Introduction ************* If this is your first time playing Nintendogs, than you're in luck. This guide tells you about the game and how to get started etc. If you have been playing Nintendogsfor a while and you just want to know some unlockables you are more than welcome to check. This guide has most of the stuff you need to know. If you want to know more or I just didn't add the things you want to know about, you are more than welcome to email me and ask me to tell you more about it or just to add it in. My email address will be at the bottom of the guide but if you want to email me please have a title about this topic Nintendogs on it or I will think it is junk mail or a virus. 2. Starting a New Life With Your Pup ******************************* After you have inserted the Nintendogs game and turned on your DS, you will come to a screen that says knock on door (knock on the door about 3 times and you will go inside). After you go inside, it will ask if you want to look at the puppies or go buy a dog. If you want to look at the puppies it will have 3 dogsthere for you to look and pet it. If you want to go ahead and start buying, touch the buy sign and click on the type of dog you want. Once you found the dog you want, it will have 3 dogsplaying outside. First you click on the dog you think you like and look at the nature of that dog at the bottom.(NOTE: All dogshave different natures.) Now if you don't like the nature of that dog, just go out to the home screen where you choose the type of dog and choose that same dog again and it will have the same type of dog you want, just different natures. Chihuahua & Friends: Chihuahua German Shepherd Boxer Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Yorkshire Terrier Shetland Sheepdog Dachshund & Friends: Dachshund Beagle Shih Tzu Siberian Husky Golden Retriever Pug Lab & Friends: Labrador Retriever Miniature Pinscher Toy Poodle Shiba Inu Miniature Schnauzer Pembroke Welsh Corgi Okay, now you got the dog you finally want. First you might want to play with it alittle to get it used to you and the house, then after he got used to you, it will be time to name him. Be sure when you call his name, say his name loud and clear. And also when you teach him his name, you will have to use the same voice you used teaching your dog. So think about how you want to call his name before teaching him. 3. Training Your Pup ****************** When you get your first dog no matter how many dogs you have or how long you played, your first thing is to teach the dog how to sit after you taught him his new name. I will have basic tricks to teach you and advanced tricks that will be abit harder. When ever you want to teach your dog a new trick, after you taught him how to do it, touch the light bulb on the to right corner. Then it will have a circle on top of your dog's head and when you see that say the name of that trick you just taught him. And when you say the name of the trick you want to teach your dog, say it clearly and use the same sound when you are trying to teach the dog that same trick. Sometimes when you say the trick, a red ? will appear. That means your dog didn't understand your command. If you see a blue ? it means that you confused him with another command he already knows. In other words, your dog is saying that the command sounded like one of the other commands you taught him. Then it will bark as if it understands and do the same thing for a few times. If it barks and sparkles around the neck it means it learned the trick. When I type the tricks down in the next paragraph, I will not write to tell you to touch the light bulb because I already have told you before. Basic Tricks: Sit: *** You pet your dog's head then slide your stylus down his head to make him sit. Shake: ****** Tell your dog to sit, then touch one of his paw and bring it up about half way. Lie Down: ********* Tell your dog to sit and (pet his head if you want telling him good job) then slide your stylus down his head and he should be in a laying down position. Roll Over: ********* Tell your dog to sit or lie down and slide your stylus horizontally to make it lay on his side. Then slide with your stylus up from his belly, then he should be on his back. That will be the trick roll over. Spin: ***** To teach your dog how to spin, first you hold his tail for a while then he should be running around in a circle. Jump: ***** Tell your dog to come and if your dog is really happy and energetic, he should be waging his tail. While waging his tail, as quickly as possible, touch the screen alittle bit above his head and the camera in the screen should be moved up and your dog will look up and jump. Beg: **** While your dog is standing, touch his belly to his neck with your stylus to make him beg. This trick is a bit hard for dogs to do. So if your dog is not yet obedient and loyal, he might not do the trick. Advanced Tricks: Fliping into the air from back: ************************* Okay this may not be a good name for the trick but you can think of something to call this trick. In order to do this, tell your dog to roll over and then tell him to jump. When you tell your dog to roll over, be sure you don't pet him or he will think the trick is over. Backflip: ******** First tell your dog to sit, then tell him to jump and he should do a backflip. And remember not to pet your dog after you told him to sit. Dancing: ******** Tell your dog to do the beg trick, then touch his paw and move it up so it will look like he is standing then let go of his paw and he should look like his is dancing. Breakdance: *********** This is one of the tricks I like. You tell your dog to roll over, but don't pet it after you told him to roll over, then tell him to spin. And he will look like he is doing a breakdance move. Bunny hop: ********** To do the bunny hop, tell your dog to do the dancing trick and then tell him to jump. Remember not to pet him. Handstand: ********** To do the handstand you tell your dog to lie down then beg. And once again don't pet him between the tricks you want him to do. Spin while standing: ***************** To spin while standing, tell your dog to do the beg trick then the spin trick, and he should do the trick. And don't pet him if you want him to do this trick. 