I am Syonyx, and this is my guide to the game THE SCORPION KING: RISE OF THE AKKADIAN, based on the movie The Scorpion King, which is a spin-off prequel to the movie The Mummy Returns, which is a sequel to the movie The Mummy. Got it? Now that that's cleared up, we can get on with the show. In this game, you take on the role of Mathayus, who looks and sounds suspiciously like The Rock, in a third-person adventure game set mostly in ancient Egypt. This guide will walk you through the game with as much useful information as I can come up with. For the most part this will boil down to combat, since that makes up the vast bulk of the game. You will find general combat tips in section 4, below. Perhaps most importantly, I will provide straightforward instructions on defeating the game's hulking bosses, both within the walkthrough and in a separate section. I have repeated that information to accommodate those dear readers who only need tips on defeating the bosses, since they are the most likely places a player might get stuck. To top it off, I will also lead you to as many rubies and hidden power-ups as I have been able to locate. To navigate through the walkthrough, please see the index immediately below this introductory section. It provides a search function that will let you jump to the section for the area that you're looking for in the game. This guide was written primarily for the GameFAQS community, though you may see it elsewhere in time. I hope you enjoy it, and that it helps in some small way. Please direct any further questions, suggestions, or intelligent comments to: [syonyx_faqs at yahoo dot com]. You can also check the end of the guide for a little bit more info on me, Syonyx, the author of these words that you're reading. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ LEGAL INFO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This document is copyright (c) Marc Lalonde, a.k.a. See the resemblance? | /||/ | E: Boss life meter D------------ / || | (boss fights only) | / || | | /\ | | / \ ____________ | | / \|_==========_| | |___________________|____________________| | E-' +++ GAME PROGRESSION +++ Here's the lowdown: You walk into a new area. The enemy meter appears with a number showing how many enemies there are to defeat. The enemies come at you, you kill them. Each time you kill one, the enemy meter appears again briefly showing you how many are left. Once they're all dusted, the door to the next area opens. Walk through it and it starts all over again. Fun? Along the way, don't forget to look for power-ups in breakable objects, rubies, and new weapons, found in sarcophagi throughout the game. Mathayus' life meter shows two things: health in green (top), and stamina in blue (bottom). Once stamina is gone, you can't do any stamina moves until you replenish your bar. Your health bar can be supplemented by Tail Gems (red stones that fill slots around bottom of life meter). You gain these by defeating major enemies. One tail gem equals a full life bar. If you have any tail gems remaining when the life bar runs out, the gem goes out and the bar is refilled. You don't lose gems permanently; as you grab health power- ups, they fill up again. Basically, each tail gem you earn increases your maximum health. When all gems and the health bar are empty, you die, and are given the choice to continue. Choose 'yes' to re-start from the last save point (see below), or the start of the boss battle, if you're currently in one. Some areas contain a scorpion-icon save point on the ground. They start off inactive. You have to clear all of the enemies in the area (which also opens the door to the next area) to turn them on. Stand on the save point and press X to activate it, taking you to the pause menu (see below), where the save game option is now available. *** Note on Timed Combat *** In a few areas, the words 'Timed Combat' and a green bar will appear at the top of the screen when you enter. The bar will gradually deplete, and if you can kill all of the enemies before it vanishes completely, you will be rewarded with a ruby, which appears near the exit door. If you fail this task, don't worry! You can re-enter this area and re-try as many times as it takes. So do it again with a different weapon, or enter from the opposite end to take advantage of the topography, or just keep button-mashing away until you succeed. +++ POWER-UPS +++ 1. Health (25, 50, Full). Fills up the stated percentage of the health meter ("Full" means one full bar/tail gem, not maximum health). 2. Stamina (25, 50, Full). Fills up the stated percentage of the stamina meter. 3. Strength up. Increases the damage Mathayus reaps on his enemies permanently. 4. Endurance up. Decreases the damage Mathayus takes from the blows he receives permanently. 