I have contemplated doing a guide for this game for a while now. I've finally got around to it as you can see. I am doing this FAQ as I enjoy the game and also because I think that I can produce the best guide for this game. This will be a step by step guide. I will take you through the main game, and other add-ons will be included at the end. I'm sick of apoligising for the state of my keyboard (you'd think that I'd get a new one). The dodgy keys (this time around) are c, r and z. Feel free to send me your queries, add-ons, things I have missed out, secrets and such things to EntirelyConfused@aol.com. I may have missed out something- which is quite likely. Please check that questions and such which you send me are not included anywhere in the guide. Also when you contact me, make sure that you list the game which you are talking about and that you give a good description of what you would like me to update/tell you about. But during the summer holidays, a most peculiar visitor appears in Harrys bedroom with a dire warning- disaster will strike if Harry returns to Hogwarts! As the new term starts, this grave prediction seems to be coming true. Strange and terrible events occur- and Harry always seems to be nearby. Panic reigns, but nobody knows who -or what- is to blame. With the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, it's up to Harry to solve the mystery and clear his name, before another victim is claimed and Hogwarts is shut down for good! ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~5~ + + + + + GAME BASICS + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- Controls Left Analog Stick............................Move Harry Right Analog Stick.................Camera (look around) X Button.........................................Action Square Button.......................Cast Equipped Spell Triangle............................Cast Equipped Spell O Button............................Cast Equipped Spell R1 Button........................Hold to target objects R1 Button............................Centre camera view R2 Button...............Take a closer look/Sneak a peek L2 Button...............Take a closer look/Sneak a peek Select Button.........................Enter Rememberall Start Button.................................Pause game Rememberall ------------- New Tasks ------------- Every time a new task is added to the Tasks list, the Rememberall flashes in the bottom left of the screen. Mrs Weasley will have a short rant at your friends and the level will begin. You will start out in the front yard, and after a short conversation you can get going. Target (R1) the glass jar on the barrel to your right. Smash it using the Flipendo spell. It will contain a Berty Botts Every Flavour Bean and with that a game hint will come up telling you about them and their uses throughout the game. Next, target the magical measurer, which is the multi-coloured machine in the corner. Flipendo it and Fred and George will tell you that you need some second year magic to make it hit the bell. Don't worry about that for now, you will aquire it on the next day. The three Weasley brothers will now go off into the barn and you will recieve another game hint, this time on the use of the Rememberall. Once you have finished reading the hint , follow them into the barn (as the task on the Rememberall suggests). Inside the barn, Fred and George have located some gnomes in the rafters. To defeat them, target them (hold R1) and fire Flipendo spells at them constantly. Sometimes they will be hit, otherwise the you will hit the flour bags, which when burst will yield Berty Botts Every Flavour Beans. When you have hit both the gnomes, Fred, George and Ron will leave by a side door. Cast a Flipendo spell at the tool box on the table on the left to earn some Berty Botts Every Flavour Beans, then follow the Weasleys outside. When you get outside, you will have a chance for 'a bit of dueling pratice'. This means that you will be trying to destroy the Weasleys old, savage, mind-of-its-own washing machine. Should be too much trouble should it? Press and hold R1 to target the washing machine. Keep it targeted at all times. When it fires soap suds at you, dodge them by side stepping them or be straifing (X and direction). As soon as it's door opens, quickly fire a Flipendo at it. Don't bother trying to harm it when the door is closed- it won't work. Also, don't get too close to it, otherwise it will charge at you- if this happens then just side step it. After 4 hits the washing machine will give up the fight and die, (yes I said die). When you have defeated it, go over to Fred, George and Ron and you will be given a Chocolate Frog that will completely heal your stamina bar. The task to defeat the washing machine will now be complete. You will have a new task to 'De-gnome the garden'. Before you go, climb up onto the shed-like thing to the left of the clapped out washing machine and from that climb through the barn window just above you. You will now be on the second floor of the barn and here you will find your first Famous Witches and Wizards Card- Elfrida Clagg. There are 101 of these to collect as you progress through the game and every time you collect 10 the size of you stamina bar will be increased. Anyway, get back down into the barnyard and go through the gate at the side of the washing machine. This will take you into the Weasleys garden and is where you will do the de-gnoming. Meet the Weasleys there and Fred will demonstrate how the de-gnoming should be performed. Now follow his guidelines- Target a gnome and stun it with Flipendo. Pick it up using X, then spin it around by holding down X. Release X to throw the gnome. Here there are 3 Famous Witches and Wizards Cards up for grabs. To get the first one, you need to beat Freds thowing record of 125. To do this, if you do 7 full spins with a gnome, you should beat the record. For this you will be rewarded with the Famous Witches and Wizards Card Derwent Shrimpling. To get the next two, you need to hit the scarecrow and the haystacks with targets on. If you do another 7 spins and aim the gnome at them you should hit them. For hitting the scarecrow, you will earn the No.1 card Merlin. If you manage to hit the haystack with a gnome, you with earn Gregory the Smarmy. Once you have de-gnomed the garden an option to end the day will appear in the Rememberall. If you think you have completed all the level satisfactorily, then end the day and progress to Day 2. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~6B~ + + + + + BORGIN AND BURKES- DAY TWO + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- After a quick scene, you will set out using Floo powder for Diagon Alley. It will come as a suprise to find yourself in a strange shop. This is because you have been taken to Knockturn Alley instead. You are in Borgin & Burkes shop. Your first task is to find a way out. The doorway on you left is locked. Search the nearby cupboard if you wish. Then head dircetly forward towards the curved black cupboard. Enter this cupboard (press X to do so). A quick scene will ensue featuring your enemy Draco Malfoy and his father Lucius. Lucius Malfoy will be selling items to the shopkeeper, Borgin. He will also hand Borgin the LUMOS SPELLBOOK. They will leave the shop and Borgin will put down the spellbook on a stand and set a mummy's hand to protect it. At the end of the scene, creep past the mummy's hand. To creep, tilt the left analog stick forward slightly. If you don't creep or move too quickly, the hand will use a purple spell to injure you. When you reach the spellbook, push X and you will learn the LUMOS SPELL! The spell has three main features- *Lights up dark areas *Reveals secret passages in walls *Causes damage to gytrashes (you meet these later). Now creep back past the mummy's hand and go back inside the curved black cupboard. Inside, follow the passage around until you come to a dead end. Cast the Lumos spell to reveal a secret passage on the back wall. Push X and go though it. You will now be in a back room of the shop. You will immediately notice the presence of imps. When the first imp pops up on the platform ahead of you, target it and then use Flipendo. But be careful, as it will be rolling large blue vases at you and if they hit, they will cause damage. To avoid them simple striafe to the left or the right. Hit the imp about 7 times to defeat it. Once you have done so, climb over the barrier and meet the rest of the family... The first thing you will notice are more imps...and some cages. Get the hint? Treat them in the same way as the gnomes, but instead of spinning them, just throw them into the cages. Be careful though, as they will throw balls of green slime at you that will cause you damage. When both imps are safely locked away, you will be rewarded with the Famous Witches and Wizard Card of Daisy Dotterage. Also in this room is a glass jar on the shelf next to one of the imp cages. Smash it and it will yield a Chocolate Frog. When you have done this, use the central most imp cage to climb up onto the next floor. Go to your right to start with and keep going until you reach a treasure chest. Inside will be an owl treat. Now go back to the left and don't stop until you come to Hedwig's Stand. Feed her the owl treat and she will lower a ladder for you. Acend the ladder and STAND STILL! Use the Lumos Spell and it will reveal weak points in the floor. Choose a path around them a advance across the room. Should you fall through the floor, don't worry, just climb back up. When you have reached the other side of the room, don't go though the gap in the wall yet. Instead go to the left (stay close to the wall to avoid falling through the floor) and you will see a treasure chest. Inside is the Famous Witches and Wizard Card of Dymphna Furmage. Now crawl through the gap, and you will find yourself in a small room with 2 doors. Take the right hand one as the left one is locked. On the other side of this door go down the stairs and stop at the pile of boxes. Flatten yourself against the wall and shuffle past the boxes though the small gap. Go down the steps on the other side and you will come to a locked door and a box. Grab hold of the box and pull/push it out of the way. This will reveal a switch. Push the switch and head back up past the pile of boxes. Go inside the room which you just unlocked. Inside is a treasure chest and a switch. Search the chest to find the Famous Witches and Wizard Card of Gulliver Pokeby. Then push the switch, which will unlock the exit. Head down there (next to the first switch) and leaveBorgin & Burkes. You will now find yourself in Knockturn Alley and the task 'Find a way out of Borgin & Burkes will be completed. At the moment you have no more tasks. Head up the stairs to your right and exit Knockturn Alley. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~6C~ + + + + + DIAGON ALLEY + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- Mrs Weasley and Ginny will meet you in Diagon Alley. Ginny will say that she has lost her school stuff. Mrs Weasley will give you a sickle (thats money, not a sythe to all you fools who don't read the books) which apparently dropped in the fireplace. Two new tasks will now be set. The first reads 'Buy standard book of spells (grade 2) from Flourish & Blotts. The second says 'Buy potion vial from Mr. Mullpeppers Apothecary.' Now go to your right and walk right the way down Diagon Alley until you see Ginny and Mrs Weasley on your right. They are stood outside Flourish & Blotts. Go inside the shop. As you enter, just to your right is a man at the serving desk. Speak to him and by the STANDARD BOOK OF SPELL GRADE 2 for 1 sickle. When you have done this, your Flipendo spell will now be more powerful. Before you leave, here's a tip. Go over to each bookcase in turn and press X to search them. You will find Berty Botts Every Flavour Beans in some, but not in all. These are very useful when you reach Hogwarts so try and collect all 50 that your bean bag can hold. When you have filled your bean bag, leave the shop. On exit you will pick up 3 more tasks by offering to find Ginny's things for her. They say 'Find Ginny's scales in Magical Menagerie.'. 'Find Ginny's Spellotape in the Leaky Cauldron.'. 'Find Ginny's Quill in Gambol & Japes. Not very demanding is she? Go to your left and you can now smash the barrels to get to the sickle which you no doubt saw earlier. When you have done this go right the way back up Diagon Alley to where Gringotts bank is (big white marble building). Go to the right of Gringotts and you will see a group of mini-barrels. They containthe cash you need to purchase your potion vial. Smash them all and collect up the sickles and now you should be worth around 11 sickles. Now turn back around and as soon as you are back on the main alley, look to your left for a shop with many cauldrons outside. This is Mr. Mulpeppers Apothecary, so enter here. Inside, go straight forward and speak to Mr. Mulpepper. Buy the POTION VIAL for 8 sickles and then fill it up with Wiggenweld's Stamina Potion from the cauldron. The task to buy the vial is now complete. Exit the shop, and outside go directly across the alley and enter the shop with many cages outside. This is Magical Menagerie. When you are inside, break the mini-barrels that are blocking your path and the shopkeeper will shout that the shop is closed. Are