personally, Legolas is my favorite character in the books, so the same applys in the game. He is a very quick character that has the ability to shoot arrows. His main downfault is that he is not very strong. He also can't absorb hits very well. If you are good at dodging blows, and then coming back with quick hits, Legolas is the man for you. ;) Gimli: The Dwarf Gimli is as he appears to be in the book: a very small, yet well built dwarf. As you cna probably see by the amazing graphics, he is very strong, but his size ways him down. This makes him very slow. However, he can easily take out opponents in one hit, if they don't get him first. If you like to hit people, and not have to hastle with the evading, Gimli is your best bet. Aragorn: The Man/Ranger Aragorn is like the Mario of most games. He is a very well rounded character that anybody can use. If this is your first time playing this game, then Aragorn will most likely be your best bet. If you don't have any strengths or weaknesses, then Aragorn will probably be the right person for you. ******************************************************************************* ------------- -Walkthrough- ------------- **NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD!** Walkthrough Notes: I'm going to put this in a format that I'll TRY to have every character that you can use in every stage. However, I'm not going to do that right at this moment, as getting the rest of my guide done is my first priority right now. I'll have the first three levels up, until you get to Watcher of the Water in the third level. Any additional strategys that you'd like to be seen in this FAQ can be sent to me. See the contributions portion for information. All difficulty levels are out of five stars. NOTE: Most of the time, All the characters work the same. If in that case, I'll put a strategy for every character in general. -*-Before the Game: Introduction-*- When you first turn on your game, you get some very life-like cutscenes. The first part is about the Rings. If you don't know about them, feel free to listen, but you do not need to know this. It would definately help you comprehend the game a lot better. Listen when it comes to the part about The One Ring (also known as The Ruling Ring). That leads directly in to... -*-Stage One: Prolouge-*- Difficulty: * Explanation: I'm not even sure if you can lose this one. ;) When I was watching, the health bar stayed all the way up the whole time. This is a good level to experiment on. Character: Isildur Why: Considering 1) You don't get to chose your character. 2) He's the only one you can play as at this time, I don't think you're going to use anyone else. ;) Strategy: Well, this is pretty easy. Like I said above, this is a pretty good time to experiment, as it is impossible to lose. I'll explain how to win this mission anyway. First off, just kill a lot of the Orcs (bad people things) with the X Button (Normal Attack). If you're people die, oh well. ;) Just continue to kill the Orcs regardless if you get hurt or not. Wait until the cut-scene appears. Now when the soldier Orcs come that have shields, you have to use Triangle (Aggressive Attack) to break it, then feel free to kill. Continue doing this until ANOTHER cut-scene appears. Here, you get to see Mt. Doom (the mountain you're supposed to bring the Ring to) emit some nice fireballs. You don't really have to move from them because you can't die, but it's nice because they kill the Orcs. ;) Continue your onslaught until another (but the last, really) cut-scene appears. You get to see some scenes from the movie where Isildur cuts of Sauron's finger and gets the ring. :) *MISSION COMPLETE!* -*-Stage Two: Weathertop-*- Difficulty: ** Explanation: This actually could be hard if you don't know what to do. But since I'm here, I'm sure I could easily downgrade this to one star, or even less. :) Character: Aragorn Why: Again, you really don't have a choice. Aragorn is the only option. Strategy: Well, if there's onde bonus, you do get to see the Hobbits (I believe Frodo, Pippin, Merry, and Sam are there). This is the scene in the movie where Frodo and Aragorn (at this time known as Strider) go to bed, and when they wake up find Merry, Pippin, and Sam with a fire. This helps the Ringwraiths find them, and this is the battle. At the beginning of this battle, there's just one Ringwraith. You also learn at the beginning of the battle that Square is Parry. This will help you a LOT in this battle. While there's just one Ringwraith, don't even try to attack it. Just simply Parry all of its attacks until another one comes. They both don't attack you at once, so keep clicking away at the Square button. When the third one appears, then you actually get to start the fight. Immediately after you parry one of the Ringwraith's attacks, run over to the fire in the center and press Triangle. Now that you have a torch, you can set the Ringwraiths on fire. Sounds like fun, huh? :D The only hard part is, they always seem to avoid your attacks. To do hit them with the fire, resume your Parrying. When one of them attacks you, simply parry their attack, the EXTREMELY quickly tap Triangle two times. At this rate, 3-4 hits will easily finish off one of the Ringwraiths. Whenever your fire runs out, run into the middle of the stage again, and press Triangle on the fire. This will re-ignite your torch. Kill one more Ringwraith, and then watch the cut-scene. You see that Frodo gets so scared that he puts on the Ring. Not really the best idea, but hey. ;) The one plus to this part is that there's only one Ringwriath that you have to worry about left. Now you can see the outline of a Frodo running around, and the Ringwraith stalking it. Make sure you have your torch, and then go up to the Ringwraith and hit it. This should be pretty easy to kill it, just never run away from it for too long. When you kill the last Ringwraith, then two more come