Foreword --------------------------- _________________________________________________________________/|_________ /_________________________________________________________________||_________| \| Greetings and welcome to my Seven Samurai 20XX FAQ, my dear earthlings. I am a big fan of Kurosawa and his masterpieces. SO I bought this game at its release, despite knowing that PSM and EGM gave it a LOW, LOW, LOW score. After playing it and completing it, I SAY F*** YOU, EGM/PSM! HA! This game deserves AT LEAST a 6 and I'm being strict here. So if you have anything you want to say, even negatively, please feel free to do so. My contacts: AIM: hp9999mp99 email: hockeyfox(at)ameritech(dot)com Also, I, myself, am deaf in both ears. When I found out that most cut- scenes did not include subtitles, I was beyond pissed. Nevertheless, I started to make this FAQ. However, the privilege of seeing my comments about the story will not be utilized. I truly enjoy adding my remarks about the dialogue, the story, and the characters (as I did in my previous FAQs), but please endure this bland FAQ instead. By the way, if anyone is considering making a 'Game Script' FAQ, please by all means do it. I would start to read it up in a heartbeat. Thank you. _________|\_________________________________________________________________ |_________||_________________________________________________________________\ |/ --------------------------- II. The Story of 'Shichinin no Samurai', the Movie ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 'Shichinin no Samurai', Seven Samurai in Japanese, is set in the 16th century, where the country of Japan is in political chaos. One day, a ronin (masterless samurai) Kanbei is asked by a farmer to help them guard their village from bandits in exchange only for some food. Kanbei accepts, but he knows he need more samurai to aid hm. But who would risk their life for some food and farmers? Fortuantely, he does find 6 other samurai, thus making 'Seven Samurai'. When the samurai arrive at the village of the farmers, they start planning for the upcoming battles with the bandits. A series of skirmishes occur, leading up to the world-famous decisive battle. Kurosawa showed every character in compassionate detail without taking it too long. He also masterfully made it feel swift. Never you will see a shot where nothing is moving. The movie is about moving, and everything is constantly moving. It is a powerful movie, indeed. In 2003, Kurosawa's son have granted Sammy Studios the right to use 'Seven Samurai' in a game. So here we are! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ c. Nitoh-Ryu Mode ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NI (ni) --- Two TOH (tou) --- Sword RYU (ryuu) --- Style Literal Translation --- Two Sword Style Abstract Translation --- Double-Bladed Technique In Seven Samurai 20XX, Natoe, the protagonist, has the ability to use his second sword into a barrage of attacks. This is the single most powerful skill in the entire game, for it can easily fetch you massive number of combos without getting hurt. When you start the mode (L1 + R1 Triggers), the timer will start. Once the timer goes to zero, the mode will stop and Natoe will put his second katana back in its socket. However, the meter for Nitoh-Ryu mode will gradually recover when you are not using it. When the recovery has reached 100%, you may use it again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ d. Parrying ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Despite the fact that this game is too easy, parrying itself is a very useful tactic if you get stuck with a boss because he's too powerful or you are low in HP. While you're attacking, when you see something or somebody cocking for an attack, you press Triangle. Natoe will glow a bit, and if timed correctly, Natoe will block and counter with an attack of his own (only if you press Square thereafter). Also, the Nitoh-Ryu mode will receive a time increase if it happened during that mode. w00t! I found it the most useful in the Epsilon fight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ e. Just Step / Just Attack / Just Guard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ These skills are very valuable for your survival in the game, especially late in the game (notably Chapter 9). They are used to avoid potientially damaging attacks of foes and revert it into your benefit. Just Step is a step that is executed just as a foe's attack is coming. Natoe will just step away, away from harm. Just Attack is more like luck than skill. It happens when your sword clangs with the other opponent's, or rather, you start to swing your sword as the foe starts to attack you, but you end up hitting him first. Just Guard is the most useful 'Just' move of all. When you see a foe gearing up for an attack, press Triangel to Guard. If timed correctly, Natoe will deflect the attack with a shimemring blue sphere. If this happens, your Ryu gauge will be re-filled (if it is charging up) or your Ryu timer will be re- filled to 1:45 (if you ARE using it that time). This move makes large combos possible, as a hit from foes will re-start the combo. All in all, I prefer using the Guard only and using Steps, not Just Steps to evade attacks before they even start because Just Steps would put you AWAY from battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ f. Mission End - Weak Point Coverage Screen ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After every mission's end, you will view the statistics of the level, including the rankings of certain stats. After that, you will have a look at your HP/GP/NT coverage screen. If one of these areas is 'weak' by the game's standards, you will be endowed with a boost. How to get the boost? Just make sure your HP/GP/NT is low when you FINISH the level. So, if you're fighting a boss that ends a level (like Epsilon in Chapter 6), beat him until he has a silver of HP left and abuse your NT/GP until it's low and let the boss hack you down to LOW HP and kill him/her. That way, when you end the level, your stats will be asking for a HIGH boost. Repeat it over and over again to get high numbers. SUMMARY: End the level with low health to get stronger. Ironic... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ g. Saving ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The ONLY way to save is to beat a chapter. And that's it. No mid-chapter saving, sorry! Each chapter is relatively short so don't worry. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ h. Dying ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is where the 'cheapness' factor kicks in. If you ever dies in a battle, you will be given an option to Continue or to Quit. If you choose to continue, you will be placed in the previous point where the game loaded. _________|\_________________________________________________________________ |_________||_________________________________________________________________\ |/ --------------------------- III. Walkthrough --------------------------- _________________________________________________________________/|_________ /_________________________________________________________________||_________| \| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OVERTURE - DECADENT MOON ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Burrante - The Square --------------------- You witness innocent people fleeing the burning city. This is the 'town' of Seven Samurai, the movie. You are Natoe the samurai. let's cut the melodrama and kill some evil do-ers! To attack, press SQUARE when you're by an enemy. To Step/Side-Step, press X. This is helpful when you're in a tight situation and in a need for a quick move. TRIANGLE is Guard, and it will only work on the enemy's first attack. Just come up to the helpless bots and 'Square' their asses off. Use this chance to get to know the controls and attacks and go left. When you've defeated the enemies, enter the door marked by a green arrow. ==================== Boss: Zex ==================== A Big hunk of a guy, but he's too dumb to kill you. Just tap Square as fast as you can when you're near him. He will probably parry the attacks, but he will have to try to attack you, right? When that happens, his guard is gone. Attack him with all of your might. Alternatively, if you want to be fancy about it, I recommend using a move: jump (press X while not moving) toward the boss and slash your sowrd at him mid-air. It'll do a lot of damage against him. Nitoh-Ryu mode is great here too (L1+R1). Also, dashing around him is a good idea. Dash around and around him until he appears to attack and misses. he will be all WIDE OPEN for you. Kick his Humanoid ass! :) After the battle, he will jump up and vanish. Only then you will realize he is a 'Humanoid'. You also meet some weirdos, named Kambei (yes, the guy from the actual movie! w00t!) and Hinata. Now you will have to fight some more baddies (not unlimited, fortunately) to open the gate to the next area. Again, this is a good time to practice on your skills and try to get your combo score up (I got to 40 here!). Try to do various directions with your attack to watch some fancy moves. If you're low in health, just kill some enemies, some of them will leave a Recovery Item (the name... how original). There are different sizes (Small, medium, and large, just like McDonald's! yummy) so how much you heal depends. Burrante - Side of the Fence ---------------------------- Same thing as the previous battle. Just try to keep your combo up so you can remain in the offensive position (not in the bed! pervert). Wiggle your analog stick to find somre more moves. Natoe will also zig-zag around the enemies with your guide of the analog stick. Burrante - Passage in the Fence ------------------------------- Bah. After a 'haunting' cutscene (like I was scared) you get to face more bots. Time for another massacre. You know what to do. However, there is a brownish smoke coming at your way, but have no fear, it won't hurt you, but you can't get past it. Al, a youngster, will save you in a cutscene. After some blah-blah mumbo- jumbo, you have yourself yet another battle. Burrante - Inside the Exhaust Duct ---------------------------------- Same old, but I recommend you to fight in the tunnel since it is easier to mow the enemies down there. Purple Humanoids will appear, which takes more hits to die. It is a good idea to utilize the L1+R1 Nitoh-Ryu Mode here. Burrante - Front of the Gate ---------------------------- Here's a damsel in distress! No worries! Here's.... Na....toe! to the Rescue! (She's cute, too *wink*) ==================== Boss: Gigantes ==================== No real strategy is required here, but if you do have one, please do e-mail me yours. My strategy: just over-power him with Nitoe-Ryu. Press L1+R1 and don't stop attacking him until he falls. He might hit and knock you down, but don't STOP! His HP goes down relatively quickly. The princess' yours! Chapter End! Don't forget to save! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 1 - TO THE SILVER BRIDGE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Slum - Underground Passage -------------------------- Walk forth to the square room and destroy all of the monsters as usual, nothing new. Go down to the bridge for an AWESOME fight! On the bridge, several NEW and UNIQUE enemies will come for you. One of them is a HUGE mecha, about the size of Zex. Turn on your Niton-Ryu and hack away to see an awesome, maddening combo ensue! The Ryu combo should take down the main enemy and most of the others. I reached a 92-hit combo here with the Ryu. Just don't stop attacking the main enemies (the larger ones). Unfortunately, this is not the last of this area. After some small druid bots, there are some Blue Giants and small druids in a room after the bridge. Turn on your Niton-Ryu once again and target your attacks primarily at the larger breed of the enemy here. You know what to do with the rest. Slum - East Ward ---------------- Watch a pretty cool scene including Kambei raiding a house for some reason. If you have seen the movie, you would know that it SCREAMS the same scene when Kambei shaved his head and went into a house to save a girl inside. Then Kambei and you shall go to battle. Whee. A new enemy will appear here, and it's a blue/white wolf head. They're nothing special, I tihnk they're just an upgraded version of the weakest enemy. They just need more attacks to be conquered. Save your Niton-Ryu until when the big mechas (two of them) comes. They are pretty hard to beat with a ton of wolves around you, so it might be a good idea to fight away from the mechas to clear the area of the wolves so you can have an easier time fighting the machines. Or you can just over-power them with Niton-Ryu, even with the others around. You will probably get damaged quite a lot, but the wolves yield a lot of Recovery Items so you should be alright. Slum - West Ward ---------------- Another cutscene. Yawn. Defeat the Wolves and bots here by using Nitoh-Ryu in the square area. The Wolves ehre seem to be more aggressive than before, I dunno. maybe I'm just high. Another cutscene will happen. The next two areas has unlimited enemies, so you could ignore them and go onto the next area (follow the green arrow), but I think it is a good idea if you would kill some of the enemies for the kills' sake (in the final rating of the chapter). Slum - Residental Area ---------------------- This area has three parts/rooms, each with enemies. Just follow the path and defeat the enemies one room by one room. The first room has a moderate amount of bots, so it's pretty easy. The second room has a moderate amount of wolves and bots. The third and the final room also has bots and wolves, but they come in a larger number. They shouldn't be any problem for your Nitoh- Ryu attacks so abuse it. :) Slum - North Ward ----------------- Just enter the door. Slum - Connecting Bridge Square ------------------------------- Time for another boss battle! ==================== Boss: White Fox ==================== This is like a duel of Nitoh-Ryus because both of you guys can attack fast. As usual, defeat him with Nitoh-Ryu. He has the ability to get invisible, but as long you keep close to him, your aim shouldn't miss. His attacks are swift and hard, but I don't find parrying helpful here. Just out-live him. Slum - Connecting Bridge ------------------------ Finally, the Silver Bridge! Enemies here are unlimited so don't stay and dweel on them too long. Just kill enemies as you go forward. If you miss some enemies, just leave them behind. Watch the cutscene where Kambei and Natoe 'rejoices'. End