Instead of keeping your map fixed to North, the map will rotate with your current facing. This way I can direct coordinates using cardinal directions. So it is important to know your Cardinal directions in order to get from point to point. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is already(by the date included when I began this FAQ) realeased in Japan. The game was released in Japan on December 15, 2011. It is due for release on January 31, 2012 in North America, February 2, 2012 in Australia and February 3, 2012 in Europe. =============================================================================== Legal Speak =============================================================================== This guide is copyright to myself, Jaliyl Mapp and me under my pseudonym Safer Sephiroth VII. Therefore, I can not be certain that anyone using this guide will experience exactly what I have. Although,I did multiple playthroughs to ensure the information is accurate as possible. So I declare the data in this record is deemed pertinent by myself. Much obliged and Good luck!! When you start the playable demo you will recieve a prompt requesting you to create new save data. Press the action button to confirm and then choose your storage device if needed. Select "Yes" to create new save data and continue. O============================================================================O |Episode 2: Unseen Intruder Bresha Ruins 005 AF| O============================================================================O The gorgeous FMV cutscene will introduce you to the Bresha Ruins on Cocoon. You now hear the voice of the first installment's main protagonist, as she ponders about her sister Serah. --------- |Lightning|: "And you my dear Serah, will you encounter your past here?" --------- "How will you choose to deal with that pain?" Shortly after you will experience a new cutscene with the beautiful Serah and another character by the name of Noel. After the FMV you will be engaged in to your first boss fight. Now I know what you are thinking, "Boss fight! Seriously, already?" Yes, but it is not difficult. Not even for a novice. Just take advantage of the provided tutorial and make haste to survive. =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------- |Boss: Paradox Alpha| ------------------- ========== Statistics ========== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level: N/A HP: 4920 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strength: N/A Magic: N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stagger: 200% Chain Res. 90% CP: 100 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============== Vulnerabilities =============== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fire: Halved Ice: Halved Lightning: Halved Water: Halved ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wind: Halved Earth: - Physical: Halved Magical: Halved ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===================== Status susceptibility ===================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deprotect: - Deshell: - Slow: - Poison: Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Imperil: - Curse: - Pain: Immune Fog: Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daze: Immune Death: N/A Dispel: - Provoke: 70% ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other names: Atorasu Location: Bresha Ruins-005 AF Type: Militarized Unit ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subtype: Giant Common Drop: Phoenix Down Rare Drop: Magician's Mark ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Abilities: ??? Notes: Delivers devastating physical attacks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== Serah:::STRATEGY:::Noel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well for starters, this fight is against a giant right arm. The Alpha Paradox will attack after brief pauses. You should be able to foresee these attacks, as the enemy usually will raise his arm before commencing action. During these melee attacks, I would advise quickly switching to the "Twin Shields" paradigm. Reason being is that you will sustain minimum damage as possible. This is essential because his attacks causes wound damage. Wound damage is when you recieve a blow that causes your maximum HP to decrease. Please realize the only way to increase you maximum HP again is with two options. One - is to heal using a "Wound Potion" from your inventory. Two - is to finish the battle sequence. Basically using the tutorial or just knowledge from Final Fantasy XIII, you want to switch back and forth between paradigms. Double Trouble-X will give you two melee attackers (Ruin if the target is to far in distance or invulnerable to melee). Slash and Burn will give you one attacker and a magic user. War and Peace gives you an attacker and medic. Last but surely not least, is Twin Shields as mentioned above leaving you with two defenders. When you are able to attack between his assaults, use Double Trouble-X to do Heavy damage. If you sustain to much damage switch to War and Peace to heal. If you are having trouble do not worry. After while a "Cinematic Action" scene will take you for a ride. Enjoy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *HINT and TIPS* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roles: Attacker = Commando Magic User = Ravager Defender = Sentinel Medic = Medic Tip: A nice trick is to switch from Double Trouble-X to Twin Shields in the nick of time. If timed correctly you can endure what would be a fatal blow. This tip is not restricted to this fight or demo. You can used this formula and more in the full game as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do not wish to spoil anything but, if you