in. Before you can get a chance to kill them (literally, it's part of the cutscene), they stab Frodo. So now you have two Ringwraiths and an injured Frodo. Not looking too bright, eh? Well, this is still pretty easy. You have to do this VERY QUICKLY! That's the keything here. If you dont do it quickly, then Frodo will die. Frodo's health is on a bar on the left, so kill both Ringwraiths before the time runs out! Once you kill them both, you get to see a nice cut-scene/movie on the Council of Elrond! ------- Strategy From: Thomas730 ------- A strategy that works for me is to attack the ringwraiths one at a time. also, if you hit the ringwraiths quickly enough, they will not be able to attack. If you repeatedly attack the ringwraiths, they will not have time to recover, your skill meter will go up, and you will score a perfect on your level. This stratagey is easy to do and you will not lose very much if any health while attacking. ------- Thanks! ------- *MISSION COMPLETE!* Note: Now you can purchase skills. -*-Stage 3: Gates of Moria-*- Difficulty: ** Explanation: Just as long as you grab the healing potions, you should be okay. The boss is fairly easy as well. Character: Any Why: Well, as it is the first REAL level, it's pretty easy, and no character has any REAL advantages in here. ;) Strategy: Like I said before, the main thing is to grab as MANY potion things as possible. This will help you a LOT! Watch the cut-scene with Saruman and such, then you see how if you play as Gimli, you and Aragorn go up ahead. If you play as Aragorn or Legolas, you and Gimli go up ahead. The other person will be played as the computer, and you won't meet up until the end of the level. Follow up the mountain path until you meet up with a group of Orc that come sprinting down the mountain. They shouldn't cause much trouble. ;) Continue along, and then the side of the mountain will explode, and a gang of Orcs come out at you. Kill them as well. Another wall will explode up ahead. Here you see a cut-scene with Gimli running ahead, killing an Orc. Another Orc pops out of the mountain, and right before he gets to Gimli, Aragorn or Legolas nails him with an arrow right in the neck. :) Now, this part gets a little tougher. For a start, you have to avoid the flaming arrows the Orcs are now shooting at you. Here you come across another cut-scene. Let kill all the orcs that are close, while deflecting the arrows by parrying when needed. When you have killed all the close Orcs, use L1 and X to shoot arrows at the Orcs higher up. More Orcs will climb up the mountain, but you should be able to kill them quite easily. Go inside what seems to be a cave (I'm not really sure what it is), and then crack open the chest to your right, and then get ambushed by more Orcs. ;) There are some archer up ahead, but nothing should really trouble you until you get to the marsh. When you approach the marsh, wade to the left. All sorts of Orcs and things will pop out of the water. Archers may be a problem here, but simply Parry all their arrows, and then when you have a chance, shoot arrows at them. This is a spot where grabbing potions is VITAL. Sometimes, almost every Orc drops one, and sometimes, no Orcs do. Just try to survive here. (I'm making it sound like it's hard, but it really isn't compared to the levels up ahead.) Continue to wade across the marsh until the Watcher in the Water (The big thing in the water with tentacles) cut-scene comes up. It's quite a cool looking boss! -BOSS: WATCHER IN THE WATER- Like I said at the beggining, this boss is pretty easy. All you have to do is parry his attacks (whipping his tentacles at you), until all of them are sticking up. Run up and cut one of them off. Now the Watcher in the Water comes out from under the water. Shoot an arrow at him, then resume your position parrying. Continue this process until the boss is dead, which is around 5 hits. It's very easy, a lot easier than the rest of the level! Now you get to see the cut-scene of entering the Mines of Moria. Enjoy! ------- Strategy From: Michael M. ------- At the start of the level, stay right and walk to the rock where the cliff edge starts. There is a chest covered in ice. Use fierce attack to break the ice coating and open the chest. ------- Thanks! ------- *MISSION COMPLETE!* -*-Stage 4: Balin's Tomb-*- Character: Legolas Why: Legolas is good in this stage if he has some of the things that I will explain a little later. ;) Rating: *** Explanation: The boss is pretty tough, but other than that, the level is a breeze. Strategy: First you start out, Gimli finds the tomb of Balin in a cut-scene. He becomes emotional, and all of the characters follow him into the tomb. Then, suddenly, they hear a noise. Orcs come bursting through the door while Legolas and Aragorn shoot arrows at them. The main strategy here until the boss here is to kill as many Uruk-Hais as possible without injuring yourself too much. Don't pick up any potions unless absolutely necessary. Just continue to kill Orcs for a while. When you've slayed a lot of Orcs, a cut-scene reveals a great rumbling in the background. All the Orcs scatter (but they're still there in the level). Here comes the Cave Troll of Moria! -BOSS: CAVE TROLL OF MORIA- Now for the hard part of this level. The boss is EXTREMELY slow, which gives you some advantage. However, his attacks are quite powerful, which are what all the potions are for. Run up to the beast and aggressive attack it until he hits you. Then scatter and find a potion. Repeat this until the Cave Troll of Moria is about down to half its health (its health is gigantic, by the way). In a cut-scene, it gets so angry that it breaks its club! Here comes the whip! Your character scampers up into the upper part of the level. This is where Legolas ability comes in handy. If you were smart, then you chose completed the past level with all 3 characters. This helps you gain experience and levels. If