City of Heroes(PC) - Mini FAQ Author: Zack Attack --------------------------------- --------------------------------- Note: This FAQ was made during issue 6 of City of heroes, when a new issue comes out, I will update it, but this has all the archtypes, including the ones added with issue 3. --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- Table of contents: 1. About the game 2. Controls 3. Villain color codes 4. About Archetypes 5. Credits, Copyright, and how to contact me ---------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- 1: City of Heroes is a MMORPG, (Massivly Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) You assume the role of a super hero you create. The biggest part of the game is gaining XP (Experience Points) and progressing through levels, when you gain new levels you can get new moves, to puchase new moves or enhancment slots, you are going to need to head to a trainer, (Ms liberty; Atlas park, Back Ally Brawler; Galaxy City) The trainers can be usually found around a city hall if the city your in has one. To progress in XP quickly you can do either of these, Fight crime on the street, look for villains around your level and fight them. (AKA; Hunting) Or go to one of your contacts, and they will give you a mission, when you go to the missions there can be lots of different objectives, one of them is "Defeat all villains in the mission" Once you do this, not only do you gain XP like you would do hunting, but you get a big bonus amount of XP at the end. When you arrest(kill) some villains, you will recieve inspirations, items that can boost you abilities for a limited amount of time. When you die if you are above level 10, you get XP debt, that you have to work off before you can start earning XP again. You can also sidekick a lower level hero to temporarily raise his level up to yours while he is near you, you can examplar as well, which brings your team mates level down to yours, this gives extra influence (Currency) and works off debt super fast. Now to wrap the introduction up, there is a total of 50 levels in the game, there has been a rumor of them adding 10 more, but seeing as how issue 6 is now out and there is still only 50 levels. Now onto instructions... ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 2: These are the default controls, note you can change them by acessing the menu, just hit "\" during gameplay and go to controls. A: You will see each villain's name has a different color, according to his/her level, here is this list of all the color codes from weakest to strongest: ------------------------------------------------- Grey: Way lower level then you, you can take these bums on, and it will probaly only take a few breaths, or beams of flaming energy. He is at least 3 levels below you. You can take groups of grey named villains without taking a scratch at the most. ------------------------------------------ Green: This villain doesn't stand a chance agaisnt you, probaly around 2 levels lower than you. If you are a controller, or kheldian in your nova form, you should maybe avoid these in big groups. A extremely powerfull nova like move could most likely defeat these guys in one blast. ------------------------------------------------- Blue: These villains are just 1 level below you, be carefull Solo'ing them in large groups, unless you are a tanker or you have a lot of defense. They are just below you, If you rush in with a team around your level, you have a significant chance of defeating them. If they are blue bosses, you may want to watch your back. ---------------------------------------------------- White: These villains are exactly your level, be carefull solo'ing them. You are not advised rushing into them by yourself. If you are a low level controller or so (a squishy) you may not want to face them at all. -------------------------------------------------------- Yellow: These villains are above your level, be carefull solo'ing them if you are low level, no matter what your archtype is, you are highly advised not to rush into a group of these by yourself unless you are a high level hero, will high offense and/or defense. ------------------------------------------------------- Orange: These villains are a couple levels above you, watch out, you are highly not advised to solo them or attack them in a team unless your teammates are higher level than you. These guys can really mess you up if you are lower level, or any level at that. ------------------------------------------------ Red: These guys are way tougher than you, and way higher above your level. Do not mess with them AT ALL, unless you are looking for a beating, or have a team way higher than you. ------------------------------------------------------ Purple: These guys are extremely higher in level than you, you won't really be able to scratch them unless your Sidekicked. These guys can probaly 1 or 2 hit kill you. Stay away from them...unless your looking for some XP debt... ---------------------------------------------------- That's all for the color codes, notice some villains will also be Lts. or bosses, Lt. adds up 1 color code in difficulty, and a Boss adds 2. --------------------------------------------- That's enough on the villains difficulties, now onto the archtypes, if you had trouble understanding some of this, the next section should clear it all up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4: Archtypes -------------------------- Blaster: The blaster has moves that well....blast out of his hands mostly, secondary powers include defensive things. The blaster generally has a high offense and a low defense. --------------------------------------- Defender: The defender is mostly the backbone of eachgroup, empathy, dark miasma, force fields, ext. Every good team has one, the defender heals and protects the group. Secondary moves include blasting. ---------------------------------------------------- Scrapper: The scrapper is the offensive/defensive guy. He has mostly melee moves, he is not ranged at all. He has a medium defense, and very powerfull offense. Secondary includes defense powerups, (Super reflexes, dark sheilds, ext.) ---------------------------------------------- Tank: The tank usually is just rounding up the bad guys, he has huge defense and mild offense. Primary: Defense; Secondary: Defensive Offense. (Fire sheilds that do damage, icesicles as sheilds that peice through your enemy, ext.) ------------------------------------------------ Controller: The controller spends his time summoning pets, manipulating his foes minds to attack eachother, and picking at his foes senses one by one. Primary: Manipulation; secondary: defender primary. (Primary includes, fire manipulation, ice manipulation, ext.) ------------------------------------------------------ Peacebringer and Warshade: These two aliens have come to earth to find a host, they only have one powerset, they can transform from blast to tank to scrapper. They are very powerfull and have travel powers at level 1. (inherit abilities) Primary: blasts/manipulation; secondary: sheilds. ------------------------------------------- That's all the basics on the different archtypes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.