Chapter 1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 2 - ART OF JUNK LIFE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Scrapyard - Restaurant ---------------------- Kambei decides that you guys need FIVE more samurai to defend the village. Time to go out and look for them! Talk to people here with the O button if you want. Get out of here to the town. Scrapyard - Connecting Bridge Square ------------------------------------ Interact with people with a green arrow above them only. Those without the privilege of a mystic green arrow are not able to talk to you because Sammy Studios are too damn lazy to make them interact-able. One of the bums here will make a comment about some factory. That's actually the place you are heading to now. Learn some more things and go west. Scrapyard - Residental Area --------------------------- Nothing going on here either. Go left, up the white stairs to... Scrapyard - Central Overpass ---------------------------- All of the sudden, you get a Boss Battle! ==================== Boss: Takijee ==================== Bah. I found 'Step' is fairly effective against him (Press X while attacking). Charge up your Nitoh-Ryu and start to destroy him. When he prepares/cocks himself for an attack, press X to step past him. Usually he will miss, allowing for more time for you to attack. I would say two Nitoh- Ryus will do him in. Takijee will beg for forgiveness (he should do hari-kiri instead). Go on. Scrapyard - Factory Site ------------------------ Ignore the enemies and enter the factory. Scrapyard - Factory Block #1 ---------------------------- You will meet a samurai and have an argument with him. Just as you two are heating up, the rest of your gang shows up. Ugh. Continue north after the scene to find action. There are a LOT of bots (not the same as the ones you faced in Chapter 1) here so prepare for a lengthy battle here, ableit a bit easy. Go up the stairs to find the next passage. Scrapyard - Blast Furance ------------------------- Only one way to go. Scrapyard - Factory Block #2 ---------------------------- Wolves and bots returns here. Kill the first wave to open the doors on the conveyor belt. Ride the belt to the second room, where the second wave comes in. This one is pretty small, so you should have no problem with your Nitoh- Ryu. Continue through the newly-opened door to find a path to the next room. Blast Furance ------------- Back here, eh... Ninjas, a new enemy, will make their introduction here. They are few here, but they can be pretty annoying if they has you surrounded. Isolate yourself from the pack and cut them down one-by-one with Nitoh-Ryu until you're confident you can go into the melee without any serious risk. With all of the Ninjas down, it's a breeze. Good luck. Scrapyard - Control Tower Outer Wall Passage -------------------------------------------- Nothing here notable. Just find the door on the other end of the passage. You will find a... DUDE in distress! LOL. Anyway... ==================== Boss: Necryl ==================== This guy offers you some challenge, finally. Necryl leaves mines that looks like watermelons. Just don't go near them, especially when they're black or they will explode, injuring you. Turn on your Ryu and wait until he finishes an missed attack (lure him into attacking) and counter with your swords. That way, he won't be able to hurt you for a while. Back away when your Ryu gauge is gone, and let it recover. Repeat. You know. Watch a humorous episode afterwards. Chapter End. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 3 - VANISHING LOVE PETALS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Center Street - Elevator Hall ----------------------------- You may talk to some people here, including Kambei who will tell you that we are looking for 'Rojie'. Guess he's the next samurai... Go east to Chinatown. Chinatown - Upper Area Ward --------------------------- Watch the cutscene and move on to find a few humans ready for you. Kill all of them with your Ryu skill. Go downstairs... Chinatown - Lower Area Ward --------------------------- A lot of interaction can be done here, so ask people around to learn about Kowloon Street. Follow the path until you find a green arrow. Follow it to... Chinatown - Fresh Produce Market -------------------------------- Kill the baddies (only 5 of them) and follow the arrow to the west. You will arrive at a bar and witness a hilarious table dance sequence. After the cutscene, re-trace your steps down the ramp and follow the new green arrow to... Center Street - Lower Area Ward ------------------------------- Go across the bridge and take the left fork to a staircase, where a cutscene will occur... Go northeast, toward the alley where the shady guy went into. It's marked with a Recovery Item on the ground, by the way. Go in that alley to find Jolie. Go downstairs (with the green arrow) to the Casino. Center Street - Rotary ---------------------- Walk further downwards and you will be ambushed by a masked man... time for a battle! ==================== Boss: Jaguar Baller ==================== He leaves off oil leaks that will burst into flames, so don't go close to those black holes. Just attack him 3 times and retreat and attack again, and so on, because he moves too fast for you to even get to the 5-hit combo. He's isn't hard as long you don't carelessly step onto the flames. Don't chase him all over the arena, just walk around and he should come to you, and attack away! After the victory, go north. Rojie's Gambling Joint ---------------------- Go straight north, ignoring the forks to the left and right. Enter Rojie's Bar and look to the right for a tiny entrance to the back. It leads to Rojie's Hideout. Rojie's Hide-Out ---------------- Walk the path and you will find some thugs (three of them) getting angry at the sight of you. Nitoh-Ryu them off. Continue going in the same direction to find 7 more thugs. You know what to do, right? Go through the northern passage to find a huge room and an enormous amount of the same thugs. This is a good chance to get 100+ hit combo right here. Fighting on the staircase will help you out, the new thugs will come through the staircase and you would be already there to kill them. Go to the only remaining path. You will at last meet Rojie, but this idiot would have already ran away before you could really talk to him. Oh well. Let's go back to the Gambling Joint. Rojie's Gambling Joint ---------------------- Get out of the Bar, and go all of the way south to the gate where you fought Jaguar. Center Street - Rotary ---------------------- Watch the cutscene after leaving this place. Then you will be transported by the game to the Kowloon Street, home of Kyric. Kowloon Street -------------- There's only one path to follow so you can't really get lost... However, there are three parts in this area that has Chinese Long-hairballs guys. The first two parts has a FEW of them, but the third one has considerably more. They are no match for your Nitoh-Ryu swords, once again. Kowloon Street - The Square --------------------------- The bloody-thristy wolves makes a return here. After defeating them, go on the lone path (ignroe the remaining Wolves beyond) to find the entrance to Kyric's house. Kyric's Hide-Out ---------------- Walk into the main chamber to find some Chinese