This delightfully dim-witted marsupial has been the hero of many adventures on the PlayStation, GBA, and now PS2 and Xbox. VU Games and Traveller's Tales teamed up to bring back Crash in "Crash Twinsanity". The game was released on September 28, 2004. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.2 Story ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's been three years since the evil scientist, Neo Cortex, and his evil mask buddy Uka Uka were trapped in ice in the wastelands of Antarctica. Now Cortex has returned to the island to find Crash and make him pay... but this time a more sinister presence has invaded. Can Cortex and Crash set aside their differences to save the world? =============================================================================== ===== 2.0 THE BASICS ========================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 Game Start ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Game ========= Start a new game. The metal/wood crates need to be slammed to open them. Aku Aku Crate ============== Here you can collect another Aku Aku mask to protect you from enemy hits. Extra Life Crate ================= Bust open the goofy Crash crates to get lives. Metal Crate ============ These are indestructible and can only be used as platforms. Jumping Crates =============== The crates with the yellow arrows will bounce crash up without breaking. TNT Crate ========== Jump on this to start the timer, then back away! They blow up after three seconds to clear the path of trees or nitro crates. TNT Plunger Crate ================== Step on this plunger to blow up a nitro crate nearby. Nitro Crate ============ These crates are highly unstable and should NEVER be touched. They will explode with the slightest tap. Switch and Outline Crates ========================== If you see outlined crates it means there is a switch crate nearby, with a "!". Hit that crate to fill in the outlined crates. Continue Crate =============== Touch the "C" crates to activate the continue point. You'll start from there if you happen to die. Autosave Crate =============== The crates with a planet on them represent autosave points if autosave is enabled. Use them to save your progress. =============================================================================== ===== 3.0 WALKTHROUGH ========================================================= NOTE: The gem locations are NOT in the walkthrough. Refer to the Gem Locations section for those. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 N.Sanity Isle ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part 1 ======= The first part of N.Sanity Isle is a breeze. Collect the Aku Aku mask to reunite with the ol' wooden guy, then head towards the waterfall and skull rock at one end of the beach. Bounce on the worm and hit the TNT atop the rock to get some fruits and the two extra lives at the end. Explore this end of the beach for more fruit, then jump up to the top of the fish rocks to get a slew of fruit and some more lives. Roll the red seed into the hole nearby to get a fruit tree. Avoid the water to keep your lives and head towards the other end of the beach. If you use the slide and ramp to get to the island out in the ocean, then return to the beach by jumping on the arrow crates, you'll get another extra life. Spin any monkeys or crabs that try to get in your way, which shouldn't really be a problem. Get to the end of the beach to meet Cortex, er, I mean Coco. Follow "her" onto the grass to enter Jungle Bungle. Part 2 ======= Once you finish Cavern Catastrophe you will return to N.Sanity Isle. You can return to the first part of the island by turning right and going through a long cave (packed with fruit and lives), or continue through the beach to keep going. There are a couple of gems 'n such on the beach, as well as fruit. Collect what you can then run up the ramp to the cliff near the beach. Collect the life on the right side of the cave, then enter the cave and get through it much like you've gotten through every other cave in the game so far. At the end of the cave you'll enter Totem Hokum. Part 3 ======= Ah, you've just finished Totem Hokum and are now back at N.Sanity Isle. There's not much to do now, so go talk to the ostrich guy and then spin Cortex to grab him. Use him to slam the worms on the left for some Whack-A-Worm fun and make the trees grow. Use the trees to get to the top and meet the next boss. Boss: Totem God ================ This guy seems big and tough, but it's a slice of cheese cake. Start by running around him and continue running until he turns around and opens the other mouth. Jump and toss Cortex into the red target to hit the Totem God, then pick up Cortex and keep running. Repeat this two more times and spin any small totems that appear to finish it off. Move on to the beach area to find more fruit and lives among the natives. Spin off those natives and collect everything, then jump into the boat at the dock to move on to the Iceberg Lab. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.2 Jungle Bungle ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow Cortex into the jungle and simply do what he does. Spinning is always the best way to get rid of enemies, and jumping should also be a simple task. Get to the large cave in the statue's mouth and press Circle as you run to spin off the native, then head left from the cave mouth for an extra life and other extras. Enter the cave when you're ready. Gather fruit as you go and get the continue crate. The next path is a lot of spinning enemies, some jumping over pits, and avoiding logs. Those logs kill you with one hit, so tread cautiously as you pass them. Slide the native and run left to find an extra life behind a rock. Follow Cortex once again and body slam the first worm to get it in the right spot. Get to the top of the mountain using the worms, then hit the TNT and let it blow down the tree. Head along (enjoy the beautiful scenery of course) and follow the obvious path. Avoid nitro crates at all costs and duck under the logs to continue along. The green rock in the center of the pit will fall, so quickly get across and collect the life and fruit along the way. Listen to that poor lil' fella's tale, then spin him. How dare he quit on the job? Pop the autosave crate and collect that extra life to face the first boss. Boss: Neo Cortex ================= Jump to avoid his locked blasts and bombs, then spin when you see Cortex charge his gun. This will rebound the blast back to him. Do this three times to easily take him out. Boss: Mecha Bandicoot ====================== Cortex's old buddy, N. Gin, will now appear in a new gizmo called Mecha Bandicoot. Start on the far left or right and run the opposite way to get out of the way of the missiles, then run the other way to get away from the chainsaw. After those two attacks it will fire a large green blast like Cortex's, so do another spin to hit it back. After two hits the chainsaw arm will fall off and it'll be all missiles. Two more hits will destroy the missile arm, and three final hits will destroy it completely. On to Cavern Catastrophe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.3 Cavern Catastrophe ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roll through the first part of the tunnel and grab the extra life on the left, then immediately turn right to avoid the nitro crate. Speed through for the remainder of the tunnel until you get to a cavern with a large statue. Roll along the wooden track and hit the three crystals to make a rock fall below and get the extra life. Head into the next tunnel and go left through the skull door