It continues on from the cliffhanger of Need For Speed Most Wanted, in where Sergeant Cross raises your "wanted" status to nationwide, and there that game ends and Carbon picks up. But more of that later. The game brings a new face to customization with the all-new Autosculpt feature, in where you can endlessly sculpt different aspects of your bumpers, side skirts etc. Drifting is back as well, with an all-new mechanism that is neither heaven nor hell. Probably the best thing EA have done with this game is the introduction of classic muscle cars, including the 1967 Shelby GT500 and the 1970's Dodge Charger R/T. The game also features new Car Classes, in which the different classes handle COMPLETELY different from each other - a HUGE improvement from Most Wanted (I.E. a Ford Mustang in MW would handle just like a Carerra GT). ======================================================== 2.------------GETTING STARTED (NFSC006)----------------- ======================================================== Well, first things first. You can't start a game without knowing the controls. Even though they ARE in the booklet that comes with the game, this is for the few who don't bother with the booklet. ======================================================== 2.1 - Controls --------------------------------(NFSC007) ======================================================== These are the default controls. But you can change them in the Pause Menu under "options". X - Accelerate Square - Brake/Reverse Circle - Look Back Triangle - Activate Crew Member R1 - Handbrake R2 - Shift Up L2 - Shift Down L1 - Nitrous Left - World Map Right - Inbox Up - Enter shop/Accept Rival crew challenge Left Analog stick - Steer Right Analog Stick - Throttle control (accelerate, brake etc) R3 - Speedbreaker L3 - Not used Down - Not used ========================================================= 3.----------------THE GAME (NFSC008)--------------------- ========================================================= Finally, the interesting bit, you say. I apologise if the above was a bit boring but I'm sure that you can make SOME use of it later. Anyways, this chapter will highlight the main points of the game such as the game modes and the new race modes. The new system that is Autosculpt will also be explained here as will the new Car Classes and Tiers. ========================================================= 3.1 - Game Modes -------------------------------(NFSC009) ========================================================= There are several game modes to NFS Carbon. The main one, Career, is now more focused and more intense than any of its NFS ancestors, and this one delivers the most thrill. It is still narrated through the ever so weird FMV which is half-animated, half filmed. It has a more glamorous touch to it than in MW but the acting is as bad as MW, if not worse. Everyone has their own opinion on it. You've just read mine there. =D My Cars is still there, but to be fair there's no REAL gaming in it except for free-for-all customization. It is, unlike MW, FUN this year thanks to its revolutionary Autosculpt technology and a VERY extended visual selection in where you can TRULY make a ride of your own. Quick Race is still there, featuring the all new race modes like Canyon Drift etc (see below) and some cars unlocked in the game are exclusive to Quick Race only (like the Murcielago LP640). A new section has been added - the Reward Cards. It's not really a "gaming" section; it's more of an extra Challenge Series. Each card has 4 sections. In each section you must complete a specific challenge to get that section highlighted (like beat 500,000 in a drift event). Once all 4 sections are highlighted of that card, you get a reward, like a car or a customizable piece (spoilers, rims, hoods etc). Hence the name: Reward Cards. There are 25 reward cards in total, and there are 100 challenges. Challenge Series makes a comeback from MW and is more challenging than last. It's a bit different now, because there's now one race mode with different difficulties. For example, there's a drift challenge. There are 3 sections in it - Bronze, Silver, Gold. Each difficulty has a separate target, like bronze requires you to get 20,000, silver: 30,000 etc. You need to complete bronze to unlock silver, silver to unlock gold. Once you complete gold, you get a reward like a car or a special type of paint or something else special. There are 20 or so different race modes each with 3 difficulties. Online makes a return and is exclusive to next-gen console owners. This includes the Wii, the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Its quite simple this time around. You go to the Challenge Series, and select an event. Now choose whether the event you want to do is solo (helps with the progress of your game profile) or online. From there, if you selected online, you follow the on-screen prompts to either set up a race "group" or join one. You can also determine the race to be private or public. Up to 15 players can race in a single race - like Pursuit Knockout or Pursuit Tag, in where the more players there are the better. ========================================================== 3.2 - The Cars ----------------------------------(NFSC010) ========================================================== This installment has to be the greatest in the NFS series solely because of the vast amount of cars, including the introduction of classic Muscles. Here are ALL the cars in the game: Alfa Romeo Brera Aston Martin DB9 Audi Le Mans Quattro BMW M3 GTR Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 Chevrolet Chevelle SS ('71) Chevrolet Camaro SS ('69) Chevrolet Camaro Concept Chrysler 300C HEMI SRT8 Dodge Challenger R/T('71) Dodge Challenger Concept Dodge Viper SRT10 Dodge Charger SRT8 Dodge Charger R/T ('69) Ford GT Ford Mustang GT Ford Shelby GT500 ('67) Ford Shelby GT500 ('07) Jaguar XKR ('07) Koenigsegg CCX Lamborghini Gallardo Lamborghini Murcielago Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Lexus IS300 Lotus Elise Lotus Europa S Mazda MPS Speed 3 Mazda RX-7 Mazda RX-8 Mercedes-Mclaren SLR Mercedes CLK500 Mercedes SL65 AMG Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX ('99) Mitsubishi Eclipse GT ('06) Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR ('07) Nissan 240SX Nissan 350Z Nissan Skyline GTR R34 Pagani Zonda F Plymouth HEMI Barracuda ('69) Plymouth Roadrunner ('64) Porsche Carrera GT Porsche Cayman S Porsche GT3RS Renault Clio V6 Subaru Impreza WRX STI ('07) Toyota Supra Toyota Corolla GT-S AE86 ('86) Vauxhall Monaro VXR Volkswagen Golf mk5 R32 Car Count: 51 MW car count: 36 ---------------------------------------------------------- 3.2.1. - Car Classes + Tiers (NFSC011) ---------------------------------------------------------- NFS Carbon brings into the series a new system of car classes and car tiers. There are 3 classes and three tiers. Ergo there are 9 total categories. They are: Classes: Tiers: Muscles Tier 1 (starters, cheap, not that fast) Exotics Tier 2 (medium-paced, reasonably priced) Tuners Tier 3 (high-end, super-fast, super-expensive) ALL the categories: Muscles Tier 1 Muscles Tier 2 Muscles Tier 3 Muscles are of a reasonable price in all tiers. They are for those with hearts of steel, and for those who are all for straight line acceleration and not so much for the corners. It's easy to get the tail out in these things and that can be quite hazardous in extreme situations like trying to retake the lead after being passed on a canyon 'cos you lose serious time trying to recover from the powerslide, so all in all you better watch out! Exotics Tier 1 Exotics Tier 2 Exotics Tier 3 Exotics are not for the faint of heart and are for the racing purists who live for top speed. They are the most expensive of all the tiers but every exotic delivers that adrenaline rush and certainly makes your money spent worthwhile. If you have what it takes to balance the car and brakes through a perfect apex then the car can do the rest. Tuners Tier 1 Tuners Tier 2 Tuners Tier 3 Those who take the way of the tuner are those who like to live life by the edge. They are the cheapest of the three tiers and also pack the most grip. If you like to keep your car mint, then this the ideal choice for you. What tuners give up on the straights, they more than make up for on the corners. Holding on by the fingernails is where the Tuners LIVE. The Cars: Muscles Tier 1: Chevrolet Camaro SS ('69) Chrysler 300C HEMI SRT8 Muscles Tier 2: Chevrolet Chevelle SS ('71) Dodge Charger R/T ('69) Dodge Charger SRT8 Ford Mustang GT Plymouth Roadrunner ('64) Vauxhall Monaro VXR Muscles Tier 3: Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 Chevrolet Camaro Concept Dodge Challenger R/T ('71) Dodge Challenger Concept Dodge Viper SRT10 Ford Shelby GT500 ('67) Ford Shelby GT500 ('07) Plymouth HEMI Barracuda ('69) Exotics Tier 1: Alfa Romeo Brera Mercedes CLK500 Exotics Tier 2: Aston Martin DB9 Lotus Elise Lotus Europa S Mercedes SL65 AMG Porsche Cayman S Exotics Tier 3: Audi Le Mans Quattro BMW M3 GTR Ford GT Jaguar XKR ('07) Koenigsegg CCX Lamborghini Gallargo Lamborghini Murcielago Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Mercedes-Mclaren SLR Pagani Zonda F Porsche Carrera GT Porsche GT3RS Tuners Tier 1: Mazda RX-8 Mazda MPS Speed 3 Nissan 240SX Tuners Tier 2: Lexus IS-300 Mazda RX-7 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX ('99) Mitsubishi Eclipse GT ('06) Renault Clio V6 Toyota Corolla GT-S AE86 ('06) Volkswagen Golf mk5 R32 Tuners Tier 3: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR ('07) Nissan 350Z Nissan Skyline GTR R34 Subaru Impreza WRX STI ('07) Toyota Supra ========================================================== 3.3 - Race Modes --------------------------------(NFSC012) ========================================================== Circuit, Sprint and Speedtrap all make a return from MW as does Tollbooth (now renamed to "checkpoint"). But there are some new modes as well: Drift - This is not really "new" as it was featured in NFS Underground 2 but it is brand new in the sense that it features an all-new mechanism to drifting that turns out to be more realistic than you would think. But more of that later. =D Canyon Drift - Same as drifting, but this time in the canyons where it is a LOT harder. The narrow walls and the jutting rocks mean that each canyon drift is definitely no walk in the park. Potential DKs find themselves here. This mode definitely pushes your skills to the max. Canyon Duel - Basically a mano e mano sort of thing. One on one. One Canyon. One Duel. One winner. The duel is split into 2 rounds - first round you're following the opponent. The closer you stick to them, the better you'll do (more points scored). The second round is where the opponent follows YOU, and you have to pull away before they outscore you. Your points start to count down as the race continues, with the amount of points decreased per second completely dependant on how close your opponent is. This all sounds very complicated, but the best way to find out is to actually do the damn thing by yourself. =D Canyon Sprint - One Canyon. One race. 4 opponents. One winner. This is basically a sprint race with a twist. Whats the twist? It's down a canyon!! =D Well done for figuring that out. So thats all there is to it. Point A to point B down a canyon. Simple. Canyon Checkpoint - This mode is only available in the challenge series. But it is basically a checkpoint race down a mountain. The name says it all. Crew Challenges - Career mode only. When in free roam, you will eventually get challenged by a rival crew member when you're on their turf. If you accept their challenge, it's a mano e mano sprint race to a specific finish line (which is chosen by you while accepting their challenge). You win and you get 1000 cash. Lose and your rep gets sullied. Again, theres nothing really to it. Its all a get-up-and-go thing. Pursuit Knockout - Online only. This is exactly the same as Lap Knockout from NFS MW last year. The twist this year is that the last person player of each lap, instead of being knocked out, turns into a cop. And they are scored upon how much mayhem they can cause between the players still racing. Once there's only one racer left, and the others are all cops, the player has to do 2 more laps with the other cops trying to bust him. If he is successful, then he posts a score to the leaderboard. If he gets busted, then the cops win and he doesn't post a score to the leaderboard. Pursuit Tag - Online only. This is a free-for-all brawl around