you gonna let that stop you?...Didn't think so. Go through the black gate ahead and the owner will immediately catch you and tell you to get out. But then he makes the mistake of turning his back on you. Quickly run behind the shelves at the bottom of the screen and wait for an oppotune moment to run past him. Wait until he is not near the previously shown switch and/or his back is turned, then press the switch. Then, run to the door which the switch has just unlocked and go inside. In the room you will find GINNY'S SCALES (task done) and a treasure chest. Inside the treasure chest is a Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Tilly Toke. Now exit the room. The shop keeper is onto you by now and a short scene will show him searching for you. Get up close to the nearest shelves (don't get your back to them) and fire a Flipendo spell in the direction of the switch. The owner will run to investigate and use this chance to run along the bottom of the screen and exit by the black gate. Now leave the shop. Head right and go down the alley and you will come to a shop that is lower than the others, that has steps leading down to it. This shop is Gambol & Japes, so enter it. Inside you will find Fred and George Weasley. Now go down the stairs to their left. At the bottom ignore the shopkeeper for now and go through the doorway to the left. The shopkeeper will enter the room with you and tell you about the magical measurer in the corner. Cast a fully charged Flipendo spell at it to make it hit the top and also a sheet of wood to the left will reveal a hole. Go through that hole and you will be in a new room. In this room you will find many barrels containing silver sickles. When you have collected them all you should have about 8. Don't forget to pick up GINNY'S QUILL before you go back into the main body of the shop. When you are back in the front of the shop, speak to the shopkeeper and buy the stink pellets from him for 4 sickles for a pack of ten. Unfortunately, your bag can only hold 5. Oh well, just buy them anyway. Before exiting the shop, go to where Fred and George are stood. There will be some bookcases to the right of the exit. Use the Lumos spell to reveal a secret passage behind one of them. Go inside and get a Famous Witches and Wizards Card (Bridget Wenlock) from a treasure chest. Now exit the shop and go all the way to the left until you pass through the arch and come to The Leaky Cauldron. On your left will be 2 barrels and occasionally, they will bear sickles. When you have done that, enter the Leaky Cauldron. As soon as you enter look to your right and you will see some barrels. Smash them so you can get past, then head straight for the sickle ahead of you. But before you get there, you will fall through a trap door! Don't worry though, this is supposed to happen. At the bottom of the trap door, go over and push the switch in front of you. This will close the trap door (you can now get the sickle) and opens the locked door on the right. Go through the door and follow the passage until you come face to face with 3 imps. There are also 3 cages to contain them. Daze them with Flipendo and throw them into each of the cages. Once you have done all three, a Famous Witches and Wizards Card will appear near some rolling barrels. Collect it and you will see that it is Rowena Ravenclaw. Now before you go past the rolling barrels, go towards the imp-cage that is down a small passage. Before you have gone down it, look towards the right and you will see 2 barrels turned on their side. Crawl through the left-hand one and search the treasure chest. It will reveal the Mirabella Plunkett Famous Witches and Wizards Card. This should now be your tenth one and your stamina bar should increase in size. Now go the way where the barrels are rolling. There are 2 lines of them which are rolling, so run between the gaps alternately until you can move away and round the corner from them. You will see a door in the back wall so use it. Immediately your way back will be blocked by a large fallen pipe. Now, don't just drop down onto the floor, instead get your back to the wall and shuffle across the thin plank of wood. Once you are on the other side, push the large box down onto the floor. Follow the box down and push it against the smaller (in height) wall opposite you. Use the box to climb up onto the platform, then go up the stairs to the left. You will find yourself in a darkened room. Use the Lumos spell to reveal a secret passage in the wall. Pass through the passage and you will find GINNY'S SPELLOTAPE and the task to find it will be complete. Now, head out of The Leaky Cauldron and head onto Diagon Alley. Speak to Ginny and Mrs Weasley outside Flourish & Blotts and you will be given a Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Alberta Toothill. Mrs Weasley will ask you to go into Flourish & Blotts with them to see Gilderoy Lockhart, so go in now. Inside Lockhart will make a big fuss over you and the Malfoys go on about how they are better than God and whatever... Ron will interupt and say that you've missed the train! You plan to take the Flying Ford Anglia to get to school. Ron says he'll meet you outside The Leaky Cauldron. Meet him there when you're ready to go and this will be the end of your visit to Diagon Alley. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~6D~ + + + + + HOGWARTS: WHOMPING WILLOW + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- You landing at school is not a comfortable one, as you crash straight into the Whomping Willow! The only task at the beginning is to 'Find the exit tunnel at ground level that is blocked by creepers'. At the start you are at the very top of the Whomping Willow. Head down the path on the side of the tree until you come to a gap. Now stop a safe distance from the edge as a root (or creeper) will appear and attack the edges of the gap. When it has finished it's little attack, jump over the gap and continue down the path. You will come to a similar gap, so just do the same as the previous one. You will now be at the base of the Whomping Willow. Head to your left and you will be confonted by a 'creeper' (cue the dramatic music). To defeat it, target it with R1 and use a fully-charged Flipendo spell on it. When you have defeated it, look to the left and you will see a group of bushes which could contain items. Flipendo them and see, but be careful of the poisonous spores from the puffapods (green egg-like things). Near these (to the left) is a treasure chest containing a Chocolate Frog if you need health. Just past the massive creeper on the right(it won't attack now) and also on the right is a path which you need to take. Go up it and it will