Microsoft's exclusive line-up for 2012 has been pretty bare, but one of the more publicized releases coming exclusively for the 360 using the Kinect is Kinect Star Wars. The game has finally released, and this guide is here to help you get through the various game modes! Introduction and Controls - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - As a Jedi padawan, you play through events that occur during the prequel trilogy that you didn't see. Choose your Padawan. Save the universe! The controls use the Kinect sensor. Since there is a large variety of situations you experience throughout the game, I give details on what you need to do for each section of the game throughout the guide. Also, if you want to play in co-op or multiplayer, simply have a buddy step in front of the Kinect camera! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2. Jedi Destiny: Dark Side Rising - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - At the start of the game, you need to choose which Padawn to play as. You can make your selection by using your hand or by using the Kinect voice commands. ----------- A. KASHYYYK ----------- Before you are able to do anything, you have to complete a bit of a training session on the way to Kashyyyk, the Wookie homeworld. The first actual gameplay you will experience will be the game telling you to pick up your lightsaber. Hold out which hand is your dominate hand to pick up the lightsaber. When the lightsaber is in your hand, the game will instruct you to basically swing your arms back and forth in order to swing the lightsaber. Just replicate the motions of your Jedi Master. They will bring out the training drones. The first couple of encounters with them simply requires you to slash at them. Then they will start firing at you, and the game tells you to make a figure-8 motion with your lightsaber hand. Do this. Then swing at the lasers as they fire at you in the next segment to send them back to the training drones. With the drones, uh, defeated, the game will then teach you about dueling. You need to block the attacks of your partner. Move your arm up, left, right, or down to block the attacks. As you block attacks, your "attack timer" will fill up. Once it's full, you will be given the opportunity to attack your training partner and deplete their health (in a bit). The game will also teach you to use the force when lightsabers lock up by thrusting forward with the hand that you aren't holding the lightsaber in. Once you have the basics down, you will be thrust into an impromtu duel with your training partner using training lightsabers. Apply the knowledge that you just learned. Block their attacks, then go crazy on them with a flurry of strikes once you are given the opportunity. You can also dodge their attacks by hopping a little bit to the left or right, just so you know. On Kashyyk, you will be introduced to Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Mace Winduu. You will then have to learn more basics of the game. To rush forward, you need to step forward aggressively. This will rush your character forward. Then when you see a dummy, kick it. Do this a few times, and then the game will teach you about jumping. To jump, just literally jump. Remember to keep stepping forward to move this segment along. You will then be taught how to move out of the way of things. To do that you, you guessed it, step to the right or left. Keep going, and you will have to dodge obstacles that are swinging across the place. To rush past them, simply step forward when they're both off screen, and you should be fine. Jump, rush, and side-step your way through this. You will eventually be taught to duck, so do that as well and continue. There is a somewhat tricky section where you have to time your jump to make it over a fallen log. Step forward, and right when you're about to fall off the ledge, jump! Then jump over the next log, and then rush forward to meet back up With Yoda. Yoda will then teach you to use the force on the subsequent dummy. Use your non-lightsaber hand to blast the dummy. Your Force training continues. You must lift the ship out of the swamp water. To do this, reach out both hands and kind of point towards the ship. Once it is glowing blue, lift it up, and then shift your hands to the left to drop it in the position designated by the ship outline. Afterwards, you will be taught how to throw rocks with the force. Point at a rock with your left hand, and once it glows blue, fling it towards the rock pillar. You might have to do this, but once most of the other rocks are knocked down, your Force training will continue. In the next step of your Force training, you have to catch a rock that Yoda throws, and then throw it back. To do this, wait for him to throw the rock. Point your left hand at the rock, and then fling it like you did before. Do this a second time to satisfy Yoda that you know what you're doing in regards to the Force. A few droids will pop by to cause trouble. Basically just swing your lightsaber to defeat all of them. That's all there is to it. Next you