4. Walking Your Pup: ****************** Walking your puppy is really easy. First touch the go out screen, then touch the one that says walk and it has a dog picture on it. Then choose the dog you want to walk. After you did that, you will go to a screen where there will be a map and a paintbrush there. You touch the paintbrush and drag it where ever you want to go and your route must always lead you back to your house. On the bottom left coner, you will see a little dog there with a bar. That is your puppy's stamina. Your puppy can walk only as far as its stamina will allow, but the more you walk your dog, the more your dog's stamina will grow. Remember whenever your you see your dog poop, make sure to pick it up and it is really easy to pick them up, just touch it! When you are drawing your route, you will see a boxed ?. Those are suprises, they can be a dog you will meet or a present your dog will bring to you. While you are walking your dog, there are parks, shops, and gymnasium you can go to. You can go to the gymnasium to pratice for agility trials and parks you can practice for disc competitions or play with other puppies. If you want to play with other puppies in the park go to the park where you see dog pictures barking. And you can go to the discount shops to buy supplies for a lower price than the one at the pet supply store. 5. Shops: ******** There are 2 different kinds of shops in this game. One the pet supply shop, the other the discount shop. There is not a real difference of what they sell in the shops, it's only the price that is different. In the pet supply shop, touch the go out sign then touch the shop sign and you will see a little dog bone inside a box, that is the pet supply shop. To go to the discount shop, take one of your dog and go out and walk. While you are drawing your route, you will see the same looking picture (a bone on top of a building) there, when you go in there you will see the exact same things in the pet supply shop eccept they are cheaper. When you have a lot of useless junk in your supplies list, go to the secondhand shop to sell your useless junk. To go to the secondhand shop, touch the go out screen and touch the secondhand shop. 6. Kennels, Interior Decorator, and Dog Hotel: ************************************** To go the these places, touch the go out sign then touch the shop sign. Kennels: ******** The kennel is the place where you can buy puppies. Interior Decorator: **************** This place is where you can go and choose a new décor for you home. Dog Hotel: ********** This is the place where you can leave your dogs here if you have more than 3 dogs. There will be four different things you can choose from. Drop Off: You can choose this when you want the dog hotel to take care of your dogs. You can leave up to five dogs there. Pick Up: You can choose this if you want to pick up one of your dogs. But if you already have 3 dogs in your house, you should swap one of your dogs at home for a dog the dog hotel is taking care of. Swap: Choose this if you want to take a puppy out of the dog hotel and replace it with one of the puppies in your home. Donate: Choose this if you don't want one of you puppies. But remember that once you donate one of your puppy, the dog hotel will find a new trainer for the puppy and you will never see your puppy again. 7. Contests: ********** Touch the go out sign and touch the sign that says contest. You will have 3 different things to choose from, disc competition, agility trial, and obedience trial. Disc Competitions: Disc competitions is a competition to see how many points your puppy can get by catching disc you have thrown within the time limit. Your dog can earn one extra point for catching the disc in midair. But if you want your dog to win in the disc competition, you will want to train him in the park first. You should try to throw the disc striaght or your dog has more chance of dropping the disc. To throw the disc, slide your stlyus and your dog will chase it. Agility Trial: This is a competition where your dog must make their way through the obstacle course. The overhead map will show you the order to clear the obstacles. You will need to guide your dog to clear the course. Each time your dog missed an obstacle, 5 points will be deducted from your score and 1 point will be deducted for each second your dog exceeds the standard time. Your point deductions for both obstacles and time will be added together to form your score. In case of a tie, the dog that cleared the course faster will be the winner. To go through hurdles, you can touch the hurdle twice to get your dog to go over it or you can touch and drag your stylus over the hurdle to get your dog to jump over it. To go through tunnels, touch the entrance of the tunnel to get your dog to go in. After your dog goes in, tap the exit to guide your dog out. To get your dog on the seesaw, touch the lower side of the seesaw to get your dog on it. Then when your dog is on the seesaw, touch the far side to get your dog to go there. Touch behind your dog to keep your dog form falling off the seesaw or it will be a point deduction. Touch the first slalom pole to get your dog to start walking through it. Then when your dog starts to walk through it, slide between each pole in a zigzag to guide your dog through. Obedience Trial: This is the event to show off how well you trained your dog. In this contest, your dog must perform the specific commands within the time limit. After they tell you to do a specific command, you are given a period of free performance. After the contest, your scores will be determined by 3 judges and a perfect score being a 10. The judges score will be based on the performance and how well you did on the grooming. Unlockables (for all versions): ***************************** These unlockables work for all games. In here I don't have many unlockables yet but I'll put more as soon as I found more. Going out to walk again without waiting: To do this, first have an accessory on your dog then take your dog out to walk and go through as much boxed ? as posible. Then draw the route to the park and then draw the route back home. Once you have finished going through all the boxed ? and going to the park, once you are at the park change the accessory on your dog to a different one and your game will save. After your game save turn off your DS and turn it on again and you can go walking with the same dog without waiting and have all the presents you got during you last walk. Lightbulbs: When you are teaching your dog, the lightbulb will show up saying he understands. You can grab that lightbulb and feed it to your dog. Treats: Sometimes when you are petting your pet you see a little yellow bone light up, you can grab that and feed it to your dog. Dalmation: Find the Fireman's Hat during a walk.