warriors hearlding for you. There are some more of them in the hallway to the right, so don't forget them, too. They need your love, too. At the end of that hallway lies a Rocovery Item. GO back to the mina chamber and find the newly-opened door to the left. Of course, continue your massacre there. At the end of THAT hallway, is a door to... a boss! ==================== Boss: Jiro ==================== Jiro's best attacks are long-range, so if you take away his long-range advantage, you've got the battle covered. Make your first priority going in close to him. Then cast Nitoh-Ryu and melee on him. Keep going even if the timer for Nitoh-Ryu goes out. He won't take long before he falls. Follow the staircase up and enter the door with an arrow. Watch the hot mama... but Kyric won't let you do that for long... He'll transform into a giant... ==================== Boss: Kyric ==================== Don't let the abscene of a HP bar fool you. He might not have a HP bar visible, he still can be taken down. He has attacks far (shockwaves) and near (punch), so he can be lethal. Either way, turn your Nitoh-Ryu on and rain your attacks on him. If you get knocked back, keep going. When the timer for Nitoh-Ryu runs out, retreat. Wait for it to re-fill and strike again. It took me two Nitoh-Ryus before I took him down. Watch the cutscene of you and the woman in black fleeing, and BAM! The Casino has gone KA-BOOM! Center Street - Rotary ---------------------- Go to the direction OPPOSITE of the Casino. Center Street - Lower Area Ward ------------------------------- Go right and follow the alley to the street. Cross the street and head east, toward the bridge to Fresh Produce Market. Chinatown - Fresh Produce Market -------------------------------- Go right to ignite a conversation with a weird disco dancer, Pyro. If you talk to him TWICE afterwards, you will have a chance to battle him. ==================== Boss: Pyro ==================== This guy is too easy. Start off with Nitoh-Ryu, as always. Keep hitting him and he will fall back in recoil. He will not have a chance to strike you UNTIL your Ryu gauge runs out. Don't stop when your gauge runs out. I made that mistake and he damaged me with his soundwaves as I waited for my gauge to reload. Just keep damaging him and he will injure you miniminally. Good luck! Go past Pyro to the Lower Area Ward. Chinatown - Lower Area Ward --------------------------- Go eastward to the stairs up to the Upper parts. China Town - Upper Area Ward ---------------------------- Continue to Center Street. IMPORTANT!!!! - You may want to talk to Mozomuni, a guy sitting with a Rice- Field Hat for some optional quests. Here will start the series of optional quests that include 5 secret bosses. The part will be boxed. If you do not desire to attempt this venture, please skip the boxed part to 'Center Street - Elevator Hall'. Thank you. S I D E - Q U E S T S ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Upper Area Ward | | --------------- | | Find Morozumi looking over the street in the upper part of this area. She | | will fall down to the street. Go after her by going to the west (down the | | ramp) and north to find an open doorway that was closed previously. Walk | | on the rafters to catch up to her. After two cutscenes, you will finally | | get to Morozumi. | | | | ==================== | | Boss: Mozomuni | | ==================== | | Can be tough if you don't have your HP full at the beginning of the | | battle. Mozomuni has the ability to stun you with her venomous needles, | | leaving you all open for her doing. Just hug her with Nitoh-Ryu and stay | | close to her. Her high heels can damage you big-time, but if you use X | | to side-step, you should be able to avoid it. | | | | Go up the stairs to the Highest Ward. | | | | Highest Ward | | ------------ | | Head south to the elevator that will take you back to Upper Area Ward. | | | | Upper Area Ward | | --------------- | | Go down the ramp to the Elevator Hall. | | | | Elevator Hall | | ------------- | | Go north to get to the different part of Upper Area Ward. | | | | Upper Area Ward | | --------------- | | Go all of the way to the back, but DO NOT enter the 'Sallah's' door. | | Instead, go to the left to find a TINY opening against the Sallah manor. | | Enter thorugh that opening. | | | | Japanese Quarter - Red-Light District Square | | -------------------------------------------- | | Go further north and turn right, toward the big mansion behind a fence. | | Go up the stairs, into the mansion. A cutscene with a weird Japanese maid | | will occur. Follow the hallway to the right to find some wolves ambushing | | you. Just Nitoh-Ryu 'em to hell. Follow the same hallway to the end. Guess | | what? The maid wasn't really maid! Let's fight! | | | | ==================== | | Boss: Tsugaki-Dayuu | | ==================== | | I actually have no idea what she just did to me... I guess she just | | whipped her hair at me. Whoo-pee. Just Nitoh-Ryu her ass and her hair | | will be gone to hair-heaven. One of the easier bosses in the game. | | | | Re-trace your steps back to the Red-Light District. This time, take the | | western exit (go across the red bridge to find the door). | | | | Japanese Quarter - Broad Street | | ------------------------------- | | Follow the path to the south-most point in the area, and meet Hanzo, a | | lazy, fugly bastard. He will force you to fight his machine, Gohtenmaru. | | | | ==================== | | Boss: Gohtenmaru | | ==================== | | Part 1: Circle him and hit him when he has his back or side to you. Not | | required to do that, but it saves your HP that way. | | Part 2: When his wheels have fallen off, just go behind him and attack | | the faces on the sides from there. He can't hurt you at all. | | Part 3: You have to suck it up and face him from the front. Damage his | | box from the sides, if you can. If you cannot... just duke it | | out with him and hope you out-live him. Good luck. | | | | Go through the new door to Elevator Hall. | | | | Elevator Hall | | ------------- | | Go through this to Upper Area Ward, straight ahead (east side - you came | | from the west, assuming you came from Gohtenmaru). | | | | Upper Area Ward | | --------------- | | Go up the ramp and go through the red door with symbols (ONLY will open if | | you have defeated the other 3 secret bosses). | | | | Chinatown - Seal Off Oniwaka | | ---------------------------- | | Come up to the lone man and prepare.... for a battle! | | | | ==================== | | Boss: Oniwaka | | ==================== | | He is really, really tough. I tried using parry (triangle) but I found | | that it doesn't do any good even if I successfully blocked some of his | | shots since I had to strike back with effectiveness. Bah. So I kinda | | figured a way to SURVIVE this battle. Just turn the Ryu on and go BEHIND | | him and fire away. He will surely do some attack and knock you down, but | | the question is WHEN. He might miss some, allowing you for more time to | | damage. You don't have to be perfect here, just inflict more damage than | | you receive. When he turns, you go behind him once again. If your Ryu | | runs out, just go in a distance and let it re-charge. Rinse and repeat. | | Also, don't take too long between attacks, his HP recovers over time. | | | | Leave