will be piloting a ship, so be prepared to learn some new Kinect maneuvers! You will have to lean to the left and to the right to steer the ship. Have both of your arms outreached as though you are gripping handlebars or a steering wheel. The ship will move forward by yourself, you mainly just need to worry about dodging incoming obstacles by moving to the left or to the right. There are a couple of other things you can do, though. If enemies are right behind you, Yoda will instruct you to brake by pulling your arms back quickly. This will put the enemies in front of you. To speed forward, thrust your arms forward. As you move through the woods, you will have to defeat enemies that are chasing you. To do that, move behind them. Then position yourself so you are directly behind them, and a reticule will pop up. Just hold your position until they blow up. Repeat the process for any other enemies encountered. Eventually a different type of enemy will show up that will throw bombs at you. To avoid the bombs, just move to the blue area and not the red. Simple stuff. Eventually a few droids will fly over your head. This will prompt a swinging of your arms, which will trigger Yoda to destroy them. However, I discovered that you can simply ignore them and complete this section without any other issues at all. Well, after a brief loading screen, you will be back to zooming along with Yoda, but this time over a body of water. Just do what you did before. When you come across this large spider-like thing in the water, you will have to swing your arm to the left twice as you near its legs so Yoda can destroy it. Otherwise, it's business as usual. Until you come across a few new enemies that fire a ton of laser blasts at once. Move to the left or right to avoid them, and fire at them from behind. If you come up to a ramp and they're still giving you trouble, zoom forward to pretty much lose them until you come across new ones. When you reach the beach, (I'm a poet...but hell, who am I kidding? I knew it), you will be done racing around with Yoda. But you'll be fighting more droids! Slash. Step forward. Slash. Just keep doing this. Droids will then fight you with poles that can block lightsaber attacks. Jump. Slash. Use the Force if you want to make it even easier. Just keep doing this until you reach the camp. Then you will have to lift a fallen tree off of a Wookie using the Force. Do it. Then continue fighting droids. New droid types will emerge, but they are both easily defeated by...you guessed it. JUMP. SLASH. That's seriously all it takes. Fight your way to the beach, but along the way some lizardmen will pop up. Kill them. Continue to the beach. On the beach, you will have to jump (literally) onto these machines that are bombarding the Wookies with artillery fire. Once on the machines, slide your lightsaber downward to slice through it. Jump to the next one, and do the same thing. Then jump down and fight the droids on the beach. Then you will have to toss some rockets out of the way. Use the force to catch the rockets, then fling them away. Then jump on the ship that is procured. On the ship, fight any enemies. Then deflect the bullets of the oncoming enemies, and jump to the next ship. Repeat the process until you land on a floating enemy base. Your Master will run off to set explosives. Fight the two lizardmen. A good strategy is to jump over them and then slash at them, fyi. After a scene and a load, you will once again resume slicing dudes up. Jump when prompted. Move forward when prompted. Keep slicing up enemies. There will then be a platforming segment where you just have to keep jumping from platform and platform, then you will resume slicing people up. Then you will have to move across a bridge, which will also require you to side-step a little bit here and there, and jump over a fallen tree or two. After that, you will fight even more enemies. Finally, you will be back on the landspeeder. But this time you won't be in control of the vehicle. Instead, Chewbacca will be piloting the thing. Your goal on the landspeeder is to protect it from the oncoming enemies by knocking their laser projectiles back and by hitting them with Force push attacks. That is all you do. Later, you will reach water. The big metal spider things from earlier are there. Chewbacca will open a hatch, revealing bombs. Using the Force, fling the bombs at the legs of the metal spider enemies. This will blow up their legs. Then you are free to continue. Back in the woods, large machines will start to follow you. Droids will fly in front of these machines and also attack. Use the Force to fling these droids at the first machine, which will cause it to catch on fire and then promptly explode. With that taken care of, the second machine will get in close. Jump to board it. Then slash away at its side. Then jump to get on top and slash away at the things on top of it. The game will tell you to keep swinging, but you need to jump again to return to Chewbacca and be safe. Continue defending the Landspeeder until the next cut-scene frees you. You then