Major update on walkthrough ============================================================================ Game Review ------------- Everyone has heard of Metal Gear Solid. It's a revolutionary game that created its own genre. Basically it supposed to be all action, but Konami added a unique weapon to this one; stealth. You can't just blast your way through the game. You can't just run through it either. You have to adopt stealth techniques and learn how to pass without being detected. And you have to learn pretty quickly. I will be now talking about all the aspects of the game, all the pros and the cons: Graphics: 10/10 This is undoubtedly the best graphics you can ever get on the Playstation. All the characters look like real, even if their body may look like blocks at some places. The enemies are also superbly detailed, just like the main characters. The environment is also magnificent, and even the weather conditions are very realistic. But the best part is of course, the FMV sequences. You have to see them to know what I am talking about. Sound: 9/10 The sounds are superb too. There isn't too much variation in the music, but it is played properly. It goes into a high pitch when some important part of the game is going on, and is at a medium level when you just have to explore. The environmental sounds are good too. Snake's footsteps have a characteristic sound when he walks on metal or on ordinary surface. If he taps on wood, it really sounds like real and not like as if he's tapping on metal. But the best part is the voice acting. The voices of the characters are done by real professionals and are lively and convincing. They speak with real emotion and not like some zombies. Overall, the sounds are pretty impressive in this game. Gameplay: 10/10 As I've said before, this game created an entire genre altogether. Sneaking is your best friend. You have to strive to avoid detection at all times. This doesn't mean it's game over if you are spotted. But it will make things risky... There are also lots of cool bosses in this game. Most of them are completely different from the other and have extremely high AI. It's no walk in the park to defeat them. Critics complained that the original Metal Gear Solid was too short. That's why Konami decided to release the Integral version. The VR Missions in this will keep even the most hardcore gamer satisfied. Reply value: 8/10 In the game, you can keep playing again and again, as there are so much different things you can do and experiment. You essentially just have to play the game two times, as there are two different endings. But because of the extra missions, you WILL keep playing this game again and again. Overall: 37/40 I would have loved to give this game 9.5/10, but no fractions allowed. This is definitely a must buy game and is without a doubt one of the best games ever on the Playstation. What exactly makes this game so unique? It could be the eye-popping graphics, the stunning voice acting, etc. But at the end, you will find out that it is the experience that makes this game what it is. No other game can offer what Metal Gear Solid has to offer. So to end, Three Cheers for the magnificent game!! ============================================================================ Tips and Lists --------------- 1. These are their different frequencies: Colonel Cambell/Naomi Hunter: 140.85 Master (Colonel Miller): 141.80 Deepthroat: 140.48 Otocan (Hal Emmerich): 141.12 Mei Ling: 140.96 Meryl Cambell: 140.15 Natasha Romanakev: 141.52 3. WEAPONS LIST ---------------- In this section, I am going to list and describe all the weapons in this, as well as how to use them efficiently. Weapon: MP 5 ZD It can be used only in the very easy difficulty and is the default weapon. It works identical to the FAMAS. Weapon: Socom Known as Special Operations Command Pistol, it is a .45 caliber pistol with plenty of stopping power. It include special feature like a laser-aiming module (LAM) and a buffer system for reducing the impact of recoil forces. Weapon: C4 This volatile, plastic explosive has a texture, similar to clay, enabling you to shape it easily. It is 1.4 times the destructive power of normal dynamite. Highly stable, it will not explode without a detonating device, even if it is shot, burned or beaten. The wireless detonator is equipped with a scrambler so that any radio sources will not interfere it. Weapon: FAMAS It is a bull pup style assault rifle. It is durable, easy to use, and has strong resistant to thermal shocks. It is a reliable weapon with smooth action that can fire up to 1000 rounds per minute, and when on full auto, it can empty a 25 round magazine in few seconds. The last three shots in the FAMAS chamber are tracer bullets to locate targets by leaving a red trail. Weapon: Grenade These are explosive devices that will detonate within five seconds once the pin is pulled. It does cause a lot of noise and alert any nearby guards or sensors. Weapon: Chaff Grenade It is a special grenade that will jam any electronic equipment for ten seconds, by dispersing thin, narrow metallic strips of various lengths and frequency responses. However, it does jam up your own radar too, so make sure that you are safe before using it. Weapon: Stun Grenade It is used in sensitive operations such as freeing hostages. Known as flash bang or sound and flash grenade, it makes a big flash, causing lots of noise which will disorient and disable your opponent temporarily for a period not exceeding eight seconds into an unconscious state. However, it will not kill any enemies. Weapon: Claymore Unlike underground mines, it is planted above ground surface and designed to produce maximum damage in a wide fan-shaped area. It will explode if someone steps on the ground within its range, producing seven hundred 1.2 millimeter steel pellets in 100-degree pattern like an oversized shotgun. It's camouflaged using the new stealth technology, and equipped with sophisticated motion detector. It can only be detected using mine detector or thermal goggles. To recover it, simply crawl over it. Weapon: Nikita Known as the remote-controlled miniature reconnaissance missile, it has CCD cameras in their nose cones. It utilizes satellite radar tracking feature, and when fired, transmits visual data to your monitor, which allows you to control the missile. However, the drawback is that it has limited fuel. Weapon: PSG1 One of the world's best sniper rifles, with excellent accuracy, that can shoot clearly through a 2.5 centimeter square from a distance of 100 meters. Unlike other sniper rifles, it is not bolt action, but semi-automatic and allow rapid fire. The slightest tremble can make you miss target by inches. Weapon: Stinger It is equipped with thermal homing device, and has a lock-on feature that will automatically pursue target by lining up the crosshairs. When equipped, it changes to an aiming mode, where targets like humans, cameras, heat- sensitive equipment etc., are located through a red-aiming sensor. The Stinger is potent, has short range and low altitude SAMS. 4. ITEMS LIST -------------- Item: Ration Known as Combat rations or C-rations, it contains a mixture of many nutrients, and blood-clotting agents, that can restores Snake's life. Item: Cigarette Made of nicotine based amalgamation, and plant leaves, Solid Snake swallowed it and smuggled it into Shadow Moses Island in Alaska, keeping Naomi and Campbell in the dark. If you keep on smoking, it will drain Solid Snake's life. Item: Scope It is extremely vital for combats, as it allows you to analyze the surroundings, before taking any action. To enter the scope mode, press action (circle) to zoom in and crawl button (X) to zoom out. Item: Body Armour A Kevlar-coated M1-11 Combat Vest, when equipped, acts as a bulletproof vest, and reduces your damage by preventing bullets from penetrating, thus reducing the impacts from gunshots, but not totally. It is extremely useful, as a protection coat, especially in gunfire scene. Item: Gas Mask It is a double eyepiece type. Unlike any transparent shield, it restricts your field of vision. Also, it is equipped with a voice emitter. Wearing this will protect you from poisonous gases. Item: Thermal Goggle Unlike N.V.G, it works by thermal imaging instead of amplifying light, showing bright-red silhouettes. Therefore, it can work in complete darkness. Beside, thermal imaging allows the penetrating of optic stealth systems possible, as well as spotting claymores. Item: Night Vision Goggle It works electronically by amplifying light and transforming it into electric signals, which increases brightness to create an image. It can see 500 meters by starlight, just as if it is in the day. However, it won't work in complete darkness. Item: Mine Detector It works by searching for metal objects, such as detecting claymores that are hidden with optic