need help the response commands to the Cinematic Action scenes are below. **Cinematic Action Inputs** --------------------------- 1)Left analog right 4)press the 'A/X' button 2)Left analog right 5)Tap 'Y/Triangle' rapidly 3)Left analog up ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When your done with the second Cinematic Action, The last blow will stagger the foe. That will be the perfect time to do intense damage with Double Trouble-X. Once you have depleted his HP, a new sequence initiates. ================= Track down Atlas! ================= After the scene chat with Alyssa (she should be right beside you) by pressing the 'A/X button'. This is just an example on how now you are able to converse with other characters in this game. You were not able to in Final Fanatasy XIII for some design choice or something. Moving on, look behind the mats located south of Alyssa to locate a hidden item. Mog's antenna should be shining bright purple at this point. You will have to press the "RB" button. This is in order to use Mog's skill called "moogle hunt". The attempt should now reveal the sphere. Get familiar with using this ability when seeking hidden items. Travel Southeast (access your full map with the 'X/Square button', if the mini map located top right of your screen is not enough). You can also toggle your mini map on or off with the 'back/select' button. There are a few locales in the area so feel free to chat with any. Once you get to the steps, go to the right to discover another treasure sphere in a small area. If you go around left of that same area; across from some civilians there is another treasure sphere. It contains 350 gil. North of that sphere you should see a female NPC wearing a flamboyant Chocobo costume. It would be a good time to talk to her. Apparently she is a traveling merchant with a nice variety of things for sale. Unfortunately, the merchandise is not really cost-effective. Mainly the Pheonix Down is my complaint. ------------------------- |Shop: Chocolina Emporium | ------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Items: Weapons: ------ -------- Potion 160 gil Meteor Blaze 960 gil Phoenix Down 1,600 gil Howling Soul 960 gil Remedy 250 gil Wound Potion 300 gil Antidote 100 gil Holy Water 100 gil Pain Killer 100 gil Mallet 100 gil Wax 100 gil Accessories: Special: ------------ -------- Iron Bangle 300 gil Gysahl Greens 300 gil Black Belt 500 gil Rune Bracelet 500 gil Star Pendant 650 gil Pearl Necklace 650 gil Warding Talisman 650 gil ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== A Primer will pop up explaining how to equip accessories in detail. If you are a novice read it. That is what tutorials are for, help. You should not need to make a purchase this early on. Just good common knowledge. After you exit the shop, equip the Black belt accessory to any character. If you recieved the "Magician's mark" accessory (as I did) in the previous battle, equip that as well. I personally gave the Black belt to Noel and the Magician's mark to Serah. Refer to your map and head in the direction of the "Track down Atlas" mission. It will be indicated by a yellow exclamation mark. Once you reach the giant staircase you will get some dialogue between Serah and Noel. There will be a treasure sphere adjacent to the left of the top of the steps. You should acquire 2 potions. Now proceed in that direction until a battle sequence is triggered. Well atleast it is not a boss this time. The two you face are Cait Sith and Zwerg Scandroid. Get ready! Serah:::STRATEGY:::Noel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First this fight is fairly simple. The purpose of this battle is to introduce you to the monster taming feature implemented in this game. Your characters will be prepared for this battle. Just go attack as usual and heal if needed. Do not forget, you can use potions which are quicker then switching formations most of the time. I would like to make note of Cait Sith being an annoyance. So I would advise taking him out first or he will keep healing Zwerg Scandroid. Once Zwerg remains alone it should be easy from there. It is not neccessary to attempt staggering each of the two. As both most likely will die before you could anyhow. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- " Paradigm Pack Unlocked!" Enjoy the scene. Mog will explain to Serah how she now has the ability to fight alongside monsters. Read the Primer with information on Monster Crystals. Take the tutorial to learn more about the Paradigm Pack mechanic, also take the Feral Link mechanic tutorial. It will teach you about Feral Link abilities. A special attack that monster allies can perform. You will recieve info in your 'datalog' after the battle. You can check your datalog in the main menu at any time. Now continue traversing on the path until you come across a group of soldiers. They will be in view once your at the top of the stairway. They should be hovering around which appears to be a glowing sphere. The sphere is actually a time gate, this will not be accessible during the demo though. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *HINT and TIPS* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Random Encounters: From now on you may have noticed (or may not) that random encounters occur. If you use the knowledge you obtained (regarding battles) so far, you will be fine. "Practice" will be the key if you want to triumph over larger obstacles later. So train alot during these occurences. Using Moogle Clock: During these random encounters, you may notice a dial at the bottom of your screen. This feature is called the "Mog Clock". Try attacking the enemy with the "action button" when the meter is green, this causes a pre-emptive strike. If it is yellow, the enemy is aware of your presence. This means the foe is ready for battle if you attack it then. In that case a pre-emptive strike is highly improbable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now speak to both soldiers wearing yellow and white armor. One will be named Chester. He will explain that a ferocious Cie'th monster has appeared, causing panic among the Academy staff investigating the ruins. He wants you to defeat the Cie'th for him. Accept the mission. After hearing a warning from Chester, the mission will now be added to your map. Completing this mission grants you 600 crystogen points (CP) and the Ghast Fragment. You also obtain a star pendant accessory from the treasure orb it protects. If you get to that point it will become more clear then. Now, near Chester should be the captain. He will be in white and red armor instead. Chat with him to recieve the mission " Retrieve the two Capsules". Now go South from the time gate. You should see an pink item bag icon on the map. What do you know! Another Chocolina Emporium! "What the heck, is she following our heroes?" Anyway, she has a couple new items, not really alot has changed. Although, you will notice a new category called "Monster Materials". The new items in this section are the following. Monster Materials: ------------------ Potent Droplet 80 gil Potent Bolt 80 gil ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ========================== Retrieve the two Capsules! ========================== Next, continue towards the tunnels tracking the "Retrieve the capsules mission" Mog may start shining bright once again near some rocks on the way. Actually not to far from Chocolina. Reveal the item if you want and get the "Wild Artefact". Sorry but I do not believe the item can be used in the demo. Now go pass the two soldiers until you arrive in front of the tunnel entrance. Do not go down the tunnel just yet. There is a fork so go on the left path instead. Once you get to what resembles a bridge, there is a hidden treasure. It will be to the right of where it begins. Bingo! One capsule down and one capsule to go. Finally, backtrack to the tunnel entrance. Enter the tunnel by jumping at the blue indicator. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *HINT and TIPS* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saboteur Role: If you tame a Dendrobium monster, I suggest using a paradigm involving him. In all my cases it had the role of Saboteur. Saboteur is a role that eschew outright attacks, instead relying on abilities to sap enemies of their strength, afflicting their victims with poison and a wide range of other status ailments. Sabotage your enemies and build chain bonuses, then go in for the kill! That information is credited to the Final Fantasy XIII Instruction Manual. I felt as though they explained it in detail. If you level up Dendrobium he will learn the poison skill. This is helpful against complicated foes. Party of 3: Another thing is, if you skipped the tutorial for paradigm packs, make sure you have a tamed monster in your paradigm. Remember you can customize your paradigms by opening the main menu and selecting "Party Paradigms". Once you do, "Paradigm Pack' will enter monsters in your party and "Customize" will allow you to adjust and create paradigms. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let the tunnel guide you until you see an opening on your left. Go down the giant steps and turn left to find the 2nd capsule. Remember , it will be indicated on your map. Mission Complete! Go back to the "Captain" to turn over the capsules. He will be the teal exclamation point on your map. That was easy right! You will recieve 100CP and the Unio Mistica fragment. Now to explain fragments. Framents are knowledge of the past and world of Final Fanatasy XIII-2. They will play a more significant role in the full version. For now, just consider yourself informed. ================== Defeat The Cieth! ================== You can explore the area but, to get to the next mission, you need to head back to the tunnels. As before, let the tunnel guide you underground. Instead of making a left (to the area where you found the second capsule) continue straight. Once you go up the ramp make a left, cross the bridge then make a second left. Head down the ramp to get 8 mana drops. Mana drops increases a biological monster's magic. You can use them via the main menu under the "Crystarium" option. Backtrack over the bridge, now proceed left. Up the stairway you will pass two soldiers and a time gate. Once on the ramp ahead you will recieve a interesting transmission from Alyssa. There is another sphere close to the top of that ramp. Equip the "Rune Bracelet" if you can. Follow the linear tunnel until you are outside. Go north to the end, then east to recieve a new type of cutscene. Choose a dialouge option. Now it gets interesting! Going east you will notice a ramp on your left, in front of that ramp is a treasure orb. Obtain "Gyshal Greens". There are no chocobos (horse birds) in the demo so you will not need these. If you travel to the 'yellow exclamation' on the minimap you will discover "Atlas". Hence the mission "Track down Atlas!" TA-DA!!! He is Gigantic, is he not??? Safer Sephiroth VII: "Our heroes clinched their respective weapons as they gazed upon the towering menacing titan of...... Oooops! Enough of the theatrics, I got carried away... >.