you have some experience left, chose the ability for Legolas that gives him more health. This is a BIG plus here! What you have to do is shoot the Cave Troll with arrows, while evading his whip. The whip hurts a LOT. Now, there's one more twist to this situation, which you could look at good or bad. There are Orcs that ocasionally try to come and kill you. If you kill them quick, you could get a free potion. To evade the Cave Trolls whip, stand behind a pillar, and the Cave Troll will hit the pillar instead of you. Sooner or later, however, the pillars break, and the Cave Troll can easily hit you. Move on to the next pillar to the left. In between all this, you must be shooting him with arrows. Extra health helps because when you run out of pillars (which I normally do), then he's free to hit you. You still can evade, but its hard. Parrying does not work. Here's some advice for this: If you do not suceed, try, and try again. ;) Trust me, just keep trying and you'll get it soon enough. ------- Strategy From: Brian H. ------- I enjoyed reading your walkthrough, and I wanted to give you some tips that worked for me when fighting that big-butt troll. I found while waiting for the orcs to get killed off, I could sit in the back corner and let them come to me. I'd kick them with the circle button, then R1 and stab them while they lay on the ground. When the big boy comes, run around behind himand smack him once with triangle, then run off and repeat. Finally, when you're on the ledge and he tries to hit you with the chain, you don't need to hide behind the pillars, you can stand in one place, pop him with three (sometimes four) arrows, then immediately move to the side. He'll whip where you were. Repeat and the guy's toast. ------- Thanks! ------- *MISSION COMPLETE* -*-Stage ?: The Deeping Wall-*- Author's Note: The ? appears because I'm skipping some stages. ;) ------- Strategy Submitted by: Allan G ------- There are 3 sections to the wall left, front, and right. I was playing as Aragorn so I left Gimli to defend the left side by himself and only checking on him once and a while. All you have to kick off the ladders(circle), you don't need to spend your time defeating every single orc and goblin. If you do that the bar at the upper right corner will continue to go up as more ladders are put up along the wall and if it is full, you lose. Also, don't worry about the incoming arrows and projectiles, they usually won't hit you and even if they do just take down a few enemies to get a healing potion. *MISSION COMPLETE* *-*Stage ?: Breached Wall-*- ------- Strategy Submitted by: Allan G ------- For me this was the hardest part as you get no back up. You have to defend an entrance to the civilians at the back of you. Numerous enemies will rush in waves to try and bash the door. Most will ignore you as their goal at the moment is finding a way in. Also, those kamikaze guys are back and will, at first, attack in or with waves take'em out with your ranged weapon and watch them explode and kill everyone around them. The best way to handle this is either go berzerk and start slashing or charge up your fierce attack and wait for them to get near. As a priority, take out those kamikaze guys as they do serious damage. After what has seemed to make you a god for taking out all those enemies, they'll send in a catapult but first you'll have to go through the soldiers, shielded foes, and archers they sent with it. You have to pick your fights carefully cause if they gang up on you you're pretty much dead. After laying waste to them, move on to the catapult and charge up your attack(hold triangle) and destroy the front, left, and right side of the catapult itself. Don't try to take out the guys behind the catapult cause they can't be reached. ------- Thanks! ------- *MISSION COMPLETE* *-*Stage ?: Hornburg Courtyard*-* ------- Strategy Submitted by: Allan G ------- Before you start this battle be sure to have taken a break cause this battle will make your hands hurt. If you have a certain objective to complete don't spend your time killing every orc, goblin, and urak-hai. This is where your skills and techniques at combing combos all come down to. Your basically protecting a wooden wall that stands between you and the king and civilians. The objectives: 1) protect the wall, 2)save Legolas, 3) run back and protect the wall from ever-increasing enemies, 4)take out the archers, 5)go back and protect the wall 6)take out the two trolls 2)To save Legolas there is a stairs at the opposite end of the big wooden door that leads to wall, notice the people fight in the background on the second wall. You can't save them, so just move along and save Legolas. 4)When you hear "Archers on the Wall" run back to the wall. Remember those guys fighting in the background? Well that place has now been taken up by enemies with flaming arrows whom you can now target with your range weapon. Take out at least a majority of them and then run back to the wall becuase the wooden barracade is taking a beating. 6)Two trolls will appear and its your job to stop them. Take out the closest enemies near the trolls so you won't be interrupted while doing a charged attack(hold triangle). Take out both trolls and then watch the cut-scene. NOTE: If you really suck at the combos and it seems like you're taking too long on just one enemy try using the right analog stick. While the left controls the direction, the right stick has attacks. Rotate the right stick clockwise or counter-clockwise and you'll start doing the special moves you purchased more often. You'll also take out more enemies at an incredible pace making the last line of defense battle almost a piece-of-cake. ------- Thanks! ------- REST OF THE FAQ SOON TO COME! ******************************************************************************* ---------------- -Codes & Extras- ---------------- Do not send me e-mails saying that Gamesharkers suck.