stealth technology and then transferred the radio waves from the buried mines into your radar. Item: Cardboard Box There are three cardboard boxes in Shadow Moses Island. Each is a standard tan box with military markings and a colored stripe running along the top. You can use it to teleport via places in the base and to hide inside it. To be transported, simply get into a truck and hide in one of the cardboards. Cardboard A will take you to the heliport, cardboard B to the nuke building and cardboard C to the Snowfield. Note that you can only find trucks at these three locations. Hide inside it for a few seconds and a soldier will drive you to the desired destinations. Item: Socom Suppressor Specially designed to enhance the .45 caliber pistol. When both are equipped, it reduces noise, and allows rapid firing possible, without alerting nearby guards or cameras. Item: Medicine Stored inside a green container with a red cross on the box, a single capsule is an artificially made Alaskan flu and cold inhibitor. It dissolves into the bloodstream when consumed and reacts any cold symptoms by hardening the white blood cells, causing neutralization to take place in the brain, regaining its immunity to fight against any cold disease. Item: Diazepam When swallowed, it acts as a tranquilizer by reducing heartbeat to calm yourself, so that users can target and fire at enemies with a greater accuracy chance. This is especially useful, when you are using the sniper rifle, PSG1. Item: Disk An important MO Disk that contains military data of the three launch tests. Item: Pan Keycard It is a purple piece of plastic sensitive card, known as Personal Area Network that transmits data using the salts in your body as the transmission medium. As you approach a door with a security device slot, it reads the data in the card, enabling the door to open. There are a total of 7 level Pan keycards. Item: Pal Key Known as Permissive Action link keycard, it has a discrete detonation code built into all nuclear weapon systems as a safety control. Item Timer Bomb Small enough so that it can fit into a pocket, you may come across it occasionally. When you do come across it, quickly dispose of it, as it can explode. Item: Scarf A silken handkerchief belonging to Sniper Wolf given to you by Otacan. Item: Rope This nylon rope is durable and does not snap easily. 5. Previous Operations ----------------------- This section gives the plot of the previous two Metal Gear games: Game: Metal Gear The Year is 1995. Deep in South Africa, 200km north of Garzburg, Outer Heaven-an armed fortress nation, established by the legendary mercenary. He was feared in combat by both his friends and foes as a hero and a lunatic. The "Western" nations have found that a weapon of mass destruction capable of rewriting war history is under development at Outer Heaven. They have called upon the high-tech Special Forces unit FOX-HOUND to take care of the situation. In response to this order, Big Boss, the commander-in-chief of FOX-HOUND, sent Gray Fox, the man with the code name "Fox" which is given to the best member of the unit "Operation intrude N313" After a few days, his last message being "Metal Gear..." Gray Fox was missing in action. Taking the situation seriously, the top men of the "West" again called for FOX-HOUND. Big Boss selected Solid Snake, who had recently joined FOX-HOUND, as the agent and entrusted everything to him. Successfully making a solo infiltration to Outer Heaven, Snake got in touch with local resistance members Schneider, Diane and Jennifer. With their co-operation, Snake succeeded in rescuing Gray Fox. Gray Fox laid out the terrifying facts about "Metal Gear". Metal Gear was the development name of a nuclear warhead-equipped two-legged walking tank. It can walk through over the toughest terrains that would stop normal tanks. It can conduct local warfare by itself with unique weapons like its Vulcan-cannon and anti-tank missiles. It was indeed a new type of weapon that can conduct a nuclear attack against any place on the face of the Earth from any land surface... With Metal Gear, Outer Heaven was trying to establish its military superiority over the entire world. In order to destroy Metal Gear, Snake rescued Metal Gear's chief engineer Dr. Pettrovich and his daughter, Ellen, who was taken hostage to force her father to continue with his development. Snake hears from Dr. Pettrovich how to destroy Metal Gear. However, as Snake approached the heart of Outer Heaven and Metal Gear, well designed traps are set all around Snake- as if his actions are being leaked to the enemy... In the midst of the escalating battle, the leader of the resistance, Schneider, fell into the hands of the enemy, and Snake himself was injured through the deadly battles with Outer Heaven's best mercenaries. But Snakes indomitable spirit leads him to the 100th floor basement of the secret base where Metal Gear was developed. Evading the powerful defense system that wipes out all intruders, Snake ultimately succeeded in destroying Metal Gear. Snake tried to escape from Outer Heaven upon completing the mission. However, during the escape he was confronted by one man - FOX-HOUND'S commander-in-chief, Big Boss. Big Boss laughed at the astounded Snake and told him the truth behind his mission. While serving as commander-in-chief of FOX-HOUND Big Boss also ran a mercenary dispatch company utilizing his connections and capitals from his own years as a mercenary. He was planning on to build this company a larger military establishment, and he built Outer Heaven as its base. His purpose for sending the rookie Snake was to cause information confusion amongst the west. However, Big Boss miscalculated. He never thought Solid Snake would make it this far... Having lost Metal Gear, Big Boss activated the self-destruct system of the underground base. While the countdown to destruction continued, his screamed echoed in the emptiness "YOU HAVE GONE TO FAR. TOO FAR!!!" On the 100th floor basement, the battle between the 2 men commenced- free of ideology and politics. The armed fortress nation Outer Heaven collapsed. The impenetrable fortress made from the best military technology and occupied by the toughest mercenaries burned in flames. Behind him, the flames reached skyward, as Outer Heaven fell leaving Solid Snake all alone... Game Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. 1999, the world was facing an energy crisis. It was obvious that the petroleum would run out faster than what was expected. However, the development of an alternative energy resource is far from completion. The price of petroleum has skyrocketed and the world economy in confusion. The 21st century was expected to be one of chaos. One mans invention changed the entire situation. A Czech genius and biologist, Dr. Kio Marv, invented OILIX, a microorganism that refines petroleum to product a highly purified form of petroleum. The world was filled with hope upon the discovery of this messiah to solve the energy crisis, but at the same time the world entered a time of tension regarding this new algae. Just when the whole worlds attention was drawn to OILIX and Dr. Marv, he was abducted by someone and disappeared. Nations begun investigations immediately and a name soon appeared...'Zanzibar Land'... Zanzibar Land was a democratic military regime that suddenly appeared in central Asia in 1997. When their uprising took place, the CIS Army, formed around Russia, sent in a suppressive unit immediately. Zanzibar Land resisted by gathering a band of Mercenaries from nations around the world and fortifying most of its land. As a result, the CIS Army was repeatedly defeated, and Zanzibar Land declared its independence. Due to the active role mercenaries played, this war was called the 'mercenaries war' and Zanzibar Land was referred to as an armed fortress nation. A military nation with a group of strong mercenaries, surrounded by a tough fortress. According to the latest information, Zanzibar supposedly was armed with Nuclear Weapons. The whole scenario was crystal clear. By obtaining OILIX in addition to nuclear weapons, Zanzibar Land was trying to establish its economic and military superiority over the entire world. Concerned about the situation, the United States of America ordered Roy Campbell, Commander-in- Chief of high tech special forces unit FOX-HOUND, to rescue Dr. Marv. Campbell was a former member of FOX-HOUND. He brought back Solid Snake, the man who single handedly brought down the armed fortress nation of Outer Heaven 4 years ago, and asked Snake to bring back Dr. Marv and OILIX. Successfully infiltrating Zanzibar Land and with help from CIA agent Harry and others, Snake was able to go deep into the fortress and meet again with Dr. Pettrovich, the chief engineer of Metal Gear from Outer Heaven. He too was abducted to Zanzibar Land and