5. Cure poison/slow/wither. See the Combat section for the various status effects. The first two power-ups (health and stamina) can be found in a variety of ways. Most come from defeating enemies. Some are found when you break jars, vases, and other pieces of the environment. A few are just lying around. Strength and Endurance power-ups can only be found in cracks in the ground or walls. Do a ground stomp near these cracks to obtain them. Note: Most of the time, you do not need to physically touch the power-ups. Once they are revealed (by killing certain enemies or destroying objects), they will fly over to you on their own. +++ BLOOD RUBIES +++ Every stage contains a specific number of rubies, some well hidden, others quite obvious. Walk near them to collect them, or break open the object they're contained inside. You'll have to jump to reach a few of them. Collect as many as you can to open up bonuses in the opening menu. Each time you've collected enough rubies to open up a new bonus, an icon shaped like an eye will flash in the bottom left of the game screen. The vast majority of these bonuses are concept art and sketches of the various game environments, objects, weapons, and enemies, so I won't list them in this guide. There are also unlockable movies from the game, but these are revealed as you reach those movies through normal play. There are also trailers for the feature film, cartoon, and the video game itself, but these are available at the start. You can see how many rubies are in each stage by opening the pause menu. The current stage's rubies will be shown on the left side of the bar at the top, in the format [found/total in stage]. You can also select 'Rubies' under 'Status' to see the number collected/total in each stage reached so far. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ PAUSE MENU ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Press 'Start' at any time during gameplay to open up this menu. You have the following options: 1. Continue. Return to the game. 2. Status. Gives you more options: i) Weapon. Shows you combos for the currently- equipped weapon. ii) Rubies. Inventory of rubies from all stages. iii) Back. Return to the previous screen. 3. Options 4. Save game. Only available when standing on an active save point. 5. Quit. Leave the game and go to the opening screen. Press X to select options, and Triangle to back up one screen. ******************************************************** -----================================================================----- ***** 4) COMBAT ***** -----================================================================----- ******************************************************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ NOTES ON MOVES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ BLOCKING & BREAKOUT MOVES +++ Sometimes the best offense is a good defense, or something like that. Anyway, while blocking, Mathayus takes half damage if he is bare-armed, and no damage if carrying a shield. The shield takes damage, however, and will flash green, then yellow, orange, red, then disappear as it absorbs hits. Pick up another shield to repair your current one. But why just block when you can knock some guys over too? The following commands are available while blocking: Block + light attack: Shield charge. Knock over foes ahead of you. Block + strong attack: Leg sweep. Kick out your opponent's legs, bringing them to the ground. You can damage them while they're on the ground in this way, too. Block + stamina attack: Breakout stamina attack. All enemies around Mathayus will be sent flying. Use these moves to keep the number of standing, attacking enemies low. Block too much, and you'll deplete your shield, so use it wisely. Be aware, too, that some moves can't be blocked. Enemies have stamina attacks too! Also know that enemies can block, but they will still take half-damage without a shield. You can always use a stamina attack to break their block, or grapple them. +++ STAMINA MOVES +++ These, as the name suggest, use up stamina, the blue bar under your health bar in the top left of the screen. You can replenish your stamina by collecting power-ups. Stamina moves knock away all enemies around you, so use them when you're being surrounded. There is a standing stamina move, where you spin around and might give an additional strike depending on your weapon, a breakout stamina move (while blocking), and each weapon type has a running stamina move as well, which is described in the tables below. Use them wisely, but don't be too stingy with them either, because power-ups are plentiful when lots of enemies are around. +++ JUMPING MOVES +++ You have to hit the attack button before Mathayus reaches the top of his jump for it to work. This sends a small shockwave out in all directions, causing minor damage