begin to rise. You will come to a the massive creeper. Stop before it, as it will attack the ledge which you need to slide across. When it withdraws from the ledge, quickly put you back to the wall and shuffle across the small gap. Further along the path you will get a game hint about the correct handling of puffapods. Take a mental note of the information and deal with the two ahead of you accordingly (pick up when it isn't spouting spores, then throw away from you). Go past them and you can't fail to notice the creeper right next to you. Wait until it withdraws from the ledge and quickly shuffle past it along the thin ledge. Once across beware of the creeper just to your left. Kill it with Flipendo, take any items from the bush ahead of you, then deal with the next creeper in the same way. Once you have dealt with this one, jump over the gap in the path then follow the path until you come to a puffapod. Over over to it when it is not giving of spores and dispose of it without harming yourself. Carry on along the route, which will lead you to the ground and a new place. Have a quick scout about and you should find 4 item-giving bushes and a treasure chest containing a Chocolate Frog. When you have done and go to the right (near the 2 bushes close together) and in the wall you should see a gap covered by creepers. Ring a bell? Target and Flipendo them and they will move. Crawl through the gap. You will now have completed the first task. On the otherside of the tunnel, you will be given another task saying 'Find the exit tunnel marked on the map'. Also a game hint will appear telling you about teh uses of Flipendo on certain items. When you have read it, head forwards and your way back will be blocked by a fallen log. Also you will now have to defeat some more imps. Damn them! *shakes fist*. You know what this means. You need to defeat them. Many will be on the higher ledges, but some will be on the ground. Flipendo the ones on the floor first, then move onto the ones on the higher ledges. Don't forget, whilst battling them to avoid their green slime. Also, don't forget to keep away from the poisonous puffapods that are on the ground. Once you have used Flipendo on them around 2 times, one will be stood on a log with a puffapod in its hands. Flipendo it and it will drop the puffapod on the log which will be demolished. Go through that gap which has been cleared and a log will fall behind you again. Oh well, head forward and you will find a treasure chest. Inside there is a Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Grogan Stump. Now go back to the fallen log and climb on top of it. Climb up the ledge on the right. Follow the ledge around and you will come to a another log serving as a bridge. Head across it and you will find a treasure chest containing a Chocolate Frog. Now head back to where the fallen log was, and climb up the opposite ledge. Then go over to Hedwig's stand which is in front of you. Call her and she will bring you a letter warning you of the presence of Gytrashes in the area. It also says that the best way to defeat them is to use the Lumos spell on them. Once you have finished reading the letter, look for two puffapods to the right. Remove them and shuffle across the ledge. The ledge will widen out and next to a tree is a treasure chest, inside will be a Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Glanmore Peaks. Now go back to Hedwig's stand and just to the left, go under the arching tree branch. You will be in a smokey clearing. Oh look! Here is a Gytrash that you've been hearing about. You probably guessed it anyway but it will appear as soon as you step into the clearing. To defeat it, cast the Lumos spell and keep the Gytrash in the spells light. This will cause it damage on its health bar. Beware though, when your Lumos spell stops, you are vunerable to attack from it. If any part of its body touches you, then you will take damage. To avoid this, when your spell runs out, quickly run away from it and then cast the spell again. Repeat this a few times and when it gets to around half health, another Gytrash will appear. Repeat the above process with this one too and after a few hits you, will have defeated them both. Now use your Wiggenweld Stamina Potion now if you need health. Then head over to the far side of the clearing and you will see another tunnel in the wall that is blocked by creepers. Flipendo the creepers and crawl through the hole. The task to get to this hole is now complete. On the otheside of the hole it is replaced by another task- "Escape through the tunnel which lies behind the Wiggenweld stump". Now you will be in a new area and you will be immediately ambushed by imps. I cannot find a way to kill them, so just stun them if they are annoying you. Climb p onto the ledge with the puffapods on and you will come to the Wiggenweld Stamina Potion stump. Refill your life and vial if you need, then turn back to look the opposite way. Just to the right and a little way ahead is a small ledge. It is about 3 times your width. When you are on the ledge, look straight at two puffapods in the distance and jump towards them and you should land on another ledge. On it is a treasure chest containing the Famous Witchesand Wizards Card of Hesper Starkey. Now go back to the Wiggenweld stump and just behind it is yet another hole covered by creepers. Flipendo them and head through the hole to reach... ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~6E~ + + + + + BOSS - THE WHOMPING WILLOW + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- The first really, proper, adequate boss of the game- The Whomping Willow. Oh, and by that way, it has Ron...WHAT?...Yes it has Ron, and you obviously have to rescue him, surprise, surprise. A task to rescue him will now be set. All you have to do to save Ron is defeat the Willow. The first thing you should do is go and get your back against the bar-like roots somewhere behind you. If you get in the left corner, at no point will the Whomping Willow be able to hit you. Anyway, the Whomping Willow will begin proceedings by smashing the gound with its(hand?). If you stay in position, you will easily avoid it and the shockwaves that it creates. When it has done that, it will reveal a green spot on its hand. Target and Flipendo the spot and this will send the Whomping Willow mad and it will start to throw Ron around. When it does this, quickly target and Flipendo the orange spot behind Ron. This will take a quarter of the Whomping Willow's health away. After you have hit it once, it will beat the ground with both hands. Stay in position and you will be safe from it. It will then proceed to punch the ground close to you, again stay put and you will be safe. After about 3 of these, it will again reveal the green spot on its hand. Target and Flipendo it, then do the same with the orange spot behind Ron. This will again, cause the Whomping Willow to go into another frenzied attack. The the Willows left hand (to your left) will pick up the Flying Fod Anglia and start smashiing it about to hit you. This will be followed by another 3 punches, before it shows you its green spot. Flipendo the green the orange spots. 