forced to develop another Metal Gear. He told to surprised Snake an even more shocking fact. Big Boss, the man Snake had defeated at Outer Heaven, turned out to be the General Commander of Zanzibar Land. Snake rescued Dr. Pettrovich in co-operation with Natasha, Dr. Marv's guard and former Czech International Secret Police agent, and then headed for the confinement facility deep in the fortress to save Dr. Marv. When Pettrovich and Natasha crossed the narrow suspension bridge over the deep valley, a missile blew the bridge away. Natasha flew into the air because of the explosion. While unable to do anything to save Natasha, Snake started hearing a well-known voice "Hey Snake, were good buddies. I can let you go. Just leave this place at once!" Gray Fox. Snake saw Gray Fox controlling Metal Gear. The best soldier in FOX-HOUND who, after the fall of Outer Heaven, disappeared as if he followed Big Boss. Losing Natasha in front of his eyes and letting Pettrovich get taken away, Snake screamed "Fox! I will not give up!" After a series of deadly battles with mercenaries, Snake finally made it to Dr. Marv's confinement facility. However, he arrived to late. He saw Dr. Marv's corpse and Pettrovich, who could do nothing but just stand there. Pettrovich told Snake that Dr. Marv could not withstand the repeated tortures because of heart problems. Snake then received an emergency call from Harry. The information she supplied was very shocking. Pettrovich had been voluntarily visiting Zanzibar Land to develop Metal Gear. The abduction of Dr. Marv was conducted under the directions of Pettrovich himself. After the truth came out, Pettrovich attacked Snake, but Snake easily put an end to him and obtained the structural plan of OILIX. While trying to escape, Snake was confronted by Metal Gear again, controlled by Gray Fox. The tremendous battle took place in the underground base. Snake finally succeeded in destroying Metal Gear. However, Gray Fox did not submit and challenged Snake to the final battle. In the midst of a minefield, Snake and Fox fought without any weapons. A fist-to-fist duel involving no hatred or murderous intent. During that moment of purity the two were bound by forces transcending words and emotions. Snake won the tough but pure battle against Gray Fox. However, there was still someone else. Snake had to fight, Big Boss. Just like 4 years ago at Outer Heaven Big Boss was waiting for Snake. "One who has experienced the tension of battle can never leave the battlefield. I am the one giving you something to live for, and that is war" Snake was infuriated at the arrogant Big Boss "There is only one battle I have to fight. To free myself from you, to shatter the nightmare...Big Boss, I will kill you!" With the structural plan of Oilix, Snake and Harry escaped from Zanzibar Land on a rescue helicopter. Snake once again saved the world. However, there was no smile on his face. Big Boss's last words kept ringing in his head "Whoever wins, out battle does not end. There loser is freed from the battlefield, the winner must remain there and the survivor must live his life as the warrior until he dies" Snake then disappeared into the white lands of Alaska...alone... 9. Intro List -------------- The below information is located under the "Briefing" option at the main menu: A. Mission Description Roy Campbell: "It's been a long time, Snake." Solid Snake: "I should have known you were behind this, Colonel." Roy Campbell: "That's no way to greet an old war buddy, Snake." Solid Snake: "What do you want from me?" Roy Campbell: "I just invited you here so we could have a talk." Solid Snake: "Invited!? That's what you call sending armed soldiers after me?" Roy Campbell: "Sorry if they were a little rough with you. But we've got a serious situation here. Only you can get us out of it." Solid Snake: "I'm retired from FOX-HOUND. You're not my commander anymore and I don't have to take orders from your or anyone else. Roy Campbell: "You will take these orders. I know it." Naomi Hunter: "Excuse me..." Solid Snake: "Who's this?" Roy Campbell: "Dr. Naomi Hunter. She's chief of FOX-HOUND's medical staff and an expert in gene therapy." Solid Snake: "Are you military?" Naomi Hunter: "No, civilian. I've been sent here from ATGC. Pleasure to meet you, Snake. Don't worry this injection won't hurt a bit." Solid Snake: "What's the shot for?" Naomi Hunter: "What's wrong? You don't like shots?" Roy Campbell: "Snake, listen up. It all went down five hours ago. Heavily armed soldiers occupied Shadow Moses Island, a remote island off the coast of Alaska." Solid Snake: "What soldiers?" Roy Campbell: "Next-Generation Special Forces led by members of Unit FOX-HOUND. They've presented Washington with a single demand and they say that if it isn't met, they'll launch a nuclear weapon." Solid Snake: "A nuclear weapon?" Roy Campbell: "I'm afraid so. You see, the island is the site of a secret nuclear weapons disposal facility. Solid Snake: "FOX-HOUND hijacking a nuclear weapon!?" Roy Campbell: "Now you understand how serious the situation is. You'll have two mission objectives. First you're to rescue the DARPA Chief Donald Anderson and the president of ArmsTech, Kenneth Baker. They're both being held as hostages." Solid Snake: "Those are some heavy duty hostages." Roy Campbell: "Secondly, you're to investigate whether or not the terrorists have the ability to launch a nuclear strike and stop them if they do. Any questions, Snake?" Solid Snake: "Questions? I haven't even said whether I'd accept this mission." Roy Campbell: Well, you can make up your mind after you hear more about the situation." B. Infiltration Method Solid Snake: "Tell me about the nuclear weapon disposal facility." Roy Campbell: "The disposal facility includes a hardened underground base. Even with our most advanced intelligence gathering equipment we can't tell what's happening inside." Solid Snake: "So someone needs to penetrate, gather intelligence and report back. Sounds like a spy movie... What's the insertion method?" Roy Campbell: "Well, an air insertion is impossible." Solid Snake: "Not with this storm going on." Roy Campbell: "We'll approach the disposal facility by sub." Solid Snake: "Approach?" Roy Campbell: "Yes, within a few miles of it. The facility is equipped with sonar detection capabilities. They'll be able to hear our engine or propeller noise." Solid Snake: "And then?" Roy Campbell: "We'll launch a one-man SDV (swimmer delivery vehicle)." Solid Snake: "Launch?" Roy Campbell: "Same as a torpedo. Only this has no propulsion device of its own. After the SDV gets as close as it can, dispose of it. From there on you'll have to swim." Solid Snake: "You want me to swim in sub-zero Alaska water?" Roy Campbell: "Don't worry. That suit represents that latest advances in poly-thermal technology. The nuclear weapons disposal facility covers the wholes island. I'll instruct you by Codec after you reach your target." Solid Snake: "Anyone going with me?" Roy Campbell: "As usual, this is a one-man infiltration mission." Solid Snake: "Weapons and equipment OSP (on-site procurement)?" Roy Campbell: "Yes. This is a top-secret black op. Don't expect any official support." C. Time Limit Solid Snake: "What's the time limit?" Roy Campbell: "24 hours. They say they'll launch after 24 hours." Solid Snake: "Do they say what the target will be?" Roy Campbell: "So far they haven't mentioned the target." Solid Snake: "When did the countdown start?" Roy Campbell: "5 hours ago." D. Person In Charge Solid Snake: "Colonel, who are you speaking for?" Roy Campbell: "Naturally I'm representing the U.S. Government." Solid Snake: "So who's in supervisory control of this operation?" Roy Campbell: "The President of the United States." Solid Snake: "Which means that the President must be meeting with his top aides in the Map Room about now, huh?" Roy Campbell: "No, at this point they're still video conferencing with each other." Solid Snake: "If that's a real nuclear warhead, shouldn't they issue a COG?" Roy Campbell: "Not yet. The Secretary of Defense has operational control and is fully aware of the situation. After you infiltrate, if you determine they possess nuclear launch capabilities, a COG will be issued." Solid Snake: "Well if they haven't relocated to the nuclear shelter under Mount Washington, I suppose there isn't that much reason to worry yet. Is the National Security Agency in on this?" Roy Campbell: "Yes and so is the DIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency." Solid Snake: "The DIA? I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this." Roy Campbell: "They'll be sending us some support." Solid Snake: "We don't need desk jockies. We need a nuclear weapons specialist." Roy Campbell: "Of course. A nuclear weapons specialist has already been assigned to us. E. Support Crew Solid Snake: "We need backup from a specialist. I'm just an amateur when it comes to nuclear weapons." Roy Campbell: "I know. That's why I've requested the assistance of a military analyst named Nastasha Romanenko. She'll be providing you backup by Codec." Solid Snake: "A female analyst?" Roy Campbell: "She's built up an impressive record as an advisor for the Nuclear Emergency Search Team. Contact her if you have any questions. She's also an expert on hi tech weapons." Solid Snake: "Where's she working from?" Roy Campbell: "At her home in Los Angeles." Solid Snake: "California...Seems like a million miles away..." Name : Nastasha Romanenko Sex : Female Age : 30 Nationality : Ukrainian Height : 166cm PROFILE: 1970s - Born in Ukraine. 