'- MARIO --------------------------------------------------------------------' Mario is the main man of the Mushroom Kingdom and always helps out where there is trouble. He used to be a plumber, but now it seems that he's considered the bodyguard of Princess Peach. Whenever something bad happens to her, you know that Mario will be after her. Mario and Bowser always quarrel, yet the red plumber always comes out on top. Baby Mario is just as brave and heroic as his big counterpart. He will jump into the action in a heartbeat. Baby Mario is best at fitting into small places where the big guys just can't reach. He was even saving Peach and fighting Bowser as a baby! .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- LUIGI --------------------------------------------------------------------' Luigi is Mario's younger brother. He usually doesn't follow Mario around on his quests, but they know when to team up to get the job done. Luigi may be cowardly and not as courageous as his bro, but neither could survive without the other, and both know that. Luigi tends to take the abuse throughout the game, as for that he never gets the respect that his brother does. Just like his older self, Baby Luigi is clumsy and frightened at a lot of things. He has a weird sense of humor and only stops crying when his bigger self gets whacked on the head. He's a big crybaby, but Baby Luigi also helps Baby Mario a lot in terms of fighting off Baby Bowser. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- PRINCESS PEACH -----------------------------------------------------------' Peach is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. She's always in a heap of trouble; pretty much every single game she's been in she's needed to be rescued. Her disappearance triggers Mario and Luigi to team up and find her. Baby Princess Peach isn't a big part of the game, but you get to see her. Unfortunately, she's bawling most of the time: that's what she does best. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- BOWSER -------------------------------------------------------------------' When Bowser's around, he'll be bringing destruction with him! The king of the Koopas has a strange obsession with Peach and always tries to kidnap her. Most of the time he's successful, but his plans fall short when Mario arrives to the scene. If there's carnage about, you can expect Bowser to be behind it. There are some strange and dire situations where Bowser and the Mario Bros. team up, but don't expect them to get along at all. Baby Bowser is just as reckless and foul-mouthed as he is in the present. He was still up to his lame antics as a kid, and just like now, he's always getting beat. Strangely enough, Baby Bowser wears more clothes than he does in the present. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- THE SHROOBS --------------------------------------------------------------' The Shroob invaders are a race of aliens that resemble giant mushrooms. Led by the evil Princess Shroom, they try to take over Mushroom Kingdom and make it their home. They successfully take over Peach's Castle in the past as their own. It's up to Mario and Luigi to go back in time and take the castle back for their own! There are many kinds of Shroobs, and they all possess deadly weapons and fleets of UFO's to carry out their evil plans. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- STUFFWELL ----------------------------------------------------------------' Stuffwell is a cute little suitcase made by Professor E. Gadd. He's not just a normal bag, for he can talk! He is very smart and has a lot of knowledge about the Mushroom Kingdom in the past and present. He will teach you new abilities as well as guide you through the basics of the game. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- TOADSWORTH ---------------------------------------------------------------' Toadsworth is the caretaker of Peach and is very protective of her. He never lets her out of his sight and tends to panic over little things. Expect him to be prancing around and yelling all the time. The past and present Toadsworth team up to teach Mario and Luigi new valuable attacks. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- PROFESSOR E. GADD --------------------------------------------------------' E. Gadd is a very reliable and smart scientist. He hasn't played many big roles in the past games, but he's here now to help out Mario and Luigi. He created the time machine that transported Peach to the past. His invention sprouts time holes throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, and they are the key to time travel. He's the man to go to if you need an objective to complete. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- KAMEK --------------------------------------------------------------------' Kamek once tried to kidnap Baby Mario before, but he was defeated. Kamek is a Magikoopa and is the babysitter of Baby Bowser. He has to deal with all the stuff that the little prince gives him, and it's obviously a stressful job. He stands in the way of Mario and Luigi several times. ______________________________________________________________________________ [4] THE BASICS [0400] ______________________________________________________________________________ .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- TIME TRAVELLING, OH MY ---------------------------------------------------' Time travelling plays a gigantic role in Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. Mysterious time holes will open up around Peach's Castle, which lead to the past. Talk to Professor E. Gadd to get a new objective. If you look on the map, it shows each time hole with a marker showing where it leads. Some time holes are first unaccessable. Check back once you learn a new move that may enable you to reach it. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- GO TEAM ------------------------------------------------------------------' Teamwork is a very important factor in this game. Most puzzles in the game need to be solved by either using each other or splitting up. Remember that when you learn to piggyback, you can throw the babies to higher ground. Like I stated earlier, the babies can fit into smaller areas that the adults can't reach. Slip Baby mario or Baby Luigi into a tunnel or small hole and they can usually find a switch to open up a path. To split up, press X or Y. To reunite, walk up to the other team. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- BATTLES AND TIMING -------------------------------------------------------' Timing is everything in battles. They can either let you dodge attacks or deal more damage. If Mario uses a jump attack, press A right before hitting the enemy to deal more damage. If you jump with Luigi, do the same but press B instead of A. Baby Mario needs to hit X for extra damage, and Baby Luigi hits Y. For using hammers, it's pretty much the same way. When you use a hammer, press the character's designated button when the hammer shakes. You will deal more damage to the enemy that way. Piggyback battles start to make the battle more confusing. If you use a jump attack (let's use Mario/Baby Mario for an example), press X when you're about to hit the enemy for Baby Mario to land on him. Mario will flip in the air and fall on the enemy. If you hit A right before Mario lands, he'll deal more damage. It's the same with Luigi/Baby Luigi, except you must hit Y and B. To use a hammer, press A when the hammer shakes to have Mario raise up Baby Mario, then hit X when the baby's hammer shakes to deal a large sum of damage. Once again, press B and Y for Luigi/Baby Luigi. You can also dodge enemies attacks. All enemies have some sort of attack pattern that help you dodge attacks. Let's use a Boo Guy as an example. He will point before he uses his attack. If Boo Guy points to the right, he will hit Mario. If he points to the left, he'll attack Luigi. Some enemies will use red and green as a symbol for whom they are attacking. Keep your eyes peeled for these symbols. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- AN EXPERIENCED FIGHTER ---------------------------------------------------' For each battle you win, the surviving Mario Bros. will gain an number of experience points. You will level up after gaining a certain amount of experience points. When you gain a level, these attributes will increase: Heart Points (HP) = This should be obvious: it's your health. If it reaches zero, then that character dies. If both bros die, then it's game over for you. Bros Points (BP) = Like most RPGs have MP, Superstar Saga has Bros Points. These allow you to use Bros Attacks; if it reaches zero, then you cannot use said attacks. Power = The higher it is, the more damage you'll deal to enemies. Defense = The higher it is, the less damage you'll receive from enemies. Speed = Determines what order the players go in battle in regards to the enemies. Stache = The higher it is, the bigger discount you get on shop items. It also boosts your chance of a critical hit. After you level up, you will get to raise one attribute as a bonus. When the Lakitu appears with the spinning wheel, move it down to the attribute you want to increase more. The wheel will spin and press A to stop it. Whatever number it lands on is how much the stat will increase. For instance, let's say your HP is currently at 35 and you want to use a bonus on it. You stop the wheel and get 4. Now your HP is raised to 39. It's that simple! .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- NEW MOVES ----------------------------------------------------------------' Throughout the course of the game, the adults as well as the babies can learn several abilities. These abilities cannot be used in battles, but they are helpful for accessing new areas which were not accessible earlier or just simply progressing through the game. Here is a list of the abilities that you can learn: -- Spin Jump -- Use: Adults Learned From: Toadsworth after Vim Factory Description: Press B when selected for Luigi to hop on Mario's shoulders and hit A to fly for a short distance. -- Bros. Ball -- Use: Adults Learned From: Toadworth after Yoob's Belly Description: When selected, press A to have both bros curl up into a ball. Now you can access smaller areas and cover terrain faster. -- Baby Drill -- Use: Babies Learned From: Hammer Bros. after defeating them Description: When selected, press Y for Baby Luigi to hop on Baby Mario, then press Y again to drill in the ground. Used for going under gates or collecting beans. Press Y to re-emerge. ______________________________________________________________________________ [5] WALKTHROUGH [0500] ______________________________________________________________________________ "BACK TO ADVENTURE!" ============================================================================== PEACH'S CASTLE [0501] ============================================================================== You will immediately start off as Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. Toadsworth arrives as you're scheduled for a playdate with Baby Princess Peach. Use the D-Pad to go up and enter the throne room. Once inside, Baby Bowser will try to kidnap Baby Peach again. Baby Mario will confront him in battle as Baby Luigi guards Baby Peach. This is merely a training battle; you can't lose. Toadsworth will teach you the basics to fighting. Hit X to use a jump attack, and press X right before you land to deal extra damage to Baby Bowser. Baby Bowser's fireball attack can be avoided by pressing X at the right time. Toadsworth will hold your hand through the whole thing. Once you defeat Baby Bowser, the castle will be under fire from the Shroobs. The alien attack will continue as the game changes to the present time. ============================================================================== PEACH'S CASTLE [0502] ============================================================================== As the game switches to the present time, you will take control of Mario and Luigi. Professor E. Gadd will say that the Princess used his new time machine to venture into the past with two Toad bodyguards. Toadsworth is his usual self and worries himself until he faints. A Toad asks Mario to go to Toadworth's room to retrive a Refreshroom. This is where you can learn the basics of the game. The top screen is used as a map. The little Mario face shows your current location and the hand that's pointing to the room in the bottom left corner is your destination. First, let's explore a bit. Go through the doorway to the left to enter a hallway. Hit all the boxes to find a Mushroom and some coins. The right hallway contains another Mushroom and a few coins. The room right below the throne room has a save point in it. Jump up and hit it to save your game. There is a Heart Block here which is used to restore your HP. The two stairwells hold Mushrooms and more coins. Go down to enter the courtyard. Go to the right to another part of the courtyard, then go up into the room. Jump up to find a 1-Up and coins. Return to the courtyard and go left this time. Continue left through the door and you'll enter Toadsworth's Room. Hit the block to get a Refreshroom. Mario will return to the throne room and revive Toadsworth. As that happens, E. Gadd's time machine plummets on screen. The machine is totally busted, though. Everyone rushes over to it, thinking the Princess is inside, but a monster jumps out! Luigi runs away, so it's just Mario fighting this guy! The Junior Shrooboid is really easy and serves as another training battle. Toadsworth will refresh Mario's memory on how to fight battles. Press A to jump and right before you land on its head, press A again to deal extra damage. Its spinning attack is easy to dodge. Jump when it approaches you to dodge. If you jump a little bit earlier, you can counterattack by jumping on its head. Once the beast is defeated, the battle will end. Mario will gain a level! Use the bonus meter to raise a stat. To be honest, you should only use the bonus on HP or Attack. When Junior Shrooboid is defeated, a loud crash is heard in the courtyard. Mario and Luigi rush over to see what the problem is. E. Gadd says that a time hole has appeared and can be used to travel in the past. Mario says that he'll use these to rescue the princess! Mario and Luigi head into the time hole which leads them into the past, hoping to find traces of the princess. ============================================================================== HOLLIJOLLI VILLAGE [0503] ============================================================================== Mario and Luigi arrive at the outskirts of Hollijolli village. Before the time hole disappears, a little guy hops out of the time hole right on top of Luigi. He introduces himself as Stuffwell, a special suitcase invented by Professor E. Gadd to aid the two on their journey. He will go over the basics of the gameplay, as well as give you information on the surrounding area and such. Save at the save point ahead and head to the next area. Stuffwell will teach you how to jump here! Press A for Mario to jump and B for Luigi. Jump up the ledges and hit all the blocks to get 2 Mushrooms, coins, and a 1-Up. When you head over the the gaps, Stuffwell will explain how if you hit A and B simultaneously, both plumbers will jump. With that said, jump over the gaps to the colored blocks. the red M blocks can only be hit by Mario, and thesame goes for Luigi and the green L blocks. Hit them all with the designated characters for some coins, and the path will open. Head up the stairs to the next area. In this small field, a Toad will fall to the ground and tell the adults that Hollijolli Village is being attacked. Not long after, some UFO's will come to the scene and abduct the poor Toad. Mario and Luigi flee as the spaceships head to the village. Here you will encounter your first random enemy! Stuffwell advises that you jump on the little spinning mushroom. When you jump on the little guy, you'll start the battle. This is another training battle, except that when it's Luigi's turn, all of the commands will be used with the B button, as opposed to the A button and Mario. Once you defeat them, the battle will end. Take out all of the Shrooblets (that's their name) on the field. Continue up the ramps and defeat all of the enemies on the field. Once the bad guys are done (Luigi should have gained a level), proceed into the town. The UFOs will be attacking the town, and then they will leave. The first house holds 3 Mushrooms and a coin. The southern house has 3 blue coins and regular coins. The center house holds a save point, so save your game. Head to the house at the top right of the desolate town to find the mayor stuck in his chimney. Jump under him to send him out of the chimney to the outside. Unfortunately, he will fall right into the alien invaders, the Shroobs. Head out of the house and try to save the mayor! Unfortunately, you will be too late and the UFOs will abduct him. The Shroobs left behind will confront the two of you and set up a battle! First off, let me tell you that you can't win this battle. The Shroobs will launch a UFO on the top screen with a timer. When it reaches zero, the battle ends. The Shroobs have easy attacks to dodge. They will run up in the middle of the screen and point their gun. If the gun shines, then it will shoot at Mario. If it twirls the gun, then it'll shoot at Luigi. Attack them until the battle abruptly ends. ============================================================================== KOOPA CRUISER [0504] ============================================================================== The tide will switch over to the babies now. Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Peach are all in a room until Shroobs start to attack the cruiser. Baby Bowser tells all officials to report to the ship's bridge, and that includes you two. Exit the room and walk up to the Koopa for a lesson on jumping. Press X for Mario and Y for Luigi. Simple. Jump over the crates and hit the blocks for a Mushroom and a coin. The M and L blocks hold coins, a Mushroom, a 1-Up, and a Mushroom Drop. In the next area, grab the coins from the block and jump up the crates to get to the other side. Save at the save point and head to the bridge. The Koopa Cruiser will continue to be attacked by the Shroobs. Unfortunately for the aliens, the Koopa Cannon is too much for them. The ship spots Mario and Luigi, and they land in an effort to help the duo out. You will manage to take out one of them automatically, so you only have to deal with two in the battle. With the babies, head to where you fought the Shroobs. Time for some payback! In this battle, Toadsworth will provide the babies with a Bros. Item. These items can be used to attack your opponents and require quick thinking and button mashing. He will give you a green shell, which is the easiest to use. Have Baby Mario use it. Press X to kick it and it will bounce off the enemy and go to Baby Luigi. When it reaches him, press Y to kick it back at the enemy. It will ricochet to Baby Mario, and you will press X. The Shroobs have the same attacks, so there should be no worries. Keep going back and forth until the Shroobs are dead. ============================================================================== BOWSER'S CASTLE [0505] ============================================================================== Baby Bowser and his crew will be under attack by more Shroobs after recieving a transmission from Princess Shroob. In this dire situation, he is forced to retreat to his castle. Of course, something bad has to happen and the adults get split up from the rest of the gang. Save at the nearby save point and start exploring the castle. The two blocks at the start of the screen holds 2 Mushrooms and 8 Green Shells. Go across the bridge and head down. The next bridge has a block with a 1-Up in it. Go back and take the other path to find 4 Green Shells, and head into the next area. First off, take out all the enemies (you will find Goombas for the first time here) and snatch all the items on the bottom floor. You may notice a small "X" on the ground in the top right part of the area. Don't worry about it for now. Return to the entrance to find a staircase. Go up them and walk across the narrow walkway to the other side. When you reach the red platform, the adults and babies will meet up. Stuffwell will teach you how to carry around the babies, also known as piggyback. Simply walk over to the babies when in control of the adults to pick them up, and vice versa if in control of the babies. When piggyback, press X or Y to throw the babies. This is very useful to cover high ground. Afterwards, you can control the adults by pressing A or B and the babies by pressing X or Y. You will come across blue switches throughout the game. Walk on it when all four players are together to activate it. once the lesson is over, walk across the platform and up the stairs. Use your newly learned technique and step on the blue switch with all four players to open the door. The next area is simple to pass through. Press X or Y next to the ledge to launch the babies on top. As the babies, hit the warp block to transport the adults to your location. Step on the group switch to open the door and head through. There is a wall to the left with a small hole in it. The adults can't head in, but babies can. Control the babies through the hole and hit the blocks to get some coins and a 1-Up. Return to the adults and collect the other items here. The next area requires you to split up again. Throw the babies up on the high ledge and save at the save block. Regroup using the warp pipe and throw the babies up to the next ledge. Have them hit the purple Event Block. That lowers the platform to the side, allowing the adults to get up. Regroup and step on the blue switch to open the door. You will meet up with Kamek, who's getting annoyed at the bros' tresspassing. As punishment, he forces a Boo and some other enemies on you. Use this as practice for piggyback attacks. To jump with Mario, press A right before you land on the enemy to send the baby in the air, then press X as he comes down on the baddy. Same goes for Luigi/Baby Luigi, except use B and Y to utilize the attack. Practice using Bros. Items as well to defeat the enemies. Once the coast is clear, head up the stairs and across the bridge. Watch out for Boom Guys and collect the green shell. Proceed across the series of bridges to the next location. Step in the warp pipe ahead with all four guys to head to another part of the castle. Save here and go right. Grab the green shells and toss the babies up on the ledge. Use them to enter the tunnel and hit the Event Block, which lowers a bridge near the adults. Regroup and cross over to the blue switch. Step on it and enter the opened door. Once again, you'll have to use the babies to get to higher ground. Throw them up on the ledge and have them hit the Event Block once they enter the tunnel. This makes another bridge near the adults. As the adults, cross over to the multi-colored blocks. These are Simultaneous Blocks. You must line up Mario and Luigi under each one. When you hit the solid one, the clear block next to it will become solid. Quickly hit that one with the bro under it. This will lower a platform for the babies. As the little tikes, jump up the platforms and activate the Simultaneous Blocks. Jump across the platforms ahead and exit to find anotherpair of Simultaneous Blocks. Hit them with the babies to raise a bridge for the adults. Use the adults to regroup with the babies and go across the newlymade bridge. Step on the blue switch and enter the next room. Ah, the last room of the castle! Going straight leads you to a block with a blue coin. Go to the left past the cage after collecting it to find a Shine Block. Throw the babies on the ledge and have them enter the room. It's pitch black in the room, but have no fear! Use the adults to hit the Shine Block. Have Mario hit it when it's red and Luigi when it's green. Hit the block to light up the room with the babies in it, revealing a narrow bridge above a spike pit. Start to walk across the bridge. If the light goes out, hit the Shine Block with the designated character. If you ever hit the block with the wrong character, a fireball will shoot out and hit the babies, sending them to the beginning of the bridge. Keep doing this until the babies are on the other end. Exit the room and drop down in the cage. Open the chest to find Shard #1. This shard is a piece of the Cobalt Star. It is used to power up E. Gadd's time machine, so it must be useful. With the shard in hand, you will return to Peach's Castle. ============================================================================== PEACH'S CASTLE [0506] ============================================================================== You will appear near the courtyard. You can go and talk to the professor now, but take a gander at the new shop open, which is located in the room under the right stairwell. Take a visit and stock up on some equipment. Afterwards, head on to the throne room and talk to E. Gadd. After further inspection, the star shard will create another time hole. The bros also learn that there is a connection between the shards and the Shroobs, and that collecting more shards will surely defeat the invaders. E. Gadd will also give you a badge as Stuffwell teaches you how to use them. Once you're ready, exit the throne room and save/heal, then head to the new time portal, which leads to Toadwood Forest. ============================================================================== TOADWOOD FOREST [0507] ============================================================================== Woo, we're in a nice forest now! Better than some murky old castle. From the starting point, save and go to the only open path. Here, you will find some tree stumps. You can use the babies and throw them into the stumps, in which you'll find nice items or even enemies. First off, collect all the items on ground level, then throw the babies in the left and middle trees. You will find coins and a Mushroom Drop. The right trunk holds a Koopleon, so go in and take it out. Once the area is salvaged, continue north to the next area. You will encounter one of Peach's bodyguards strapped to a tree. The poor Toad will explain that that trees' energy is being drained away and used to power the Shroob UFO's. This energy, Vim, is transported to a factory deep in the forest. He asks that you stop the transplanting process. Before he can finish, a UFO shoots a beam at him, turning the unfortunate Toad into a mushroom. Anyways, on ho. The tree up ahead holds coins and a Super Mushroom, so make sure to grab it. Go right to the next area for more tree trunk fun. Grab the Fire Flowers from the blocks and chuck the babies into the first hole. You will find an Elasto- Piranha, so take it out. Take out the Boo Guys at ground level, then collect the coins and Green Shells in the next tree trunk. Head down the ramps to the next area of the forest. Trees block the northern path, so go down the steps and collect the 1-Up before going left. You will find a series of small tree trunks and empty blocks. The trunks are too high for the babies to be thrown into, but the one in the lower left corner is accessible by the toddlers. Throw them in to enter a large cave. With the babies, defeat the enemies and hit the fire blocks to make fire shoot up out of the tall trunks and into the empty blocks. Do a lap around the cave, hitting all the fire out of the blocks and into the empty ones. When all the empty blocks are filled with fire, use the adults to hit them. One by one, they will fall into a large block in the center of the tree trunk ring. Once they are all inside the large block, hit it to send a huge fireball at the trees, burning them down and giving you access to the northern path. Regroup using the warp pipe and head past the burnt trees to the next area. Enter the warp pipe to teleport to another part of the forest. Save here and head to the next part of the woods. The right trunk is empty, but throw the babies into the one to the left for coins and Unarmed Jeans. Take the northern path. The path ahead leading to Vim Factory is blocked off by some water. You will have to take the right path instead. This next part is a little challenging, yet neat. Collect the coins at the top and throw the babies in the stump. You will find a block with arrows on them. Control the adults and have them stand on the platfrom next to the spike pit. As the babies, you must move the platfrom across the spike pit? How? The arrows on the block will change every second or two. When the arrow that you want the platform to move appears, hit it. Sor example, if an arrow poining right appears, jump and hit the block to have the platform with the adults on it move to the right. You must hit the block again to stop it. With that said, have the platform move right to the first path. Stop the platform and have the adults get off. Jump up the stairs to the left to find a Wallet Badge, then descend the stairs to the right and go across the bridge. Use the warp pipe to reunite the gang. Have the babies explore the tree trunk to find coins and Green Shells, then return to the center of the area to find Fire Flowers on a pillar to the right. Go under the large totem pole thingy, and jump with Mario. With Mario in the air, press X to have Baby Mario jump off his shoulders and hit the block. With that done, four Simultaneous Blocks will appear. Hit them one by one until the totem pole is activated. The next area holds another spike pit. Throw the babies in the trunk to the left, then control the platform (with the adults on it) to the right. When you reach the yellow platform, use the adults to jump over it. When you reach the Event Block, hit it to lower a platform next to the tree trunk. Now you can use the babies to enter the next area and reunite. Collect the Mushroom, 1-Up and various coins in the next area. Do the same thing with the Simultaneous Blocks as you did before to activate the second totem pole. With the two activated, a platform appears at the entrance of Vim Factory. Go south to the next area, which is one giant spike pit. Various platforms are found above the giant pit. They hold coins, Green Shells, a 1-Up Super, Fire Flowers, and Wild Trousers. Use the directional block in the tree trunk to navigate the bros around on the platform. Collect all the items, then go down to find a platform at the bottom right corner, which leads back near the entrance of Vim Factory. Go up to the entrance and jump on the platform to enter the factory. ============================================================================== VIM FACTORY [0508] ============================================================================== The first thing to do when you enter the factory is to enter the warp pipe, which leads you deeper in the factory. Save here and step on the blue switch to enter a new area. This area is guarded by Hammer Bros. They have been controlled by the helmets on their heads, which were made by the Shrooms so that they can guard the factory. Fortunately for us, their L33T speak makes for a very entertaining skit. In fact, the scene with the brainwashed Hammer Bros. is most definitely one of the best in the entire game. Fortunately for them, the adults are taken away by...a giant nostril machine?! Now it's up to the babies to defeat these goons, and it won't be a walk in the park. Err, factory... +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Hammer Bros. HP: 100 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | The Hammer Bros. are the first boss of the game, and they aren't tough, | | considering you only have the babies to fight them. Their main attack | | consists of one bro hitting the other one, which is curled into a ball. | | He is flung at one of the babies. Jump with whomever is being targeted | | at. Make sure to jump a tad earlier to counterattack and deal some | | damage to the attacker. | | | | Their second attack isn't used as much when both are alive. One Hammer | | Bro will throw numerous hammers at the babies. If the top of the hammer | | falls off, then do not jump; it will pass over your head. If the weapon | | stays in tact, then jump to avoid getting hit by the it. Determining | | who is going to get hit is easy; just see which baby the hammer is | | heading towards. | | | | These guys have a lot of HP compared to the toddlers, but the fight | | should now take a long time. If you counterattack nearly every turn in | | fact, the battle should end quite quickly. This is a great opportunity | | to use some Bros. Items, as well as test out Fire Flowers if you | | haven't already. You should have plenty of the items by now, so keep | | using them. When only one Hammer Bro stands, the battle is a lot | | easier, so start to normally attack and conserve your Bros. Items. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ When you defeat the Hammer Bros, their brainwashing helmets will break off. Feeling guilty for their actions, the two will reward the babies with hammers and teach you how to use them! Press R to switch to your hammer, then press X for Baby Mario to slam the hammer to the ground. It is used to break boxes and activate switches. Press Y for Baby Luigi to hop on Baby Mario's shoulders. Press Y again to send the pair spinning underground. Now you can travel underground; great for tunneling under gates. You can use this technique, Baby Drill, to uncover beans. Drill underground near an "X" mark on the ground, then press Y under the "X" mark to come up and uncover a bean. With the new hammers in hand, step on the yellow switch to the left and enter the doorway. You'll have to put your hammers to the test in the next couple rooms. Baby drill under the gate to enter a large room. First off, the gated area in the lower left corner holds some Mushrooms, so grab them. Head to the gated area at the top right corner and drill under it. Hop up on the stairs and go down around the edge of the room. Drop down into the closed area and hit the switch on the wall with your hammer. Jump up the stairs and go left this time. A gap will be in your way, so jump with both babies to the ledge across. Drop down into the closed-off area immediately after crossing the gap and hit the switch. Drill under the gate and jump up the stairs. When on the ledge again, drop down to ground level. The two switches activated some ledges at the top of the room. Jump up the ledges and enter the small doorway, which leads into the air ducts. The southern path leads to a dead end. Go down the path anyways because you'll find some Refreshing Herbs there. Go back and head left this time. Follow the path until you find an enemy. When you battle with the Spiny Shroopa, the Hammer Bros. will return to teach you how to attack with your hammers. Their spiny carapace will damage you if you jump on it. To attack, press the designated button for whomever is attacking (remember to select Hammer). When the baby holds the hammer above their head, press the designated button when the hammer shakes to deal extra damage. When the Spiny Shroopa hops forwards to attack, hold down the designated button for whomever is getting attacked. Release it to send the hammer crashing down on it. Alrighty, once that's down, go down the first path to find a Mushroom Drop, then take the second path to get out of the air duct. Drill under the left gate in the next room to find coins, Refreshing Herbs, a bean, and Unarmed Jeans. Take the right path to enter a large room. There is a huge tree in the middle of the room. Smash the four lightbulbs surrounding the tree to make the tree sneeze out the adults! With the adults in hand, use them to throw the babies on the ledge in the corner. Hit the switch to open the door, then head through to return to where you fought the Hammer Bros. Head through the door and defeat all of the Lakitufos and Dr. Shroobs. Grab the Cannonballers from the block and enter the doorway. Step into the warp pipe, and when you emerge, save your game. Snag the Refreshing Herbs in the left side of the room and use the babies to drill under the gate. Hit the switch with your hammer and go through the newly opened door. You can use the warp pipe in the next room to regroup. Send the babies onto the upper ledge and have them hit the switch once they enter the room. This will lower a force field, allowing the adults the progress on the lower floor. Now use the Simultaneous Blocks to create a bridge for the babies to cross. On the other side, do the same with the nextswitch and the Simultaneous Blocks to clear your path. Exit the small roomwith the babies to end up on a ledge above the adults. Go to the other sideand hit the two switches to open two doors. Head through the left door and head down the hallway. Go through the doorway to the left. The strange block up ahead is a 4-Bros. Block. Hit it (you need to use Baby Mario for extra height) to start the game. Each bro will stand under a block. When the light travels to a block, hit it with the bro that's under it. Keep it up to earn coins. Anyways, head back to the hallway. Take the right path this time and grab the Cannonballers and Fire Flowers. Enter the doorway to the right. This next room will hold a similar puzzle like the ones in Toadwood Forest. Use the babies to get to the upper ledge and enter the room. Use the direction block to control where the adults go on the platform. Move them across the electrical field to the platform in the center. Use the adults to hit the event block to raise up the bridges for the babies. Stay where you are though, and use the platform to guide the adults to the other side, while collecting items on the way. Now use the Simultaneous Blocks to clear the path for the babies. Regroup and step on the blue switch. Here we go, save and prepare for a boss battle. When you're ready, step on the blue switch and head through the door. You'll find a large caterpillar. From the looks of it, the large bug is drinking a seemingly endless supply of Vim out of a glass. The babies run over and knock the glass of Vim over. Not good, now the thing is pissed. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Swiggler HP: 250 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Swiggler is a lot tougher than the previous boss battle; he has a lot | | more HP and he's accompanied by two Dr. Shroobs. Let's first talk about | | Swiggler's attacks. Swiggler will sometimes shoot out purple clouds at | | the bros. Smash them with your hammer (you'll have to hit two) to avoid | | taking damage. | | | | If Swiggler takes a gulp of Vim, then two UFO's will rush onto the | | scene. They will shoot laser beams at the bros. Carefully jump over the | | blasts as they come your way. The lower UFO will attack Luigi and the | | higher one will go after Mario. Sometimes they switch, so watch out for | | that simple note. | | | | The glass of Vim is the key to winning the battle. Do not attack | | Swiggler when he's red: it'll deal little damage and he will just | | counterattack with a shockwave. The Dr. Shroobs will hold items in | | their hand: either a Mushroom or a Poison Mushroom. | | | | Attack the Dr. Shroob when it holds a Poison Mushroom. This will cause | | the poisoned food to land in the glass of Vim. If you attack a Dr. | | Shroob with a Mushroom and it falls into the glass, then it will heal | | Swiggler. When Swiggler takes a drink of the poisoned drink, it will | | turn green and get sick. Now this is your cue to attack. | | | | Use jump attacks and Green Shells to damage Swiggler when it is | | vulnerable. It will end up going back to normal after several turns | | though. Focus on the Dr. Shroobs if they have a Poison Mushroom in | | their hands. If they have a normal one, let them eat it. Sure, they'll | | become more powerful, but it's better than the giant bug getting | | healed. Be patient and keep poisoning Swiggler at all times. It's a | | long battle, but a pretty easy one at that. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ You'll get Cobalt Star Shard #2, only until Baby Bowser makes his appearance. The crafty Koopa will steal both shards and take off. With the stench of defeat, the group will return to Peach's castle. ============================================================================== PEACH'S CASTLE [0509] ============================================================================== When you meet up with E. Gadd, he will explain that time holes have popped up all over the castle! You can't access your main destination now, so save and head to the garden. The Toadsworths will try to please Baby Peach with a spin jump. After a failed attempt, Luigi asks that they teach the move to the bros. Press R to select the move, then press B to have Luigi hop on Mario's shoulders. Press B again to have the two spin. You can cover far distances with this move. Just go through the training course and you'll be fine. When you're done, head to the shop and buy some new clothes and badges. Afterwards, go up the stairs when you exit the shop and step on the switch to enter the doorway. Save your game here. Grab the items in the area to the right, then go left through the library and collect the items here. Go back to the library once you collect the items. Step on the low bookcases and make your way to the top. Spin Jump to the left to find a Training Badge in the block. Go all the way to the right bookcase to find a Super Mushroom. Now go back to the previous bookcase and Spin Jump to the ledge. Collect the 1-Up Super to the right and use the warp pipe to regroup. Once ready, step in the time hole to be sent to a very familiar area. ============================================================================== YOSHI'S ISLAND [0510] ============================================================================== Well, we haven't been here in a game for a while now! Exit the time and head right towards the town. Enter the house to the right for a Shroom Badge and a save point. Save your game and now make your way to the house to the left. Once you enter, you'll meet up with Kylie Koopa, ace reporter! She'll fill you in on what's been going on around here. Have the babies step on the jump pad to launch up into the attic, where they'll find numerous Yoshis hiding for their lives. They run away right after, only to meet up with the monstrous Yoob. The poor Yoshis get eaten by the hideous dino as it leaves. Head to the house next to you when the coast is clear. You will find good ol' Kamek, who is looking for cookies at the request of Baby Bowser. He will high- tail it out of there once the bros confront him. After encountering Yoob (and not getting eaten by him; Kamek must not taste good), he will run out of the town. Follow him through the northern house and save inside. Collect the Smash Eggs, then exit the town. Pass through the houses until you reach a warp pipe. Enter to travel deep into the heart of the island. Save your game and head to the next area. After meeting up with Kamek once more, he will fly up in the air and shoot fireballs all over the place. He leaves you to deal with the flames as the Magikoopa makes his getaway. Stuffwell will teach you to spit water. Lead Baby Mario to the fountain and he'll start drinking the water and getting fat. You can use Baby Luigi to hit Baby Mario by pressing Y. When Baby Mario gets hit, he will shoot out a drop of water. It's great for... extinguishing flames! With a new technique at hand, extinguish the flame blocking your path and head on. Watch out for Pidgits in the next area as you collect Smash Eggs and coins. Use the jump pad to send the babies up on the clouds. Take out the Gnarantulas and grab the many items here. Go back down and enter the next area. You can't reach any of the ledges yet; they are too high for the babies to go. Instead, go right to find another flame in front of a block. Use the babies to go up in the clouds using the jump pad in the right hand corner. Next, defeat the enemies and grab the items, including Heart Pants. Gulp up some water in the corner and use the babies to shoot water in the strange purple device near where you entered. This will shoot water down on top of the flame and extinguish it. Regroup and hit the Event Block to make a large block platform appear in the previous area. Once in the previous area, use the platform to get up on the ledge and head down the path. Collect all the coins and beans here, as well as Mushrooms. Jump up the steps at the top and use the babies to drill under the gate. Once in the cave, destroy the enemies and collect some Smash Eggs and coins. Fill up with water and stand near a pipe and shoot water. They will come out of the cave and extinguish the flames that were resting on top of the pillars outside. Do the same with the other pipe to extinguish the second flame. Now use the Spin Jump with the adults to hit the next Event Block. This will cause another block platform to appear. Return to the previous area to access another ledge. Head down through the jungle until you come to a dead end. There will be a set of strange blocks with pipes attached to them, similar to the one that you used to extinguish the first flame that led you to the red Event Block. If you jump and hit them, they will rotate. I'll provide a diagram on how they should look. .---------------------------------------. | | | | | | +---+ +---+ +-----+ | | | |-- --| | | J | | | +---+ +---+ +-----+ | J - Jump Pad | | | ! - Event Block | | F - Flame | | | | | | | | | | +---+ +---+ | | | |-- --| | | | +---+ +---+ | | | | | +---+ | | | ! | | | +---+ | | | | +-----+ | | | F | | | +-----+ | | | '-------------------. .---------' | | Sorry for the sheer crappiness of the diagram, but hopefully it helps. When you have it positioned like that, shoot a water through the pipe to extinguish the flame. Now jump up on the ledge and hit the final Event Block. Return to the area with all the platforms (regroup first) and jump up on the final platform to continue your journey. Take out the Coconutters and grab the Green Shells before proceeding on. Step in the warp pipe to continue through the jungle. Once you get out of the pipe, save and split up. Use the babies to go to the left until you find a jump pad. Jump up into the cloud above and take out the enemies. Collect the items and drop down through the hole in the cloud to end up on a ledge. With the adults, jump up on the platforms and spin jump through the twister. The twister will give you the extra boost needed to reach the ledge. Keep spin jumping until you meet up with the babies. Regroup and continue on. Grab all the items here and fill up on water using the fountain. Extinguish the last flame and head on. We're almost done! Have the babies shoot up into the clouds to find a crapload of items. Drop down and regroup, then step on the blue switch to enter the doorway. Save your game and proceed to start a scene. You'll find Bowser and Kamek at the end of the jungle path. As the babies gobble up all of Baby Bowser's cookies, he'll get pissed. He flees and tells Kamek to deal with the bros. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Kamek HP: 450 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Kamek has a lot more HP than previous bosses, but the battle will most | | likely be a quick one for you. His most common attack is not one to | | worry about. Kamek will fly in front of one of the bros and start to | | launch spiked balls up in the air. Ready your hammer and smack them | | away when they come down on you. | | | | If done correctly, the balls will come back and land on Kamek's head, | | dealing some damage to the Magikoopa. Kamek will sometimes throw in | | Mushrooms, just to confuse you. Don't hit them back, or you will heal | | him. Let them land on top of you and you will get healed instead! | | | | Kamek will create three clones just to add on to the annoyance. They | | all get to attack, so stay on your toes. You can easily take out the | | clones if Kamek uses the spike ball attack. When you hit them back, | | they will hit different clones. Keep attacking the clones until you | | find the real one. Once Kamek is all by himself, give him your fiercest | | attacks, as well as use Fire Flowers. | | | | Kamek has one last attack that is pretty annoying. He will land on the | | ground and shoot a fireball at you. It's simple to dodge; just jump | | over it. The tricky part is when the fire returns to Kamek. It will hit | | him, and he'll get pumped up. Out of nowhere, the Magikoopa will charge | | at either bro. Be ready with both bros' hammers and hit him as he | | charges you. | | | | Now that Kamek is on the ground, you can use items such as Green Shells | | to damage him. Kamek has a reasonable amount of HP, but the battle | | should be over in no time. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once you defeat Kamek, run to the dead end to find Baby Bowser. He will eat the two Cobalt Shards, you know, since the babies ate his cookies. Before you can get him to spit the shards up, Yoob will make an appearance up on the cliff. Some UFOs will come and shoot him with laser beams, making him a lot huger than he was before! The nasty dino will eat the group, along with Baby Bowser. Eww! ============================================================================== YOOB'S BELLY [0511] ============================================================================== Now how about that? You just got your ass eaten! After the gang wakes up, dig up all the beans and save your game to the left. Launch the babies into the holes (watch out for Bullies!) and grab the items and coins, especially the fruit. Talk to the Yoshi nearby to give him the fruit. He'll get all happy and start and escape plan. He needs more help from his dino friends, so I guess you will be Yoshi hunting! First off, head through the center pathway and grab the Ice Flowers and coins, as well as Puffy Trousers. Now you can return to the hub room where you first came from. Take the top left path and use the babies to hammer the colored pegs. This opens up a gate next to you. Now, drill under the gate. Once underground, enter the small shaft. Here, you'll have to match up the colored bulbs with the bulbs in front of the door in the previous room. You can switch to the adults constantly to see the pattern, but I have a diagram of the colors: +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ | B | | B | | Y | | Y | | R | | B | | R | | Y | +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+ | Y | | R | | B | | R | | Y | | Y | | B | | B | +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ +---+ B - Blue Y - Yellow R - Red With that said, complete the puzzle to open up the door in the previous room. Regroup and head through. Talk to the Yoshi and he will help out the other in their quest to push a giant boulder down Yoob's intestines! Brilliant plan, I must say. Return to the hub-like room and hit the Heart Block if needed. Save, then head past the save block into the room. Here, defeat the RC Shroob and you will gain respect of another Yoshi as he helps out the others. This time, take the right path to find an RC Shroob torturing a Yoshi with a toy UFO. Drill under the gate with the babies and enter the room. Fill up on water, then use the babies to spit out water through the window. Aim for the UFO as it whizzes around and hit it to destroy the toy. The UFO will blow a wall in the room. Regroup and defeat the RC Shroob to have the Yoshi find the others. Exit to the hub room and head to the top right pathway to enter a room with a spike pit. Instead of crossing it, use the babies to hop on the jump pad as they skyrocket to a higher level. Up here, grab the Ice Flowers and coins. Drop down the middle hole to fall onto a platform in the middle of the spike pit. A Yoshi was stranded there, so hit the switch and you'll save him. He runs back to the others to help out. Walk across the newly made bridge and regroup with the adults. Now all of the Yoshis are together again! They manage to push the boulder down the intestinal path, making it large enough for the gang to fit through! Head through, defeating the Dry Bones as you walk down the intestines. (mmm...) Grab the items along the way and proceed through the warp pipe at the other end. Save your game and collect the items in the next area. Continue through once the coast is clear to witness something terrible. The Yoshis are being turned into weird-ass eggs! Not if we can help it! Have the babies use the jump pad to launch up to a higher level. Fill up on water then switch over to the adults. Have them position themselves under the block with the Yoshis in them and jump. When you hit a block, the Yoshi egg will fly in the air. As soon as that happens, use the babies to shoot out water to hit the egg in midair. It'll crash into a wall, cracking the egg open and freeing the dino inside. Do this with the remaining eggs to free the Yoshi prisoners. Exit the area once the Yoshis thank you and run away. Grab the items, then use the babies to get the goodies in the large holes. Head to the southern pathway to find the Yoshis together in a room. Talk to them and they'll give you items. One of them will give you a Drain Badge. When you're ready, exit and step on the blue switch in the previous room. Head through the doorway and you'll find Toadbert, another one of Peach's bodyguards. He'll give you a crude drawing that won't have any use until later in the game. Yay? Head through to save your game, then proceed to the next room for a boss fight! You'll find the mastermind behind the egg-making process. The giant egg monster will throw some eggs at the cowardly Luigi. One of them breaks, and guess who comes out? Baby Bowser himself! You'll ignore Bowser for now and go after the evil beast! +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Sunnycide HP: 300 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | This battle is against Sunnycide, but also various eggs! Attack the | | eggs first to break them open (each egg has 29 HP). Each one contains a | | Yoshi, who will run away to a large hill. Break open five eggs to free | | five of them, who will push a boulder up on a hill and launch it down | | onto the battlefield, conveniently, right on Sunnycide's noggin. | | | | Of course, Sunnycide won't just be letting you do this. As you attack | | the eggs, he will be throwing them at the bros. Watch for the target to | | appear, then jump with whomever it stopped on. He will also try to suck | | you in his mouth. Use the hammer to smack him as you draw near the egg | | monster. If all the eggs are used up, he'll send down another supply | | from the ceiling and attack you with them. They contain Yoshis as well, | | you know, if you don't have five yet. | | | | Once the Yoshis knock down Sunnycide with the boulder, he will fall on | | his back. This exposes his bandaged weak spot. Beware, for he can still | | pose a threat when lying on his back. Sunnycide pulls a light switch | | down, making the screen black. He'll then send out a Boo to attack and | | steal an item from you. | | | | Watch for what arm he used to pull down the switch. If he used his | | right arm, then the Boo will attack Mario. Left for Luigi of course. | | Sometimes Sunnycide also pulls a long chain. When this happens, the | | ground will start to ripple and form a giant hole. When you see it | | ripple, jump to avoid falling. Again, right arm for Mario and left for | | Luigi. | | | | When he's on his back, Sunnycide will be most vulnerable. Jump to deal | | maximum damage. Fire Flowers also work quite nicely. After a couple | | rounds of attacking like this, Sunnycide will get up. Now you'll have | | to crack open the eggs and round up five Yoshis. Keep repeating this | | process to finally crack Sunnycide open for good. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ After the battle, the group will make their escape out of Yoob. Of course, they take the back end. After regrouping at Yoshi Village, Baby Bowser's appetite gets the better of him as he coughs up the two Cobalt Star Shards. The group grabs them and runs off to Peach's Castle again. ============================================================================== PEACH'S CASTLE [0512] ============================================================================== Back at the castle, report to E. Gadd for now. He can't decipher the drawing now, but urges you to continue finding the shards. Save and head to the courtyard to meet up with the Toadsworths. They are using yet another new technique to please Baby Peach. They'll of couse teach it to you. Switch to the Bros. Ball option and press A to curl up into a ball. Now you can move a lot faster, as well as move up steep hills with ease. Sometimes you can even use the bros ball to power up machinery. With that said, head to the left side of the castle near the left stairwell to find a small piece of machinery. Slip inside as a ball and roll around to power it up. With it fully powered, it will reveal a warp pipe. Step inside to enter the sewers underneath the castle. Save and feel free to venture around the sewers. You won't find enemies other than a Goomba here and there, so relax. There are lots of coins to find, as well as some Mushrooms. If you travel through the pipes enough, you may come across a familar (furious) face! When you're ready, return to the ground floor of the castle. Head up the left stairwell and head out onto the bridge. Enter the middle chamber to find yourself in a giant tower. A cage secures the exit, so there must be another way to get up there. Throw the babies and control the adults for now. Walk to the left and hit the Event Block to start a timer. The gate at the exit will open and you must race up the series of ramps to the top before the timer runs out. It's pretty easy. Once you make it to the top and through the gate, hit the Event Block and exit to the balcony. Regroup using the warp pipe and head into the time hole leading to Gritzy Desert. ============================================================================== GRITZY DESERT [0513] ============================================================================== Hot hot hot! We're in a scorching desert! As you get used to the climate, head north from the time hole and save your game. Step on the blue switch in front of the Koopaseum and you'll get bombarded by Shroobs! the gang runs south behind a pillar and the Shroob army will lose you. Phew! Kylie Koopa will make her appearance and suggest that you find the four statues lying in the desert. They supposedly have some connection to a secret entrance to the coliseum. NOTE: Some items on the top of pillars are inaccessible at the moment Grab the Refreshing Herbs and the two 1-Ups, then spin jump to the platform for some coins. Head due west to the next area. You will find some Shroob Divers and Pokeys in this large area. Take all of them out and then throw the babies in the pipe. Have them collect the items and coins here, then regroup. I recommend going north and defeating the enemies here. All of them. It'll help, believe me. While you're here, you can grab all the items, including the Secret Jeans hidden in the pipe. Head back when the coast is clear and go south this time. Defeat all of the enemies here as well and collect the Green Shells. Throw the babies into the pipe and have them walk over to the switch. As the adults, use the Bros. Ball and roll into the nearby cannon. Hit the switch with the babies to send the adults across the thorny ravine. Have the adults collect the Pocket Chomps and Ice Flowers, then take out the Bob-ombs. With the adults, head to the next area and defeat all of the enemies before getting the items. Keep defeating the enemies in each area with the adults. When you're at the right side of the mpa, step under the Dry Bones statue. Now, back to the babies. Go north to the large area, stand under the Dry Bones statue and activate the Simultaneous Block. Activate them with one duo, then switch over to the other duo and activate that set of blocks before the time runs out. When done successfully, the statues will shoot lasers and meet at a point on the map. Alrighty, have the babies go west to the small area. Use the warp pipe to regroup and save your game. Once together again, return to the large area and go north. Go east again and drop off the babies. Hit the Event Block to start a challenge. You must race throw the little cactus maze and make it to the exit in the designated time. Really easy stuff. Use the Bros. Ball after you hit the block and race to the exit, where you'll hit the Event Block. Now the gate will stay open. Grab all the items that you rolled past before going to the next area. If you haven't cleared out all the enemies in the southern area, then do so. Hell, I recommend defeating every enemy in the desert, because you don't want to deal with hordes of enemies with the babies all by themselves. As the babies, continue to the lower right hand corner of the map and stand under the Dry Bones statue. Bring the adults to the upper left hand corner of the map and have them stand under that statue. Activate the Simultaneous Blocks to connect the lasers and make an Event Block appear near the entrance to the Koopaseum! Return to the Koopaseum and have the babies activate the Event Block positioned on the pillar. Now you can climb up the wall of the stadium. Regroup and head up the walls of the stadium, where you will find a secret entrance at the top. Once in the Koopaseum, enter the warp pipe to pop up next to a save block. Save your game and step on the switch to enter the doorway. Here, you'll witness a horrifying scene. Princess Shroob makes her appearance in the middle of the stadium with thousands of Shroobs around her. She'll call for Princess Peach, who is tied up. She gets lowered from the ceiling, closer and closer to a large pipe. Guess who pops out of that pipe? None other than Petey frickin' Piranha! Peach gets lowered right into Petey's mouth as he enjoys a fresh meal. As the bros are in shock, Kylie gets carried away by Shroobs. Take the right path to come across a vault of some sort, where you'll find Super Drop, coins, a 1-Up Super, and a Hit-POW Badge. Take the left path and hit the Event Block on the ledge to gain acess to the other ledge across from it. Enter the large area without the babies and Bros. Ball/Spin Jump down the large obstacle course. Once at the bottom, regroup with the warp pipe and grab the cooins. Go east to a closed area. Grab the Cannonballers and Refreshing Herbs, then throw the babies on the ledge to the right. Have them enter the dark room, then make it bright using the Shine Block. You know the drill; just like Bowser's Castle. Take some other paths along the way to find coins, Pep Badge, Adult Trousers, and an Ultra Shroom. Once you exit with the babies, hit the switch to open the door below. Regroup and go through the door to find a save block. Step on the platform to be taken up onto the main stage, where you saw that shocking scene. The gang will hold their own against some Shroobs and even the Princess herself. She'll call upon a giant Shroob, who doesn't look happy! +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Shrooboid Brat HP: 900 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Yay for large amounts of HP, am I right? Despite having a whopping 900 | | HP, don't expect a real challenge from this fight. The Shrooboid Brat | | has a bunch of attacks, and most of them are pretty tricky to avoid. | | His easiest attack to avoid is where the giant Shroob will pull a big | | lollipop from his mouth and chuck it at one of the bros. | | | | He lets the crowd decide who gets attacked, so the audience will hold | | up signs (M for Mario and L for Luigi). Whichever bro has the most | | signs held up will be attacked. Simply jump over the candy when chucked | | at you. Beware though, sometimes the crowd will take multiple votes, | | therefore he will throw more than one lollipop! | | | | Watch for the crowd to get sneaky with the votes. Sometimes the color | | of the sign will change. For example, they may hold up a green sign | | with an M on it. Despite the color, Mario will get attacked. Pay | | attention to the letters, not the color. The Shrooboid Brat will also | | receive items from the crowd. They get passed across the crowd, and | | whichever sign touches the item when it gets dropped to the brat | | determines what bro the item will be thrown at. Confusing, I know. | | | | Just wait, because it gets even more confusing. The Shrooboid Brat will | | receive more than one item from the crowd. Furthermore, he will spit | | them out to you in OPPOSITE order! | | | | On top of all of that, if the Shrooboid Brat gets a Mushroom from the | | crowd, he will spit out a Poison Mushroom! Argh! Alright, lets have an | | example. If he gets a Fire Flower, Mushroom, then Poison Mushroom, then | | they will get spit out in the following: Mushroom, Poison Mushroom, | | then Fire Flower. Got all that! With that said, on to avoiding that | | attack. Hammer the Fire Flowers and Poison Mushrooms away, but let the | | Mushrooms hit you to get healed! | | | | Onto the offensive maneuver. Use Ice Flowers off the bat and you will | | most likely lower the Shrooboid Brat's defense. This gives you a pretty | | big advantage, so test out Pocket Chomps to deal a lot of damage. | | Cannonballers will rip this guy apart as well. I'm sure you have tons | | of Bros. Items, so like every other boss battle, use them. The | | Shrooboid Brat's battle tactics may be confusing, but he's a cinch once | | you get the hang of things. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ After the battle, Princess Shroob and some of her lackeys will break the floor under the bros, sending them down into the caves below the Koopaseum. ============================================================================== GRITZY CAVES [0514] ============================================================================== What a dark and damp place to be in. Well, I'm sure Petey Piranha is down here somewhere, so lets go find him! Save your game and put out the fire with the nearby fountain. Break the cracked wall with a swing of your hammer to reveal a hidden shop run by a Monty Mole! The equipment here isn't that good, but pick some stuff up if you're in dire need of changing. Exit the shop and take the eastern path to encounter a Dark Boo. Defeat him as well as the other enemies in the area. Grab all the items and hit the Event Block, then use the Bros. Ball to roll up the hill to the left and across the pegs. Oh damn, not Petey Piranha again! This time you're forced to watch as Kylie Koopa is fed to the giant plant menace! Oh well, she's kinda annoying. Collect all the items here and go south to the next area. Grab all the coins here and take out the Snifaros here. Roll up the hills to find an area with a 4-Bros Block. Go back down the hill and take the western exit. Drill under the grate with the babies and enter. You must power the machine with the adults using the Bros. Ball. Fill up on water with the babies and shoot the item that appears on the belt. Hit three of the same items and Monty Mole will make a bridge. Cross it and hit the Event Block in the next area. With the peg extended, now you have easy access from here to the entrance! Go south and hop in the warp pipe to be taken to another part of the cave. Save your game and exit to a very large area. It's a raceway, and you'll have to race up and down the hill with the Bros. Ball! Throw the babies in the ledge and have them enter the room. Grab the items and have them hit the switch in the next area to open the way for the adults. Quickly turn into a ball and start to roll down the hill as the timer starts. Once you get to the third hill, don't roll down. Instead, get out of Bros. Ball and Spin Jump to the ledge. Here you'll find an Event Block. Hit it to stop the timer and open the pathway under you. You can go back to the other platform you passed and get the coins and Big-DEF Badge. Exit when you're ready. The pipes here contain big coins, so go inside and get them. Exit to the left and immediately use Bros. Ball to go across the pegs. Get the Big-POW Badge and the other items. Drop down and take out the Elite Boom guys. Use the babies and make their way to the left, where you'll find a switch. Hit it with the hammer to lower a platform next to you. Regroup and jump up the platform to the next area. Grab the items here and enter the pipe nearest the entrance for coins. Don't go in the bottom pipe unless you want to deal with Bob-ombs. The next area has a giant thorn pit in the center, and you're left to deal with it. Throw the babies up on the ledge and have them enter the room. Use Bros. Ball to power up the machine, which powers up the moving platforms in the room with the babies. Now you can hop across. Hit all of the blocks with the babies to lower a bridge across the thorn pit. Now you can regroup and head across. Snag the Fire Flowers and coins here, then head to the right for an Ultra Drop and two Super Drops. To the left is a warp pipe; go inside to be transported deeper in the cave. The next room is kinda like a stock-up room. You can find three of each Bros Item: Green Shells, Fire Flowers, Trampolines, and Pocket Chomps. Now stocked up, save and step on the switch on the hill to enter Petey Piranha's chamber. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Petey Piranha HP: 960 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Petey can be one tough cookie if you're not good with dodging attacks. | | Petey likes rocks, and he uses them a lot in this battle as well as | | numerous jump attacks. His first jump attack is very common. He will | | land on the ground and boulders will come right at the bros. | | | | If Petey Piranha is upside-down when he lands, two boulders will fall; | | the first one at Luigi and the second at Mario. Jump with Luigi first, | | then Mario shortly after. If he lands upside-down and AWAY from you, | | then jump first with Mario, then Luigi. | | | | Petey Piranha will almost always use another tactic while jumping. If | | he does a few somersaults while in midair, then the boulders will come | | to the bros simultaneously. Jump at the same time to avoid impact. | | | | Petey Piranha will also burrow in the ground halfway through the fight. | | It's pretty annoying, since you can't jump on his head. If he goes | | under completely, he'll try to pull you in. Jump with both bros | | repeatedly until he stops. He'll also send a piranha plant pendulum | | thing at you. A block appears on the top screen. It will come at | | whomever is directed on the block. Keep hitting it back and forth | | between each bros with your hammer until it dies. | | | | Remember, you got a lot of Bros. Items in the last room; use them! Use | | Cannonballers a lot in this battle, and then switch to Fire Flowers | | when Petey's burrowed. It may be a fairly long battle, but keep | | pummeling him with the Bros. Items to bring the nasty guy down. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ When Petey bites the dust, he won't only cough up Kylie Koopa, but Cobalt Star Shard #3 as well! She says that Peach is not in Petey's belly but in fact somewhere in the caves. Kylie also got her hands on a strange key that she said that she stole from the Shroobs. Break down the north wall with your hammer and continue on. Drill under the gate to the right with the babies and hit the switch to open the door. Regroup and continue through to find the Princess! When you're all together, you'll be transported back to the castle. ============================================================================== PEACH'S CASTLE [0515] ============================================================================== The Princess is back! No, really, she is! Now it's time to relax, well, sorta. Head to the courtyard to have the Toadworths teach the babies a new ability: the Baby Spin. All you need to do is use Spin Jump with the adults and collide with the babies. The tikes will go flying in the air and slowly descend to the ground. The second ability learned is the Baby Cakes. As the Bros. Ball with the adults, run over the babies to flatten them! Now they can squeeze into tight spaces that you couldn't access before. Once the new techniques are learned, a giant gust of wind will blow Baby Peach into a hidden room deep in the castle! Time to put those baby abbilities to the test. Use the Baby Spin to get sent over the wall, then hit the switch to let the adults in. Use Baby Spin once more to get up on the platform, then enter the room and jump up the platforms to the Princess. You'll save her and the Toadsworths thank you. Not long after, a large crash is heard in the castle. Bowser is back, and he's trying to kidnap the princess! Head up the stairwall onto the second floor and enter Peach's chambers to the right. Bowser tries to escape with Peach, but the bridge outside of her chambers breaks, and both Bowser and the princess fall into a time hole. You gotta be kidding! Looks like your adventure isn't over just yet! First things first, return to the courtyard where the Toadsworths taught you the new abilities. Go right and Baby Spin up onto the ledge to find beans and an Item-Fan Badge. Drop down and save your game. You should check out the shop for some new equipment as well. When you're ready, head to the top left portion of the castle and Baby Spin across the gap to the time hole. ============================================================================== THWOMP VOLCANO OUTSIDE [0516] ============================================================================== We're going hiking! Head north to get a chance to save your game. Walk up the hill and Baby Spin into the alcove. Hit the Event Block to open the path for you. You can also find Ultra Mushroom in an alcove next to the Event Block. Just use Baby Cakes to the right of the alcove and make your way to the block. Go through the newly opened path and head across the bridge. Take out the Thwack and go up the ramp. Baby Spin your way to the platform on the right for two Ultra Drops, then fall down to find some coins. Make your way back up again and go up the next ramp. Baby Spin up onto the platform for coins and Trampolines, then regroup using the warp pipe. Jump up the stairs and proceed to the next area. Not much to do here. Just take out the enemies anc collect all the items before going up the ramp. In the next area, flatten the babies and send them into the small opening. Step onto the fan once inside and they'll be taken to the second level. Exit and make your way to the dead end, then hit the Event Block with your hammer. This will send it down to a lower level. Now have the adults go up the ramp and across the bridge. Hit the Event Block to open a path for the babies. Regroup using the warp pipe and enter the big warp pipe to be transported somewhere else. Save and battle the Tanoombas up ahead. Grab the Cannonballers and Baby Spin over the spike pit. With the babies over, Spin Jump with the adults to regroup, then head onward. Flatten the babies and send them through the slotted opening. Have them ride the fan to the top where you'll find an Event Block. Hit it to slide the rocks over, letting the adults continue. Regroup and step on the blue switch to head through the door. Defeat the Red Coconutters and head up the ramp. You can proceed, but first flatten the babies and send them under the pillar. With a combination of Baby Cakes and Baby Spin, you can get some beans and a Counter Badge. When you are ready, head on. Send the flattened babies through the narrow doorway and use the adults' Spin Jump to power the gear. This, in turn, makes the fan stronger. Now the babies can reach the cloud with the Event Block on it. Hit it to extend a bridge leading higher up on the volcano. Collect the coins and 1-Up Supers on the other clouds, then regroup and proceed. The next area has a lot of items to collect. Go up the ramp tot he right and collect the items as you go up the other ramps. The area to the right has a 4- Bros. Block. When you reach the top, drop off of the cliff and press Up on the D-Pad to land on a secret platform. Go right to find Block Trousers, then return and drop down for some other items. Return to the top and continue on. Step in the warp pipe to be taken to the peak of the mountain. Save your game and head up the ramp to find a 1-Up Super in the next area. Squash the babies and send them into the opening, then power the machine with the adults' Spin Jump to reach the Event Block. Hit it to lower the platform near the adults and continue on. Grab the three Super Mushrooms along with the Ice Flowers and Fire Flowers. Proceed to the volcano top. The bros will find Peach's crown, but no sign of the princess. The volcano begins to erupt, so head back down! Go to the right into the next area. Collect the Green Shells and coins, then take out the enemies and head south. Grab the other items here, then head south once more to find Professor E. Gadd's lab. Open the door using Spin Jump on the gear, then save and head inside. After the lengthy talk, fiery thwomps will rain down into the lab! Have the babies use the water pipe (Spin Jump on the handle to get the water going) to put out the large thwomp. After it's extinguished, young E. Gadd will come up with an idea to put out the eruption. After he puts out the fire at the volcano tip, exit the lab. Head to the right and hit the Event Block to create a bridge leading to the entrance. If you wish, you can return to Peach's Castle and stock up. If not, then return to the peak of the volcano. You'll find a mother Thwomp and her husband at the top. She complains about the lack of lava in the volcano (she liked to bathe in it). Knowing that the bros had something to do with the fire getting put out, she is ready to fight you because of it. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Mrs. Thwomp HP: 600 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Mrs. Thwomp is definitely a step back in difficulty from previous | | bosses, but hey, I can deal with that. Mrs. Thwomp can not only stay as | | her big self, but she'll also break into four smaller versions of | | herself. There's always a catch. | | | | First, her attacks. Mrs. Thwomp will roll in front of each bro and hurl | | rocks at them. She'll alternate between each bros, so quickly smash 'em | | apart with your hammer. Sometimes she will stand in front of one bro | | and throw boulders at just him. Again, be quick with your hammer. | | | | Mrs. Thwomp's jump attack is pretty tricky. When she is in the air, | | check for how many times she spins. If she spins three times before | | landing, she will land in the center. Jump with both bros at the same | | time to avoid the shockwave. If she spins six times, then jump with | | Mario, then Luigi when she lands. If Mrs. Thwomp spins nine times, then | | jump with Luigi first, then Mario when she lands. She probably won't | | use this attack much, though. | | | | When you deal a certain amount of damage to her, Mrs. Thwomp will break | | into four smaller pieces. Only one is the real one; the other three | | only have 50 HP and will break apart after an attack. Watch their | | eyebrows to see who they will attack. If they raise their left eyebrow, | | then Luigi will be attacked, and right for Mario. Be ready to quickly | | counterattack with your hammer. Attack the rocks to eliminate out the | | fakes, then focus your attacks on the real enemy. | | | | The only way to defeat Mrs. Thwomp is to deal damage when she is split | | up. That's the only way to deplete her HP. Attacking her when she's big | | only accumulates to how much damage it takes for her to split. So use | | normal attacks when she's in one piece, then pull out the Bros. Items | | when she is split in four pieces. The battle sounds long, but you | | should have no problem beating her. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ After the battle, Mr. Thwomp will avoid his angry wife as he brings the bros down into the heart of the volcano. ============================================================================== THWOMP VOLCANO INSIDE [0517] ============================================================================== Ah, great to be in a fiery hellhole, right? Nah. Save your game once you land and take a right. Baby Spin your way down the chasm while collecting coins! Exit to the right once you land. Ignore the Gold Koopleons here (they'll most likely run away if you battle them) and grab the Pocket Chomps in the corner. Regroup with the warp pipe next to the entrance and collect the Copy Flowers. If you wish to fight a Thwack Totem, then throw the babies into the left hole. The right hole holds some coins. Enter the next area to the right. Send the adults into the cannon as a ball and have the babies enter the opening. Talk to the Thwomp to play a pinball-type game. You must play if you want to continue, so go ahead and give it a try. Navigate the adults as you collect gems and fall down. If you reach the bottom, then have Baby Mario hit the switch with the hammer. You'll start a wheel. Match up three symbols for some prizes. The number of gems you collected determines how many spins of the wheel you get. After participating, exit the gameroom and regroup. Now you can make your way through the exit. Decend down the stairs as you collect the items. Continue south to the next area, where you'll find a Blazing Shroob. Kill him and collect the items on ground level, as well as the ones in the holes. Continue left past the Thwomp and hop in the warp pipe. Hit the Event Block to create a bridge leading to the entrance. Return through the warp pipe and go back to the thwomp. Step on him with all four bros to have him slam down to a lower level. A green block will stop him though, so this is as far as you can go for now. Save your game and go right for a slew of items, including a Lucky Badge. Hit the Event Block to lower the spikes. Continue on to find a dead end with a 4- Bros. Block. Return to the thwomp and take the left path this time. Throw the babies into the hole and step on the platform with the adults. Guide them across the lava with the babies and the Direction Block. Collect all the items on the platforms before dropping them off at the left pathway. Step off of the platform and go left to find a POW-Peak Badge and two Ultra Shrooms. Return to the platform and have the babies guide the adults to the bottom. Regroup with the warp pipe and head right. Baby Spin off the edge of the cliff and collect some coins at the start. Stick to the left wall and you will eventually land on a platform with Golden Pants in the block. Drop down to the bottom and go right. Regroup with the warp pipe and grab the assorted flower items in the right corner. Go past the green block and grab some items in the next area. Return to the green Event Block and hit it to clear up the path for the thwomp, who meets you down here. Hop on to continue your descent. Of course, you get stuck again; this time at a red block. Grab the 1-Up Super and go left and head into the southern warp pipe. Hit the Event Block on the other side to create yet another bridge leading to the entrance. Go back to the thwomp and take a right this time. You'll find a red Event Block, but a thwomp won't let you reach it unless you play a game. Accept his offer. The goal is to Baby Spin off the edge of the cliff and collect as many gems as you can. Ignore the gems and stick to the right wall and soon you'll land on a platform. Go right to enter a secret room where you'll find coins, a 1-Up Super, two Max Mushrooms, an Ultra Drop, a Red Pepper, and a Dynamic Badge. That's a good find, eh? Return to the thwomp and hit the red Event Block to clear the path. Once you hop on the thwomp again, your path will be blocked by one last obstacle. Save your game and go left. Grab the three Ultra Mushrooms and enter the warp pipe. Hit the Event Block to create one last bridge to the entrance. Return to the save point and hit the blue Event Block next to it to clear up the path. Save once more and step on the thwomp to reach the bottom of Thwomp Volcano. And look who you find at the bottom? Not just Bowser, but Baby Bowser as well! The bros have a bad history with these goons, so if you weren't expecting a battle, then what exactly what were you expecting? +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Bowser HP: 1200 | | Baby Bowser HP: 1000 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Well, it's the adults and babies versus the adult and baby. Epic to the | | max! And hard to the max. This battle is most definitely the hardest | | battle so far, and really the only hard battle up to this point. Both | | opponents have a lot of health; the most you've seen so far. The deadly | | duo also have quite a few attacks. Watch out for Bowser's flame attack. | | Quickly jump over it right as he inhales. Beware though, if Bowser | | grins, then the flame will be delayed; wait a second before jumping. | | | | Bowser will also jump in the air and slam down, releasing a large | | shockwave. Jump with both bros. Sometimes Thwacks will also fall from | | the ceiling. The red ones go for Mario and greens after Luigi. You'll | | have to jump over them as well. | | | | Bowser will launch Baby Bowser in the air for another attack. When Baby | | Bowser lands on Bowser, the big guy will spit out a fireball. If Baby | | Bowser spins clockwise before landing, then the fireball is directed at | | Luigi. If he spins counter-clockwise, then the attack is going after | | Mario. Jump with either bro to avoid the deadly move. | | | | Bowser will also retreat into his shell and start spinning. Baby Bowser | | then pulls out his hammer and hits Bowser at one of the bros. He holds | | the hammer upward if aiming at Mario and downward for Luigi. Hit it | | back to Baby Bowser with your hammer and he'll most likely return it to | | you. Keep going back and forth until he misses. Then Bowser will be | | sent off the screen and won't return for a couple of turns. This is a | | great time to attack Baby Bowser without the help of Bowser. | | | | And all on top of that, the pesky Baby Bowser will heal Bowser with | | Mushrooms occasionally. With that said, it's best to take out Baby | | Bowser first. When he uses the hammer attack, try your best to hammer | | Bowser off screen, which leaves Baby Bowser all by himself. He has a | | fireball attack to defend himself with, but it is easy to dodge. Attack | | Baby Bowser with Green Shells and normal attacks. If you're good with | | Green Shells, you can take Baby Bowser out early in the battle. | | | | When Baby Bowser is out of the picture, Bowser is all by himself. He | | only has his normal attacks (the first two described in the boss | | strategy). By now I'm sure you've gotten the hang of them. Attack the | | Koopa with Ice Flowers to lower his defense, which makes him a lot | | vulnerable. Try out Copy Flowers on Bowser, because they can deal a lot | | of damage if used to their full extent. Keep on the assault with your | | best Bros. Items to shut the two Koopas down for good. Phew! | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once you've defeated Bowser and Baby Bowser, the group is ambushed by the Shroob Mothership. Bowser is sent careening into a time hole, whereas Baby Bowser ends up getting stuck with the thwomp on top of the space ship. Peach, who is found by the bros, gets abducted by the mothership. The bros run into the beam as the bros get sucked up into the ship as well. ============================================================================== SHROOB MOTHERSHIP [0518] ============================================================================== When you land in the mothership, the first thing you should do is save. Jump up the platforms to find a Max Mushroom and exit to room. Throw the babies up on the platform to the right and have the adults Spin Jump to their location. Baby Spin up onto the ledge for two Ultra Drops. Exit to the right. You will find yourself on a long track. Collect the items on the way across. Throw the babies up on the ledge and continue across. Drill under the gate to find some coins. Drop down and regroup with the adults. Snag the Copy Flowers and defeat the Guardian Shroobs in your way. Continue across, using Baby Cakes to fit into the slotted area for some items (including a Drain Badge). Proceed to the next area once you have gotten all of the items. Control the babies and bring them to the top floor of the mothership. As the adults, walk over to the Event Block to have it sprout wings and fly away. No, really, it flies away! Follow it through the dark corridor. Whenever it stops, control the babies and have them hit the switch right above where the block is. That will light up the area, allowing the adults to hit it. Keep it up as it flies down the hallway until the wall is lowered. Regroup at the exit and continue on. Hit the Event Block here (it won't fly away, don't worry) to create a pathway to the entrance. While you're here, you might as well go back to the entrance and save. Head through the doorway to the north when you're ready. Baby Spin to the ledge for some coins, then step on the blue switch to continue through the ship. The bros will be ambushed by Princess Shroob and her lackeys, but Kylie Koopa is here to save the day! She beats up the Shroobs as the gang makes their escape. Continue through the door and grab the items, then save your game and head through the next doorway. Kylie will find a giant keyhole in the side of the ship. Maybe the key she found back in Gritzy Caves will work here? It does! She sticks the key in the keyhole, but the key didn't open up anything special. In fact, it opened up a trap door right under the gang as they plummet out of the mothership! ============================================================================== TOAD TOWN [0519] ============================================================================== Save at the save block right behind you and enter the large green house. It's a shop, where you can find some useful equipment. Once you're done with your shopping spree, explore the town. Defeat all of the Shroids and grab the Red Shells outside. Have the babies use Baby Cakes to enter the side of the houses for some items. Explore all of the houses for itemsand coins. The house on the bottom right has a Dire-POW Badge inside. Split up and have the adults go south and stand under the Simultaneous Blocks. Have the babies enter the orange house in the top right corner. Jump up the platforms and go across the bridge to another part of the town. Grab all the items in the houses and defeat the Skellokeys. Drill under the gate and kill the Love Bubbles, then get the items on top of the mushrooms. Continue south and activate the Simultaneous Blocks with the babies and adults to open the gates. With the babies, continue past the newly opened path and defeat all of the enemies. Explore the houses for items, then drill under both gates and continue south to the next area. You'll find another pair of Simultaneous Blocks. Stand under them and control the adults. You can find a Dynamic Badge A in the first house in the new area. Grab it as well as other items here, then continue right into the next area. There's not much to do here. Go left to find another barren house. Collect the items inside, then Spin Jump across the mushrooms to find Para Slacks. Go back to the previous area and head right this time to find some Simultaneous Blocks. Activate both Simultaneous Blocks with each duo to open up the gates. Continue through with the adults and use the warp pipe to regroup. Save your game and hit the Event Block to the left to open up the gate. This leads to a time hole which brings you back to Peach's Castle (the sewers to be exact). If you wish, return and stock up. If not, save again and head in the warp pipe to be transported to Star Hill. ============================================================================== STAR HILL [0520] ============================================================================== What a much nicer place than that dump Toad Town. After enjoying the nice scenery, grab the Copy Flowers, Mix Flowers, and coins. Head north to the next area. You'll encounter a Handfake once you enter. Take him out and continue down the winding path. Defeat the Fly Guy at the next bend and have the babies get flattened and enter the slotted hole. Power the machine with the adults' Spin Jump. Take the fan up to the second floor and exit to find some nice items. Return to the fan and take it up to the top floor. Exit the fan room and collect the items here. Regroup at the warp pipe and continue to the next area. Continue over to the left branch to find a large amount of items. Head up to the right branch for some more items to stock up on. Save your game, then continue down the path for a boss battle. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Commander Shroob HP: 1300 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | This battle is pretty interesting, since the commander of the army is | | quite cowardly. He'll spend most of the time behind the lines and send | | more Shroobs on the battlefield. Your task is to kill the commander, so | | we have to find a way to get him onto the field and take him out. | | | | The Shroobs come out in threes, and they carry out a huge Shroob-omb | | with them. They will sometimes toss the huge bomb at you. They wink | | before they throw it at you. They wink their left eye if aiming for | | Luigi and their right eye for Mario. Hammer the giant bomb as it comes | | towards you to knock it back to them. | | | | First, you must take out the Shroob squad. Defeat the one in the middle | | and the one in the back. They each have 88 HP, so it shoud not be that | | challenging really. | | | | If you defeat the one in the middle and the one in the back, then the | | giant bomb will roll off the field and blow up, sending the commander | | onto the field. If you happen to defeat the Shroob in the front, then | | the bomb will roll on top of the bros and explode. With that said, | | ignore the front-line Shroob at all times. | | | | When the commander is forced into battle, he will send his army at the | | bros. If his arms are behind him, then the commander will send a Shroob | | at Mario. If they are in front of him, then the Shroob is going towards | | Luigi. He will either smack them towards the bros or fling them in the | | air, so be ready with your hammers. Watch for multiple Shroobs to come | | your way as well. Commander Shroob will also fire laser beams at you | | just like a normal Shroob does. | | | | The Commander Shroob is a pansy and won't do much when in battle. Don't | | even bother wasting a lot of your Bros. Items on him. Use normal | | attacks when he's in the battlefield. If you're like me and are good | | with Green Shells, try out the Red Shells to deal an unbelievable | | amount of damage to the commander. He will retreat after several turns | | and send in another Shroob squad, so repeat the strategy above to | | defeat this cowardly commander and his makeshift army. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ When the battle is over, you will come face to face with that Star Sprite. She will tell you abbout the battle between Peach and Princess Shroob. She urges the gang to find the last two shards as she opens the path to Star Temple. Head across the starry road and enter the warp pipe to enter the temple. ============================================================================== STAR TEMPLE [0521] ============================================================================== Save your game once you enter and go north to the giant star gate. A giant face will come up and test your personal strengths. Mario passes with flying colors. Luigi on the other hand, well, gets denied. He's told that he isn't strong enough physically and mentally. The only way he can get in is if he finds the Aurora Block somewhere on the outskirts of the temple. Poor Luigi... =( Take a left and collect all of the items on the platforms. Head north to enter a large-monster filled area. Destroy all of the Wonder Thwacks and Piranha Planets, then grab the items. Spin Jump from platform to platform for the items, then Spin Jump to the ledge and go across. Regroup at the warp pipe and go north. Split up and have the babies jump on the jump pad to the left. Fill up on water and stand on the edge. Have the adults Spin Jump the gear on the machine to send the Aurora Block into the air. Spit with the babies as the block reaches them to hit it to the side. Now drop down and step on the jump pad to the right. Do the same thing again to knock the Aurora Block to the ground. Regroup and hit the Aurora Block to send it back to the star gate. Return to the star gate (I recommend going right this time to collect the rest of the items, incluidng a Shroom Badge A) and have Luigi hit the Aurora Block. The gate still says that Luigi cannot pass. Now Mario will have to answer to the star gate. Choose any answer to have the star gate finally let Luigi pass through. Enter the gate and head into the warp pipe to be transported to the temple entrance. Save your game and proceed south. Grab the items and throw the babies into the pipe for a coin reward. Hit the Star Block to release a beam of light. You must go to the other side and connect the beam, or else the partial beam will go out if you hit any other Star Blocks. With that said, go south and continue past the Star Block to the next area. Hit the block here to connect the beams of light. Return to the previous area and have the babies enter the high ledge. Follow the pathway with the help of the Shine Block and the adults. Make sure to get the Stache Jeans on the far right side of the maze. Once you make it through, hit the Star Block to lower it to ground level. Now hit the Star Block to create a beam of light. Go right to the next area and head north. Hit the Event Block to start up a pattern of lights. Your task is to go into the small room with the babies (throw them up on the ledge) and duplicate the color scheme using the blocks in the room. I can't provide a diagram, for the pattern changes with every game. All I can say with matching the colors is that if you want the block to be red, hit it with Baby Mario and if you want it green, use Baby Luigi. Once you're done, hit the Star Block that appears. Hit the block once more, then return to the entrance. Save your game, and head south from the warp pipe and hit the Star Block to connect the horizontal beam. Head up to the northern area now. Grab the items in the pipes. Hit the Star Block, then go left, then south to the area with the Shine Block in it. Hit the Star Block to connect yet another beam of light. Onto the final light beam! Go right and hit the Star Block here, then return to the northern area. Hit the Star Block to connect the last beam of light. This opens a pathway to the center of the star. Head down the road to the warp pipe and you'll be transported inside of the temple. Save your game and enter the main part of the temple. You will encounter Toadbert (the dude who gave you that crappy drawing in Yoob's Belly) and Kylie Koopa. Step on the blue switch to break the glass on the wall, revealing Cobalt Star Shard #4. Toadbert's looking a little weird, and he tells you that he was holding a Cobalt Star Shard all along and didn't know it. He says that the star will be useless and you still won't be able to defeat the Shroobs even when it is in tact. Toadbert runs away after the strange conversation. Who cares? Chase him and get the shard back despite what he said! In the next room, flatten the babies and send them into the small slotted area to the left. Have them go up the mazed area and grab the Hit-Free Badge in the left corner, then head to the right to find a gate. Drill under it to find a small room with a switch in it. Hit it to make part of a platform appear. Now use the adults to go up the red stairs up to the top. Regroup with the warp pipe and collect the items before moving on. Grab all of the many items in this room, then step on the blue switch to open the door. You'll find Toadbert and Kylie Koopa again here, except they're lying on the floor. Toadbert tells you to rub off the dirt of his drawing. Use your stylus (!!!) to rub off the dirt on the lower right hand corner of the drawing. You'll see a picture of what looks to be a princess. Or maybe a Shroob? Who knows? Before Toadbert can explain what it is, a giant Shroob Monster crashes into the room and turns both Toadbert and Kylie into mushrooms! He confronts the bros and is poised to fight! +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Elder Shrooboid HP: 2950 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | The Elder Shrooboid may look somewhat familiar to you. He's just like | | the Junior Shrooboid from the beginning of the game. Too bad for us; | | this guy's a lot harder. The Elder Shrooboid has some annoying attacks, | | but most are easy to dodge. He will shoot fire at the bros. Watch for | | what hands he uses: right for Mario and left for Luigi. He will charge | | the bro after flinging the fire, so be ready so whack him with your | | trusty hammer. | | | | The Elder Shrooboid will trap the bros in crystals (just like the | | Shroids back in Toad Town) and attempt to smash you with a giant mace. | | Repeatedly jump with both bros to break out of the crystal and jump | | over the mace. The Shrooboid will fall on top of you, so jump right | | after avoiding the mace to counterattack. Watch for the letter on the | | mace to know who will be attacked. Attack the Elder Shrooboid with Red | | Shells and Mix Flowers to take out his remaining HP. | | | | When you deplete 1750 HP, the Elder Shrooboid will increase in size and | | get a lot more powerful (and get another 1200 HP). A big UFO will | | accompany him onto the battlefield. When the timer on the spaceship | | reaches zero, both bros will instantly die. Reset the timer by | | deflecting the Elder Shrooboid's attacks back at it. | | | | He only has one attack now, and that involves him throwing giant spiked | | balls at the bros. Hit the spiked ball with your hammer to send it in | | the air. Mario hits it up and to the right, and Luigi hits is straight | | up. So try and get the bros to hit the UFO, whether it's straight above | | you or up and to the right. Deplete the Elder Shrooboid's HP with more | | Bros. Items to take him down once and for all. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Once the Elder Shrooboid is history, you'll get the fifth and final Cobalt Star Shard. Make your way through the door to find a time hole leading back to Peach's castle. ============================================================================== PEACH'S CASTLE [0522] ============================================================================== Make your way back to Professor E. Gadd. He won't say much other than that your next destination is on the third floor. The final dungeon lies in the next time hole, so stock up while you can. Trade in all of your beans in the Bean Shop down in the sewers for great new badges. Check the shop for new equipment as well. Once you're ready, enter the left stairwall to the second floor. Head north to the next stairwell, then head up the stairs to the balcony. Pick up the Wild Trousers and 1-Up Super, then go to the right. Save your game and enter the time hole, which leads to Peach's Castle in the past. ============================================================================== SHROOB CASTLE [0523] ============================================================================== Alrighty then, exit through the doorway to the north to find a large statue of Princess Shroob. Defeat the Tashrooba and throw the babies up on the ledge. Guide them through the darkened maze with the Shine Block. When you come to a dead end in the maze, hop over to the Event Block and hit it to open up the path. Continue across to the other side. You'll come out on the other side of the statue. Hit the switch to have yet another Event Block come out of the statue. Hit that with the adults to form a bridge, letting you proceed on. Take out the Snoozorb and drill under the gate with the babies. Grab the items and hit the switch to open the gate, letting the gang reunite. Now enter the first chamber of the castle. Step in the warp pipe to be transported into the heart of the castle. Save your game and head around the room, defeating the Soul Bubbles. The thing to do here is to remove the force field around the Event Block. To do so, you must activate the Simultaneous Blocks in the surrounding rooms. Go to the left and take out the Soul Bubbles and Shroob Rexes. Grab all the items here, then take the lower left path. Defeat all of the enemies in this room and continue south. Take out the enemies and collect the items before moving east. You'll find a courtyard of some sort. Take out the enemies and throw the babies into the trees for items (and a Dire-Free Badge). Go in a circle around the hub room (where the save point/Event Block is) and defeat every single enemy here. Split up and send each group to opposite corners of the map, just like Gritzy Desert. Activate the Simultaneous Blocks to create a laser beam. Do the same with the other two to shatter the shield. Return to the Event Block and hit it to open the door to the north. Enter the warp pipe to be taken somewhere else in the castle. Save your game here and head to the next area, where you'll encounter a Shroobsworth. Defeat him along with the other enemies and enter the library to the right. Collect the items and return to the previous area. Go north to the bridge, where you'll be attacked by UFOs. Return to the library and enter the cracked wall to find yourself in a tower. Just like in present time, hit the Event Block to start a timer and use Bros. Ball to roll up the stairs. Hit the Event Block at the top and enter the room. Regroup at the warp pipe and grab the items. Save your game and step on the blue switch to enter a control room. You'll be able to control a UFO and take out the others patrolling the area. Stuffwell will give you an explanation on how to use it: hit the blocks to make the UFO go higher. Once you reach Mario, hit the block above him to shoot a laser beam, and you'll return to the bottom again. Hit the UFOs in this way to clear out the bridge. Once you're done, return to the bridge and enter the warp pipe in the back. Hit the Event Block on the other side to create a bridge leading to the entrance. Go back in the warp pipe and use the other one on the bridge. Save your game on the other side and continue right after grabbing the items. Proceed south and Baby Spin up on the ledge above the doorway. Hit the switch with your hammer to raise up a pillar. Use the adults to Spin Jump to the Event Block and hit it. This creates a platform up on the ledge. Use the babies to hit the next switch, lowering the platform in the previous room. Regroup and enter the previous room. Throw the babies up on the lowered platform and activate the Simultaneous Blocks to open the door to the north. Head on through. You'll enter a control room and the gang sees Peach on a computer screen. After some tweeking with the machinery, Peach tells the group that she's held captive on the top of the giant Princess Shroob statue (NOT the one back at the entrance). The screen turns off, so collect the items and head through the warp pipe to the left. As you go down, a Chain Chomp will ram the pipe, sending it (and the bros) down into the sewers. Way to go loser!! Save your game and head left. Collect the items and head through the warp pipe to create another bridge leading to the entrance. Backtrack and head right this time. Collect the items and defeat the Ghoul Guy. Flatten the babies and send them into the rightmost slot. Ride the fan to the left, then work the machinery with the Spin Jump to send them higher. Remember to grab the Space Trousers on the platform as you make your way to the jump pad. Spring your way to the top, where you can hammer a switch to lower a platform down near the adults. Regroup and enter the next room. Baby Spin down to the bottom of the room and exit. Hit the Event Block to lower a bridge leading to the previous area. Regroup here and throw the babies into the tree stump. Use the Bros. Ball to roll into the cannon and hit the switch with the babies to send them over the spike pit. Regroup using the warp pipe in the left hand corner, then Baby Spin to the central platform. Activate the Simultaneous Blocks to lower the other bridges, then regroup and step on the blue switch. Enter the door to find another warp pipe. Save your game and head to the right. Grab the Lucky Badge A and Refreshing Herbs, then use Baby Drill to send the babies into the pipe. Make your way through, defeating the Lethal Bob-ombs along the way. Collect the coins and Rocket Jeans, then head to the right to find an exit of the pipe. You'll exit to the south of the adults. Hit the Event Block to lower the bridge, reuniting the gang. Go across the bridge and walk across the pipe to the next area. Go right to the spike pit, then head south and hit the Event Block. It'll lower the bridge, but when you try to hit the second Event Block, that meddling Chomp will jump out of the water and eat it! Make your way to the left to the previous area again. You must hit the Chomp hiding in the pipes with the Star Blocks. The top and bottom ones create a laser beam that goes into the center pipe. The bottom and left aim for the pipe all the way to the left, and the top and right aim for the one in between. It's the same for the right side as well. Keep hitting the Chomp until he makes clones. The one that chomps the fastest is the real one, so target that one. Once the Chomp is dead, the Event Block will return to its designated position. Return to that location and hit the block to lower the spikes, then go across to the warp pipe on the other side. Head on through to be taken to another part of the castle. Use Baby Cakes to enter the slotted area in the corner to find another pair of Rocket Jeans, then go up the ramp to regroup. Another force field is encasing a warp pipe this time. Hit the Event Block to make a gate appear, then drill under it with the babies. Jump up the stairs to end up on the rafters. Go around the room and stick to the left in the next area. Continue