and momentarily stunning your enemies. Follow this up quickly with some direct attacks before they recover. You can also use this on fallen enemies to add a little extra injury to insult. Using the strong attack, as opposed to the light attack, brings your weapon into the smash, but any difference in damage is negligible. +++ THROWING OBJECTS +++ Pick up and throw urns and some other objects with the light attack button. They will damage and knock over whomever they hit. You cannot use them to hit an enemy immediately in front of you; they must be at least a little distance away. Some urns hold surprises too. Red, short urns with a flame pattern on the side will release fire when they break. Others let out a puddle of black ooze, or explode on contact. That's all well and good when you're tossing them at other people, but if you get hit while carrying one, you'll drop it and feel the effects, and if you break it open directly, whatever's inside will harm you as well. +++ FIGHTING DOWNED OPPONENTS +++ When a man is down, why be noble? You can kick the crap out of him before he gets up. The following moves can damage an opponent on the ground: 1. Jumping attack (ground stomp) 2. Leg sweep (Strong attack while blocking) 3. Many strikes and combos, especially single strong attacks. The only problem is, the first two don't do very much damage, as fun as they are. It's more efficient overall to start a new combo on a foe once he starts to rise. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ WEAPON & SHIELD LIST ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The weapon selector, in the top right of the screen, shows which weapon types are available to you. They are: Top: Gauntlet/bare Left: One-handed sword ---------+---------- Right: Broadsword Bottom: Spear Press the directional pad in the appropriate direction while standing still or blocking to switch to that weapon type. If your health is high, they won't really be a problem, but otherwise they can be deadly. 1. Poison. A green glow will surround you and you will slowly lose health for a set period of time, unless you pick up an antidote charm. 2. Slow. You will be unable to run while under it's effect, which last a few moments. Anti-slow charms will cure this condition. 3. Wither. Your stamina will slowly dissipate. Grab an anti-wither charm to cancel the effects, or just get stamina power-ups once it's done. 4. Fire. It burns, it burns! Fire will also take away some health. The flames will go out on their own eventually, or as soon as you jump into some water. Run around the room as he runs at you, and when he's stuck in the wall, chop him a few times. Be careful as he pushes himself loose, or he'll send you flying. So basically, run around until he charges, then hack away. I'm not certain, but running in close and then dodging back might tempt him into charging more often. And even though there are no enemies, those flying spirits can hurt you, and even knock you into the abyss if you're in the middle of a jump. Hit the first gong and jump twice along the right wall, then out to a middle platform. Jump from there to the biggest middle platform, then from the far end to the second gong. Okay, I guess there's not much puzzling involved, so let's say gong challenge. Leave the gong on the ground alone for now; it should be the last one you hit. Instead, go to the right where the floating block is doing it's thing. It follows a certain pattern. To get to the top, wait until after the block rises to head level, waits a moment, drops again, raises to head level again and immediately drops back down, THEN goes all the way up to the top. Watch it for a couple cycles, then jump onto it as it's going all the way up, and quickly jump off again to the next gong. You can hit this gong to start the timer, then run and jump along the top. At the far end, the third gong is down a short tunnel to the right, before you reach the exit door. Strike that one, then run off the edge to the first gong on the ground and complete the sequence. The sphinx will occasionally flash a symbol above him. You have to stomp on that symbol before he puts up a new one. The Sphinx will then let out a wind blast that pushes you back to the start, forcing you to run all the way back up again, where there is now a path leading to the Sphinx, which you need to take, get a few chops in, and get out again before the path vanishes. Complicating this matter are the fireballs that shoot out of the statues on either side as you run up. They shoot faster the more damage you do to the sphinx. Stay along one wall and turn the camera to a sharper angle, so you can see the fireballs' impact points, and run past each one after it hits. Also, he summons catmen to impede your progress (but not while the fireballs are firing). Just avoid