1986 - She and her family were showered by the radiation from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster in Prypiat (A City 3 Kilometers north of Chernobyl). 1990 - After losing her parents, who participated in the cleanup at Chernobyl, She moves to the US. 1992 - Joins the DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency). 1995 - Leaves the Bureau to become a freelance analyst. Writes for assorted information magazines and US Naval information magazines. 1996 - Attends the Canberra Committee, the world's first nationally hosted nuclear weapon abolition proposal group, as an advisor. F. Roy Cambell Solid Snake: "Colonel, you're retired. Why are you involved in this?" Roy Campbell: "Because there aren't many people who know FOX-HOUND as well as I do." Solid Snake: "Is that really the only reason?" Roy Campbell: "I've been soldiering for a long time. I don't know anything else. I guess even though I'm getting a little old, I still love to be in the field." Solid Snake: "Colonel, you're a lousy liar. Tell me the real reason." Roy Campbell: "Okay, Snake. Sorry. I'll be frank. A person very dear to me is being held hostage." Solid Snake: "Who is it?" Roy Campbell: "My niece, Meryl. G. Meryl Solid Snake: "What was your niece doing here?" Roy Campbell: "Several soldiers were reported missing the day of the revolt, and my niece was one of those called in as an emergency replacement." Solid Snake: "She looks like you." Roy Campbell: "She's my little brother's girl. He died in the Gulf War, and since then I've been watching after her." Solid Snake: "A personal motive, Colonel... that's not very soldierly." Roy Campbell: "I'm retired. I'm just an old man now... and I'm your friend." Solid Snake: "Since when are we friends?" Roy Campbell: "I've though of use as friends since the fall of Zanzibar." Solid Snake: "With my personality, I don't have many friends." Roy Campbell: "That's what I trust about you. It's what makes you human. Please, Snake! Save my niece, Meryl!" Solid Snake: "All right. But I have two conditions." Roy Campbell: "Name them." Solid Snake: "One, no more secrets between use. I want complete disclosure at all times. And two, I'll only accept orders directly from you, Colonel. No cutoffs involved, okay?" Roy Campbell: "Agreed. That's why I was called. But one thing..." Solid Snake: "What?" Roy Campbell: "I'm not a Colonel anymore, just a retired old warhorse." Solid Snake: "I understand... Colonel." Name : Meryl Silverburgh Sex : Female Age : 18 Nationality : USA Height : 175cm PROFILE: 2005 - Joins this exercise as a novice. She has no real battle experience, but has gone through VR simulation combat training. Has received psychotherapy not to be attracted to those of the opposite sex. H. Dr. Naomi Hunter Solid Snake: "That doctor. Is she part of this operation too?" Roy Campbell: "She was in charge of FOX-HOUND's gene therapy. She knows more about those men than anyone else." Solid Snake: "You mean you've seen them naked?" Naomi Hunter: "Make no mistake. I'm not a nurse. I am a scientist." Solid Snake: "By the way, what was that injection for?" Naomi Hunter: "It's a combination of nanomachines and an anti-freezing peptide so that your blood and other bodily fluids don't freeze, even at sub-arctic temperatures..." Solid Snake: "Nanomachines?" Naomi Hunter: "Not just one kind either. There are different types which will replenish the supply of adrenaline, nutrition and sugar in your bloodstream." Solid Snake: "Now I don't have to worry about food." Naomi Hunter: "I also put some nootropics in there." Solid Snake: "Say what?" Naomi Hunter: "Nootropics. A class of drugs, which will help, improve your mental functioning." Solid Snake: "It'll make me smarter, huh? Anything else?" Naomi Hunter: "Yes, benzedrine. It's a type of stimulant. It'll keep you alert and responsive for twelve straight hours." Solid Snake: "That was quite a cocktail. Anything else in there?" Naomi Hunter: "Those nanomachines will also keep your Codec's batteries charged up." Solid Snake: "I guess I can call you when I'm ready to go on a diet." Naomi Hunter: "You're welcome." I. Hostages Solid Snake: "The chief of DARPA and the president of an arms manufacturing company... What business did they have at a nuclear weapons disposal facility?" Roy Campbell: "...The truth is that secret exercises were being conducted at the time the terrorist group attacked." Solid Snake: "Must be extremely important exercises if those two were directly involved. Were they testing some kind of new nuclear weapon?" Roy Campbell: "I'm not privy to that information." Solid Snake: "Do we know exactly where they're being held?" Naomi Hunter: "The DARPA Chief has also been injected with a mini- transmitter. As you get closer, you should be able to pick up his location on your radar." J. Nuclear Weapons Solid Snake: "Do they really have the ability to launch a nuclear missile?" Roy Campbell: "They say they do. They even gave the serial number of the warhead they plan to use." Solid Snake: "Was the number confirmed?" Roy Campbell: "I'm afraid so. At the very least, they've got their hands on a real nuclear warhead." Solid Snake: "Isn't there some kind of safety device to prevent this type of terrorism?" Roy Campbell: "Yes, every missile and warhead in our arsenal is equipped with a PAL which uses a discrete detonation code." Solid Snake: "PAL?" Roy Campbell: "'Permissive Action Link' The safety control system built into all nuclear weapons systems. But even so, we can't rest easy. Solid Snake: "Why not?" Roy Campbell: "Because the DARPA Chief knows the detonation code." Solid Snake: "But even if they have a nuclear warhead, it must have been removed from its missile. All the missiles on those disposal sites supposed to be dismantled. It's not that easy to get your hands on an ICBM." Roy Campbell: "That used to be true, but since the end of the Cold War, you can get anything if you have enough money and the right connections." Solid Snake: "How well armed are these terrorists? I know there was an exercise going on at the time they revolted." Roy Campbell: "They're heavily armed, I'm afraid." Solid Snake: "What about their battle experience?" Roy Campbell: "The six members of FOX-HOUND in charge are all hardened veterans. They're tough enough to eat nails and ask for seconds." Solid Snake: "I wouldn't expect anything less from FOX-HOUND." Roy Campbell: "The others are Next-Generation Special Forces. They're not your average grunts, either. K. The Terrorist's Demand Solid Snake: "So, what exactly are they demanding?" Roy Campbell: "A person's remains." Solid Snake: "Remains?" Roy Campbell: "That's right. To be more accurate, cell specimens, which contain the individual's genomic information. Solid Snake: "Cell specimens? Why would they want that?" Roy Campbell: "The terrorists need them. You see, these Next- Generation Special Forces have been strengthened through gene therapy." Solid Snake: "Strengthened?" Roy Campbell: "You've heard of the Human Genome Project. They've been mapping the human genome and they're nearly finished. Following up on this research, the military has been working towards identifying those genes which are responsible for making effective soldiers." Solid Snake: "There are genes that do that?" Roy Campbell: "And using gene therapy, they're able to transplant those genes into regular soldiers." Solid Snake: "Gene therapy?" Naomi Hunter: "I'll explain this part. With gene therapy, we can remove those genes which we know may lead to sickness or disease, and at the same time, splice in genes with beneficial effects, such as resistance to cancer for example." Roy Campbell: "In other words, we can overcome all sorts of genetic diseases, and at the same time, add genetic characteristics as desired." Solid Snake: "O.K. And so, if you know what genes were responsible for making the perfect soldier, you could implant them in the same way, right?" Naomi Hunter: "Yes...we could." Roy Campbell: "But, it all depends on being able to isolate and identify those "soldier genes"." Naomi Hunter: "And, in order to do that, it's helpful if you can study the