the whole of Palmont City. Up to 15 players can participate. The whole idea is that there is one racer who is trying to evade the cops. The player cops have to try and bust him. Once the suspect gets busted, its another players shot to be the suspect and the previous suspect turns into a cop. Everyone gets a shot to be the suspect. Once all the players have been the suspect once, the race ends. The player who remained the suspect longest wins. City Drift - Online only. Basically drifting around the city. The multiplier only goes up to 10x and there is a combination of uphill and downhill curves and straights. It all depends on the track. You get 2 laps to acheive a score. Unlike drift tracks, and like canyon drifts, you can endlessly obtain points providing that you don't hit the walls. There are no drift sections like on the drift tracks. Also, it aint easy. ========================================================== 3.4 - Customization + Autosculpt ----------------(NFSC013) ========================================================== As aforementioned, Carbon uses a whole different customization system that has not yet been used in the NFS series. Customization has now been split into 4 sections - Performance, Autosculpt, Aftermarket and Visual. Performance - This is where you can choose modifications to increase your car's power and speed. Each modification has its own set of settings and you can play around with them to create your own unique car in terms of performance. Autosculpt - This is where you can choose different parts of the car to be sculpted (like front bumpers, spoilers etc) and, well, sculpt them. Each section has different regions to be sculpted. For example tires have 9 regions and you can determine the lip of the alloy and also determine the tire width. The other 7 or so regions determine the shape/design of the alloy rim itself. Its a great tool to play around with. I love it. Aftermarket - This is where you can select pre-fabricated parts for your ride. For example you can purchase ready-made body kits and carbon fibre hoods as well as a whole variety of rims. This is Most Wanted's Body section.... extended. In MW the Carrera GT only had 2 body kits available. Now it has 4. Every aspect of customization has been changed and heightened. So its safe to say that customization is NOT the same. =D Visual - This is where you can choose the VISUAL appearence of the car. No brains required for that. =D The paint section now has an unlimited amount of paint, its hard to describe - you're just gonna have to see for yourself. For those who know Juiced and Midnight Club 3, the paint scheme is now extremely similar to it. A new section has replaced gauges - Ride Height control. Here you can drop your car up to 100% lower than it already was. The rest is pretty much the same - except that the wheel colour as well has an unlimited amount of variations like the paint scheme. Also there are more vinyls, but you're gonna have to find them out the hard way. =D ========================================================== 4.----------CAREER WALKTHROUGH (NFSC014)------------------ ========================================================== Finally, the part where MOST people could use help on. This section will go back to basics - from the initial storyline all the way through to the final Boss race. Hopefully this section will summarize up all your queries relating to the career mode. If not then just look under FAQs =D. 0 =========================================================== 4.1 - The Story-----------------------------------(NFSC015) =========================================================== I'm just going to go straight to it, really. Present Day. Carbon Canyon. You return to your long-lost city of Palmont. You have completely ditched Rockport and all that occurred there is now ancient history. The only thing that remains of the ordeals of Rockport is your flash, fast BMW M3 GTR. 5 years ago, a race of high stakes occurred. Those high stakes were territory and money. Nikki was your girlfriend at that time and she is the carrier of the bag with all the money. Darius lends you his Supra for the race. You get involved in a race with the leading three crew leaders of Palmont - Kenji, Wolf and Angie. As you round the final corner in the lead, three electrically charged lasers shoot out of nowhere and hit 3 cars except one; yours. These lasers shut down the opponents' cars. Moments later you realize the cops have interfered. All hell breaks loose. Nikki could not make it to safety in time and dumps the bag in your car. You then proceed to escape through an alley that was momentarily unguarded by a 300C, and then guarded again (weird....). You flee the scene, and the city, on Darius's orders. Yet somehow, the bag given to you was full of junk, not money. Supposedly something happened during that time when all hell broke loose (more onthat later). Now you come back to rightfully claim what's yours and to find out just what the hell happened that night you left. As you cruise Carbon Canyon, you encounter another "remain" of your ordeals of Rockport - Sergeant Cross. He drives a Corvette Z06, and was the scourge of the Rockport PD. In Carbon he is now a bounty hunter, after losing his job at Rockport PD, and collects long-standing bounties to cash in to the police. He comes up behind you and cheaply smacks into you without any warning. A short FMV clip shows his face and it says: "Hey. Guess who's back." From here you are given control of the BMW and you have to outrun Cross on Carbon Canyon. You don't, however. You drive straight into a construction site on the canyon and almost smash into a rig with poles on it. You narrowly dodge it, but not without giving the rig a nudge - which was enough to knock the poles off the rig and straight onto the BMW's roof. Cross closes in and the scene cuts to a FMV clip. Luckily your long-time friend, Darius, arrives in time to save you from a sticky situation. Such is the high level of respect of this guy that he can assert authority over even the highest ranked person. He basically tells Cross to bugger off, in which he does. Nikki appears now, with her ever-so awesome Ford GT. She doesn't seemed to pleased to see you. Darius says that you owe a serious debt to