them, and the wind blast will take them out of the picture. You need good reach to hit the Sphinx, so try your spear-type weapon and use single hard strikes. The path leading to him will shake before it vanishes, so you know when to vamoose. When you get him down to 1/4 life, he also starts with area blasts near the front if you take too long hitting the right symbol. Run up and knock them all out, then get ready for a barrage of Horus warriors. As before, just chop as they're swooping in, and give a series of light attacks to finish them off. To reward yourself, grab the Serpent's Tongue from the weapons chest, then leave. ___________ / \ ------ Worn Thin -------------------------------------------------- gmwtn -- \___________/ Enemies: 9 Rubies found: 3 -in vines between garden plots on ground level -on top of crates in broken-open area -between stairs in broken-open area Watch those archers! They're annoying, because there's no safe place, so take one of them out as a priority, then stay on that side to avoid the other. Once the enemies are all gone, push over the statue and look at the hole it made. If you want to go down for the rubies, be VERY careful. Start at the edge closest to the top of the stairs, and make sure you step onto each level of crates, one by one. Failure to do so makes you fall to your death, for some unfathomable reason. When done, climb back out, jump from the top crates to the broken floor above, and go up the stairs and leave this area. ___________________ / \ ------ Heaped Compassion ------------------------------------------ gmhcp -- \___________________/ Enemies: 7 Rubies found: 2 -in water past pair of pedestals -around corner from second pedestal panel Once you take out all but 2 of the enemies (including the archer in the far corner), carry both pedestals across the lowered bridge. Leave one on the ground, and place the other on the gold panel. This raises the bridge and the stairs. Carry the other one up the stairs and across the bridge, and place it on the other panel over there. This releases a couple of brutes. Lure them into the fountain, then jump out and hack at their helpless heads. They can still toss cinderblocks at you, or punch you if you stay too close, but they should now be easy pickings. Killing them unlocks the door on the first side of the bridge. _______________ / \ ------ Travel by Day ---------------------------------------------- gmtbd -- \_______________/ TIMED! Once the two sides are done, take out the center, then run for cover again. Repeat for the second level. After the archers are gone, ground troops appear below. Let them come to you. The way to go is to toss them into the pit that they're standing so precariously close to. Start on the left, and stomp in front of him to make him stagger back over the edge. Do the same for the next two, though it might take two stomps to push them far enough. By now, the barrage has abated enough for you to manage the others without too much trouble. Don't put any in front of the sinister-looking door, just on the light-colored floors. Now, climb to the pedestal that's already up top, pick it up, and place it on the nearby panel with the sun design. This raises one of the pedestals you placed earlier. Put that one on another sun panel, etcetera, etcetera, until the door opens. If ever you screw up, you can reset the room by pressing the small rectangle in the wall across from the exit. If you get him to run through one of the columns, it'll collapse, but it doesn't do any damage to him or you. You can hack at him then block as he shoots, but this will wear your shield out quickly. Instead, stand pressed against the wall to the left of the statue. Take them out quickly (they do fall rather easily), and keep running around, as another archer appears close to the entrance. There are also shields aplenty to pick up around the main room. The rest of the enemies will be town guards mixed in with Magus archers from time to time, but they all seem to fall with just one strike. Be sure to check the rooms they come from for treasures before you kill the last of each bunch. Four of them contain rubies, one contains a shield, and the others have Full Health power-ups. The fourth room to open contains a whopping 4 brutes. After that bunch, the rest should be a cinch. What, this guy again? What a pain. Anyway, since you're a pro at this by now, take him out with impunity. ___________________ / \ ------ The Great Charade ------------------------------------------ rttgc -- \___________________/ Enemies: 1 Rubies: 0 After a long movie (and yes, every time you die, you have to sit through it to try again), the action begins. Weaponless, shieldless, you have your work cut out for you. BOSS: Magus This one's a toughie. First, the Anubis warriors: the best way to defeat