for some extras, or on through the normal tunnel. Continue along to get to the next cavern with several wooden tracks running through it. Take the right branch and avoid the nitro crates, then speed up to jump over a large acid pit. Keep rolling into the wooden wheel Get to the continue crate and wait for the elevator to come down and use it to get up to the next area. There are two lives on the right side if you wish to risk it (roll in and out quickly), then head left into the next elevator. Hit the three crystals in the right order (red, yellow, green) to make a rock fall. Roll into the next part. You can roll to the right and use the jumping crates to get some extras, or get to the wooden wheel on the other side. Get through that set of wooden wheels to fall into a statue and come out on a wide platform. Here Cortex will find the first power crystal, only to be ambushed by underground robot bugs. Body slam all four of the buttons on their machine to make 'em go away, then collect the crates in the area for some fruit and lives. Spin into Cortex to grab him, then get onto the next elevator when you're ready to go. Spin the wheel to go up the elevator and onto the next platform. Jump and press Circle to launch Cortex to the lever on the other side, but remember to ALWAYS pick up Cortex before moving on. You can't beat the level without him. Go up the next elevator and make sure to avoid the gas blasts. Head along and get through the next tunnel (much like the previous ones), then hit the red and yellow crystals you see. Throw Cortex across the gap to hit the green crystal and make a rock drop. Jump across the gap and pick up Cortex to continue. Now, the final part with the elevators has to be done correctly if you want to get through it. As you roll the elevator up, make sure to hit every crystal along the way. The order is always red, yellow, green. If you do this the drill will get delayed, giving you more time to climb up. Keep going until you get to the top. Run through the tunnel and clear the way of any malign crates to reach the end and return to N.Sanity Isle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.4 Totem Hokum ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It starts with Cortex running across a bridge in a mad panic. You need him alive (unfortunately) so run along and follow him. Cortex will run along as you destroy things that may get in his way. If anything does get in his way, you'll lose a life. The best thing to do is keep as far ahead as possible (except when holding up a weight). Here's what you'll have to do: - Hit TNT plungers to blow up nitro crates. - Trigger switch crates "!" to fill in outline crates. - Trigger mantraps. - Lift spiked weights. - Spin into stone supports to break them. - Spin wheels to extend bridges. - Jump on spiked platforms to flatten them. - Spin the man-eating plants. - Wait for Cortex to step on buttons to lift spiked doors. After that you'll enter a large cave. Get through it to reach the river on the other side. This part involves jumping on canoes, rocks, and docks to get across the river. You will also need to duck behind reeds to avoid being seen by the tribesmen in the watch towers. Try it when you get to the first dock by ducking behind the reeds. The tribesman will look out with his binoculars and miss you. Continue along to get under the watch tower. Use the canoes to cross again and blow up the TNT next to the tree. Duck behind the reeds again and wait for the native to take his binoculars away and quickly jump under his tower. Duck into the canoe to avoid this last guy, then use the traps and get past the tower. The next part is similar, but with wooden posts instead. Spin the boars and duck behind the posts to get past this part and onto the beach. Spin any natives who get in your way and heads towards the boat for a bunch of extra lives and fruit. You can use the barrel in the water or the hay stack to reach the extra lives out in the water. Head left from there to find a long line of outline crates and some stones. Use them to reach the gem is you wish. Head to the mantraps on the side of the cliff and use them to get to the top. Collect all the goodies and enter the village to save. At this point I suggest you run around the whole village and spin all the natives and boars. Leave the worm alone. Also collect any and all crates while you're exploring the place. Now return to the worm and body slam it. Keep following the worm (use the dust in the ground) and body slam it until you get to Cortex's totem pole. Bounce on the worm to reach the power crystal and "rescue" Cortex. When you see the chief and natives appear, RUN DOWN! They'll be chasing you as you run down the screen, so quickly head down and keep your eyes open for obstacles that may appear. Keep your thumb on the jump button to avoid stuff and grab the gem when you see it. Keep in mind that the green platforms in the pits will fall after you step on them. Enter the cave when you reach the end and get to the other side and return to N.Sanity Isle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.5 Iceberg Lab ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part 1 ======= Walk up the ramp and talk to Cortex, then explore the exterior of the iceberg lab for extra fruit and gems. Proceed to the right side of the lab and enter the cave in the ice mountain to go to Ice Climb. Oh, and FYI: you can always return to N.Sanity Isle by returning to that boat. Part 2 ======= You will appear here, on a platform high above the ground, after going through Ice Climb. Jump on the platforms to get across, but do not linger on the "N" platforms that float in place. They will fall if you wait too long. Once you get to the lab the main door will open and you will enter the inner sanctum of Cortex himself. Very evil-looking indeed. Watch the cutscene fun and then get ready for some fightin'. Grab Cortex and spin attack all of those bug things that appear from the portals. Spin off three waves and the twins will leave... for now. Follow Cortex through the door on the right and ride the "N" platform down. Enter the next big door to enter the Psychotron. Cortex does a lot of talking, and it basically means you need two more crystals to continue through the game. So, follow him and hop on the next platform to ride to a cave on the top of the mountain. Go through the cave and get to the room at the end to enter Slip Slide Icecapades. Part 3 ======= You'll appear back at Iceberg Lab after completing High Seas Hi-Jinks. Run up to the front of the building and jump onto the shaking platform on the left. Enter the door on the right to get back to the Psychotron. Run to the right and enter the door after the cutscene (don't touch Coco or you'll lose a mask). Go outside and use the floating platforms straight ahead to get to the blimp. Next up will be a short fight where you control Cortex. Press Square to fire his gun, and hold the button to fire a charged shot. Collect the ammo on the right when you run out to easily defeat the bug dudes. Now you'll move on to Academy of Evil. Part 4 ======= So you went to the Academy of Evil and have returned triumphant. You can enter the chamber ahead to enter Twinsanity Island, but be warned: once you enter Twinsanity Island you will not be able to return to collect gems you may have missed in other levels. If you're ready, enter the Psychotron. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.6 Ice Climb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Collect everything and spin the two bats in the first chamber, then continue on to the next chamber. Run along the right side of the chamber and look out for the hanging stalactites. Spin any bats and penguins along the way as well. Eventually you'll reach the floating platforms and gears. It's simple enough, just jump onto the gears and wait to find a floating platform or conveyor elevator nearby. If you're near the ice walls then you may have to jump onto the metal scaffolding around the sides, which is no big deal. Make your way up and spin attack any cameras, bats, and penguins that try any funny stuff. Eventually you'll reach the top and yet another tunnel (ya gotta be sick of these by now). Get through the tunnel and collect everything. Cortex's finances have gotten him in a bit of trouble, but it's nothing his evil genius gun can't fix. Grab Cortex and head along to the left where you'll start running into red pipes. These things kill with one touch, so throw Cortex over to the other side and perform a high jump to get over there yourself. As always, remember to never leave Cortex behind. Next, throw Cortex across the gap to have him pull the lever and spin the bats nearby. Go over and continue along until you get to the high red pipe. Toss Cortex as usual but this time slide under it (run and press Circle). Get to the gears and stay away from the pipes, always dragging Cortex behind you. Keep gear jumping until you reach the metal scaffolding on the other side. Avoid the penguin and keep going, then toss Cortex to the lever on the far left side. He'll pull the lever and extend the bridge, allowing you to get to the elevator. Throw Cortex through the ice wall on top of the cliff. Run along and spin any bats that appear, then jump onto the gear with Cortex. Stay on the outside part of the gear to avoid the nitro crates, then jump onto the metal walkway. Get past the pipes and turn right to see a series of levers on a cliff next to the mountain. Throw Cortex at the levers to make several platforms appear ahead. Jump on them to get across, and make sure to wait until all three levers are pulled before doing any crazy jumping. Get on the gear and get to the cliff to return to Cortex. Throw him at the ice wall and enter the tunnel, then throw him at the ice wall at the end. Time to face another old buddy. Boss: Uka Uka ============== Here you have to throw Cortex at the three levers around the main platform, and each time the lever is pulled a button will appear in the middle. Step on the button to make flames appear from the vents on the platform, but make sure to stay away from those vent circles or you'll get burned yourself. Uka Uka's attacks are a large snow ball and a path of ice crystals along the ground, both of which can be easily avoided. Hit Uka Uka three times to defeat him. Follow Cortex after the family reunion and get through the next tunnel to return to Iceberg Lab. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.7 Slip Slide Icecapades ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This one's fairly easy, and quite fast. So I can't quite write a walkthrough for it. Here are some general tips: - Do not touch the spiked mines. They will roll down with you and eventually blow up. - The penguins won't really hurt you. - Hit the green switches to raise ramps ahead. They will often help in crossing over gaps and reaching good items. - Stay in the middle of the screen to catch the grind after passing the chicken house. - Watch out for the falling ice stalactites. - When you get to the floating icebergs, jump over the small ones. - The electric barriers spin you with one hit. - As a snowball you can roll through anything, so just head down the hill. At the end of the slide you'll fall out of a hole and onto Dingodile's out-house. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.8 High Seas Hi-Jinks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proceed towards the ship and avoid the nitro crates. Inch across the ice to reach the crates or you may otherwise get blown up. Collect the stuff and get to the end of the path to enter the ship. Use the plunger behind the crates to blow up the nitros and enter the first room. Grab what you can from the sides (precise jumping is involved, but by now it should be fairly easy) and proceed through the middle. Wait for the rhinos to swing past before jumping onto the next piston. Grab the extra lives by hitting the plunger on the right side. Jump across the pistons and wait under the barrels that the rhino at the end tosses down. Spin him when you get to the top and turn right to see some springs. Jump on the springs and get to that alcove on the left. Run along and follow the top path to get to some jumping crates at the end. Follow the wall to get to the alcove on the other side and get to the end of the path to head to the next room. Hit the sack with the target and jump on the platform as it approaches, then do the same with the second sack. Get to the door to continue. Use the large rotating pistons in this room to cross over the water and get to the platform at the end. The easiest way to do it is to jump on the pistons just as they rise out of the water. Ride the platform up to get to the next room. Use the TNTs in the next room to blow up the nitros and get the goodies, then start jumping across the missile pit by using the springs. Follow the path to the door at the end and enter. Jump on that next platform to rise up to a tunnel, and ahead lies the next boss. Boss: N. Gin ============= Extremely easy. Run around in a circle to avoid his missiles (they come out in three bursts), then stop next to one of the three legs that hold up his crow's nest. Move just as he throws a TNT crate to make it land next to the leg and blow it up. Destroy three of the legs to finish him off and move on. Now I don't know about you, but this next part freaked the hell out of me. I mean, what kinda crazy character puts in a meat-eating walrus that busts through walls like the Kool-Aid Man?! Anyway, this should remind you of the chase with the natives back at Totem Hokum. Keep your eyes at the bottom of the screen to look out for holes, crates, flames, and nitro crates that might appear. Remember that when in doubt, follow the fruit. Once you get to the end your ol' buddy N. Gin will stop by once more, if only for a second or two. Next up are some more of Cortex's hired help. Boss: N. Tropy and N. Brio =========================== N. Brio will turn into some kind of giant frog, but it's easy to avoid him. Simply run around the iceberg until he jumps into the ocean. N. Tropy will be slightly tougher. Run around the ice flows and jump from one to the next, and do not linger because they fall into the water. Continue jumping around until N. Tropy's shield goes down, then jump over there and spin him. Repeat it all three times to defeat them. Now you'll return for part 3 of Iceberg Lab. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.9 Academy of Evil ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part 1 ======= Run forward and talk to Cortex next to the fountain. Collect any fruits and other extras from the area then enter the fountain. Follow the path until you get to a four-way intersections, then proceed through the open tunnels to reach Cortex and the Boiler Room of Doom level. Part 2 ======= Collect any stuff you may need and enter the green door to proceed to Classroom Chaos. Part 3 ======= You'll start in a green chamber after completing Rooftop Rampage. Cross the pit to meet the headmistress herself, Madam Amberly. Boss: Madam Amberly ==================== Amberly will start by opening hatches on that thin platform you're standing and releasing fire. You'll see smoke appear just before they open. You can close the hatches by shooting tapping Square to shoot quickly. She'll open a few of those and then switch to some floating objects. Shoot the objects before they get to you and she will turn around. Shoot that thing on her back to take away one point. Repeat this two more times to defeat her. Once you've defeated her you'll switch to Crash. Run outside to find yourself on the roof of the academy. Collect any items you like and ride the platform on the right side to return to the blimp. After a short ride you will return to Cortex's Iceberg Lab. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.10 Boiler Room Doom ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grab Cortex and toss him into the contraption on the left side to get him stuck inside a pipe, then roll him into the pipe on the right side. This will activate the bridge so that you may continue. Roll Cortex into the next room and place him on the toilet. Press the red button next to the toilet to flush Cortex through the pipes and bring up the next set of platforms. Get across to the next path. Be warned that from this point on you have to CAREFULLY roll Cortex along. Avoid the nitro crates, wait for the steam pistons to go in, and never roll him so fast that he flys into the acid below. The next room will have some rats and a blue valve. Spin the rats and spin the valve to complete the network of pipes, then put Cortex in the toilet and flush him. Cross over the pit and put Cortex in the next pipe to get him on his feet again. Throw him over to pull the lever and continue. Squish the bug in the tunnel and get to the moving platforms in the next room. Jump on and cross from one platform to the next to reach the other side. Spin those bugs and continue through the tunnel (wait for the fire to pass). The next room will have a raised bridge and a blue valve. Spin the valve to lower the bridge, then throw Cortex to raise the next bridge. Follow the path to get to yet another bridge with a lever near it. You know what to do. Continue on and get to another large boiler room, this time with purple bats flying about. Spin the bats as you move across the rotating platforms and get to the next room. Throw Cortex into the pipe machine to get him stuck inside again. Roll him into the first open pipe. Now cross the bridge and continue to the next platform to spin the first blue valve. Jump across the platform and spin the next two valves to move some pipes, then ride the next moving platforms to reach a blue valve out next to the pipes. Return to the toilet and flush Cortex to activate some platforms that lead to the next area. Get over there and follow the path. Spin the first blue valve and spin the two valves along the top to raise the tubes, then continue on to the next platforms. Spin the next valve and ride up the next platform, then spin those next two valves. Ride up yet ANOTHER platform and spin the valves at the top to finish with them. Get to the platforms at the end and jump down to flush Cortex down the toilet. Follow the long line of platforms to the next area and push Cortex into the pipe. Use him to pull the lever and lift the bridge to proceed to the next boss. Boss: Dingodile ================ Here there are five radioactive symbols spread out around the arena. The goal is to get Dingodile to shoot one of them with his gun in order to reveal a button, then you must body slam the button to rain down on Dingodile. Spin him as it rains to hurt him. His first attack is a simple bunch of fireballs. Run around to avoid them and line yourself up with a radiation symbol to get the first hit. The next attacks are low and high streams of fire. Jump over the low ones and duck under the high ones to avoid them, then stand in front of a radiation symbol as he charges to get another hit. The third attack is a low stream that follows you. Avoid it by jumping and running left and right, then avoid the fire shots that follow. Use another radiation symbol for the third hit. The fourth attack will also be the toughest. He will alternate his high and low streams, so the best thing to do is run away and duck or jump just as the stream gets to you. Pay attention to the length of time he holds each stream. I found it easiest to wait for a high stream and slide under it. Avoid the fire shots after that, and then the fire bombs that he throws out. Hit him one more time to finish him off and move on. Extra reader tip: Just for the record there is another way to dodge Dingo Dile's 4th attack with the alternating up and down. You can just crouch and the fire will always go over you. Also for his 2nd and 3rd low attack you can also just stand on one of the tiles that sticks up like a gravestone. Grab the mask from the back of the room and go into the tunnel ahead. The steam elevator at the end will carry you back to Academy of Evil. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.11 Classroom Chaos ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proceed down the hallway and do the usual fruit collecting. Jump on the plungers to blow the nitros and lower a bookshelf that you can use to cross over the acid. Continue along until you get to the tunnel with the mutant kid at the end. This is just like crossing the river at Totem Hokum. Use the bookshelves to hide when the kid uses his flashlight, then run to the next one to reach the end. Spin the plunger to blow him up. Cross over the acid pits (don't wait on the platforms because they sink in) and get to the room with no floor. Jump across the platforms quickly before they fall. Get past the next mutant kid by ducking behind the glass cases, then run to the courtyard. Spin the dogs and grab whatever you like, then move on. Proceed through the usual obstacles to get to a third mutant kid. Defeat him the same way you defeated the last two guys. Run through the remainder of the path to get to a large acid pit. This one much like the giant drill in Cavern Catastrophe. Just run to the right and remember these tips: - Always hit the switch "!" crates to reveal other important platforms. - Spin the bookshelves to knock them down. - Stay to the far left side to avoid the nitros after the crumbling walkway. Get through the next hallway and to the room with no floor. Hop on the platforms on the right to blow the plunger, then return to the left side and get to the door. Blow the next plunger to clear the nitros in the hallway. Now Cortex will come in and take over. Run into the room and grab the ammo, then proceed down the hallway. In this area Cortex will be chased by bugs, forcing you to face obstacles as you run away. My suggestion is to keep firing ahead to blow the nitro crates and any other obstacles that might hold you up. Shoot the rats and frogs in the next room and grab the ammo to proceed. Shoot the machine on the left to lower a plate, then jump on it. Shoot the machine across from the acid pit to pull the plate across and continue. Run along and shoot everything (crates and robots), and shoot the bells to spin the big sweeper robots. Cross the pits by shooting the machines, much like before. Keep going and shoot everything. Jump on the platform and head through the next hall to get to another frog and rat room. This time they jump slightly faster, but it still shouldn't be a problem. Fill up on ammo and take them out. Proceed through another bug chase exactly as you did last time. Remember to pick up those ammo crates whenever you see them. Next is yet another frog and rat room, then another hall with those big robots. Ring the bells and collect everything to get that ninth power crystal and reach Nina's room. Next up is Rooftop Rampage. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.12 Rooftop Rampage ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nina plays a lot like Crash, except she also has a stretchy arm thing going on. Proceed along the rooftops to begin, and naturally you'll want to collect all crates, avoid the nitro crates, and spin any bad guys along the way. Jump and press Circle when you see the green target appear on the gargoyles so you can reel across. Do the same thing with the hooks on the walls, except after you jump you must immediately press Circle to keep reeling up he walls. So, continue skipping along and jumping from rooftop to rooftop. Spin the weathervane to awaken the gargoyle and continue. A few of those robot bugs may appear, but they're easy enough to destroy. Keep going, use the arrow crate to get a life above, then reel across to where the gem is. Be careful when you get to the chimneys because they fall almost immediately after you step on them. The hallway should be a breeze. Simply spin them all to death and continue. Reel to the bell and use the arm to move it out of the way. Reel up the next wall and climb up, all the while spinning those robot bugs. Hit the switch "!" crate ahead and spin the plunger to clear the nitros, then jump across the chimneys and reel to the rooftop. Jump a few more gaps to get to the next hallway. Run through and spin attack all of them to easily continue. Just proceed along up to the top of the next reel walls and across the gaps. It's all old stuff by now. Just remember to shoot all bugs and hit all switch "!" crates. Eventually you'll another same ol' hallway with a save point inside, then you'll exit out onto another rooftop. Except now you'll be in one of those chase situations. - Spin the switch "!" crates or any plungers along the way to clear the path. - Stay in the middle to easily maneuver. - DO NOT get held up by anything. That bus catches up quickly. - When you blow up the TNT on the left, stay to the right. As soon as you see the camera angle turn get ready to reel onto the gargoyle on the left. Grab it to get back onto the rooftops. Reel across and spin any bugs to get to another hallway and eventually see Cortex again. Run down the last hall to return to Academy of Evil. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.13 Twinsanity Island ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part 1 ======= Welcome to the 10th Dimension! You'll find that it's a lot like Crash's dimension with some evil and insanity mixed in. Head through the Psychotron and follow Cortex to the other side. Jump on the platform and get through the tunnel at the top of the mountain to get to Rockslide Rumble. Part 2 ======= Spin the drill-head bugs and make your way up the cave. Once you get to the top the game will save automatically, and you'll be on the surface. Head to the right (following the long trail of fruit) and find Cortex with Nina and evil Crash. Follow Cortex again and spin the bugs to go through the path and get to Bandicoot Pursuit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.14 Rock-Slide Rumble ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a dark duplicate of Slip Slide Icecapades, so I'll just give you those tips and a few extras that only apply here. - Do not worry about catching evil Crash. He'll stay ahead the entire time. - The lightsaber bugs WILL hurt you, so jump or swerve to avoid them. - Pay attention and watch for nitro crates. - Stay in the center to catch all grinds and jumps. - Let evil Crash get ahead to blow up nitros. - Do not jump over nitros, go around them. At the end of the slide you'll go to Twinsanity Island part 2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.15 Bandicoot Pursuit ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll get here from Twinsanity Island. It plays very much like the beginning of Totem Hokum, so many of the same tips apply. - Stay ahead of Cortex at all times. - Stay on the blue buttons to hold the platforms up. - Spin all plungers quickly. - Spin on the green switches to bring out platforms for Cortex. - Sometimes you'll have to spin a green switch once for Cortex to get onto a platform, then again for him to get past the other side. - Wait for Cortex to step on blue buttons before going past the blades. - Spin those fire-breathing creatures from the side. - Spin both blue orbs to get rid of the blue force field. - At the third part of the chase, spin all the switch "!" crates in the row EXCEPT for the last one. That will allow Cortex to avoid the nitro crates. - Do not move the cannons when you get to them. Simply use them to blow up the obstacle in Cortex's path. After the chase you'll be back on a beach. Run to the end and talk to Cortex. After talking to him you can either enter Victor and Moritz's fortress, or you can use the teleporter on the right side of the entrance to return to Cortex's lab (which is only useful if you wish to replay Rock-Slide Rumble). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.16 Ant Agony ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Put the sphere in the generator to open the door, then go in and spin all bugs. Jump quickly across purple platforms because they disappear. Spin the next bug and roll the sphere onto the button to activate more purple platforms. Hop across and kill that bug, then roll the sphere on the top-left platform into the generator near the door. Pop all three orbs, then spin the drill bugs and pop the next three orbs. Proceed through each shield as they disappear. Get to the lava room and spin that fire bug quickly to move on. The next room will be a long machinery room. Simply jump along and get to the top path, and spin all bugs of course. Proceed through the room and spin that flying bug, then get to the part with many blinking platforms. Jump across by remembering the pattern (red, green, blue, red) and get to the end. Jump onto the path near the wall and kill the bugs on the platform, then step on the nearby button. Cross over the purple platforms and spin the sphere on the right to get it to the generator near the door. Go through to proceed. Avoid the lasers and hop across more purple platforms, then cross the multi- colored platforms just as you did with the last ones. That laser at the end shouldn't be tough to avoid. This next room is the same ol' stuff. Spin all bugs, avoid all lasers, jump across all gaps. Big whoop. Get to the purple platforms and cross by waiting for the first one to come in from the right, then jump on the next two as they appear on the left. Use the myriad of platforms to get to all the orbs and return to the now gone force field. Run forward and avoid those sphere-tossin' bugs, then spin them. Get past the lasers by moving in the same direction they move, then a kill a bunch more of those bugs to open the button. Hit the button to reveal the purple platforms and get across. The next hall will have more of those colored platforms, but now they are out of order. Simply look at them and remember the pattern (red, green, blue, red) to jump across. Jump quickly to reach that last green platform before the purple one disappears. Step in the button and quickly jump across before the purple platforms return to the right, then kill the bomb bug ahead. Next to that you'll find three purple platforms and a laser. Wait for the laser to head in your direction and quickly jump onto the first and second purple platforms. If you made it continue on to the path. Do the same thing again and then get by those rotating lasers. Jump up along the next set of platforms to break the orbs and lower the next shield. When you get to the next laser