3 quarters of the Willows health will now be gone. Cue more monster mayhem and floor beating, 2 more hits with the car (closer to you this time), 2 more punches before it shows you its green spot. By that way to avoid all the above, stay in the usual position. One more hit on the orange spot and you will have defeated the Whomping Willow. It will release Ron and your task will be complete. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~6F~ + + + + + HOGWARTS: 1ST NIGHT + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- Ron will tell you that you have got to reach school before Snape catches you. Follow him through the tunnel, into the Hogwarrts Grounds. When you get into the grounds, after some fun moaning about Snape, he will catch you and tell you to return to school. A new task named "Go to the Gryffindor Common Room on the seventh floor" will now appear. Follow Ron up towards school and go through the large double doors when you do. Inside you will find yourself in the entrance hall. Take the stairs directly ahead of you and at the top, take a right. Go through the door here and you will bump into Nearly-Headless Nick, the Gryffindor house ghost. He tells you to go up to the common room (like you didn't already know). Use the staircase on the left and head right the way up to the seventh floor. Go though the door to the seventh floor. Go to the right (follow Ron) and you will come to the Gryffindor Common Room. You won't be able to get in yet, but Hermione will come and tell you the password. Give it to the portrait of the Fat Lady and enter the common room. As soon as you are inside, Ron will will tell you that Fred and George have set up a shop and that you should go and see them. Don't you think you've done enough today? Anyway a new task will appear saying "Visit Fred and Georges shop". To do this go into the Reading Room to the left. When you are inside quickly get your back against the nearest panel. This is a precaution to stop Percy catching you. If he does see you, he will se the Locomotor Mortis spell to immobilise you and he will throw you from the Reading Room. I don't understand why though, as your not doing anything wrong. So, anyway cast a spell against the wall on the right and Percy will go and investigate. Now quickly go inside the panels and run to the back wall. The portrait which you need to say the passwod to is the red one of Oraclitus Spleer. Say the password to it and you will be admitted into the shop. Crawl through the hole and you will be in the shop. Inside are Fred and George. They will give you an introduction to their shop. They will tell you that the currency in use was Berty Botts Every Flavour Beans. When they have finished talking to you, a new task called "Talk to Ron" Before you go, take the time to browse and buy the items. You will no doubt notice the ALOHOMORA SPELLBOOK and the Wiggenwelds Stamina Potion Vial. You will also notice that you cannot afford them. You will have to wait until you have aquired the bigger bean bag (see Tips and Secrets section). For now, the bigger stink pellet bag and some more stink pellets may be your best buys. Before you leave (again), go through the doorway to the right of the Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Archibald Alderton (you have to pay for this one). Anyway, you will find yourself in a toilet area. To the right is a Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Queen Maeve. You don't need to to pay for this one. Now exit the shop and go back to the common room (it doesn't matter if Percycatches you). Once you are back in the common room, you can finally end the day. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~6G~ + + + + + HOGWARTS: 1ST DAY + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- You will wake up in the boys dormitory in the Gryffindor Tower. To the right of the entrance/exit, next to a bed is a treasure chest. Inside is a Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Leopoldina Smethwyck. Now head down the staircase to the Gryffindor common room. At the bottom, speak to Ron and he will tell you that the first lesson will be Flying. A new task will be set- "Flying lesson with Madame Hooch on the flying pitch". Leave the common room and go onto the seventh floor and head down to the entrance hall. When you are there, you will meet Nick again, and after he has complained some more leave the castle via the main doors. When you are outside, take the path to your right. Go through the tunnel and go into the courtyard. Stay on the path and take your second right (the first being a door). This will lead you to your flying lesson. Madame Hooch will conduct the lesson and she don't sound too happy about it. She asks you to run through the basics for yours and the classes benifit. This is where you can configure your brooms controls. When she asks you to fly up, press up on the analog stick to set it to that and press down if you would prefer that. Then she asks you to go down, so press down on analog stick or up if you would prefer. If you want to change your brooms configuration, then you can do so in the options menu. Madame Hooch will now ask you to fly through a number of rings. Use X to accelerate and the analog stick to manuveur your broom. You need to fly through all 14 in the alotted time, but theres plenty of it so use this as an oppotunity to get a feel for your broom. When you have done this, Madame Hooch will tell you that you are ready to take this years flying exam. Follow these guidelines and you should pass the exam, but the quicker the better. The course will start simple with the green rings. You will need to fly through all 27 in a third of you allowed time. The course now becomes more difficult and you will need to fly through all the purple rings with half of your time gone. You should have gone through 43 all together. You will now progress onto the blue rings and once you have completed these, you should have flown through 61 in all. There should be around a quarter of your time remaining. The red rings are next and you will need to get through as many as possible in the time remaining. I managed 84 all together and recieved a A+, but with 85 it is possible to go one better and get a Distinction. For an A+ you will recieve 80 House Points. Once all the flying is finished, Ron will say he is tired and he is off to bed (already?). You can now end your day at any point. At the end of the day the House Point totals will be counted. No doubt Slytherin will be in the lead, but don't worry this always happens. You will get a 'C' in your report book for this. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~6H~ + + + + + NEVILLE'S TRAPPED-NIGHT ONE + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- Head downstairs to the Gryffindor common room and Hermione will be next to a tapestry. Apparently, Neville is trapped behind it and can't get out. She wants you to get him out. She goes on to say you need the Diffindo Spell to release him. To aquire it, you need to to go to the library and pick up a copy of Marauding With Monsters so you can learn to deal with Horklumps. You then need to go down to the Herbology greenhouses where the DIFFINDO SPELLBOOK is and come back and rescue Neville. Busy enough for you? Well off we go then. Exit the common room and go out onto the 2nd floor. Beware of the prefect out here. Wait until he is on the right hand side of the bookcase and quickly run down the left hand side and exit onto the great staircase. Don't worry if he catches you though, he won't take any House Points from you, he will just send you back to the portrait hole. Anyway, get down to the library and on entry you will notice that prefects are patrolling the area. You will lose 5 House Points if they catch you.Equip some stink pellets to be on the safe side. Make your way down the right hand wall when there are no prefects there. If one catches you, quickly hit them with a stink pellet before they can cast a spell. Once you have done this quickly run through the door on the left and go in. Inside the library, at night there are many ghost-banshees floating around. If they hit you, you will lose some of your Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. The book you want is straight in front of you as you enter (past the foyer). Go over to the stand and read Marauding With Monsters. It will tell you the best method of pulling up Horklumps. Once you have finished, exit the library and get past the prefects using the same method as before (take safest route and use stink pellets).Once you are out of the library, head down to the entrance hall. As soon as you enter the entrance hall, you will notice a prefect walking away from you. Wait until he reaches the opposite staircase and move along and get behind the pillar on your left. Move your camera around to look out upon the hall. A prefect dressed in blue will come from a door on the right of the screen. Wait until he walks past the staircase and goes to the left of it. When he disappears from view, quickly run straight from the main doors. When here, exit the castle. When you get outside, there are more prefects on patrol. Look to the left of the path that goes straight ahead and look for a turret in the distance. Run across the grass towards this turret, but go as quickly as possible. When at the turrt, it becomes a little tricky. Run around the corner (to the right) and a prefect will be walking towards you. Go along the path towards the prefect and drop off of the path to the left as soon as possible. You will now be on the grass and the path should be above you and behind you. To the north west of the path in the distance are the Herbology greenhouses. Make your way directly to them. If you run into any sketchy looking creatures on the way, such as Gytrashes then simply avoid them, rather than taking them on in combat. When you enter, the greenhouse you want is the big one in front of you. Don't bother with the others as they contain nothing of interest. Go to the right and follow the path around (bushes contain useful items) until you reach a group of Horklumps. Dispose of them by using Flipendo and picking them up and throwing them. Behind them is a gap in the wall, so crawl through it. When inside, go to the left and Flipendo the creeper that will challenge you. Here you will find a Wiggenweld Potion stump. Refill your potion vial if you need and carry on to the left, defeat the next creeper and behind it is a Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Helga Huffflepuff. Now, on a raised platform to the right is the DIFFINDO SPELLBOOK. Read it and you will now learn a new spell- the Diffindo Severing Charm. With it you can now cut ropes and tapestries from a distance. When you have finished in the greenhouses, head back to the castle, taking the same route back which you got here with. When inside the castle, wait at the main doors and look out on the hall. A prefect will walk from the left of the screen over to the right hand side of the staircase. When he is on the right of the staircase quickly run up the stairs and go to the right and exit the entrance hall. Now make your way back up the stairs to the seventh floor. On the way you will be stopped at the second floor. Nick the house ghost will be in a stunned state and there will be a curious message on the wall. Professor McGonagall will see you and thinks that you are responsible. She takes you to Dumbledore and in a long scene you will meet the Sorting Hat, Fawkes the phoenix and Dumbledore. He says he knows that your not the attacker but while he does a mysterious voice says....'let me rip you....let me tear you.....' but Harry neglects to say anything. You will now be back in the game and you'll be on the third floor. Go up to the seventh floor and meet Hermione. Use the Diffindo charm on the tapestry to free Neville. When you do you will recieve a Famous Witches and Wizards Card of Gondoline Oliphaunt. Hermione will now go off to bed, so the option to end the day will now appear. Before you do end the day though, go into the room behind the tapestry and in here is another Famous Witches and Wizards card (Balfour Blane). Now end the day when you feel like it. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~6H~ + + + + + HOGWARTS: DAY TWO + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ------------------------ EXPELLIARMUS CHALLENGE ------------------------ From the dormintory go down to the common room and meet Hermione. She informs you that you have Defence Against The Dart Arts this morning. Head down to the third floor and the lesson is through the door in front of you. Lockhart will tell you that you are going to take the Expelliarmus Challenge, where you will recover the EXPELLIARMUS SPELLBOOK. You will be automatically taken to the challenge and a number of doors will immedietly shut behind you.You will now be in a large hall with raised platforms on either side. Go to the right and press the button in the wall. This will release a number of floating steel balls. To defeat them you must target them with R1 and Flipendo them out of the air. After a while, some may stop moving and become stationary in the air. This is a bad thing, as they will develop spikes, turn red and fire themselves at you. Simply avoid these by straifing or moving out of the way entirely. When you hit the ones that are moving with Flipendo, they will be destroyed. When you have defeated them all, climb up the platform on the left (the one with the tapestry). Use Diffindo to sever the tapestry and this will reveal a door. Go through the door and you will be in a room with a cauldron full of Wiggenweld Potion. Refill your vial if you need to and leave the room. When you are back in the hall climb up the opposite platform and go through the door at the top. In the next room you will notice four flame pits in the ground. Go to your right and push the button on the wall. This will lower a spiked ball above one of the flame pits. Opposite the button is a walkway. Move up the walkway (Flipendo or ignore the imps) until you reach a place where a pillar is blocking your path. Look out onto the rest of the room and you will see that the spiked ball is in the foreground of your camera shot. Target it and use Diffindo to break the rope that is holding it. The ball will now drop into the pit and the pillar will be lowered. A button is revealed and when it is pushed, another spiked ball appears above a pit. Move around the walkway (be aware of the imps) until you reach another pillar. Break the rope holding the spiked ball again, the pillar will lower and a cage is revealed. Find an imp, Flipendo it, then throw it in the cage. The top of the cage will now close and a button will be revealed. Push the button and a third spiked ball will appear. Move around to the next pillar and snap the rope holding the spiked ball, this will result in the pillar being lowered to ground level. Go down to the ground, catch an imp and throw it in the cage on the pillar. Push the button and you will be returned to walkway height. Push the next button and the final spiked ball will be lowered. Move to where the final pillar is blocking your path, but take a step back so that you can target the spiked ball. Sink the ball with Diffindo and the pillar will lower and reveal a treasure chest. Inside will be a chocolate frog, use it if you need and go through the door on the right. To your left will be a narrow bridge that has large wheels spinning over it. You have no chance of getting over like that. Look to the right and there are two ropes. Break them with Diffindo and the wheels will slow down, allowing you to pass them one at a time. Once you are over the bridge, go through the door. You will now be in a flame-filled chamber. Follow the path around (ignore or Flipendo the imps) and you will reach a ledge that you can climb up. Notice the chargrilled floor? That's where the nearby flamethrower extends to. Climb up onto the unaffect part, then target and Flipendo the flamethrower. Now quickly run past it and then stop when you come to the next unaffected part of the platform (between the two flamethrowers). Flipendo and run past the next flamethrower, run past it and stop at the next undamaged piece of floor. Repeat this process until you reach the final flamethrower. Flipendo it and head to the left, where there will be a treasure chest. Inside will be a chocolate frog. Now head back to the right, get past the flamethrower and go through the door. There will be a spiked ball suspended above a pit. Diffindo the ball and it will fall down the pit, into a hole and a door will be revealed. Go down the flame pit yourself and head through the door. You will now be in a large circular room with a gargoyle on the other side and a large pit covering most of the floor. In the centre of the pit, on a narrow platform will be the EXPELLIARMUS SPELLBOOK! Read it and you will learn the Expelliarmus spell. With this spell, you can reflect other peoples spell back at them. Use it just before the spell hits you and it will rebound upon them. Now the pit will close up and the gargoyle will come to life as a boss. Wait until it shoots a fireball at you and reflect it back at him with your newly aquired Expelliarmus spell. Beware though, sometimes it reflects the spell back just wide of you, making it difficult to return so it would be better to simply avoid them. Once you have hit it 6 times, it will become more difficult. The gargoyle will now reflect spells back at you and it will also fire multiple spells at once. Deal with these minor problems with Expelliarmus, and hit it 3 more times. After that it will be defeated and will disappear in a cloud of purple smoke. Exit via the same door you came in by and you will be back in the first chamber. The huge doors that locked you in at the start will now retract and you can exit the Expelliarmus Challenge. You will have earned 40 House Points for your trouble, but you will now have to take on Malfoy in a duel. This could be counted as a mini-boss. The first duelist to take 5 points from his opponent wins. Don't cross the line or you will lose a point. Wait until he casts a spell at you and reflect it back at him using Expelliarmus. You can hold left or right on the analog stick whilst you hit it back, to send it wide of him, in a bid to out wit him. Be vigilant though, as he can do the same to you. When this happens, simply dodge them, rather than trying to hit them back. If you lose you will have to attempt it again. When you have hit him 5 times, a scene will show Malfoy playing dirty and sending a snake at you (Serpentsortia!). You (Harry, not actually you) will talk to the snake and stop it eating half the class. They will take it the wrong way and rumours will start that you are the heir of Slytherin, just because you can talk to snakes....God people can be silly. ----------------------------- QUIDDITCH PRACTICE ----------------------------- Quidditch practice next, so pop along to the stadium. To get there, simply meet Ron at the main doors and he will take you there. Once you arrive, then go inside. Oliver Wood will run you through the basics of quidditch. You will quickly notice that this broom is quicker thanthe one used in flying practice. Just keep flying through the rings until Wood tells you that you can boost and when he does, boost your broom using square. Note that you can only boost when there are sparks coming from the end of your broom. Anyway when you boost make sure you keep flying through the rings as this will prolong your boost. On your second boost you should