them without taking any damage is to use jumping stomp attacks exclusively. Sure, it takes a long time, but they have such range with their spears, and you have none, that it's the only way to not get killed long before you can hurt Magus enough to take him out. So stomp attacks it is. Once the warriors are gone, Magus will trap you in a crystal prison where you stand, then shoot fireballs at you. Try to have a corner of the center structure between you and him when this happens, as it can block the fireballs. If not, jump up and down a lot, and hopefully some fireballs will be aimed over your head. Whatever happens, block when the fireball nears you to minimize any damage you may take. Once the prison vanishes, running side to side is enough to avoid the fireballs. Now, after the barrage of fireballs is over, you can take on Magus hand to hand, except that it's hand to spear. Do a stomp to get in close, then use mostly just light punches, mixed in with the occasional strong hit, to keep him off balance. When he dodges back, get out of the way quickly before he knocks you down, then start all over again. When he's running away from you, get close and then stomp to throw him off again. Eventually, he brings his wind shield back up, after which more Anubis warriors will be released. The more Magus is damaged, the more warriors will come after you. One reader informed me that they had a lot of trouble even using this method, but that they never collected any strength or endurance power-ups throughout the game. If this is the case for you, then there might be nothing for it except to restart or reload a much earlier game and power up along the way. But assuming you've found a decent number of them, if you fight well, and you can finish Magus in three rounds. Congratulations, you've defeated the big bad! But there's a small twist... _______________ / \ ------ The Chaos God ---------------------------------------------- rttcg -- \_______________/ Enemies: 1 Rubies: 0 Oh boy, this is the big one. BOSS: Set This is a weird fight. First, he'll stomp around, sending out shockwaves with each step. Stay far away to avoid them, jump over them if you can't. After a short while, he'll start shooting fireballs. Dodge them if you can. It's best to move back and forth quickly, jumping here and there. It's also easier to avoid them the farther away you are. Once you avoid all of them (they start at 3, but increase as you damage him), or once you get hit, he will start to laugh. At this point, you should run in close before the twin snakes on his shoulders shoot a steady stream of fire. It's best to move in close, and walk carefully back and forth, staying between the beams, as they sweep slowly left and right. After that, it's your turn. Watch out, though, as he will shoot a stun ball at this point, and if it hits you, you can't run for a few moments. Around the room, some of the discs will glow orange. You may also notice a timer overhead. While Set spits fireballs at you, run around and stomp on all glowing discs before the timer runs out. Doing so hits Set with some weird energy, and then you get your chance to actually hurt him (see next paragraph). The number of discs that you have to stomp on increases as you do more damage to Set, from 3 at the start to x by the end. When the discs glow, you will also find a stamina and a health power-up around the ring. Pick these up before stomping on the last disc if you need them. Once Set is on the ground, you have to chop at the little snakes on both sides of his head. Do this from the sides so that they don't bite you. Once they're gone, you can hurt the big guy himself, by targeting his head. Combos won't do anything, since he has a brief recovery period after each hit, so just use single hard strikes. You can get 3-4 hits in before he gets back up, at which point you should run away before he starts stomping again. Finally, once Set is down to 1/4 health, he starts shooting a random missile barrage instead of fireballs while you're trying to stomp on the discs. Just move around a bit erratically to avoid most of them. You'll take some hits, but that won't kill you in itself. You may also notice that doors open randomly around the perimeter of the arena. Sometimes these contain health power-ups, other times they are empty. If you're very low on health, you might go out of your way to find these, but otherwise don't worry about it. If you pass by one that's open, fine, but don't kill yourself getting there. It'll take a good half a dozen rounds, so keep up the good work, and congratulations! You've beaten the game. Now go tell all your friends, and write to the Rock to let him know while you're at it. ******************************************************** -----================================================================----- ***** 