have to duel a Sun Guard. The duel is the same as before, except when your lightsaber hits the enemy's staff, you need to swing your arm wildly to win the struggle. Then you are free to attack him and deplete his health meter. Repeat the process until he's defeated, and you can aboard what is essentially the Millennium Falcon. You have to man the guns to fight off the enemy ships. Just aim the cursor and keep it trained at the ships as they come. A short scene will occur, and then you will have to fight larger ships. Aim at the ships and keep the cursor trained there to deal damage. Smaller ships will come, so take them out as well and then you will start fighting TIE fighters. Take them out as well. The ships will also start firing missiles at you, so blast them out of the air before they can hit your ship. This will go on for a while. If you find you are starting to take too much damage, you can thrust your arms forward to fire mines. Eventually, you will come to a point where you are flying towards a ship that has a forcefield blocking the entrance inside. There are four objects you have to destroy in order to get rid of the forcefield. The game will highlight them as targets, so aim the reticule at the targets to destroy all four of them and get inside the larger ship. ------------- B. PROVIDENCE ------------- Inside, defeat the droids. Keep pushing forward and attacking the enemies as they come. You will encounter two rolling droids that you have to defeat by deflecting their blasts back at them. Eventually, you will start to get overrun by enemies. At this point, you have to jump over a couple of obstacles to reach an elevator. At the elevator, hold your ground and swing your arm wildly to block the oncoming laser blasts until the elevator doors finally close. When they open back up, kill the few droids. You'll be told to smash the next group of droids encountered by using the force to smash the large crate on top of them. Then you will have to fight more enemies. And then more enemies. It's an unless parade of slicing and Force pushing, I tell ya. However, there is a platforming segment involving crates. This section is sort of difficult, so allow me to do my job and tell you how to safely traverse the crates. Firstly, you need to wait for the crate to be scanned, with it pointing more towards the right. Then jump. Then jump IMMEDIATELY onto the next crate. Wait for the third crate to be in view, then jump on that. Then jump again to reach the top. Then resume the slicing and what-not. This continues again until you reach your peers that are trapped. You will then fight off a ton of enemies, including flying ones that will require you to send their laser blasts flying right back at them. Just keep at it until the next cut-scenes play and your Master is back to save the d-d-day! Unfortunately for you guys, a laser hallway (ala Resident Evil the movie?) will boot up as a defense mechanism for the core. Now, this next platforming stretch is actually somewhat challenging. The first set of lasers is simple to dodge, though. Just wait for the farthest laser to start bouncing back. Then you have the perfect opportunity to dash forward and avoid taking damage from the other lasers. You then have to jump to fall into a larger hallway with obstacles as well as other lasers. Wait for the rotating device to move out of the way to dash forward. Move to the left or to the right whenever something is in your way, and continue to dash. Avoid any other obstacles, and then jump across the gap to another laser-infested area. These lasers are a bit trickier. They moving horizontally and vertically, but just dash forward as soon as there's a clear opening. This will happen when the lasers that are horizontal are up and the lasers that are vertical are almost all to the right. This window of opportunity is short, so right when you complete the dash, be sure to jump across the gap to the next platform. Keep in mind that you can actually do this section one laser at a time if you are able to stop your Jedi well enough. If this section is giving you trouble, I recommend trying that out. Otherwise, keep pushing forward, slicing up droids, until you reach the core. At the core, defeat the droid enemies. Then you will have to use the Force to chuck those missile objects on the ground to your left at the core. Flying droids will join the party, so throw them into the core as well, or use your right hand to block their attacks while you continue to throw the missile packs into the core. When enough damage has been done, you will then have to fight off lizardmen and more droids. Defeat them all, then help your Master rip the hooks out of the core device to further damage the core. Use both hands to do this. With the ship about to explode, it's time to haul ass out of there. But the gang is stopped by a group of droids that you have to duel with. Use the same dueling strategies that you've used before. Simply block, win the clash with them, and then swing the lightsaber wildly until its health bar is depleted. You need to do this three