platforms, be careful. Look at the way they rotate and then time your jumps to land on the next one just as the laser passes. Step on the button to bring out colored platforms and get across to even more colored platforms. It may seem tough, but it is the exact same pattern that they've always had (red, green, blue, yellow). Just stand on solid ground and look out to plan your route, then do it! Easy cheese, baby! Get to the end and spin the bug, and remember to grab every crate. Proceed to the next room and start by spinning the two bugs in the middle, then hit the plunger. Now go to the left side and use the bomb to blow up the nitro crates, then roll the sphere to the top and use the slide (Circle) to pop it up onto the platform. Put it in the first generator. Go to the other side and use the slide to get that sphere into the other generator. Go in and watch the rather shameless cross-promotion (still kinda funny), then proceed through the very long hallway ahead. Enter the next room to face your final challenge. Boss: Victor and Moritz ======================== The first part of the battle will be played as Nina. The twins' robot will release bugs, streams of fire (low and high), and it also has a shockwave attack. None of them will be a problem if you stay away. Start by skipping to one of the pairs of pillars that are spread around the area. Jump and press Circle to reel up along the pillars and get to the top. Spin one of the crystals and use the high reel to get to the other pillar and spin that crystal. Repeat this with the other two pairs of pillars to finish Nina's part. Next up is Cortex. The robot will now use his machine gun to fire a burst of bullets, then it will charge its laser and shoot. You can avoid both by moving to the left or right the entire time. Begin by allowing the machine gun to shoot (the ground, not you) then quickly shoot it a few times. You can also get a few shots in right before it fires. Run away quickly and press Circle as you run to slide out of the way of the laser's shockwave. Once the machine gun blows up, turn on the laser. Fire some five to six shots and quickly run away to the left before the laser starts charging. Keep shooting the laser to finish the arms and move on the final phase. Crash returns with the newly restored Mecha Bandicoot! The twins' robot will be surrounded by a shield, and their sole attack will be a lunge with a laser sword. Walk to the left to easily avoid the attack. As you walk around and avoid the laser, look for gaps in the shield. Fire a missile with Square to hit the robot through the gap, then repeat it three times to defeat the evil twins once and for all. Well, you just beat the game! Enjoy the comical ending, and if you haven't gathered all the gems yet, GET TO WORK! =============================================================================== ===== 4.0 GEM LOCATIONS ======================================================= N.Sanity Isle ============= Yellow: Jump onto the grassy rocks in N.Sanity Isle part 3 to find a row of many crates in mid-air. Jump along the wooden crates and hit the TNT to trigger the nitros and blow up the nitros below. Grab the yellow gem from the ground below. Red: Look for the chicken coop in the first part and herd the chickens towards the nitro crates. Continue to do that until they all blow up and you are able get the red gem on top of the rock. Purple: Look for the group of chickens in part 2 of N.Sanity Isle and herd them to the nitro crates nearby. Hit the TNT plunger to blow up the nitros to the left and bring down the metal jumping crates. Use them to get the purple gem above. Green: Jump on the TNT next to the hay in the second part of N.Sanity Isle. It will blow up the various nitros and bring down the metal jumping crate, giving you access to the green gem. Clear: Use the worms to get to the sled near the beach. Jump on the sled and it will carry you to the island; the clear gem is on top of the statue. Blue: Get to the cannon on the beach at the beginning and aim it at each of the statues out on the water. Body slam the button to hit the mouth of each statue and lower them, giving you access to the blue gem over the last statue. Jungle Bungle ============== Yellow: Roll the bomb into the statue at the beginning, then use the haystack and a body slam to get to the top of the statue and reach the yellow gem. Red: Turn right from the spot where you jump on several worms and look for a clearing with several crates. Hop on the TNT crate to blow it up and get the many metal crates bouncing. Get across the crates to reach the red gem at the end. Purple: Turn left from the mouth of the large statue (where the natives are). Follow the trail of fruit in the area to reach the purple gem over a crate on the beach. Green: Jump on the first worm at the bottom of the mountain (the one you have to body slam), and turn right to find the green gem on top of some stacked carved blocks. Clear: Turn left from the mouth of the large statue (where the natives are). Jump on the cannon button to launch out a few cannonballs, then use the cannonballs to blow up the mouths of the statue to the right and the two across the bridge. Finally, take a cannonball over the low point in the log on the left and blow up the last statue to reach the clear gem at the top. Blue: Body slam the first worm and then jump on it to grab the blue gem from the top of the totem pole. Cavern Catastrophe =================== Yellow: After passing the first cavern with the large statue, enter the tunnel and make a left through the skull door. The yellow gem will be in that tunnel. Red: As you escape the drill at the end make sure to hit all of the crystals. The red gem will be on a platform to the left when you get near the top. Purple: Get to the second set of wooden wheels and hold left to get into the last wheel. Continue holding left to get onto two break-away platforms and reach the red gem below. Green: Get to the first cavern with wooden tracks running through it (just past the yellow gem) and take the right branch when you see it. Avoid the nitros and speed up to jump over the acid pit and grab the green gem. Clear: Pass the part where you hit three crystals to make a rock fall (after the elevators), and turn right. Use the metal jumping crates between the platforms to reach the last platform and get the clear gem. Blue: Grab Cortex and take him past the first lever that he has to shoot. Look left and launch him over the gap to a platform with several rats and the clear gem. He'll grab it for you. Totem Hokum ============ Yellow: Get to the village and the area right below the totem pole that Cortex is tied to. Wait for the sun door of the hut nearest to you to open, then begin jumping along each the of the sun doors as they open up. Keep hopping along the roofs to reach the yellow gem at the end. Red: On the left side of the beach you'll see a long line of outline crates and some stones. Line up the stones with the nitros on the island across the water and spin to skip the stones and blow up the nitros. The explosion will trigger the switch crate and give you access to the red gem. Purple: In the second part of the Cortex chase (hive on his head, no bear) look for the long line of nitro crates. Use the plunger to blow them up and then quickly run up to grab the purple gem. Green: In the first part of the Cortex chase (running from bees, no hive) look down when you reach a plunger that blows up several nitro crates. The green gem is on a platform. Clear: In the part where the natives chase you, keep your thumb on the jump button to avoid stuff and grab the clear gem when you see it (after you pass a fallen log). Blue: Get to the village and reach Cortex's totem pole. Run past the totem pole and to the right to reach the wall of wooden stakes and many smaller wooden platforms along it. Jump on the platforms and get to the hut at the end to get the blue gem. Iceberg Lab ============ Yellow: Turn right from the boat ramp and get to the ice bridge at the far right side. Cross onto it and use the wooden crates to reach the yellow gem over the high crate. Red: Turn left from the boat ramp and cross over the first ice bridge to get to an iceberg with many nitro crates, then turn left again and cross another ice bridge. Use the TNT plunger and get the red gem from the crates in the air. Purple: Turn left from the boat ramp and get to the top of the really high iceberg by using the metal jumping crates. Run to the end and jump on the metal crates in mid-air to reach the purple gem at the end. Green: Run to the left side of the lab and past the two large fans to see some metal crates and the green gem below, just above the water. Jump down there to get it. Clear: Turn left from the boat ramp and follow the edge of the iceberg until you reach a lower area with a crate switch "!". Hit the switch to make a bunch of metal crates appear in the area just below that ledge. Jump down and follow the crates to get the clear gem surrounded by nitros. Blue: Turn left from the boat ramp and cross over the first ice bridge to get to an iceberg with many nitro crates. Jump on the jumping crates that are out in mid-air and bounce on the TNTs to blow up the nitros and get the plunger. Use the plunger to lower a jumping crate near the nitro crates and get the blue gem inside. Ice Climb ========== Yellow: After Cortex pulls the second lever (several cameras around there), look to the other end of the metal walkway. The yellow gem will be out on a single floating platform. Throw Cortex onto the platform to get the gem. Red: Get to the first gears when you're dragging Cortex and look for the red gem over some metal scaffolding to the left. Toss him over there to get it. Purple: Turn left after going up the third elevator in the big chamber to easily spot the purple gem over a floating platform. Green: In the chamber with large machinery, keep jumping up until you get to the first metal scaffolding. There will be an Aku Aku crate and jumping crate beneath it. Use that jumping crate to reach the green gem above. Clear: After passing the gear with nitro crates all around it (when you're dragging Cortex), get onto the metal walkway and get past the pipe to see the clear gem on a platform out in the air. Throw Cortex at the switch crate to make the outline crates appear so you can reach the gem. Blue: In the chamber with large machinery, walk along the right side of the bottom area and look towards the water for a small ice flow with the blue gem on it. Very easy to spot. Slip Slide Icecapades ====================== Yellow: Stick to the right side towards the end and ride a purple rail to grab the yellow gem from the end of the grind. Red: After turning into a snowball, look for a pair of purple pipes to appear. Roll over them to get the red gem at the end. Purple: After passing the first grinding pole (several fruits lined up along it) turn left and slide over a raised path. Jump at the end to make it through the purple loop and get the purple gem. Green: Stick to the left side immediately after passing the Moulin Cortex house. Slide along the raised slope and jump into the purple loop at the end to get the green gem. Clear: After passing the Moulin Cortex house, keep going and look for a raised slope to appear on the right. Ride the slope and jump to hit a green switch at the end. Further ahead there will be a raised platform that leads over a gear. Jump the raised ramp to grab the clear gem floating over the gear. Blue: In a tunnel entrance on the right side after passing the chicken house. High Seas Hi-Jinks =================== Yellow: Enter the room with water and the large rotating pistons in the middle. Start by hitting the first plunger on the left, then jump across and hit the first plunger on the right. Return to the pistons and use the jumping crates to reach the third plunger on the right side, and finally jump across to the left to get the yellow gem. Red: In the room with the launching missiles, follow the jumping springs and head towards the door. Turn right onto some platforms and get into the alcove on the right side of the room. Follow the top path to find the red gem over a jumping crate. Purple: Near the beginning of the walrus chase, look for a double flame burst on the right side. The purple gem will be right next to this flame burst, so turn quickly to grab it and continue on. Green: In the room after the swinging rhinos, follow the path until you see the green gem over some jumping platforms next to a wall. Use the crates to get it. Clear: Over a platform in the room with the target sacks. The clear gem is very easy to spot. Blue: Inside the room with the swinging rhinos, turn left to find the blue gem over a jumping crate. Jump across the platforms to reach it. Academy of Evil ================ Yellow: First you must play through the level and defeat Madam Amberly, then use a soccer ball to blow up the nitro crates near the car. Use the floating yellow platform to reach the yellow gem near the academy roof. Red: Run straight past the fountain and to the left to find a small tunnel through the building. Enter inside and hit the plunger to blow up one group of nitro crates, then use the soccer ball to blow up the nitro crates in the corner. This will fill the outline crates over the jumping crates, giving you access to the red gem above. Purple: Run straight past the fountain and to the left to find a column of nitro crates and a switch crate "!" near a door. Use a soccer ball to blow those crates, then head to the end of the area with another soccer ball. Use this ball to blow the nitro crates to the right and reach the purple gem at the top of all those metal crates. Green: Run straight past the fountain and to the left to find a large staircase that leads up to the third floor. Jump into the second floor balcony to get the green gem. Clear: Run straight past the car and look left to find a small staircase. Climb up to find the clear gem on the second floor balcony. Blue: Use a soccer ball to blow up the nitro crates near the car, then jump on top of the car to find the blue gem over a jumping crate. Boiler Room Doom ================= Yellow: In the room near the end with the many valves, proceed through and spin every valve to get to the top. Jump to the end and use the moving platforms to get the yellow gem. Red: In the room with the two raised bridges, get to the end and look to the right. Throw Cortex at the red gem on the pipe to pick it up. Purple: After you pass the second boiler room, get to the first toilet. Next to the toilet is a small niche in the platform. Jump down to get the purple gem. Green: Proceed to the room with the second toilet and look in a small niche to the right to find the green gem. Clear: Look to the right of the beginning to see a switch "!" crate. Spin and throw Cortex to hit it and activate the outline crates under the bridge you're standing on. Jump down to get the clear gem. Blue: Get to the room after you pass the very first bug in the level (rotating platforms). Cross to the other side and throw Cortex at the far platform to get the blue gem. Classroom Chaos ================ Yellow: As Cortex, in the hallway with the ninth power crystal (just before reaching Nina's room) shoot the nitro to grab