6) BOSS SUMMARY ***** -----================================================================----- ******************************************************** This section is included for those who only want/need assistance with the boss fights, since these are the only combat situations that differ significantly from all other fighting in the game. ============== JESUP & RAMA - Akkadian Village ============== ATTACKS: Normal combat for the most part, though a little tougher than the other opponents so far. Rama uses a staff and knocks you over a lot, while Jesup defends a lot and use shoulder charges to knock you back. HOW TO BEAT: Persistence pays off, as do stomp attacks that momentarily throw them off balance. Most hits do a fair amount of damage. Try to concentrate on defeating Jesup first, so it's easier to maneuver around Rama's staff without distractions. ============== KHEMET ELITE - Town of Khemet ============== ATTACKS: Again, no super special moves, but his double swords make him a foe to contend with. He uses a lot of jumping spinning moves that will knock you to the ground. HOW TO BEAT: Block some attacks then start in with your own. Once you get him on the ground once, just keep hitting him with combos once he starts to rise, and he'll never get the chance to fight back again. ======== ANUBIS - Palace of Khemet ======== ATTACKS: He stays in one place and throws spinning fireballs at you, always preceded by a red glow. At first they are single fireballs, but when you get his health down to 1/2, he throws two in succession. Then, he periodically glows blue and causes an earthquake, which brings some of the roof down above. HOW TO BEAT: Run side to side to avoid the fireballs, and run around or block as the ceiling caves in. After it does, one block will remain. After dodging a fireball, pick up the block, dodge another, then aim and throw it at Anubis. He'll get into doggy position, at which time you can run up and whack him with your sword a few times. =============== WATER SERPENT - Underground Prison =============== ATTACKS: When he's close, he spits water blasts where you're standing, preceded by his neck wiggling rapidly. He follows these up with lunging bites. When far, he spits streams of venom at you, often targeted to where you're moving towards. And, though it's not really an attack, when hit he staggers back and knocks out part of the ring, causing you to have to jump across the gap to get by. HOW TO BEAT: First, get in close if he's far, dodging the poison gas shots. In close, jump when he spits water blasts at you, then start chopping in front of you, so that you hit him when he tries to bite. He takes about 5 hits to defeat. ======= HORUS - Vengeance of Magus ======= ATTACKS: Nothing too special, except for the flying. The pair will hover for a moment, then swoop past you, knocking you down if they can in the process, then they stand on the ground and attack you directly. HOW TO BEAT: Again, nothing too special. Block when they swoop in, or dodge by running to the side, and get whatever hits you can in while they're standing on the ground. If you can find a creative way to use the exploding pots around the perimeter, then kudos to you. ========== MINOTAUR - The Tomb ========== ATTACKS: Get too close and he'll swing his axe, either in a single overhead or sideways swipe, or in a furious combo. He periodically roars and stomps, sending out a shockwave (or 2 when his life is down to 1/2, or 3 when down to 1/4). Finally, after scratching his hoof on the ground, he will charge with his horns at you. HOW TO BEAT: Avoid all of his attacks, by not getting too close, by jumping over the shockwaves, and by running sideways when he charges. When he misses you after the latter, he'll be stuck in the wall, at which point you have the chance to get some hits in. Don't spend too long doing this, because he pulls himself out in a couple of moments. ======== SPHINX - Hunting Grounds of the Sphinx ======== ATTACKS: The Sphinx has no real direct attacks. Rather, it can summon a trio of catmen, create firebursts over the symbols on the ground if you jump over the wrong one, send a blast of wind that blows you to the back of the screen (but that doesn't hurt), and trigger a slew of fireballs shot from each statue on the sides of the arena. When its health reaches 1/4, it will also cause some area lightning blasts to randomly hit the arena floor if you don't stomp the right symbol fast enough. HOW TO BEAT: Run up to the front and look at the Sphinx. When it flashes a symbol over its head, stomp on the corresponding symbol on the ground at the edge. You will then be blown back to the back of the arena. Run past the fireballs one by one, then run up the path to the Sphinx and get a few hits in. Run back before the bridge to the