<' Before you act, we still have the current mission at hand. We will be back here later, trust me. If you have not noticed there is a Chocolina in the vincinity, and an item sphere adjacent from her. It holds a Pheonix Down. Chocolina: "If it's the giant you want to take down then take a look around." You should have some gil if you been 'training' in skirmishes alot. The shop has the same merchandise as before. Now will be the best time to purchase the "Meteor Blaze" and "Howling Soul" weapons. That is assuming you have not already done so. Of course Monster Materials will help your monsters level up and wound potions are essential. There is another tunnel entrance across from where you found the Pheonix Down. Go through the tunnel until it ends. You will find another treasure sphere nearby. "You obtained an Orange Newsboy Cap"! This is your first (unless you had the Silver Gear already) adornment. Adornments are special items you can equip to your tamed monsters for aesthetic purposes. This option is also located in the main menu. Go north down the ramps until the path splits in two. Head west, also notice a Chocolina up a ramp in that area. If you need additional items, make sure to buy some. If you continue to head west towards a cube shaped section on the map, a short message will appear. "Target Located!" =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ----------- |Boss: Ghast| ----------- ========== Statistics ========== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Level: N/A HP: 15549 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strength: N/A Magic: N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stagger: 250% Chain Res. 90% CP: 600 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============== Vulnerabilities =============== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fire: weak Ice: weak Lightning: weak Water: - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wind: weak Earth: - Physical: normal Magical: normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===================== Status susceptibility ===================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deprotect: - Deshell: - Slow: - Poison: - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Imperil: - Curse: Immune Pain: Immune Fog: Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daze: - Death: N/A Dispel: - Provoke: N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other names: Location: Bresha Ruins-005 AF Type: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subtype: Common Drop: potion Rare Drop: Cie'th tear ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Abilities: ??? Notes: executes powerful magic attacks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== Serah:::STRATEGY:::Noel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Use his weaknesses against him, he is weak to all magic. He will cast Fira and other attacks that will do massive damage to a single target. So make sure to switch to a healing formation or use potions. Your monsters will go in to Feral Link because of all of the heavy damage recieved. Time the Feral Link commands correctly to make things more simple. The overall diffculty of this fight is moderate. I believe you can do this!! From the orb recieve the star pendant, from the mission 600 cp and the "Ghast Fragment". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===================== Can We Control Atlas? ===================== At this point, you want to see if you can control "Atlas". So we are seeking the device in the previous cutscene. Use your map as a guide once again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *HINT and TIPS* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Staggering Foes: In case you did not realize, magic attacks (used by the Ravager Role) are the key to quickly staggering enemies. So the paradigm "Tridiaster" may be essential for hard to hit single opponents. For instance a Pulse work Knight's defense is virtually impentrable. Little damage are done with normal weapon attacks with one exception, staggering him. This will make him vulnerable to all and even the weakest attacks in your arsenal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Travel north from where you fought Ghast and you will notice an area you have not explored yet. T may be an armed soldier in the tunnel as well. Follow until you arrive to the yellow exclamation in the portion resembling a cube. Noel: "Wierd machine must be it". There you have it the device you have been searching for. After the scene you will have to figure out the labyrinth and it's puzzles as Mog suggests. The following sequences are the key to resolving the anomaly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *HINT and TIPS* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Read the primer explaining the paradox temporal rift. 1st Anomaly/Temporal Rift: 4 squares up, 1 square left, 1 square up, 1 square right, 1 square left, 4 squares up 2nd Anomaly/Temporal Rift: 4 squares up, 1 square right, 2 squares up, 1 square left, 1 square down, 1 square left, 3 squares up, 1 square right, 4 squares up 3rd Anomaly/Temporal Rift: 4 squares up, 2 squares left, 1 square up, 2 squares right, 1 square up, 1 square right, 1 square up, 2 squares left, 4 squares up. Anomaly Resolved! Enjoy the cutscene. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The machine will appear to be working, you will recieve 200 CP and the "Delicate Crystal Fragment". Examine the crystal again to initiate another scene. Now return to the area where you first discovered "Atlas". Safer Sephiroth VII: "See told you we will be back here later". "Get Ready"! "Heaven or Hell...Duel 1! LET'S ROCK!" [50 points to anyone who emails me what game that is from XD] Since Atlas will be now weak I will not assist you from here. Use what you learned from this guide to obliterate and blast the giant to oblivion. Good luck!!!!!!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This has been a Product Of Boredom presented by Safer Sephiroth VII.