genomic information of one of the greatest soldiers ever." L. Genetic Strengthening Solid Snake: "One of the greatest soldiers ever?" Naomi Hunter: "The man they called the greatest warrior of the 20th century..." Solid Snake: "You don't mean Big Boss!?" Naomi Hunter: "That's right. We've been working feverishly to identify the genes responsible for his incredible combat skill. So far, we've discovered about 60 of the so-called "soldier genes"." Solid Snake: "So, his body was recovered after all." Roy Campbell: "Yes, and his cells have remained frozen in a cryo- chamber. His genomic information is a priceless treasure to mankind." Solid Snake: "Priceless to the military perhaps." Naomi Hunter: "His body was burned severally, but it was possible to restore his DNA profile from just a single strand of his hair." Solid Snake: "You people are amazing. And then, you're gonna transplant those genes into soldiers?" Naomi Hunter: "Yes, we'll use a process that I discovered called gene targeting. The strongest soldiers don't become what they are by acquiring their skills through training or experience. We now know that hereditary factors are far more crucial for creating superior soldiers." Roy Campbell: "Snake, we can't give them his body. It's potentially more dangerous than all the nuclear warheads on that island put together." Naomi Hunter: "I hear that the terrorists are calling themselves "The Sons of Big Boss"." Solid Snake: "The Sons of Big Boss" M. Next Generation Special Forces Unit Solid Snake: "Tell me about these Next-Generation Special Forces." Roy Campbell: "They started out as an anti-terrorist special-ops unit made up of former members of biochemical units, technical escort units and the Nuclear Emergency Search Team. Their purpose was to respond to threats involving next-generation weapons of mass destruction, including NBC weapons." Naomi Hunter: "Until "they" were added, that is." Solid Snake: "Who's "they"?" Roy Campbell: "These guys didn't start out as regular army." Solid Snake: "Looks like pretty international group. Mercenaries?" Roy Campbell: "Yeah, and it gets worse. Most of them were from a merc agency that I think you're familiar with. They were part of Big Boss's private guard. And after Big Boss went down, the military just bought out all their contracts." Solid Snake: "Outer Heaven..." Roy Campbell: "After that, they were merged with our own VR Unit. "Force 21", and retrained. If you ask me, these so-called "Next-Generation Special Forces" should be called "simulated soldiers". They have no real battle experience." Solid Snake: "Video game players, huh?" Naomi Hunter: "Don't forget they've all been strengthened with gene therapy. They carry genes that make them excellent soldiers. Don't get careless because they don't have much experience." Solid Snake: "I though using genetically modified soldiers was prohibited by international law." Naomi Hunter: "Yes, but those were just declarations, not actual treaties." Roy Campbell: "The interesting thing is that nearly every member of the unit conspired in this attacked." N. Unanimous Approval Solid Snake: "How could an entire unit be subverted to rebellion?" Naomi Hunter: "They're calling it a revolution." Roy Campbell: "Since they all went through the same gene therapy, they probably felt closer than brothers. They see the unit as their only family." Solid Snake: "The Sons of Big Boss... but if they were regular army they must have been interviewed periodically by army counselors..." Roy Campbell: "According to their files, they all got straight A's on their psychological tests. They all seemed like fine, upstanding, patriotic soldiers." Solid Snake: "But they all took part in the uprising?" Roy Campbell: "No. Several people didn't show up on the day of the exercise. That's why there was a re-supply of troops." Solid Snake: "Was there any sign that something might be wrong?" Roy Campbell: "There was a report a month ago that they were acting strangely." Naomi Hunter: "Apparently, they consulted classified information about the soldier genes and performed their own gene therapy experiments." Solid Snake: "They can do that even without you?" Naomi Hunter: "Well, our gene therapy process is almost completely automated. And besides that, they're all geniuses with IQs over 180." Roy Campbell: "Even the existence of this genome army is a national secret of the highest order. We had been hoping to investigate this thing quietly and deal with it behind closed doors. O. Unit FOX-HOUND Roy Campbell: "High Tech Special Forces Unit FOX-HOUND. Your former unit...and the one that I was a commander of. An elite group combining firepower and expertise. They're every bit as good as when I was commanding them." Solid Snake: "So they're still around..." Roy Campbell: "There are six members of FOX-HOUND involved in this terrorist activity. Psycho Mantis, with his powerful psychic abilities. Sniper Wolf, the beautiful and deadly sharpshooter. Decoy Octopus, master of disguise. Vulcan Raven, giant and shaman. And Revolver Ocelot, specialist in interrogation and a formidable gunfighter." Solid Snake: "Looks like a lovely bunch of folks. Too bad we'll be meeting under these circumstances..." Roy Campbell: "And finally, in charge of them... FOX-HOUND's squad leader, Liquid Snake." Solid Snake: "Liquid Snake?" Roy Campbell: "Yes. And you're the only person who can stand against him." P. Liquid Snake Solid Snake: "Liquid Snake?" Roy Campbell: "Liquid Snake. The man with the same code name as you." Solid Snake: "Tell me what you know." Roy Campbell: "He fought in the Gulf War as a teenager, the youngest person in the SAS. His job was to track down and destroy mobile SCUD missile launching platforms... You were there too, I believe. Didn't you infiltrate western Iraq with a platoon of Green Berets?" Solid Snake: "I was just a kid myself back then." Roy Campbell: "The details are classified, but it seems that originally he penetrated the Middle East as a sleeper for the SIS." Solid Snake: "He was a spy for the British Secret Intelligence Service?" Roy Campbell: "But he never once showed his face in Century House. He was taken prisoner in Iraq and after that there was no trace of him for several years. After you retired, he was rescued and became a member of FOX-HOUND." Solid Snake: "I thought that by the time I left they were no longer using code names." Roy Campbell: "I don't know his real name. That information is so highly classified that even I can't look at it. Here's a photo of him. Pretty shocking, huh? His skin tone is different, but otherwise you two are exact duplicates." Solid Snake: "I have a twin?" Roy Campbell: "I don't know the details, but it seems so. That's why we really need you for this mission." Naomi Hunter: "You're the only one who can beat him. Now that I've met you, I know. You've got something that he doesn't. I can see it in your eyes." Solid Snake: "Why don't I find that though more comforting?" Code Name : Liquid Snake Real Name : Unknown Sex : Male Age : 30s Nationality : British (USA) Height : 183cm PROFILE: 1970s - Born in the US. Moved to England upon birth. 1990 - Works for the British Special Force SAS to destroy the mobile scud missile launchers in the Gulf War. During the mission he becomes a POW of Iraq and was declared a MIA. 1994 - Rescued by the US Government and returns to his country. 2000 - Joins FOX-HOUND and becomes battle leader of the new FOX-HOUND. Has an IQ of 180. Fluent in 7 languages such as English, Spanish, French, Malay, etc. Speaks Arabic like a native 10. Ranking Info ----------------- The rank you depend on each game depends on the following factors: A. Time to complete B. No. of saves C. No of continues D. No. of times found E. No. of enemies killed F. No of rations used The lesser the above entities, the better your rank will be. The following is the best rank you can get in the corresponding difficulty: Extreme Mode: Big Boss Hard Mode: Fox Normal Mode: Doberman Easy: Hound Very Easy: ??? To get the best rank in any difficulty, you must achieve the following statistics: A. Time to complete = 3 hours or less B. No. of saves = ??? (I think unlimited. I got till 32) C. No of continues = 0 D. No. of times found = 5 times or less E. No. of enemies killed = 25 or less F. No of rations used = 1 or 0 11. Tips and Strategies ------------------------ A. Don't try to conserve bullets too much. This isn't Resident Evil you know... Ammo will pop up in most places. But that doesn't mean you can blast and shoot your way out of most areas. This is basically a strategy game, where you have to use your brains to outwit the enemies. B. Use your special items such as Stealth Gear and the Bandana. C. Use boxes to warp from one place to another in trucks. D. Some key items are in multiple locations; if you missed them the first time, they will pop up later in the