Sphinx vanishes, then stomp on the correct symbol again. ====== APEP - Realm of the Snake God ====== ATTACKS: He wraps himself around one of the columns, summons giant snakes to attack you, and shoots fireballs at you continually. HOW TO BEAT: Hide behind another column to block the fireballs and eliminate the snakes when they come to you. Run up to Apep's column, dodging fireballs back and forth, and do a charge attack on the column (attack while running) to knock it over. Now you can attack Apep directly on the ground, taking off a quarter of his health. Repeat. When he's on the last column, do your best to avoid the fireballs, since there's nothing left to hide behind. =============== STATUE OF SET - Ritual of Set =============== ATTACKS: Spits fireballs at regular intervals. HOW TO BEAT: Stand to the left of the statue, hit it, and press against the wall when it fires, so that the fireballs are blocked by the archway around the statue. ======= MAGUS - Ritual of Set ======= ATTACKS: First, he summons Anubis warriors to assault you while he's protected in a wind shield. Once they're defeated, he throws an ice prison around you, then shoots a few fireballs at you. Then, his shield drops and he attacks you directly with his staff if you get close. If you take him on, he tends to dodge back and slam you down. Eventually, he brings his shield back up and summons more Anubis warriors. HOW TO BEAT: Beat the Anubis warriors by repeatedly doing jumping stomp attacks, running away a bit, then jumping back toward them and stomping again. Once they're gone, try to get the center structure between you and Magus when he traps you in the prison, and/or jump up and down so the fireballs' aim is off. Block the fireballs that fly true. When released, run up to Magus. Jump in and stomp, then use all light attacks to knock him around. When he dodges back, get out of the way, then stomp again and keep punching. ===== SET - Ritual of Set ===== ATTACKS: He stomps around at first, creating shockwaves with each step. Then, he shoots a few fireballs at you. After that, the twin snakes on his shoulders shoot continuous laser fire, sweeping back and forth. Then, he shoots a stun ball, and periodically fires fireballs as you try to stomp the floor discs. When his health is low, he will shoot random missile barrages instead of fireballs while you attempt to hit the discs. HOW TO BEAT: Run away until he stops to shoot fireballs, then dodge them by continuously moving and jumping erratically to send them off course. When he laughs, run in close before the snakes start their laser-fire, and stand between the streams, slowly walking left, right, left, then right, as the beams sweep back and forth. After this, run around the room, dodging the fireballs that shoot at regular intervals, and stomp on the lit-up floor discs around the room before the timer runs out. Once you do this and the discs are creating a ball over Set, move in close to him. When he gets knocked down, chop at the snakes on both shoulders from the sides, then hit Set's head directly a few times. When he gets up, run away, and restart it all. ******************************************************** -----================================================================----- ***** 7) CLOSING ***** -----================================================================----- ******************************************************** In terms of the game, at the end you make a new save file that records the number of times you've completed the game, and the total number of rubies obtained. In playing through the game again, you get to keep all strength and endurance enhancements obtained through power-ups, making you significantly more powerful. Any other enhancements after a first play-through, I have yet to discover. In terms of this guide, welcome to the end! I hope you were able to make good use of it. I am always open to contributions. At this point, there are still a couple of rubies missing in a few of the stages, so information on those would be greatly appreciated. Any contributions would of course be fully credited. Please direct all correspondence to: [syonyx_faqs at yahoo dot com]. This is my ninth full walkthrough. So far, I've written mostly for relatively obscure Sony Playstation games, and I am enjoying this new hobby. If you're interested, please check out my other guides at: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/35729.html I would like to thank all of my readers, but especially those who sent me some additional bits of info I was missing, like the gamecube control scheme and missing blood rubies. So thanks to Nick C., Mercury Ignis God, Laura, Jonny9, and Jo for your contributions. And at the risk of repeating myself: LEGAL INFO: This document is copyright (c) Marc Lalonde, a.k.a. Syonyx.