catch up with the snitch. When you are in a position to catch the snitch, wait until it is in front of your outstreched hand, then press X. When you have done this, you will play a practice match with Hufflepuff. You will now have to compete against an opposing seeker. This means that you need to catch the snitch before him. A bar at the bottom of the screen will show yours and the opposing seekers progress towards the snitch. So catch the snitch, win the game the end. If you catch the snitch then you are more or less garunteed a B+. If you achieve this you will recieve the NIMBUS 2000 RACING BROOM. I finished that game in 1.07 minutes and got a Distinction grade, so aim high. In addition to this, you will recieve 80 House Points. The Nimbus 2000 can be used anywhere outside in the Hogwarts grounds. This means more flying and much less walking. Unfortunately, it cannot be used at night. A scene will now ensue, showing a 'heated discussion' between Ron, Hermione and Malfoy. Malfoy will announce that he has been made Slytherin's seeker. After this the option to end the day will become available. When you do this the House Point totals will be calculated. You will inevitably be behind Slytherin, and will recieve a B in your report book. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- + + + + + NIGHT TWO + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- Hermione will meet you at the portrait hole. She wants you to go out on another night time visit, this time to retrieve a copy of Hogwarts: A History, so she can find out about the Chamber of Secrets. The copy of Hogwarts: A History is in the library. Head off down tho the second floor (avioding the prefect on the seventh floor) and enter the library reading room. You need to go through the door on the right to get to the library annex. Head down the right hand wall and hit the prefect with a stink pellet, the quickly run through the door. You will now be in a room with a number of bookshelves (strange for a library I know). The map below shows the layout of the room. The prefects will patrol the section that they are in, they will not remain stationary. So, here's what you need to do. Cast a Flipendo spell between bookcases A and B, so that it hits bookcase C. This will attract two prefects. Now cast a Flipendo spell at the the lowest part of bookcase B (closest to point H) and this will attract all four prefects to that area. Quickly use a stink pellet on all 4 of the prefects and and they will be immobilised for a short time. Now run through the rooms to the potrait of Valeria Myriadd. Give the password and crawl through the newly revealed hole. A scene will show you being trapped in a room by moving bookcases. You will now be in a small, high ceilinged (is that a word?) room. Firts of all go to the left and search all the bookcases for Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans, pumpkin pasties (for health) and stink pellets. When you have finished your search, climb up the ladder on the right hand side of the room. I can tell you from hear on in it could get a little annoying if you fall off anywhere. Now attach yourself to the wall and walk across the narrow ledge. Notice the books flying in and out of the bookcase? Well, wait until the book next ot you has just taken flight, then shuffle across to the next book. You can tell the flying books from the normal ones, as they are lighter than the others. When you are on the next platform, climb up the ladder and do the same as you have just done. Shuffle across the ledge being wary of the books. Repeat this process twice more and you will be on a platform with a door. go through the door. Now you will be in a corridor, move along and go through the door at the other end. You will now be in a room with, Gosh! With more bookcases! Oh me, oh my! Head of to the right and you will find a treasure chest next to a door covered by green ectoplasm. The treasure chest will yield an owl treat. Now head over to there left hand side of the room and you will come across Hedwigs Stand. She will bring you a note telling you about Hogwarts: A History. More importantly, give her the owl treat and she will drop a ladder down, next to the ectoplasm door for you. Climb the ladder (it's on the bookcase). Directly behind you is a wide door frame. Jump onto the door frame and then onto the bookcase. Move to the next bookcase, but stay on the thick one, with the thin one on the right. Now press R1 and you will target a rope, on the balcony, so break it with Diffindo. Now jump on the balcony where the rope was. Move along the balcony (ignore the doors on the left) until you come to the end. Snap the next rope with Diffindo, then jump to the next bookcase. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- + + + + + MESSAGE BOARD, LOST ITEMS AND SECRETS + + + + --------------------------- WASHING MACHINE --------------------------- Press and hold R1 to target the washing machine. ---------------------------- WHOMPING WILLOW ---------------------------- The first thing you should do is go and get your back against the bar-like roots somewhere behind you. The the Willows left hand (to your left) will pick up the Flying Fod Anglia and start smashing it about to hit you. --------------- GARGOYLE --------------- Wait until it shoots a fireball at you and reflect it back at him with your newly aquired Expelliarmus spell. ------------- MALFOY ------------- The first duelist to take 5 points from his opponent wins. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~10~ + + + + + ITEMS GUIDE + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~11~ + + + + + GLITCHES + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- * Occasionally on the quidditch practice, if you achieve a B+ or above, then you don't get the Nimbus 2000! There are only 2 solutions that I could think of for this. First of all try reloading your game and disk. If this does not work then you will have to restart your game entirely. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~12~ + + + + + FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~13~ + + + + + CREDITS + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- - Thank you to GameFAQs for hosting this guide. - Thank you to osrevad for the ASCII art ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~14~ + + + + + COMING SOON + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- - To completely finish the FAQ. ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- ~15~ + + + + + CLOSING WORDS + + + + + ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- Feel free to send me your queries, add-ons, things I have missed out, secrets and such things to EntirelyConfused@aol.com.