him, over the Supra "given" to you and the escape of the wrath of Cross. He tells Nikki to "show you the ropes". She doesn't exactly relish the idea, but reluctantly agrees to it. Now you are driven to Palmont, where three cars await you - an Alfa Romeo Brera, a Mazda RX-8 and a Chevrolet Camaro SS ('69). These cars represent the different classes - (in order) Exotics, Tuners and Muscles. The car you select here will determine the cars and parts unlocked throughout the course of the game. After being "shown the ropes", you are now well on your way. You will either start in Fortuna, Downtown or Kempton depending on your car class. And thus, you are thrown into the world that is Need For Speed: Carbon. ========================================================== 4.2 - Career Starters ---------------------------(NFSC016) ========================================================== As stated earlier, there are three starters to represent the three classes. All of them are tier 1 cars. Different classes start in different cities (marked with a *). They are: Exotics:- Tuners:- Muscles:- Alfa Romeo Brera Mazda RX-8 Chevrolet Camaro SS ('69) Fortuna* Downtown* Kempton* The car class you choose will determine the cars and parts you will unlock. For example if you choose Muscles you will unlock Superchargers, not Turbos; you unlock Turbos in Exotics and Tuners. Also if you take, for example, exotics, you will unlock ALL the exotics and only the majority of Muscles and Tuners. There will still be a wide selction though. These are the cars that are exclusive to their own class (meaning you can only unlock them if you started with the class they are in): Exotics:- Tuners:- Muscles:- Mercedes SL65 AMG Volkswagen Golf mk5 R32 Dodge Charger SRT8 Porsche Carrera GT Nissan Skyline R34 Ford Shelby GT500 ('67) ========================================================== 4.3 - Starting off....---------------------------(NFSC017) ========================================================== After your car/class selection, you will be thrown into a sort of tutorial with Nikki and Neville (whom you meet just before the car selection). Nikki explains the three types of crew members and how to activate/use them. Your wingmen play a major part in the completion of this game and you WILL need them. There are basically three different skills you're gonna see in Palmont - some guys are blockers, others are drafters and there's scouts. Blockers - Okay, well blockers are like cruise missles on the road. They don't mind smashing their ride in order to take the opposition out. You activate them, and you better hope the opposition say their prayers. Drafters - They're speed demons. You gotta get in behind them when activated, and you'll see a blue stream flow off the back of their car. Get in these streams, and you'll gain a boost of speed. Once you deactivate them you'll slingshot outta the stream at 20-30mph more than you were doing when you were in behind them. Its all vague here, you're just gonna have to do it to fully understand it. Scouts - These guys are like having eyes everywhere. As soon as the race starts they'll scout out any back alley, shortcut or any route that saves you time. They jump you at the start of the race, and basically try to make your life easier by helping you out. You wanna keep in mind that your wingmen will only work for a limited period of time (see the crew bar on the top left of the screen). Once they're drained, they'll stop helping out. This goes for Blockers and Drafters, but scouts are pretty much working for you all the time. Remember - wingmen are like NOS; you use them too early in the race and they won't be there when you need them most. So BE CAREFUL. ========================================================== 4.4 - The Walkthrough ---------------------------(NFSC018) ========================================================== Here we go. The main focus of this FAQ. After being shown the ropes, Nikki ditches you and Neville and you guys decide to "find some trouble". On the motorway, you guys are noticed to be excessively speeding by the 5-0. He chases after you, calling in some backup. Neville takes out 2 cop cars and takes with him most of the heat. He leaves you, and you are given control of your starter car. And thus NFS Carbon begins. ^^ Firstly, you need to get rid of these guys. There are only three left. My advice to you would be to smash them against the walls or brake suddenly so they smash into you. These tactics WILL kill them, so it should be a piece of cake. Afterwards, having successfully evaded the cops, Neville will give you a call with the co-ordinates to a safe house, and you must proceed there. After the short video clip shown upon arrival (not gonna go into much detail) you come up to a screen saying that Neville has joined your crew. Set him as active, and you will be taken to the crew name selection screen. Choose a name, and you will be taken to the crew logos screen. Choose a logo, set your colours, and the screen/scene will cut to a FMV explaining Crews and Territory. ---------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.1 - Territory (NFSC019) ---------------------------------------------------------- When you look at the map of Palmont, you'll see that the city is divided between 4 main crews - Wolf's TFK, Kenji's Bushido, Angie's 21st Street Crew and Darius's Stacked Deck. There are minor crews trying to push forward (more detail below) but they are continuously being suppressed by the major crews. Where do you fit? Nowhere. You gotta make yourself known if you wanna belong somewhere. And that all depends on your starter class. You choose exotics and your name had better be known across Fortuna. Where you strike next is entirely your decision but what IS known is that you will face Darius in an all-out war for total street supremacy. He WILL be the 4th and final boss. To get to him, however, you need to build up your rep through territory. Each area of the city is usually divided up into 5 or 6 sections. You must conquer each section before taking on the boss. Only when you have defeated the boss can you safely say that you rule the area. Once you conquer all 4 areas, you win! But it takes some doing. ---------------------------------------------------------- 4.4.2 - Crews (NFSC020) ---------------------------------------------------------- As mentioned before, there are 4 major crews: Crew Name Crew Leader (Boss) City "owned" Car class ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - ~~~~~~~~~~~ Bushido - Run by Kenji (green territory) - Downtown - Tuners TFK - Run by Wolf (blue territory) - Fortuna - Exotics 21st Street Crew - Run by Angie (orange territory) - Kempton - Muscles Stacked Deck - Run by Darius (red territory) - Silverton - Mixed There are some minor crews, though, who will try to take over your territory: Crew Name Car Class ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Black Hearts - Exotics Kings - Exotics Los Colibros - Muscles Inferno - Muscles Scorpios - Tuners Rotor 4 - Tuners None of the crew leaders' names are known as there is no real"boss battle" between you and them for territory. They just annoy you. ========================================================== Back to the Walkthrough....------------------------------- ========================================================== Now, after the brief intro FMV, you will be taken to the World Map. You must select a race to progress through the game. I cant really help you with the races, apart from me saying: "Do it." =D So basically you need to complete all the races, conquering section by section, until you reach the boss. Note that you will gain money to customize your car, and it is imperative that you soupe up the performance of the car first. If you dont do that, you won't beat the boss. Simple. Now, the bosses. Here is how you defeat all three of them. You can just look up which boss you're on and read the description for them. I will state their disadvantages and how to exploit them and turn the tide right back into your favour: Kenji - In the city, he's quite keen on braking whenever unnecessary so pounce on him whenever he does so, or just continue to ignore him and extend your lead, depending what position you're in. In the canyon, he is clearly unfamiliar with the route and tends to OVER-BRAKE and BRAKE TOO LATE. Those are his main weaknesses. I advise you to become familiar with the canyon route and find your own line through the canyon, and not follow his. Many people fall off canyons trying to follow their opponent's line and not trying to finds their own. Wolf - This guy clearly doesn't know how to drive. Don't let his looks or car intimidate you - he's all show and no go. This is not as obvious in the city, as he DOES try quite hard. Build up an early lead and take all the shortcuts. Then smash into any potential pursuit breakers and you'll nail him. On the Canyon, he absolutely sucks at everything. Period. There's no need for advice here but to familiarise yourself with the track and jump him three or four corners in. And BAM! You're done. =D Angie - In the city, she's arguably the best. Since Kempton comprises mainly of straights, coupled with the fact that she has the best tier 2 muscle, beating Angie is definitely no cake-walk. My advice would be to push through the turns at full throttle and take EVERY shortcut. Hit potential pursuit breakers, and use NOS coming outta the turns. On the canyon, its obvious what her weakness is. Here's a hint - the words "muscle car", "canyon" and "fast" REALLY don't work. So exploit her handling weakness by full throttle coming in and out of the corners. When you defeat each boss, one of their crew will ask to join your crew. When you go to meet them, they each tell you that they were there on "that night" with the high-stakes race. They reveal an intruiging part of the night: Yumi (from Kenji's crew) - She reveals that she saw you round the last corner. She also heard the police chatter on the radio, and saw them deliberately hit, with the lasers mentioned before, the three cars except yours. The police chatter was saying not to hit your Supra, but the other three cars. She realized that somebody interfered in a big way, but it was unknown who was that "somebody". Colin (from Wolf's crew) - He reveals the story of the bag. Among the chaos, a guy knocks Nikki down. He carried a bag identical to Nikki's, except it was full of junk, not money. He switches the bags, and runs off. This explains why you got the junk and not the money. Samson (from Angie's crew) - The story of the guarded alley is revealed. When fleeing, the 300C moves outta the way, lets you go, and then shuts it up. When the guy driving got out, Samson noticed he had a badge on his belt. Meaning that somebody (again) interfered in a big way... but who? After the first boss you defeat, whoever that is, the tier 2 "world" will be unlocked. Here everything happens a notch faster and LOADS more exciting. And money is an issue here, too. Everything, from mods to cars is a notch more expensive. But not significantly so. After the third boss, you enter the tier 3 "world" and will face your one-time friend and now arch-enemy - Darius. ========================================================== 4.5 - Darius ------------------------------------(NFSC021) ========================================================== After the defeat of the third boss, Darius will call you. "You did NOT disappoint. Now we got the whole city locked up. That deserves a reward. Lets meet by the old courthouse." And so you do. Upon arrival, the scene will cut to a FMV clip. Darius states that you've finally figured whats up and what happened that night. He starts saying that you're becoming greedy and that this alliance between you and him would not sit well with you having more territory than him. He fears you'll take him down, so he hands you over to Cross (who's been sitting quietly in his Z06 in the background all this time). Nikki arrives. Darius goes up to her and tells her to take your ride back to his place, and that "show's over". What Darius doesn't know is that Nikki made a deal with Cross - for him to refrain from hunting you down in exchange for Nikki joining your crew and a fair share of money. Nikki gets you up, and explains that the crew members' stories check out. "Somebody tipped off the cops. Somebody let you escape. And somebody switched the bag. Now I know who that somebody was." That's right - the Somebody was DARIUS. That sneaky bastard was running you all this time, and you just