game. E. Run while shooting. Or shoot while running. Both are same. To do this, press the action button, then press the crawl button, and then press the directional button. Snake will now run in that direction while shooting. Or shoot while running... F. Peek around corners. This will give you some idea what is beyond the corner. To do this, press R1 or L1 while in first person view. G. If you want to kill enemies quietly, snap their necks. This can be done by just pressing the action button near an enemy without equipping any weapon. Also don't press any directional button, otherwise you will flip the enemy. H. If you don't have the Stealth Gear, take out the cameras in the game with your stingers. Or use your chaff grenades. I. If you are caught, let loose a bunch of flash grenades and escape. J. Laser Aiming Module. Your SOCOM has a LAM, which will automatically track onto an enemy. Use the SOCOCM more than the FAMAS for this reason. K. Using loud weapons such as the grenades or the FAMAS can alert nearby guards. L. If some enemy has spotted you, throw some stun grenades and escape. ============================================================================ Walkthrough: Disc 1 and Disc 2 ------------------------------ Prologue: The nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island in Alaska's Fox Archipelago is attacked and captured by Next Generation Special Forces led by members of FOX-HOUND. The terrorists have secured nuclear warheads and are demanding that the government turn over the remains of Big Boss, the greatest soldier that has ever lived. They say that if their demands are not met within 24 hours, they will launch a nuclear missile. For this top-secret mission, the legendary Solid Snake is recalled from retirement to save the world. Again... His objectives are very clear. He must infiltrate the facility all alone and without any weapons, rescue two important hostages (the DARPA chief and the President of Arms Tech), and investigate whether the terrorists really have the potential for a nuclear strike. Very simple, actually... Snake is taken close to the island by a submarine, and then launched in a SDV (Swimmer Delivery Vehicle). After the SDV has gotten as close as it can, Snake disposed it and swam to the DOCK. Walkthrough, Disc 1: ________ | | | -DOCK- | |________| ******************************** F M V ************************************* Solid Snake reaches the loading dock of the Nuclear Weapons Disposal Facility on Shadow Moses Island. He notices two guards patrolling the area, so he waits till they are gone. He then hoists himself up to the dock, just as an elevator from top comes down. Inside is Liquid Snake, who calls the guards and tells them that he is sure that Snake would come through here. He tells them to be extra careful and says that he is going to take care of some 'bothersome flies'. After Liquid goes to the top, Solid calls the Colonel via codec. ******************************** F M V ************************************* The Colonel tells Snake that the elevator seems to be the only way up. He instructs Snake to take the elevator and to make sure that no one sees him. NOTE: To use the CODEC, just press select. Then just press the directional buttons to change the frequency. Whoever you talk to are stored in the CODEC's memory. Just press down to access the memory and call anyone who you want to talk to. NOTE: If a guard spots you, he will call for backup. Your radar will be jammed and it will be red. Then an evasion period will come, where your radar will be green. You will understand this concept as you play the game. When you have the control of Solid Snake, follow the staircase to Snake's right down into the water. Below, you will notice a damaged barrel. Behind this barrel is a ration. Take it and go back up. Then crawl underneath the water-tank in front of you and you will automatically enter first person view mode. You will see a guard in front of you. Wait till he has turned away from you. Then crawl outside the tank, and you will enter the normal view. Crawl right till you cross a water puddle. Then get up and run straight. Then run to the left till you see a forklift. There is another ration behind it. Wait here till the Colonel calls you. He will instruct you to wait till the elevator comes down. As soon as the elevator comes down, and the third enemy has walked away, quickly run into the elevator. ******************************** F M V ************************************* The elevator starts to move to the surface. Snake looks around and then takes off the rest of his swimming gear. The "Metal Gear Solid Integral" logo appears and we can see Snake's face clearly for the first time. ******************************** F M V ************************************* ____________ | | | -HELIPORT- | |____________| ______________________ _______________________/ M I S S I O N L O G \______________________ | | | The nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island in | | Alaska's Fox Archipelago was captured by terrorists. Snake takes a look around and then kneels down beside a large container and contacts the Colonel. Snake tells the Colonel that he is in front of the disposal facility. The colonel tells Snake that age hasn't slowed him down one bit. Naomi then interrupts Snake and asks him how the Sneaking Suit is working out. Snake tells her that his nice and dry, but it's a little hard to move around. Naomi tells Snake to stick with it, as it is designed to prevent hypothermia. Snake tells Naomi that he is thankful and if it weren't for her suit and her shot, he would've turned into a Popsicle out there. Naomi tells Snake that the shot is an anti-freezing peptide. All of the Genome Soldiers in this exercise are using it. Snake then asks how's the diversionary operation going on. The colonel tells Snake that two F-16's just took off from Galena and are headed his way. The terrorist's radar should have already picked them up. Snake looks around the corner of the large container and sees a big fighter helicopter. He then ask the colonel what a Russian Gun ship is doing here. The colonel tells Snake that he has no idea but it looks like their little diversion got their attention. The colonel tells Snake that now is his best chance to slip in unnoticed. Liquid starts the Hind D and flies off, above Snake. The colonel tells Snake that there are only 18 hours left before the deadline and that Snake must hurry. Snake then hears a girl's voice in the background saying that he must be crazy to fly a Hind in this kind of weather. Snake asks the Colonel who that was and the Colonel tells Snake that he hasn't introduced the two of them yet. He introduces him to Mei Ling, who was assigned to them as their visual and data processing specialist. She designed Snake's Codec as well as his Soliton radar system. The colonel tells Snake to contact her if he has any questions about either of them. Mei Ling tells Snake that it is nice to meet him and that it is an honor to speak to a living legend like Snake. Then Snake tells Mei Ling that he did not expect a world-class designer of military technology to be so ...cute. She then tells him that she doesn't believe that she is being hit on by the famous Solid Snake. Mei Ling tells Snake that she is surprised that he is very frank for a trained killer. Snake tells Mei Ling that it looks like they both have a lot to learn about each other. Mei Ling tells Snake that she is looking forward to learning about the man behind the legend. She then tells Snake that she will explain about his Soliton radar system. "The bright dot in the middle is you. The red dots are your enemies and the blue cone shape represents their field of vision. The genome soldiers have highly developed senses of hearing and vision due to their gene therapy. Make sure you don't let them see you." Mei Ling tells Snake that his radar isn't affected by the weather, but if an enemy discovers him, he won't be able to use it. The radar is made from currently existing technology and is easily jammed. Snake will not be able to use it in an area with strong harmonic resonance. The colonel tells Snake that they will be monitoring his movements by radar and tells Snake to contact them by Codec anytime. Snake tells the colonel that he will contact him if he is lonely. Naomi interrupts and tells Snake that they're here to back him up, and to call if he needs some information or advice. Mei Ling tells Snake that she is in charge of saving his mission data. Snake can contact her anytime he wants. The colonel then tells Snake that he will need to arm himself with whatever weapons that he can find. Snake then tells the colonel that he is strip searched by Doctor Naomi and then all of his weapons are taken away. He tells the Colonel to imagine himself put in such a position. Naomi then tells Snake