south and go left at the first opportunity. Keep going up the rafters until you reach a room with a gate and a switch on the wall. Drop down and hit the switch to open the gate. Bring the adults here and have them stand under the Simultaneous Blocks. Drill under the gate and return to the rafters again. Return to where the force field is and go south to the next room. Go to the right side this time. Continue across the rafters and smash the boxes with your hammers. You'll end up reaching a set of stairs leading to the ground. Drop down and stand under the Simultaneous Blocks. Activate them to shoot a laser beam and destroy the force field. Continue up on the rafters as you return to where the force field was. Use the warp pipe to regroup and enter the large warp pipe to be transported somewhere else. Save your game here and continue to the left. Grab the items and head to the closed off section of the library. Use the Baby Spin to grab the items and return to the previous room. Go north to the bridge and grab the items before continuing through. Head through the warp pipe (collect the crapload of Mushrooms here). You'll come out at the base of the giant Princess Shroob statue. Go to the left and hit the switch to open the gate, bringing you back pretty close to the entrance to the castle. Go back to the base and collect the items and save your game. Head up the stairs and use Baby Spin to reach the platform with the load of Bros. Items. Continue up the stairs until you reach the top. Step on the blue switch to enter the statue. We're almost done here! Save your game and if you wish to return to the entrance, head into the warp pipe. If not, then continue on through the statue. Go up the stairs and snag the items before moving on. Grab all the items in the next room as well. Refill at the Heart Block and save your game. Stuffwell warns you that if you want to turn back, this is the time. I recommend that you are in between levels 27 to 30. I was level 30, and the events beyond this was a breeze, so I suppose you don't have to be this high of a level. Hopefully you recived some equipment from the enemies in the castle (Shroob Rexes drop 100-Point Pants and Shroobsworths drop Supreme Slacks). I recommend getting some if you haven't. When you're ready, save once more for the hell of it and step on the switch to enter the final chamber. You'll finally meet up with Princess Peach here, but before you can go have a super reunion, the Shroob Mothership opens fire! Head left and enter the door. Save once more and go up the stairs to the control room. This is the same as the UFO battle from before. This time, you have health as well as the mothership. Both can only sustain four hits. You must use your laser beams to knock the UFOs into the mothership to damage it. It's pretty challenging; this is the only point in the game where I actually got a game over. Keep trying until you take down the mothership. When you're done, head back down the stairs, save, and head to the final chamber again. You'll come face to face with Princess Shroob before you can do anything with Peach, so just take her out, will you? +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Princess Shroob HP: 2500 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | The princess has a lot of HP, but unfortunately you won't be able to | | damage her until you take out her throne. Her throne will set up a | | force field and protect her from any harm. You must attack it several | | times to deactivate the field and get to the princess. | | | | Her throne will turn into a giant walker and plod over to you. It will | | stand over a bro and shoot energy rings. Jump as it comes down to avoid | | it. She will also lower the throne on top of the same bro. You'll have | | to hammer it as it comes down on you. If she laughs as the throne is | | lowering, then the attack will be delayed. Hammer as it drops down on | | you to counterattack. | | | | Her next attack can get very tricky. Two laser cannons will come out of | | the side of the throne. The top cannon aims for Mario and the bottom at | | Luigi. Jump to avoid the laser if it is aimed right at you. If the | | cannon is aiming up, then don't jump; it'll pass right over your head. | | The cannons will both attack at the same time, so you'll have to dodge | | with both bros simultaneously. | | | | I recommend using some type of Bros. Items to deactivate the force | | field around Princess Shroob. Pocket Chomps and Copy Flowers work | | wonders here. Once you smash the force field, you can get a chance to | | damage the princess. When the force field is down, the princess will | | throw a purple star at the bros. It will circle around the battlefield | | until someone counterattacks or is hit. Jump to avoid it as it comes | | towards you. | | | | Princess Shroob will also launch energy balls at you. If she is | | positioned in front of a bro, then she'll launch multiple blasts at the | | bro. You must jump to avoid them. If she stands in-between the bros, | | then she will fire a wave of energy balls at you. Jump with both bros | | to avoid impact. The princess will also fly over one of the bros and | | throw energy balls down. Hammer them back at her to deal some damage. | | | | I suggest you use Red Shells throughout this battle. Mostly any Bros. | | Item will work here, but don't go too crazy on them, for you'll have to | | save them for... later. If you're low on Bros. Items, then use normal | | attacks throughout the battle. Princess Shroob will retreat back into | | her throne after several turns, so you will have to repeat the process | | again. Once you beat the princess, an even greater challenge awaits! | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ -- SPOILER ALERT -- After Princess Shroob's defeat, the gang goes to free Princess Peach. As the Cobalt Star shines in the air, Princess Peach is shocked. We learn that Princess Peach broke apart the Cobalt Star in the first place. Why? Princess Shroob, with her last words, tells us that she's not an only child, and that there's another Princess Shroob! Peach fills us in that the Cobalt Star was a prison for the other princess, and now that it's rebuilt, the Elder Princess Shroob has been freed! (the picture of the Elder Princess was what you discovered in the drawing) Now it's time to take out the twin sister! +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Elder Princess Shroob HP: 3000 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | This princess is a lot harder than the other one, so watch your back | | and stay on your toes. She will first start off by sending a Chain | | Chomp at you. It will head towards a bro (jump over it) and circle | | around and hit the other bro from behind. Time your jump so you can | | counterattack before it blindsides your partner. | | | | The Elder Princess Shroob will also charge at one of the bros. Ready | | your hammer and smack her as she rushes you. She may pause right in the | | middle of running, so delay your hammer strike. | | | | The Shroob princess will also hitch a ride on a UFO and shoot laser | | beams at you. She raises her right arm if targeting Mario and her left | | arm for Luigi. Dodge the attacks by jumping and she will end up flying | | in the background. | | | | If she is lined up with the top of the throne, then the lasers that she | | fires next will pass over your heads. If she is lower, then you'll have | | to jump over the lasers that she fires. When she lands, she'll create a | | big shockwave, so get ready to jump over it. | | | | The Elder Princess Shroob will also bring a giant purple meteor and run | | towards one of the bros. She will try to drop it on your head, so you | | must repeately smash her with your hammer to stop the attack. | | | | Princess Peach will aid you throughout the battle by giving you | | shooting stars. Hit them at the UFOs up in the sky with your hammer. | | The UFOs are pretty much the Elder Princess Shroob's entire offensive | | power, so taking them out could really make the battle much easier. | | | | Sometimes a UFO will fly onto the battlefield with a drink. The | | princess will take it and drink it, which heals her a bit. She only | | does this at the end of the battle, so you know that she's almost dead | | when she start to heal herself. | | | | In all seriousness, I didn't have that much trouble with her at all. If | | you're like me and end up breezing through this, then use normal | | attacks throughout the battle. The only time that I think that you | | should use Bros. Items in this fight is when she starts to heal | | herself. Use items to finish her off before she can heal any more. Too | | bad she's not finished after the fight. Transformation time! Oh crap!! | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Elder Princess Shroob HP: 3000 | | Foot Tentacle 496 | | Arm Tentacle 248 | | Crown 350 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Dayum, that's a lot of targets! The hideous princess will sprout giant | | tentacle feet and long nasty arms. She's also get a lot bigger in the | | battle! The princess gets a lot stronger and gains all new attacks. | | | | The Shroob princess is finished with her UFOs and takes them out | | herself. She will destroy them and let them crash down on you. When | | they catch on fire, then they are going to land on Mario. If they get | | electrocuted, then they're heading towards Luigi. Hammer the spaceships | | back at the Elder Princess Shroob to have them explode right in her | | face. How lovely. | | | | Her arm tentacles can reach out and snatch the bros. When you see them | | wiggle towards you, smash them with your hammer. If they sparkle and | | you hear a little twink sound, then quickly jump to avoid getting | | pierced by an arm. The princess will also shoot out purple gas clouds | | at the bros. Simply jump on top of them to dispose of them. You'll have | | to jump on multiple clouds. | | | | Her leg tentacles will start to spin around. Hop with each bro as a | | tentacle approaches them. They will start to get faster and sometimes | | even switch direction, so stay on your toes. If you get hit by one, | | you'll end up getting hit by all of them, so this is a very dangerous | | and powerful attack. | | | | The Elder Princess Shroob will also make a large ball of energy in the | | air. She will shoot red and green blasts at it. Watch for the colors; | | whatever color was seen the most means that the energy ball will be | | directed at that bro. If you saw more red balls go into it, then hammer | | it with Mario. When you hit the ball, then it will be sent to the other | | bro. Hit it back with him to have it land on the princess. | | | | In her transformed state, the Elder Princess Shroob will be protected | | by her crown. You must attack the crown and deplete its health before | | you can damage the princess. I highly recommend using a Mix Flower to | | not only damage the crown, but everything else. If you can take out the | | arm and leg tentacles as well as the crown, things will go smoothly for | | the next couple turns. | | | | The body parts grow back after several turns, but that will deplete | | most of her offensive maneuver for several turns. After the crown turns | | grey, attack the princess with Trampolines and Copy Flowers to ensure | | the most damage dealt. | | | | The battle is the hardest in the game, and it took me at least 30 | | minutes to beat. Always use Mix Flowers to simultaneously destroy her | | body parts as well as the crown. That leaves you with more time to | | damage the princess. | | | | Since you can only hurt her head, items like Red and Green Shells are | | pretty much useless in this battle. Stick to the Flower items to deal | | the most damage. The crown will regain its HP just like her body parts, | | so attack it once it is functioning again. Keep on the pummeling to | | take the evil princess down for good. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Yay, the Elder Princess Shroob is finally dead! With her death, all of the Shroomified people are turned back to normal, and all of the carnage has been fixed. Return to the present and celebrate! ============================================================================== PEACH'S CASTLE [0524] ============================================================================== The gang celebrates with the demise of the Shroobs (yes, even Luigi is given credit for his actions). Save and heal, then head to the throne room to find Bowser lying on the ground. It seems that he's been there ever since the incident at Thwomp Volcano. He'll get up, only to be possessed by the ghost of the Elder Princess Shroob! Will she ever quit? This isn't really a boss battle, but more of an event. You can't attack Shrowser or heal; you can only dodge his attacks. The life bar at the top is the Elder Princess Shroob's health. You must deplete her health by counterattacking. All of the attacks are easy to dodge. When Shrowser's face glows, then he will shoot out a fireball. Hammer it to send it right to the ghost of the princess. When he shoots out fireballs (when he isn't glowing), jump over them and they'll circle around and smack the princess. When Shrowser shoots fireballs up in the air, ready your hammers and hit them as they descend towards you. Hit them back to the princess to deal more damage to her. Repeat this process to deplete all of the Elder Princess Shroob's health. Once Shrowser is done for, the game is finally over! Relax and enjoy the end of the game. ______________________________________________________________________________ [6] ITEMS [0600] ______________________________________________________________________________ .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. If he raises both hands, then he will fire a shot off. Jump over (or on top of) the bullet. If he points with one hand, he will fire a puff of smoke and fire right after. Delay your jump when this happens. If you attack him and his cannon fall off, a team of Fly Guys will end up replacing it for him in a turn or two. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- KOOPLEON -----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 18 Location: Toadwood Forest * Koopleon is a simple enemy to defeat. He will disappear before he gets ready to ram you. Watch the dust clouds behind him to signify when he will reach you. Quickly jump after seeing the dust cloud to avoid getting hit. If you counterattack, the Koopleon will become visible. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- BOO GUY ------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 17 Location: Toadwood Forest * Boo Guys will split in two when attacking, but only one is real. Boo Guy will point at whichever bro he will be attacking. Jump with the designated bro and ignore the fake Boo Guy as it passes through your partner. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- ELASTO PIRANHA -----------------------------------------------------------' HP: 27 Location: Toadwood Forest * The Elasto Piranha will take up part of the top screen when in battle. If he stretches up to the very tip of the top screen, then he will hit Mario with a fireball. If he stays on the lower half of the top screen, then the attack is headed towards Luigi. Jump right before it hits you to avoid the fire attack. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SPINY SHROOPA ------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 18 Location: Vim Factory * You will have to use the hammers the first time for these enemies. When he hops towards you, hit him with your hammer for a counterattack. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- DR. SHROOB ---------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 29 Location: Vim Factory * Dr. Shroob uses more than one attack. Just like normal Shroobs, he will run to the middle and use his ray gun. If he shines, then jump with Mario. If he spins, then jump with Luigi. Dr. Shroobs will also eat Mushrooms and grow to large sizes. He will charge you, in which you'll have to hammer him as the big guy approaches you. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- LAKITUFO -----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 26 Location: Vim Factory * When Lakitufo drops Spiny Shroopas, hammer them off of the battlefield or else you'll have to fight them too. Lakitufo will spin out of control and try to land on the bros. You will either have to hammer him out of the way or jump over him. The attack pattern is random. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- PIDGIT -------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 24 Location: Yoshi's Island * Pidgit will fly to the top screen and swoop before they dive at a bro. If he swoops left, then jump with Mario. If he swoops right, then jump with Luigi. If Pidgit starts to dive and then laughs, then delay your jump. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- GNARANTULA ---------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 30 Location: Yoshi's Island * These guys are covered in clouds at first, so hammer them to remove the clouds. Some Gnarantulas are covered in spikes and some aren't. When he starts to hop towards you, get ready to hammer him as he hops on you. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- COCONUTTER ---------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 43 Location: Yoshi's Island * When Coconutter twinkles its eye, it will throw a spear at one of the bros. He will also appear behind a bro and fire poison darts at you. Jump with both attacks to avoid impact. When Coconutter raises up its spear, use hammer attacks to attack; jumping will get you nowhere. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- BULLY --------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 46 Location: Yoob's Belly * The Bully will charge at one of the bros randomly, then charge at the other one from behind. Jump when it tries to ram you with the first bro, then jump a second later with the other bro. When you attack a Bully, it will charge up, giving it more speed and attack power. Now the charge attack will be a lot faster. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- DRY BONES ----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 53 Location: Yoob's Belly * Dry Bones only has one attack, and it's easy to dodge. He will throw a bone at one of the bros. If he jumps before throwing it, then the bone will pass over your head. If not, then jump over the bones. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- RC SHROOBER --------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 58 Location: Yoob's Belly * When the RC Shroober sends a toy UFO at a bro, it will begin to lift the bro up. Hammer the UFO back at the RC Shroober. When he sends a robot, it will circle around the bros before detonating. Smack it with your hammer to send it back to the RC Shroober. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SHROOBA DIVER ------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 70 Location: Gritzy Desert * The Shrooba Diver will dive under the sand to attack. If he pops up in front of a bro, simply hammer him. If he starts to circle around them, then jump over him. He will also throw stuff at the bros. Jump over the spiked balls and let the fish pass overhead. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- POKEY --------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 55 Location: Gritzy Desert * Pokeys can be pretty dangerous. Pokey can throw its lower segments at the bros. Watch for the shadows and hammer them back. They can fire darts at the bros, in which they should jump over. Pokeys also ram you, but if they are too tall then you can't dodge the attack. Jump on their heads or hammer the segments away. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- BOB-OMB ------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 35 Location: Gritzy Desert * If a Bob-omb runs over to a ro and starts to hop, then jump after, for it will try to tackle you. If the Bob-omb stands in front of a bro and looks at the other bro, then he'll target the bro that he looked at. A flashing Bob-omb will explode on you instead of tackling, but the method of dodging still stays the same. He will also run in front of the bros multiple times. Hammer him to deal some damage. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- DARK BOO -----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 63 Location: Gritzy Caves * The Dark Boo will use the same attack as a normal Boo. When it peeks, his right eye for Mario and left for Luigi. The only difference is that if a Dark Boo hits you, he'll steal an item. Defeat him quickly to get the stolen item back. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SNIFARO ------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 66 Location: Gritzy Caves * When Snifaro stops in front of a bro and opens the sarcophagus, if the shot comes from the top part, then it'll pass overhead. If not, then jump over. When he uses its rocket sarcophagus, he will loop in the air before coming down. If Snifaro is upside-down, then he'll run into Luigi. An upright one will hit Mario. Jump to avoid the collision. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- ELITE BOOM GUY -----------------------------------------------------------' HP: 50 Location: Gritzy Caves * He uses the same attacks as a Boom Guy does. If Elite Boom Guy raises both arms, then he's going to shoot a bullet. If he points with one arm, then he will let out a puff of smoke before firing. Jump to avoid the shot. Just like Boom Guy, his cannon can be replaced if knoced off. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- THWACK -------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 54 Location: Thwomp Volcano Outside * The Thwack's color determines who he's going after: pink for Mario and green for Luigi. Note that they can change color during the battle. They can call for backup as well as charge at the bros. Jump or hammer them. If the battle goes on for too long, the remaining Thwacks will turn yellow and self destruct. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- TANOOMBA -----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 69 Location: Thwomp Volcano Outside * Tanoombas can change into different things while attacking. He will jump and turn into a Thwomp. If he is straight when he jumps, he'll go after Mario. If he spins while jumping, then dodge with Luigi. When he is a Thwomp, the Tanoomba will crash down on the bro. Hammer him to deal some damage. If he turns into a bubble, he will slowly descend on one of the bros. Tanoomba also has a spin attack in which you'll have to jump over. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- RED COCONUTTER -----------------------------------------------------------' HP: 85 Location: Thwomp Volcano Outside * Red Coconutter shares the same attacks as his Yoshi's Island relative. He can fire multiple poison darts at the bros. He still throws spears as well as hold it up in the air to prevent you from jumping on him. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- GOLD KOOPLEON ------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 8 Location: Thwomp Volcano Inside * The Gold Koopleons have the same attacks as normal Koopleons. When they turn invisible, watch for the puff of dust and jump right after to hit him. He will be visible once you counterattack. Gold Koopleons run away most of the time, so don't worry about these guys. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- THWACK TOTEM -------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 152 Location: Thwomp Volcano Inside * Thwack Totems are multiple Thwacks combined. When the segments spin towards a bro, hammer it back. When he rockets in the air and each segment falls down, avoid the shockwaves. Sometimes two segmets fall down, so you'll have to jump with both bros. Remember, pink goes after Mario and green goes after Luigi. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- BLAZING SHROOB -----------------------------------------------------------' HP: 90 Location: Thwomp Volcano Inside * Blazing Shroob will chuck fireballs at the bros. He raises his right arm for Mario and left for Luigi. If the flame is extinguished, he'll replace this with the ray gun attack we've seen oh so many times. The UFO that flies in the air will fire rockets at the bros. The color of the rocket launcher will signify which bro is getting attacked. To get rid of the UFO, jump on the Blazing Shroob. You'll take a bit of damage from the flame, but you'll knock the UFO away and extinguish the flame on his head. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- GUARDIAN SHROOB ----------------------------------------------------------' HP: 81 Location: Shroob Mothership * Guardian Shroobs are just like normal Shroobs, except that they're faster and stronger. They will attack in pairs, so you'll have to dodge with both bros. With their ray gun attack, if they shine, they will go for Mario. Twirl for Luigi (you know the drill). The shots fired are a lot faster, so be on your toes. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SHROID -------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 110 Location: Toad Town * Shroids are tricky enemies. He will encase the bros in crystals and get ready to fire at them with a laser. Jump repeatedly with both bros to free yourselves, then jump over the laser. He will also play with flags. If he raises up a red flag, then jump with Mario. If he raises a green flag, jump with Luigi. If he raises both up, then jump with both bros. If you mess up at any time in the flag game, he'll come over and smack the person who messed up. The Shroid will also drop spiked balls on you. The letter on the ball shows who will be attacked. If you hit the ball back with your hammer, it will hit the Shroid and malfunction it. Now all of his attacks (except the crystal/laser one) will be reversed. Now if he plays the flag game, jump with the opposite bros (if he raises red, jump with Luigi and vice versa). If he drops another ball on you, an M on it means it's going after Luigi and vice versa. Confusing, I know. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SKELLOKEY ----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 96 Location: Toad Town * The only way to defeat a Skellokey is to damage its head. When he spits fireballs at you, jump over them. When Skellokeys segments spin, watch for which way they spin: they spin left for Mario and right for Luigi. Hammer the segments away and target the head to defeat him. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- LOVE BUBBLE --------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 95 Location: Toad Town * Watch the feet of Love Bubbles when the attack. They raise their left foot when they're going after Mario and right for Luigi. When he floats forwards, get ready to jump over him. When he flies to the top screen, watch the feet and get ready to jump as he crashes down. Love Bubbles also spin at the bros. If he spins clockwise, then he's going after Mario. Counter-clockwise if Luigi is targeted. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- HANDFAKE -----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 117 Location: Star Hill * Handfakes attack with four different signs. If he holds up a Paratroopa sign, watch for the spins. However many times the sign spins means he will pull the sign back before hitting you with it. Jump when he pulls back for the last time. When he tosses a Goomba sign up in the air, watch for which direction it goes. If it's upward, then he will attack Mario from behind. He'll attack Luigi if the sign goes downward. If the Handfake throws a Bob- omb sign, then it will land on and explode on a bro. If it is upward, it'll land on Mario. If it's upside-down, then it will land on Luigi. Hammer it between each bro until it lands on the Handfake. If he uses a Bowser sign, an enemy will drag a fake flame towards a bro. If a Boo brings it along, then Mario will get hit with it. Shy Guys carrying it will attack Luigi. Jump over it to avoid getting hit. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- FLY GUY ------------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 80 Location: Star Hill * Fly Guys attack with the bombs that they carry around. If a Fly guy flies up to the very tip of the top screen, he'll drop the bomb on Mario. If he stops in the middle of the top screen, then he's aiming for Luigi. If you hammer the bomb back and it has a 1 on it, then it will explode on the Fly Guy. If the number is greater than 1, then he simply catches it. He will also roll bombs at you. The Fly Guy will swing a number of times before rolling it. If he swings an even number of times, then he'll roll it at Mario. The bomb gets rolled at Luigi if he swings an odd number of times. Jump to avoid the bomb. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- WONDER THWACK ------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 60 Location: Star Temple * Wonder Thwacks are the same as the normal Thwacks back in Thwomp Volcano. The blue ones go after Luigi and the red ones after Mario. Jump on them when they charge low, and hammer when they are up high. Sometimes they change colors just before attacking, so keep on your toes when fighting Wonder Thwacks. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- PIRANHA PLANET -----------------------------------------------------------' HP: 120 Location: Star Temple * A Piranha Planet is a network of pipes that house many Piranha Plants. When a Piranha Plant sticks out, he'll shoot you with a laser gun. If he pops up at the top of the planet, he will shoot Mario. He'll stick out on the lower part if going after Luigi. Sometimes he will target one after the other, so jump with both bros. When red and green plants pop out, keep note of the order in which they appear. They will shoot out at the designated bro (red for Mario and green for Luigi). When the Piranha Planet floats in the air, wait for a plant to stick out. If he comes out of the top, then the planet will land on Mario. If he comes out of the bottom, then defend with Luigi. Repeately hammer it as it crashes down on you until it retreats. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- TASHROOBA ----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 125 Location: Shroob Castle * Tashroobas are just like the Tanoombas. If he spins as they jump, then dodge with Luigi. If not, then dodge with Mario. Hammer him if he turns into a Thwomp or bubble. Jump over his spin attack as well. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SNOOZORB -----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 110 Location: Shroob Castle * Snoozorbs will stay asleep until you attack them. After waking up, he will shoot a laser at one of the bros randomly. Jump with both to be safe. When he's down to half health, Snoozorbs will fire twice; the first shot goes over your head, but you must jump over the second one. He can also roll towards one of the bros. Hammer him to the other bro, then repeat until he stops. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SOUL BUBBLE --------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 100 Location: Shroob Castle * Soul Bubbles are just like Love Bubbles. Watch his feet: he raises his left foot for Mario and right for Luigi. Jump to avoid his dive and ram attack. If he starts to spin on the ground, check the direction. He spins clockwise if going after Mario and counter-clockwise if headed for Luigi. Soul Bubbles can also revive fallen comrades. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SHROOB REX ---------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 119 Location: Shroob Castle * Shroob Rexes are very powerful enemies. He has a ram attack in which you can't avoid unless you've flattened him. When he flips in the air, jump to avoid the stalagmites that fall. When a Shroob Rex starts to charge, jump with the first bro (if you can), then jump with the other one as he tries to blindside you. Jump on a Shroob Rex to decrease it in size. That enables you to avoid its ramming attacks. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- SHROOBSWORTH -------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 150 Location: Shroob Castle * A Shroobsworth is never seen without an Intern Shroob. When he throws his lackey into the air, the intern will shoot at the bros. If he flies off- screen, Shroobsworth will run and attack. Jump to avoid both attacks. He will also throw purple meteors at you. If it flies on the top screen, then it's headed for Mario. If not, then it is going for Luigi. Hammer it back to the enemies. When vollying back and forth, the Intern Shroob will hit it to Mario and Shroobsworth will hit it to Luigi. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- INTERN SHROOB ------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 110 Location: Shroob Castle * You can only find Intern Shroobs with Shroobsworths, and you can only fight him alone if the Shroobsworth is dead. The Intern Shroobs cannot defend themmselves once alone and he have no attacks once by themselves. The only thing he can do is revive the Shroobsworth. Quickly defeat the Intern Shroob before he has a chance to. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- GHOUL GUY ----------------------------------------------------------------' HP: 112 Location: Shroob Castle * Ghoul Guys are the same as Boo Guys. He will split into two when attacking, but only one is real. He gives away who is being attacked when he points at the bro. A new trait that Ghoul Guys have is that he can possess enemies, which powers up their strength, defense, and speed. Once they possess someone, the Ghould Guy is out of the battle. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------. '- LETHAL BOB-OMB -----------------------------------------------------------' HP: 60 Location: Shroob Castle * Lethal Bob-ombs are very dangerous, since they are always blinking and ready to explode. They will run forwards and move back and forth in front of each bro before exploding on one. Quickly hammer him to stop him from exploding. ============================================================================== BOSSES [0702] ============================================================================== +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Hammer Bros. Items. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Swiggler HP: 250 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Swiggler is a lot tougher than the previous boss battle; he has a lot | | more HP and he's accompanied by two Dr. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Kamek HP: 450 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Kamek has a lot more HP than previous bosses, but the battle will most | | likely be a quick one for you. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Sunnycide HP: 300 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | This battle is against Sunnycide, but also various eggs! | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Shrooboid Brat HP: 900 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Yay for large amounts of HP, am I right? | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Petey Piranha HP: 960 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Petey can be one tough cookie if you're not good with dodging attacks. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Mrs. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Bowser HP: 1200 | | Baby Bowser HP: 1000 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Well, it's the adults and babies versus the adult and baby. Phew! | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Commander Shroob HP: 1300 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | This battle is pretty interesting, since the commander of the army is | | quite cowardly. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Elder Shrooboid HP: 2950 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | The Elder Shrooboid may look somewhat familiar to you. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Princess Shroob HP: 2500 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | The princess has a lot of HP, but unfortunately you won't be able to | | damage her until you take out her throne. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BOSS: Elder Princess Shroob HP: 3000 | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | This princess is a lot harder than the other one, so watch your back | | and stay on your toes. | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ ______________________________________________________________________________ [8] THANKS/CREDITS [0800] ______________________________________________________________________________ Of course, this guide couldn't have been made without some extra help.