went with his flow. Now you know, and now it seems that the theme of REVENGE takes over the remainder of the game. And thus you throw yourself into Silverton and the Tier 3 world, armed with Nikki as your new crew member. Firstly, you need to unlock the tier 3s. I would start off by winning the central area of Silverton, which only has 2 races, and one of them is a checkpoint race. It should be realtively easy. Buy the car, do it up and start the hard part. I cant really give any advice except for you to do it. I can give you a warning - it will be hard. =D When you reach the boss race, you will get an angry message from Kenji, Angie and Wolf. They want some payback after you disrespected them on their own turf. You gotta go through them and their new rides first, before you take on Darius. To quote them "There's no need for Darius to soil his hands!" Wolf now rides in a Murcielago, Angie in a Challenger Concept and Kenji in an Evolution IX MR. Firstly, the canyon. Its gonna be a straight-forward Canyon Sprint against the three of them. Its quite easy, all you gotta do is jump them at the beginning and block them out for the rest of the race. Next up, the city race. This take place in all four parts of the city - you start off in the relatively all- rounded streets of Fortuna and from there you blast through Kempton, snake your way around Downtown and then finally roll through Silverton to the finish line. Now the former leaders of the other areas of the city finally get message - that you mean business. They bugger off and leave you to face Darius. Darius has one mean motor scooter =D . He drives the Audi Le Mans Quattro. Quattro meaning 4-wheel drive. This should be fun.... The imperative thing is to jump him at the start with a perfect shift and NOS. Darius has NO WEAKNESS. Which is why he is the boss - no-one has the potential to take him down. You need to use every shortcut on the track and use NOS out of every hairpin. And with these tactics you should win. The canyon is where you must maximize your true potential. His 4wd means he can round leave the corners faster than he can enter them. You have to do your best to keep up. There are a few turns where he loses speed and concentration, so you must be aware of every aspect of the duel all the time. Also a common mistake is following the opponent's line. I would recommend finding your own line but since Darius is so good, following his line is actually not a bad idea - it might be faster than your own line. A good score to beat Darius is around 140,000 points. Now its your turn. You have to find your own line through the corners, and fast. If you dont find it within the first few corners, then Darius is gonna play fender-tag with you and eventually push past you. Whereas you have to be aware of every aspect of the battle when following him, you must now BLOCK OUT every aspect of the battle now. Your concentration must be on the road now, and nothing else, 100% of the time. If you do this then you will definitely win. However if you slip up even ONCE, it doesnt matter how far behind he is, he will pounce on you and end the duel before you can say "oops". And BAM!!! You have now beaten NFS Carbon! ========================================================== 4.6 - The End? ----------------------------------(NFSC022) ========================================================== After you beat Darius, the scene will cut to an FMW clip. Darius comes up to Nikki. "The keys [of the Audi] are in the car." Now he turns to you, with a bitter attitude. "Enjoy it while it lasts. There's always someone out there that's faster than you are. And sooner or later they're gonna catch up." And with a final glance at Nikki, he turns around and gets into the Stacked Deck Jaguar thats just pulled up and drives off, out of the city. --------------------------The End------------------------- Or is it? Darius's last statement created a cliffhanger... maybe there will be a NFS Carbon 2? I seriously doubt the city will change as where is there to go from here? But then again I said the same thing about NFS Underground 2 and look what happened. So who am I to judge? Maybe EA will leave the NFS series there, maybe they won't. It seems impossible to tell, despite the speculation of a sequel. We'll just have to wait and see. ========================================================== 5.---------------THE REWARD CARDS (NFSC023)--------------- ========================================================== As stated earlier, a the Reward Cards are like a separate challenge series. There are 25 cards to be obtained. And each card has 4 sections to it - 4 separate challenges. Meaning there are a total of 100 challenges. Don't fret though, about half of these aren't exactly challenging, like unlocking 8 cars for career or use speedbreaker once. But there are more challenging ones like get $1 million in Career mode or get a score of 500,000 or over in a drift event. I will help you with those, which is what this section is about. ========================================================== 5.1 - Introduction of RC's ----------------------(NFSC024) ========================================================== What you need to know about the Reward Cards (RCs): - There are 25 reward cards - Each card has 4 separate parts, so effectively there are 100 parts/challenges - When all 4 parts are complete from the card, you will get a reward - A majority of the rewards can be used in career - A minority are only available in quick race (i.e. the Murcielago LP640) Here is a list of the Reward Cards: 1. - American Racing Torq-Thrust ST - Rim (wheel) 2. - TSW Laguna - Rim 3. - Work Euroline FE - Rim 4. - HRE 549R - Rim 5*. - Chevrolet Chevelle SS ('71) - Car (Muscle, Tier 2) 6. - Giovanna Ararat - Rim 7. - Slingshot Autosculpt - Spoiler 8*. - Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 - Car (Exotic, Tier 3) 9. - Slingshot Autosculpt CF (Carbon Fibre) - Spoiler 10. - Specter Autosclupt - Spoiler 11. - Specter Autosculpt CF - Spoiler 12. - Mystic Autosculpt - Spoiler 13. - Dragon Vinyl - Vinyl 14. - Skeleton Vinyl - Vinyl 15. - Jaguar Vinyl - Vinyl 16*.- Police Civic Cruiser (Heat lvl. 1) - Car (Tuner, Tier 3) 17*.- Police Interceptor (Heat lvl. 5) - Car (Muscle, Tier 3) 18*.