that if he makes it back in one piece, maybe she'll let him do a strip search on her. Snake tells Naomi that he will hold her to that. Snake then tells her that he was able to smuggle out his smokes. Naomi asks him how he did that. Snake tells her in his stomach, thanks to the shot that she gave him, which suppressed his stomach acids. Mei Ling ask Snake how cigarettes are going help him and Snake replies "You will never know..." Snake then runs out into the snow and equips his binoculars. The colonel tells Snake that the fastest way inside is through the front door but there's too much risk of being spotted by the enemy. Snake tells that he can't just knock on the door and expected to be let in. Snake uses the binoculars to zoom onto the door entrance next to a parked truck. Snake then uses the camera to get a good look at the guards in the area. They are armed with "five-five sixers" and pineapples. Snake then discards the binoculars and runs to the other side near the elevator that he took up and uses the binoculars to zoom into the first floor ventilation shaft. The colonel tells Snake that there is an air duct for the first floor and that there should be a second duct to the second floor. Snake is unable to locate the air duct on the second floor from where he is. Snake then returns behind the large container. The colonel tells Snake that he will let him decide the best COA (Course of action) and that he is counting on him. ******************************** F M V ************************************* Note: Now you can save your game anytime you want by calling Mei Ling. Note: You will leave footprints in the snow. If a guard sees it, he will follow it until he reaches you, or it has disappeared. Be careful. Go front and stop where the floodlights are. If you are caught within these lights, an alarm will sound. As soon as the floodlights move back, quickly go through the sides and emerge from the left side. A startled DARPA Chief asks Snake who he is and why he is here. Snake replies with that he is the pawn they sent here to save his worthless butt. Then he asks if the terrorists really have the ability to launch a nuclear weapon. The DARPA Chief confirms that the terrorists are capable of launching a nuclear warhead. (The woman in the next cell over overhears what the DARPA Chief says and places her ear up against the wall to listen more closely). The DARPA Chief then tells Snake that they are planning to use a new nuclear weapon prototype, a prototype of an unstoppable tank. Snake asks whether he meant Metal Gear. A surprised DARPA Chief then asks Snake how he knew about the project, as it was so secret. Snake replies with that he and Metal Gear have had a few run-ins in the past. The DARPA Chief tells Snake that in order for the terrorist to use Metal Gear Rex, they must input the detonation codes to unlock the nuclear warheads. The DARPA Chief then says that they found out his password. Snake ask him if he talked and the DARPA Chief replies with that Psycho Mantis read his mind and that he couldn't resist him. He then tells Snake that the President of ArmsTech, Kenneth Baker knows the other detonation code. Snake then asks where the President is being held and then The Chief says in the second floor basement. He is being held where there is a lot of electronic jamming. They cemented over the walls but did not have time to finish painting over them. The DARPA Chief then gives Snake his Level 1 Security Card to get out of the cell. Snake tells the DARPA Chief that he is going get him out of here. The DARPA Chief starts to ask Snake several questions. He catches Snake's collar and asks him what the Pentagon is going to do. Snake angrily pushes him off and says that he doesn't know anything and he was sent just to save the hostages. But suddenly, something happens to the Chief. He starts to scream, and then suddenly falls down. A confused Snake then calls Naomi. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CODEC ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Snake asks Naomi what just happened. Naomi replies that he must have suffered from some kind of a heart attack. Snake then asks the Colonel if he knows anything else about what's going on, but the Colonel tells him that he doesn't know anything. Snake says he doesn't believe him, but he can't do anything. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CODEC ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Snake then hears some strange sounds. It sounds like as if the guard outside is being attacked. But then the guard walks past the door. Snake opens the door and looks to his left. He sees the guard stripped of his clothes. But before he could turn right, a gun is cocked near his head. A woman's voice tells him not to move. It the woman who was in the cell, in the guard's uniform and carrying a FAMAS rifle. She looks into the cell and sees the dead DARPA chief. She calls Snake a Bastard and asks why he killed him. Evidently, she mistakes Solid Snake for Liquid Snake. Snake then tries to move, but the woman presses the gun harder against his head. Snake then asks her whether this is the first time she has ever pointed a gun at someone. She refuses to answer, so Snake further taunts her and calls her a rookie. She then says that she is not a rookie, but Snake asks her why her hands are shaking then and why she has that scared look in her eyes. Then unexpectedly, Snake draws out his SOCOM and points it at the woman. She becomes more nervous, but now she is having doubts whether Snake is Liquid or not. She doesn't have time to clear her doubts anyway, as four guards come shooting through the door. ******************************** F M V ************************************* ______________________ _______________________/ M I S S I O N L O G \______________________ | | |Snake gets in touch with the DARPA Chief. This is the room where most of the major weapons and ammo are stored. There are six different Armory Storage Rooms, each holding some kind weaponry. Each of these doors can only be opened by having a high enough security level card. The first thing that you need to do is equip the THERMAL GOGGLES and locate the three trap floors in this area. The tiles that are the trap floors are brighter then any of the other floor tiles. Beware, because if you step on any of these trapdoors, you will instantly fall down to an unpleasant death. Note their positions and avoid them at all costs. Now contact the colonel. He will tell you to find some walls that have been cemented over recently. To find these walls, look at them carefully with your first person view mode. They should be of a different colour as of the surrounding walls. If you tap them, you should hear a different sound too. Equip your Level 1 security card and open the door in front of the elevator. You will find some C4 explosives in this small room. They are much more powerful than dynamites, yet more stable. Note: To use a C4 explosive, press Square near any wall. Then run a short distance away and press Circle. This will detonate the bomb. Now find the other operable room in the far corner. In it you will find some grenades. Note: To use grenades, press Square to pull pin and release it to throw. It will explode after five seconds. Be careful, it can bounce of walls and can hurt you, if you are close to the blast. Now head back so that you are facing the elevator. There are two of the so called 'fake' walls on either side of it. Set a C4 explosive on each wall, then detonate them. Enter each of the two hidden rooms. The room to the left of the elevator has some Chaff and Stun Grenades, and the room to the right of the elevator has some more C4 and some more SOCOM bullets. Next, go to the lower left (southwest) corner of the screen and look at the wall on the backside. It is also a fake one. Place a C-4 EXPLOSIVE on the cemented wall, and detonate it. The cemented wall will blow away and reveal a secret passage. ______________ | | | -ARMORY STH- | |______________| Go into it and Mei Ling will call you. She will say that there is a lot of electric interference coming and you won't be able to use your radar. Run down this hallway, and towards the end should be another walling to blow up. Do it, and then head through that hole. Once again, there is another wall towards the top of the screen to blow up. Head into that hole in the wall to fight the first boss of the game: Revolver Ocelot. ******************************** F M V ************************************* Snake quietly walks into the room and sees the President of ArmsTech, Kenneth Baker tied up to a large pillar in the center of the room. Snake wonders whether he is too late and rushes to help Baker. As Snake approaches the old man, he struggles to warn Snake not to touch the wires. Snake then notices C-4 explosives connected to the wires. After that someone in the shadows behind a pillar shoots at Snake's leg. But with lighting reflexes, Snake jumps into midair and avoids getting shot. The stranger then tells Snake that if he touches that wire the C-4 will blow up along with the old man. The man then introduces himself as FOX-HOUND member, Revolver Ocelot. He keeps twirling his gun and challenges Snake to duel. Revolver Ocelot puts his gun into his holster and says to Snake, "Draw!" ******************************** F M V ************************************* +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= __________________________________ | | | -BOSS FIGHT 01: REVOLVER OCELOT- | |__________________________________| The first boss in the game and he is more or less easy. Here are some tips to defeat him: 1. You CANNOT use any type of explosives in here, or else the room will explode, and the game will be over. 2. Do not hide behind the pillars near the entrance you just came through. Revolver is so good that he will fire a bullet near the wall near you and it will ricochet off and hit you. 3. Do not shoot President Baker or run into the C4 wires. Both will initiate a game over. 4. Revolver Ocelot's gun can hold only six bullets, and it takes him around ten seconds to reload. Use this time to your advantage. 