the yellow gem. Red: As Cortex, after passing the long hall full of robots, look for a green dead-end with a platform. Jump around the platform and get the red gem. Purple: After passing the room with the rats as Cortex, shoot the machine to lower a plate onto the acid pit. Jump on and shoot the next machine to grab the purple gem. Green: Run up the tower to escape the acid pit. The green gem can be found at the top of the tower. Clear: Get past the second mutant kid by ducking behind the glass cases, then run to the courtyard. Spin the dogs and the switch "!" crate to reveal the outline crates and grab the clear gem above. Blue: Cross over the acid pits (don't wait on the platforms because they sink in) and get to the room with no floor. Jump across the platforms quickly before they fall and grab the blue gem on the left. Rooftop Rampage ================ Yellow: After the bus chase, spin one of the two bugs on the rooftop into the rows of stacked TNTs and nitros in the corner. Spin the switch "!" crate to fill in the crates on the next rooftop and reach the yellow gem. Red: Reel the gargoyle immediately after the bus chase to get red gem. Purple: Over the middle chimney of one of the chimney sections. The purple gem is very easy to see. Green: On a rooftop after passing through the second hallway. The green gem is hard to miss. Clear: You'll automatically get the clear gem as you reel up the second wall. Blue: Under a gargoyle early in the level. You can't miss the blue gem. Twinsanity Island ================== Yellow: Head to the left side of the beach (near the waterfall flowing from the statues) and look for the jumping metal crate near the cliff. Jump up to find a cannon. Aim the cannon at each of the switch "!" crates out in the air and blow them up, then blow the nitro crates to clear the way to the yellow gem. Red: Head to the left side of the beach (near the waterfall flowing from the statues) and look for the platforms out over the water. Roll the energy sphere out onto the middle platform by bumping it on the side, then roll it to the nitros to blow them up and get the red gem. Alternatively, you can just jump around the side and grab it. You'll lose a life, but it's the easiest way to go. Purple: Head to the left side of the beach (near the waterfall flowing from the statues) and look for the jumping metal crate near the cliff. Jump up to the cliff and head towards the mountain. At the end of the path you'll find the purple gem. Green: Head to the left side of the beach (near the waterfall flowing from the statues) and look for the energy sphere and some metal crates over the water. Roll the energy sphere so that it hits the first crates and bounces into the nitro crates. You can then easily pick up the green gem. Clear: Run out to the jetty near the totem statues and get on top of the first platform. Hit the switch "!" crate nearby then roll the sphere onto the next platform. Wait for the rotating pipes to be clear of any obstacles AND for the platform at the end to approach, then quickly roll the sphere onto the next platform. Keep rolling as it moves to keep the sphere on it, then ride up the moving platform. Line yourself up with the shield generator at the end and wait for the other end of the platform to rise up, then spin the sphere out onto the platform. If you did it right the bomb will hopefully land in the shield generator, or you can jump over there and do it yourself. Once you get all that, the clear gem will be yours. Blue: Run through the cliffs (towards evil Crash's house) and turn left to get that side of the beach. Jump up to the cliff to find a sphere. Roll that sphere up the platform and across the bridge when the blocks are set. Get the sphere into the shield generator to reach the blue gem. Rock-Slide Rumble ================== Yellow: As you're sliding along you'll see a tunnel blocked by a wall of nitros. Slide right and over the nitros to get over the nitros and grab the yellow gem. Red: After passing the long grind through the middle, watch the right side. Wait for the first TNT tunnel to appear and jump over the TNTs to get inside. Slide to the end to get the red gem. Purple: After passing a tunnel blocked by TNTs, a path will appear on the right. If you pay attention there are two paths on the right. Grind the lower path and grab the purple gem from the end. Green: Ride into the first large metal machine to get the green gem. Clear: After grinding and getting the purple gem, stick to the right and jump over the TNTs to get into the tunnel. Grab the clear gem inside. Blue: When you approach the first canyon in the path with steam rising out of it, stick to the left side of the steam. Ride the wall to get the blue gem at the end. Bandicoot Pursuit ================== Yellow: Go to the left side of that large building on the beach and jump up to hit the switch "!" crate. Run back to the large cave entrance to the beach and look on the right side (near the water) to find a jumping crate and the yellow gem. Red: Pop the switch "!" crate in between the many nitro crates on the beach to get the crates in the pond to appear. Jump on them to reach the sphere on the platform over the pond. Roll that sphere to the nitros to reach the red gem above. Purple: Immediately after you finish the Cortex chase, run to the right. Look behind a rock near the water to find the purple gem. Green: Get to the end of the first part of the chase and look down. The green gem is on a low ledge near that machine. Clear: Get to the rocks by the beach and hit the switch "!" crate at the bottom. Now jump up and hit that first switch out over the water and roll the sphere onto the first platform. Hit that switch again to roll the sphere onto the next platform. Spin the second switch to extend the platform to the shield generator and put the sphere inside. With the shield down you can now get the clear gem. Blue: In the third part of the chase, after passing the many switch "!" crates, look down for a platform to appear in the water. Jump down in that direction to find the blue gem. Ant Agony ========== Yellow: After destroying several fire bugs and opening a shield, look to the right. The yellow gem will be out on a platform next to the big machine. Use a bomb from the top of the path and spin it into the switch "!" crate under the gem to reach it. Red: In the second machinery room of the level, proceed to the beginning of the top path and face the entrance. Jump onto the large machine on your right to find the red gem between some pillars. Purple: When you get to the colored platforms that only appear when you step on a button, get past them. Immediately look to your left to see some metal crates that lead up to the top of the machine. Get up there to grab the purple gem. Green: In the first room with many purple platforms, get to the other side and jump to the machine on the right. Follow the platforms to get to the top of the machine and grab the green gem. Clear: When you get to the first room where the purple platforms leave after stepping on the button, look left. Another purple platform appears right next to some platforms that lead to the top of the entrance. Jump on them to reach the clear gem at the top. Blue: In the second machinery room of the level, proceed to the part with the different colored platforms. Jump along and get to the right side to find the blue gem. =============================================================================== ===== 5.0 BACKTRACKING GUIDE ================================================== WARNING: You cannot return to any previous levels after entering the Psychotron and going to Twinsanity Island.