- Police Rhino (Heat #3,4,5) - Car (Muscle, Tier 0) 19*.- Cross Corvette ZO6 - Car (Muscle, Tier 3) 20*.- Dumptruck - Car??? 21. - Mystic Autosculpt CF - Spoiler 22. - Carbon ST-5 Autosculpt Rims - Rim 23*.- Mitsubishi Eclipse ('99) - Car (Tuner, Tier 2) 24*.- Firetruck - Car??? 25*.- BMW M3 GTR - Car (Exotic, Tier 3) * - Available in Quick Race only ========================================================== 5.2 - Getting $1 mil ----------------------------(NFSC025) ========================================================== This is quite tricky, but not impossible. If you follow my advice then there should be no reason why this cannot be acheived. Firstly, start a profile. You need to unlock EVERYTHING in order to get 1 mil later. Play the game as you like till you get to the last boss race against Darius. When you reach that point, sell all the cars you have until you have just one. When you do that, use your last car to get into all kinds of trouble, and let yourself be busted so many times that your car gets impounded. (remember to pay cash at the "busted" screen) When the "game over" screen loads, select EXIT TO MENU. You will see that all the reward cards and challenge series you have done are still there and this is integral for the next stages. Now, Start a new career. Select the Camaro as your starter car and DO NOT customize it in any way except for street package NOS. Set Neville as active (+200 cash per win). Win EVERY race in Kempton till you reach Angie. By then you should have enough cash to purchase the Supra in the car lot (unlocked from the first profile!). YOU MUST NOT CUSTOMIZE THE SUPRA IN ANY WAY. Also, DON'T SELL THE CAMARO (trust me on this one, you're gonna need it later) Defeat Angie with the Evo (dead easy...i almost felt sorry for her when I did it) and select any two random cards. It doesn't matter if you dont get her car or the cash reward. Hire Samson and set him as active. Remember to keep Neville in the crew - this results in you having 10% more cash as well as 200 more cash per win. Conquer Fortuna and defeat Wolf. Conquer Downtown and defeat Kenji. SILVERTON: Here's the tricky part. Equip your evo with street package NOS and do all the races except the murcielago canyon duel (do it if you can) and the final boss race. By the time you reach the boss race, you should have around 970k so sell the Supra. If you didnt have the Camaro this would not be possible. You now have a comfortable 1 mil. And BAM!! You're done. =D ========================================================== 5.3 - Completing 20 Defensive Races -------------(NFSC026) ========================================================== The reason why this is almost impossible to do in a profile is because there are only around 15 defensives in the whole of career mode. I am going to explain how to get the remainig 5 or so. This can actually be completed while trying to get $1 mil. This is because when you get busted and have to start a new profile, the game still remembers that you have done a certain amount of defensives from the previous profile. Therefore when doing the $1 mil profile, you will inevitably have to do a couple of defensives, namely around 15. By the time you have conquered the third territory, I guarantee you will have completed 20 defensive races. ;) ========================================================== 6.--------------DRIFTING (NFSC027)------------------------ ========================================================== I decided to do this section partly because of high demand but mainly because I have to live up to my reputation. =D After all, I AM the REAL DK of the Need For Speed Series. Anyways, this section will cover everything you need to know about drifting in NFS Carbon. From how the drifting mechanism works all the way to how to become a Drift King.... even though you won't beat me. =D ========================================================== 6.1 - What is Drifting? -------------------------(NFSC028) ========================================================== Drifting is all about sliding your car through the corners. The twist with that is that you come out of the drift faster than you went in. Drifting through a turn is almost always the fastest way to go through it, and if it is pulled off correctly it is really something spectacular. Drifting originated in the mountains of Japan, namely the Touge mountain. Street racers were trying to find the quicker ways around the bends and also more thrilling ways. One of them was Keiichi Tsuchiya, who discovered the essence of drifting, and started the worldwide sport that we know today as Drifting. Tsuchiya is, without doubt, the REAL Drift King of real life. He has worked with many film companies and was heavily involved with the making of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. In it he had to drift 4 wheel-drives, rear-wheel drives and front-wheel drives. Tsuchiya can pretty much drift in anything, and he is the man that drifting films' directors turn to for guidance. As always, the best have to have a worldwide event to mark its significance. Just like the best soccer players take to the pitches of the Barclays English Premier League, and the best race car drivers take to the tracks of Formula 1, the best drifters take to the tracks of D1 Grand Prix. Just as the drifts are spectacular, when something goes wrong it can be both the most spectacular thing you've ever seen and the most horrifying. Drifting can be life-threatening, but if you know how it works and you are willing to take the risk, its a seemingly harmless, yet graceful sport and it certainly gives you that adrenaline rush that everyone craves. ========================================================== 6.2 - How it Works in Carbon --------------------(NFSC029) ========================================================== Drifting makes a return from the Underground series after it was abandoned in Most Wanted. It returns with an all-new mechanism, which I personally find neither heaven nor hell. In drift modes, getting familar with the mechanism is the imperative key to scoring big. The mechanism pushes your car's sensitivity right out the window, and as a result the car is almost 200% more sensitive in drift modes than the regular street racing modes. So a little tap left or right with