5. He will stop at each corner randomly while reloading. 6. He will also stop at each corner to taunt Snake. You can shoot at him during this point too. To defeat Revolver Ocelot, run behind him at the start of the battle. Use the SOCOM pistol's auto aim feature to lock on to him and fire. Hold the Square button, and as you continue to hold down the Square button, hold down the X button as well. This will allow you to fire the SOCOM PISTOL as you run after Revolver Ocelot. Shoot him till his life bar gets depleted. NOTE: Another way of killing him is to hide behind the northeastern most pillar of this room. If your position is right, Revolver's bullets should whiz by you, just missing you. But you can shoot him using your SOCOM pistol's auto aim. Shoot him till his life bar gets depleted. ______________________ _______________________/ M I S S I O N L O G \______________________ | | |FOX-HOUND member Revolver Ocelot. But then Revolver Ocelot tells Snake that his luck his over, as he is just getting warming up. He jumps out from behind the outer pillar aiming his revolver straight between Snake's eyes. But at that critical second, a strange being, moving very fast slices off Ocelot's hand with a huge Japanese blade before he can shoot. Revolver falls to the ground screaming, as Snake stutters "A ghost??!!". This mysterious creature then cuts all of the wires attached to the C-4 explosives. Baker drops down to the ground before the C-4 explosives blast. The explosion sends Revolver Ocelot flying through the air before coming to a stop in midair on the wall. Revolver Ocelot quickly picks up his sliced off hand, with revolver still attached and shouts at the mysterious creature, "Can't you even die right!" Before escaping the room, Revolver Ocelot looks at Snake and tells him that he was lucky. As the mysterious creature, still partially invisible slowly walks toward Snake, Snake quickly draws his SOCOM Pistol and demands to the being to tell him his name. The creature then presses a button on its chest and reveals itself. It was apparently using stealth camouflage. Revealed before our eyes is a Cyborg Ninja, which tells Snake, "I'm like you...I have no name!" Then President Kenneth Baker, who wakes up from unconsciousness says, "That exoskeleton!" The Cyborg Ninja turns to Baker and suddenly, loses control of itself. It screams, as if in huge agony, then activates the stealth camouflage and runs away. Snake, totally bewildered, rushes to the aid of the President. Baker does not have much strength since Revolver Ocelot broke his arm and most of the bones in his body while torturing him. Baker tells Snake that they found out his detonation code, because he wasn't trained to stand the torture. Snake asks him how Baker survived Psycho Mantis' mind reading. Baker then tells Snake that important people like himself the DARPA Chief have mental shielding that blocks anyone from reading their mind. Snake gets confused and tells Baker that the DARPA Chief said that Psycho Mantis had read his mind and that was how they found out his password. Baker tells Snake that he must have misunderstood the DARPA Chief because everyone knows the detonation codes has a shield that blocks psychics from reading their mind. Baker then starts to talk about Metal Gear and how they had received the money to pay for it. Since it was a black project, the Pentagon used their black account to pay for the project. And ArmsTech gave bribes to anyone who tried to get involved in their project. Snake asks Baker if there is anyway to prevent the launch. Baker tells Snake that his Chief Engineer, Hal Emmerich knows how to destroy Metal Gear. Snake then asks the President of ArmsTech if he knows who that woman wearing the terrorist outfit is. Baker tells Snake that she stole one of the terrorists Codec. The woman and Baker had been using codec frequency to talk to each other before he tied up here. The woman and Baker were both taken hostage when the terrorist had taken over. Snake then realizes that the woman must be Meryl Silverburgh, the colonel's niece. Snake ask Baker about what is the Codec Frequency of the woman's Codec but unfortunately Baker has forgotten the Codec Frequency. Baker then remembers to looks on the back of the CD case to find Meryl's Codec Frequency. Baker then hands Snake an optical disk that has all of the information from this exercise. And gives Snake his Level Two Security Card. Snake ask Baker if he can walk, but Baker replies with that he can barely walk as it is, and tells Snake to leave him behind. Snake all of a sudden senses Baker hear start to pound heavily. Baker starts to suffer a heart attack, and he is able to get half of a sentence in before he dies, "So they actually went ahead and did it. What's the difference between the original Metal Gear Solid and the Integral version? I will answer this question and many more right here in the near future. ============================================================================ Secrets ------- The following are all the secrets you can unlock in this game. Sorry, there aren't any push button codes. Stealth: -------- Complete the game with Otacon's ending on any difficulty except Very Easy and get the stealth gear. When you start a new game and if you equip it, you will be invisible to everyone except bosses, wolves and FMV sequences. Bandana: -------- Complete the game with Meryl's ending on any difficulty except Very Easy and get the bandana. If you equip it, you can get infinite ammo. Camera: ------- It can be found in the hidden room in the armory. It is used...well, to take photos. But each photo consumes a shocking two memory card blocks! Alternate Outfits: ----------------- If you complete the game two times with both endings revealed and have Stealth and Bandana as your special items, Solid Snake, the Ninja and Meryl will have alternate outfits. Solid Snake will be wearing a tuxedo (sort of like James Bond) and the Ninja will have a red and blue suit (sort of like Spiderman). Meryl will be wearing a sneaking suit, just like Snake's. First-Person View Mode: ----------------------- The first-person view mode will be available in the special option If you have completed the game once on any difficulty except Very Easy. To switch between first person view mode and normal mode, tap triangle twice rapidly. MP 5 SD ------- This weapon works identical to the FAMAS, and is only available for Very Easy mode. It will have unlimited ammo. New Codec Frequency ------------------- The last column of the codec frequency table has been filled. You can talk to the developers of the game through this frequency. The frequency is 140.07. Unfortunately, they talk in Japanese, and I can't understand a word of it. Extreme Mode ------------- You have to beat the game once on any level difficulty to get it. Takes the normal game and makes it unbelievably hard. You get less rations, less ammo, tougher enemies, no radar, etc. Demo Theater Mode ----------------- This allows you to view all the FMV sequences of the game. You just have to beat the game once to get it. There are two rolls, Roll A is for Meryl's ending and Roll B is for Otacon's ending. Photo Album Mode ----------------- This is a photo editor, where you can save and edit the pictures you have taken. If anyone does prove to me that there is a better Metal Gear Solid player out there than me, I will remove this section at once. Or better yet, I will give you credit right here in this FAQ and offer my humble apologies to your gaming genius. So, anyone has the guts to take on my challenge?