the place. | | | | Upper Area Ward | | --------------- | | Go down the ramp and go up the elevator (talk to the man to open the | | elevator). | | | | Highest Ward | | ------------ | | Go across the bridge in the middle and head north, find a small passage | | lodged in a corner. Open the red door to the final secret boss! | | | | ==================== | | Boss: Ushiwaka | | ==================== | | First of all, ALWAYS, ALWAYS be on Nitoh Ryu mode when attacking him. If | | you're not on that mode, then DON'T ATTACK. He will crush you. You need | | the most out of your HP. So For every damage you receive, you should be | | able to damage him in return too. The best time to attack him is when he | | drops from one of the posts. Also, you can attack him after he finishes | | a move. Parrying might be a good idea if you're experienced with it. | | This one might take you a few tries (it took me 3 tries...) before you | | get the habit of attacking only when it is benefitable. Just don't | | attack if you think you will get attacked shortly. :) Use the field! Run | | around to charge your Ryu up! | | | | CONGRATS! You have completed the side-quest segment of Chapter 3! Time to | | go back to the main story! Go down the same elevator you used coming here | | back to Upper Area Ward. Then go down to Elevator Lift. | | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Center Street - Elevator Hall ----------------------------- Go to the north to enter the fancy part of Upper Area Ward. Center Street - Upper Area Ward ------------------------------- Just head STRAIGHT ahead to the palace of Sallah. Center Building - Lobby ----------------------- Just get on the elevator and get up. Sallah's Room ------------- After some talk and cutscenes, you will face the same boss you faced earlier (Kyric). ==================== Boss: Kyric II ==================== Please. This guy is a fool. Just keep attacking him and on your second Ryu combo, he'll be dead. Boring. After some "shocking" cutscenes, the chapter ends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 4 - THE MAN IN WHITE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chinatown - VIP Room of a Restaurant ------------------------------------ Talk to your comrades if you like and leave to the door, where a cutscene will begin. (Man in White!) The Sewer - Level 5 ------------------- Watch the Matrix-like cutscene, and you've got yourself some ninjas and wolves to fight here. Go downstairs to find a smaller amount of enemies to slay. As always, move on. The Sewer - Level 4 ------------------- After a conversation with the clown (that's what I call him...), several Rollers, which will roll up into a ball and roll at you will appear. Prepare yourself for them by guarding. If they comes, you're ready to protect yourself. Sometimes they would stop before they reach you. Either way, destroy them with your favorite mode, Nitoh-Ryu (right?). There's a big mecha on the stairs... try to get behind him with steps and Ryu him. Go downstairs and meet a strange monster on a leviating machine. His name is Drei, and he will be on your Enemy List. No boss fight here, yet. Proceed. Elevator #2 ----------- ==================== Boss: White-Fox II ==================== I actually won this fight without suffering any damage from him. He's not exactly easy, but you can exploit his weakness. He likes to step to here and there, so wait until he steps in a manner that his back is to you (circle around him) and attack him with Nitoh-Ryu until he guards. Then back off and wait for the next chance. If the Ryu mode is gone, wait for it to re-charge. Not bad. :) The Sewer - Level 2 (where's 3?) ------------------- Kill every enemy on the first floor here (attack the big mecha from behind and concentrate on the rolling bodies first), and go downstairs. The enemies here will regenerate, so it's not worth the time to worry about them. Ignore them and enter the doorway. The Sewer - Level 1 ------------------- ==================== Boss: White-Fox III ==================== Yep, him again! He has certainly get stronger since the last time he fought you (what'd he do?!?). He will nol longer use steps, but he will fly up and attack you coming down, so whenever you see him go up, RUN! I defeated him by attacking 5 times at a time, because if you keep attacking him over a longer period of time, he will probably jump up and attack you quickly or just slash you. Attacking him in short bursts (back away after every burst) will allow you to avoid some, if not all, of his attacks. He will parry A LOT toward the end... that makes the battle so tough. That's why you ought to attack him in short bursts, since he will parry the longer strings. Alternatively, I've found that just attacking like crazy with Nitoh-Ryu also works well, albiet a bit risky. Even if he parrys, just attack, attack, and attack until his parry meter is depleted. Then you can finally break into him and damage down. Repeat until he is DEAD. :) Go through the door... and watch the last cutscene of Chapter 4, which is pretty surprising. You catch up with the clown and meet 'W', the Man in White in the title. Chapter End ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 5 - STRUGGLE IN THE WILDERNESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Wilderness - East of the City --------------------------------- Immediately, you meet a clan of losers. One of them ends up fighting you. Poor guy, he's going to be brutalized by you. ;) (You get enemies #15-17 in your list) ==================== Boss: Charnel ==================== Not too hard. He throws axes across the arena, but as long you keep close to him and attack in a frenzy, you shouldn't have any trouble. Whenever he moves away, you go to that direction while taping Square and Natoe should go up to him, probably nullifying his attack. :) The Wilderness - Ruins ---------------------- Kill the big mecha and the long leggers first, and destory the rest. As you climb up the stairs, you will be confronted by Zwei, a four-winged goddess bitch. Watch as Natoe get owned by Zwei, only to get saved by Tatsuma. You also get #23-#26 on your enemy list. The Wilderness - Remains of a Fence ----------------------------------- Watch the gay Jet Set Radio-like msuic video, and the funny reaction of Natoe's. Anyway, let's clobber the duo! ==================== Boss: Chi & Mu ==================== Kids. *shrugs* They'll just skate around the place. Try to hit them on the run, as that will stun them. After a while, one or two of the kids will "charge" up with a flame around them. This is when they FINALLY start to seek you. Just keep the same strategy, hit them and keep whacking at them when they're stunned. Yes, you have to defeat BOTH of them to advance. Not difficult to adapt. The Wilderness - West of the Village ------------------------------------ Immediately you are faced with a new boss, Lambda. ==================== Boss: Lambda ==================== unlike the previous bosses, she does not present a challenge. She will cast 'Black Holes' around the arena that will sting you as you pass them, but her HP goes down REALLY FAST! I just kept close to her and I defeated her in no time. To emphasize, I had like 1/4 of the life bar as I entered the battle, and I survived. Not barely. :) Chapter End. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 6 - JUSTICE FOR ONESELF ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Village - Western Zone -------------------------- Head straight east (ignore the right path) to catch up with the other samurai. The Village - Central Zone -------------------------- I will finally make a comment on a cut-scene, and this is the cut-scene here. Here you will see the party attempt to call the villagers out, but just as they think the villagers aren't home, Tatsuma bangs on the metal on the tower, causing panic in the farmers. The farmers quickly come out of their homes and beg for aid. Angry, Kambei denounces them as cowardly, scared of samurai yet they ask for help. This scene is the same in the movie itself, whereas the samurai arrives at the town, nobody appears to be home. Suddenly, when some- thing 'bad' happens, everybody comes out, revealing their hypocrisy. After the cut-scene, come up to Kambei to the left and Tatsuma in the middle for cutscenes. Enter both houses with arrows pointed at them for more cut- scenes, too. All of them will contribute to your understanding of the plot. Exit to the west (use the map). The Village - Western Zone -------------------------- Take the untravelled path to the north. That leads to the house of the 'elder'. She will request that you help the village, for you are the only hope for the village. Go back out and head for the Central Zone again. The Village - Central Zone -------------------------- Head south. *WARNING - You may go to the north or to the east for an area where some wolves and bots will be summoned, but there's nothing going on there.* The Village - Southern Zone --------------------------- Watch as the macho man trains the hopeless farmers. Go on the path and face some wolves, ninjas, and big mechas. As for the big mechas, when they start to punch, press triangle to defend, it will help you out. After clearing the area, go to the new exit... The Village - Hilly Terrain --------------------------- ==================== Boss: Epsilon ==================== I just LOVE this boss. No longer is the mindless sword-crushing. You have to use your parrying skills to defeat him. You HAVE to. First of all, the 'boss' is not the humanoid. It is the doll in his hands. First, do a 'special' attack with your Ryu (just move your analog stick in every direction and hope you did a move that will zoom in, you know what I mean). If you succeed, the doll will pop out of his hands and you will be able to damage it now. Now, the 'doll' will be floating BEHIND the humanoid. Therefore, you will have to be extremely close to the guy to reach the doll. Half of your attacks would be worthless since it won't hit the doll, but try anyway. Epsilon attacks you fast and effectively, so use the parry function to win. Just as he is attacking, press triangle as usual and if you succeed AND is in the Ryu mode, you will receive a time boost so it is very important, unlike the previous ones. Just tap triangle WHENEVER you THINK an attack is coming and continue your melee. However, if your Ryu meter goes out, go away from the guy and let it re-fill because he will overtake you with his superior speed. Afterwards, there will be a pair of cutscenes, including one where the samurai discuss plans and the village. Chapter End. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 7 - TO LIVE AND LET DIE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Town of the Warriors -------------------- After a nifty opening of Chapter 7, you end up underground in an ancient resident of the old Warriors. Follow the only path around to find Zex, the man you once fought a long time ago, again. ==================== Boss: Zex II ==================== For this boss you have to revert to the madness you are used to rather than the strategic approach for Epsilon. Zex can regenerate his HP so it's not worth backing from him if you sense danger. Instead, just use your double swords and attack like, mad even when he's guarding. Break his guard meter and attack into him. Back away only to re-fill your Ryu meter. Ta-da! Go onto the stone bridge and follow the path until you reach a temple-like building. Enter. Town of the Warriors - Western Zone 2 ------------------------------------- Walk around and you will find out that there ARE people here! Keep going and you will confront an elderly man. Never mind about him. When you regain the control of Natoe, head to the right and take the left alley to exit the zone. Town of the Warriors - Western Zone 1 ------------------------------------- Just defeat the easy monsters here and go under the arc to meet the elder you saw earlier once again. This time, you'll have the chance to talk to him. Listen to what he has to say and head north to follow him. There's two Recovery Items here, one behind you and oone on the right branch. Take both if needed. Town of the Warriors - Western Zone 3 ------------------------------------- Enemies here. You know what to do. :) After the battle, you will talk to the man once again. He will bring you over to the door that was guarded earlier. This is the way to the Eastern Zone. Town of the Warriors - Eastern Zone 1 ------------------------------------- Once you enter this area, you will face some common enemies, including some long-leggers. Just parry their attacks. After that, you will encounter a number of rolling balls, which can be tough to defend. Just target them first and pick them off one by one. Eventually it will get easier, and you will prevail. Town of the Warriors - Eastern Zone 2 ------------------------------------- Look to the right for a Recovery Item. Now, this is like the 'final battle' of this chapter. After this, there will be no more stuff to do. The first rrom here has some rollers and wolves. Just lure them into the sides with the caskets and kill them as they come. They WILL hurt you sdome, but try to minimize it because you stil got some more fights to come. If you got away with 3/4 oif your life bar, consider it wonderful. The next room has some rollers, wolves, AND large mechas. It's VERY difficult to sirvive the fury here because of the number. Here's what I did to survive. I lured them into the doorway I used to enter this room and killed them off as they squeezed into the opening. Then I retreated to the previous room and isolated myself to a small group rather in a large one. Don't get stuck in a large number of enemies, that is what will kill you. The monsters drop a LOT of Recovery Items so look for them when you're low on health! *ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT Do you want to find the secret boss #19 - Brahman? This is where you get him. Go to the second part of the room and clear the monsters out. Go close to the green arrow but DO NOT GO THROUGH THE DOOR! Go back to the FIRST room and the caskets in the room will explode. More wolves and rollers and mechas will come out! Oh boy... Just suck it up and kill them all (they drop a lot of recovery items). After winning, a bridge to the door in the sand waterfall will appear with some Recovery Items on it. Enter the door to the great Brahman!!!! After the victory, enter the new door. ==================== Boss: Brahman ==================== He is actually easy! Just Ryu to him death like you always did to your foes and some of the bosses. :)))))))))))) WHOO!!! *ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT*ALERT Go through the new door with the green arrow... Watch the LONG cut-scenes (something happened to Eight... - I finally figured the clown's name! ^_^ it was on his hat all along!). Chapter End. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 8 - SEARCHING FOR SIN WITHOUT MALICE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In the movie "Shichinin no Samurai", a captured bandit was brought to the village for questioning. Here in the game, a Humanoid is brought in for questioning. Guess what? In both cases, the villagers beat the hopeless guy up! ^_^ Fort of Drei - Door of Gluttony ------------------------------- Just head North... and Natoe the bonehead gets separated from the others! HAHAHA... oh wait.. damn! Fort of Drei - Window of Greed ------------------------------ The first floor here has some yellow weirdos, they're nothing to worry about. Their attacks are predictable so it's fairly easy to parry them off. The second enemy is a purple machine with razors as arms. They only take 10 Ryu hits before they dies so strike fast and press triangle sometime for safety's sake. Get on the sphere and let it fall down. The next set of enemies are the same: yellow guys and purple guys. You know what to do. I would prefer killing the purple guys, as they are sloths and easier to kill. Then you will face a brand new enemy: purple swordsman. They will run and swing at you as the first thing they do so press triangle as they come and kill them off. Only 5 Ryu hits wil do for each. Enter the new door... Fort of Drei - Path of Sloth ---------------------------- How predictable... Several yellow knights and purple razors will come out of the shells here. Just whip their ass. However, the next segment is probably one of the toughest challenges you'll see here. There are liek 100 of the purple swordsman you just fought in the elevator. My recommendation is: DO NOT let the knights circle you. Instead, try to make them walk to YOU. Charge your Ryu up and swish them as they come. Pay attention for any Recovery Items dropped, too. This is longer than you think... Fort of Drei - Egg of Lust -------------------------- Again, some losers will come out of the shells in the hallway. This time, it's the purple knights and purple razors. You know what to do and don't be afraid to be aggressive because you'll have some Recovery Items to make up for the loss. After the battle, go into the central hub and pick all of the Recovery Items. Enter the last door... Fort of Drei - Cage of Pride ---------------------------- Looks who's back and stronger than ever... it's Arnold Schwarzengger. :) ==================== Boss: Zex Beast ==================== Beast indeed. First, you have to catch him from behind and hack at him until his 'defense' meter is depleted. Then you will be able to damage him physically. He likes to punch down at you or let his spikes in his body go at you. The punches are easy to spot, so pay attention to it and parry it for more Ryu time. Spikes are unpredictable, but you should be able to beat him nevertheless. High-damaging boss, but easy to take down. Just keep hacking at him as always. Leave the room... Fort of Drei - Egg of Lust -------------------------- Back here, you will notice the shells have broken... Yep, time for a small battle. There's only a few of yellow and purple knights. No problem for ya. Go into the only remaining door. Fort of Drei - Seat of Envy --------------------------- Alas, Mr. Drei himself! Drei the magician will conjure up a combination of ice/fire to make a boss to slay you. Stop him! ==================== Boss: Mangler ==================== He will cast some ice/fire spells to come up under you, but as long you keep going in circles (either direction), you shouldn't get hit by those. Turn on your Ryu and step toward him and slash at him. He will probably try to hit you, but it won't be frequent. Parry them if you like. His HP goes down faster than most of the bosses in the game. A absurd boss over- all. Watch the depressing cinema that occurs afterwards. Chapter End. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 9 - VICTORY BORN FROM DEATH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Village - Southeastern Zone (Forest Road) --------------------------------------------- OMG The Humanoids have attacked the village! Let's curl up in a fetal position and cry! Nah, just kidding. Once you take over the control of Natoe, you will have to destroy some regular minions (ninjas, wolves, bots). I recommend that you draw them into the open water and fight them there. After clearing the field, some horsemen that you saw earlier will come onto your path. Stand on the path and wait for them to come and hack them. Your timing must be such that when the horse is about a man's length from you, you should be already swinging. If you're too late, you will get hit. If the timing is a BIT late, the swords might clash, no damage for both sides. After you've destroyed all of the bots and encountered all of the horsemen, the battle ends. Return to the village. The Village - Central Zone -------------------------- Enter the hub of the village and several squads of enemies will come. They are quite easy, actually. A skater can be tripped up with a single hit. You have fought a million bots and ninjas thus far, so it's old news. You know what to do. Go to the only way out after the combat. The Village - Southeastern Zone (Forest Road) --------------------------------------------- Back here, Natoe will just check the status of the samurai chick. Nothing big happening here... You will be automatically put back to the central zone. The Village - Central Zone -------------------------- Holy shit. Remember the last time you came here? You just fought some bots and that crap. This time, there a TON and I repeat, a TOOOOOON! of wolves! Plus, there's some large mechas with guns. The battle will be looooong but there are plenty of recovery items ot be found here throughout the battle. Whenever you ever see one, try to lure the fighting to that area so you can pick the item up and still be fighting. The area is fairly large, so use that as your advantage to bring on wolves (mechas walks slow) only. If you get yourself in a large pack of wolves, try to move away and isolate some wolves away. Also run away to re-charge your Ryu mode. Head to the east, where the only opening lurks. You will just see the clown Eight again, wounded. Natoe will walk back to Central Zone, only to find MORE enemies! UGGGGGGGGGGH! This segment, with ninjas and swordsmen and tall purple guys combined with the high population produce the game's hardest segment. I never died battling these guys, but it is vital that you have a high HP remaining afterwards because ther will be an another tough battle upcoming. Anyway, my tips are: -Run around in circles looking for Recovery Items while waiting for your Ryu meter to fill up. -Use Guard and Steps to evade attacks. I repeat, GUARD! This is probably the reason why you're not getting out of this with decent HP. Just trust me and guard a LOT. Steps are also effective. -NEVER get trapped around foes. I've stated this a lot during the walkthrough and I'll say this again... If you get trapped, all the foes do will take turns hitting you down. Just step