the analog stick could send you careering into a spin if it is not controlled. There are many factors involved with you score. One of them is your angle of drift. The closer the car is to 0 degrees, the more points you will score. In comparison, the closer your car is to 90 degrees, it looks more spectacular but it won't gain you any points. Possibly the most important factor in drifting is speed. Speed is the essence of drifting in NFS Carbon, the faster you go the better you'll do. There are 4 zones of speed in drifting - orange, yellow, green and blue. Orange is the slowest zone and blue is the fastest. Once you learn how to drift well in the blue zones, you're well on your way to becoming a DK. ========================================================== 6.3 - Tips and Hints to become a DK -------------(NFSC030) ========================================================== Well, getting familiar with the drifting mechanism is the imperative thing. I wouldn't jump the gun and go straight for the canyon drifts firstly. Everyone needs to learn the basics first - on the drift TRACKS. Canyons are for the big boys only. How do you get familiar? Well it isnt a cut-and-dry situation. There are many factors involved in getting a good score on drifting. Tuning is one. Here is the recommended setup for drifting. When purchasing performance mods, set the mods on these settings: Engine - Set it on full torque Transmission - full acceleration Suspension - full oversteer NOS - full velocity Tires - Drift Brakes - Evenly biased (middle) Turbo - middle Now, select a tier 2 tuner and set it up with these settings. In quick race mode, select Kimei Temple drift track in the downtown section. Then choose your tier 2 tuner in car select. Now, you need to get a feel of the car when all the physics are thrown out of whack. Start off, and use NOS to propel yourself into the blue "speed bonus" zone. Aim for an overall score of 25,000. Then go for 50,000 , then 75,000 etc. Once you acheive 250,000 , you're all set for the canyon. the canyon works on the same principles of the tracks, with the exceptions of no bonus zones, a narrower and more difficult line to find and jutting rocks. These canyons are definitely no cake-walk, so its imperative that you focus on the tracks first. ========================================================== 6.4 - Which Cars? -------------------------------(NFSC031) ========================================================== The cars that are mentioned below are potential record breakers. "Record" being around 5 million points. This is my standard anyways. For all those who are gonna get better from the advice above, these are the cars to have for 1 million plus points: Audi Le Mans Quattro Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 Chevrolet Camaro Concept Dodge Challenger Concept Dodge Viper SRT10** Ford Mustang GT Ford Shelby GT500 ('67) Ford Shelby GT500 ('07) Jaguar XKR ('07) Koenigsegg CCX Lamborghini Gallardo Lamborghini Murcielago Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Mazda RX-7 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR ('07) Nissan 240SX Nissan 350Z Nissan Skyline GTR R34 Pagani Zonda F Subaru Impreza WRX STI ('07) Toyota Supra Toyota Corolla GT-S AE86 ('86) ** - Current record holder: 14,420,599 points on Gold Valley Run Canyon Drift ========================================================== 7.-------FAQs - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (NFSC032)------ ========================================================== ---------------------------------------------------------- Q. - What is the best car in the game? A. - I would have to say either the Audi Le Mans Quattro or the Lambo Gallardo. They both have 4wd, they're both light and they're bothe deadly in the hands of good drivers. ---------------------------------------------------------- Q. - Why can I not find the following cars: - Chevrolet Camaro Concept - Dodge Challenger R/T ('71) - Jaguar XKR ('07) - Koenigsegg CCX - Pagani Zonda F - Nissan 240SX? A. - Thats because these cars are exclusive to NFS Carbon: Collector's Edition. ---------------------------------------------------------- Q. - What is the title screen? A. - It's the one that says: NEED FOR SPEED CARBON in all its glory."PRESS START" pulses under the flashy logo. ---------------------------------------------------------- Q. - I entered the $10,000 money cheat several times, but it only gave me $10,000 once!!! Why is this so? A. - This is because the money cheat can only be entered once. This is a theory but EA may have done this to discourage the use of cheats in order for you guys to play fairly. ---------------------------------------------------------- Q. - Which is the best crew member? A. - Nikki is the best because she can drive very well in her Ford GT and whenever you need her, she won't be lagging miles behind you - she'll be sticking right to you. She also provides a 10% discount from all car purchases and an extra 50% NOS and Speedbreaker during the race (if she's active). ---------------------------------------------------------- Q. - I am running quite low on cash. Is there anything I can do to raise the amount of cash I have? A. - You could sell a car if you have more than one. Or you can redo completed races. If you have Samson in your crew then set him as active an keep Neville inactive but still in your crew. This way you can get an extra $50 from Samson (+10% cash per race) and an extra $200 from Neville (+$200 cash per race). So you get $750 per race instead of the normal $500. Even if you don't have Samson, you can still $700 provided that he's still in your crew. ---------------------------------------------------------- Q. - Which is the best car class? A. - Exotics are the best car class. Their super engines and complicated chassis' make for great acceleration, great top speed and great handling. The Gallardo is their best representative, and not much can beat it. ---------------------------------------------------------- ========================================================== 8.---------------VERSION HISTORY (NFSC033)---------------- ========================================================== ---------------------------------------------------------- v1.0 - First version of NFSC guide finished.