away and re-group. -This is an excellent chance to get the katanas only unlocked by the combos (the highest - 200). Keep your combo alive by Just Guards and Just Steps. -Whenever you see some Recovery Items nearby, try to 'move' the battle toward that spot so you can get it without breaking your 'stride' of the fight. -If there's like 1 or 2 enemies left, DO NOT kill them! Just look around for some Recovery Items. Then kill them. Then... you shall receive one more wrath from the lazy developers. Damn, I hate when game developers just slap in HUGE number of enemies in one area just to make it harder. ANYWAY... you remember the boss that held Tatsuma captive in Chapter 2? Well, he's BACK and harder than ever! To defeat him, constantly pummel him with Ryu attacks while press triangle to Guard against his quick and powerful attacks. Ignore the rollers and the villain's mines. Good luck!!! After all of that crap, go south to find FOUR LARGE Recovery Items! Thank God. Continue going to the south. The Village - Southern Zone --------------------------- SHIT. I hate this already. There are a ton of wolves and bots and some large mechas. Focus on the wolves first and evade with Guards and Steps. A LOT. AVOID the mechas at ALL COSTS! Just fight the smaller enemies for now. When all of them are gone, focus on the mechas. Now, it is VERY possible for you to defeat all of them without every getting hurt. Just go up to it and hack at them. When you see one of them wind up, step away (press X twice) while pressing the other way. Then go back in and so forth. Make sure you Ryu mode is on, too. Also, if you find yourself cornered, just step away. You need every drop of your HP to win this. I DID. I had a SILVER of my HP left. After the battle, you witness a heroic effort by Eight. *sniff* Continue through the crack to the areas beyond. *NOTE: If you die in the following boss battles, you will have to do the previous gate-thing ALL OVER AGAIN! ARGH! ==================== Boss: Klein, Weite and Lange ==================== Surprising, the trio are not that hard at all. The developers made their HP quite low, so taking all of them down will be pretty quick. Just pick one of the enemies and focus on him until he is dead. Then pick the next one. Don't forget to Guard, too. The hardest one would be Klein, the red one that spews fire. Use Steps to avoid his fire and go behind him... Onward. ==================== Boss: Zwei ==================== She is more like an annoyance to you rather than a real boss. She is tough enough to kill you, however. Now, she will throw some spikes at you if you're far away. So don't get in that situation! She will fly above the arena, doing nothing except looking for a place to land. Wait for her to land and come up to her AND GUARD! YOU MUST GUARD! If she attack you even once, she will go back to air again. She will continue doing that until you die. So, GUARD for your own sake and attack while doing it. Keep moving and guarding and attacking her. If you have attacked her plenty before getting hit, consider it a success. Keep doing that and she should die eventually... her HP goes down fast, too. Man... This chapter SUCKS. Watch the cut-scene with 'W' and his information on Hinata's secret. Chapter End. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FINAL CHAPTER - WHAT MAKES US HUMAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gate of Avalon -------------- Immedaitely after the chick unlocks the door to Avalon, you are confronted. ==================== Boss: Guardian ==================== Remember Zwei? She would run away once she hit you, right? Same with this one. As long you parry his attacks, you will have him ready for your attacks. He will disappear into outer realm and appear behind you back. Just wait and be quick-witted and parry his attack as he comes and counter with your Ryu moves. Don't stop there! Keep parrying his next attacks and keep attacking. Climb the stairs to re-join the chick. Library of Avalon ----------------- ==================== Boss: Guardian ==================== Same thing as before, only that this one has a bit more HP and the arena you're fighting is smaller. Yawn. Watch as the couple enter the sacred Library of Avalon. When you re-gain the control of Natoe, go up the ramp by the girl to go down. Corridor of Avalon ------------------ Just head straight ahead, to the statue. Then the girl will go berserk. Alas, Ein himself is here! Howeverm you will not be fighting him... Entrance to the Old World ------------------------- ==================== Boss: Fen ==================== His Hp regenerates like CRAZY!!! If you leave him alone for 5 seconds or so, he'll be back to full health(more like 10 but whatever)! So, just keep slashing at him with Ryu and parrying his attacks. His attacks are far and few, though. Just press triangle when the guard meter's full and you should be alright. I fought him with 1/4 of my HP bar left and I still beat him. That's how rarely he attacks (combined with my superior Just Guards, hehe). Good luck! The Final Road -------------- Drei will be making a comeback here, only to get betrayed by his own invention: ==================== Boss: Ultimate Zex ==================== He isn't too shabby... You have to attack his hands until he hangs his head onto the arena, and then you go up to his head and make him pay by breaking his shield, which is located at the end. Once you have the barrier broken, the boss will take damage via his hands now. From now on, just concentrate on the hands until the Hp bar goes away... The Cathedral ------------- Ein is back... He will make his favorite Playboy model disappear. YAY! ==================== Boss: Ein ==================== O_O OMG. RIDICULOUSLY EASY! All he does is show off his sword to the gods and puts it in the ground and comes up under you. Maybe some swishes at you, but that's it. You know all that bosses that you just Ryu-ed to death. Do the same to him and the victory is yours! Ta-da! We have beaten the final boss and he was nothing! let's go... oh wait. He can't be THAT EASY! Yep, there's one MORE battle! ==================== Boss: Almana ==================== Almana will release a 'ribbon' or two around him to YOU. If only ONE of the ribbons is being sent, it's the chance for you to do something. Attack the ribbon to lower his Guard meter. Do it over and over again whenever you have the chance. When the meter is gone, Almana will finally descend. Go up to him and attack away. He will go back up, however, and restarting the whole process over again. Just do what you just did (ribbon attack). It took me three descents before he was dead. I recommend you to step around him as it is more effective at avoiding Almana's attacks, especially the yellow spikes. If two ribbons are sent, it will go more quickly and go back to him right away. You only may attack the ribbon when only one is coming. Watch the ending and enjoy! Learn your ranking and save the game so you can use the Katanas on your next game! Also, you will unlock some new modes, too! Game End. To quote the movie, Kambei Shimada: So. Again we are defeated. The farmers have won. Not us. _________|\_________________________________________________________________ |_________||_________________________________________________________________\ |/ --------------------------- IV.