times to win the duel. ---------- C. FELUCIA ---------- Welcome to Felucia! Defeat the lizardmen that show up immediately. When they're dead, you have to slice through vines and jump over barricades in order to proceed. More Lizardmen will be your reward, and you will have to kill a whole hell of a lot of them. There will be flying ones as well that you will have to rip out of the sky with your Force ability. When they hit the ground, they will charge you Kamikaze-style, so be prepared to either boot them or send them flying back with the Force if you can't handle the damage. Proceed, slashing vines, jumping when prompted. Whenever you are told to move forward, use the Force dash ability as usual. You will go through a corridor of blue plants, and be ambushed by even more Lizardmen. Defeat all of them and then continue through. You will now be on a speeder again. There are long stretches of nothing that you can thrust both your arms forward to speed through. There will be enemy vehicles that show up occasionally, but they aren't anything to worry about, as their attacks are easy to dodge and it's easy to do damage to them. Eventually, you will come across a shield generator. This requires a brand new motion in order to destroy. You need to bring your arms inward and ball your hands up like a fist. Then you need to thrust them outward and hold your arms to the side, like an airplane. The game will demonstrate how to do this if my description is unsatisfactory. Which it probably is. At any rate, this new, somewhat complicated, body motion will launch a missile that will destroy the generator. Then a bigger enemy vehicle that will toss mines behind it will show up. Stay in the blue, all the while firing at the back of it until it blows up. You will then come across a second generator. Do the same motion as before. And then you will have to avoid blasts, etc., and then have to blow up a third generator. This will bring down the shield. Fighting your way towards the base, you will first have to fight more of the lizardmen enemies. Then you will have to contend with a series of droids. Keep fighting your way through them all until you are able to enter the base. Inside the base, you will go room to room, fighting droids and lizardmen. There is no platforming or anything like that. Literally just go through the motions until you wind up in a duel with a Sun Guard. Defeat the Sun Guard, then resume hacking and slashing your way through the base. In the next section, you won't have your lightsaber available. You will need to jump from platform to platform by literally jumping, as you could probably guess. Whenever you are prompted to fight an enemy, use a combination of the Force and kicks to defeat them. Keep jumping from platform to platform when prompted until you have your lightsaber back, then keep jumping and fighting enemies as they come. Eventually, you will be thrust into another duel, this time with a Sith named Ror. This duel is the same as all the other ones, except it's pretty difficult to win the clash with him. You actually can headbutt the dude when your lightsabers are clashing to gain an advantage. You will now be in another ship. This is another on-rails shooting segment, where you need to aim your cursor at the enemy ships. When you fly over larger ships, they will have turrets on them that need blown up. That's all there is to it. Keep in mind that you can fire missiles by thrusting both your arms forward, as well. Eventually you will reach the capital ship, with special targets on it highlighted in purple. Concentrate your efforts on these targets rather than the enemies. When the purple targets are destroyed, take care of any enemies in the area until more purple targets pop up. That's your cue to start shooting at those again. After a short scene, you will resume flying through space, blasting turrets and enemy ships. You will fly over ships that look similar to the capital ship that you just destroyed. The targets that you need to shoot are the same, but they aren't highlighted in purple. Focus on these to make sure the weapons on these ships won't destroy you from behind. Then you will fly into one of the larger ships. On the left and right, explosives on rails move back and forth. Destroy these, and then maneuver your way by all the obstacles as the ship zooms through the annals of the ship. Then you will come across a large blue core. Fire the ship missiles at the core to blow it up. Then resume dodging obstacles down the hallway. The doors will start closing, so move up and down to avoid being smashed by the doors. This section is tough, but you can bypass all the obstacles easily enough with a little practice. Take hard rights and lefts when necessary to avoid blasting right into anything. And once you complete this section, you have beaten the game! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 3. Podracing - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Podracing is the NASCAR of the future! In Kinect Star Wars, you can partake in Podracing events, just like in your favorite Star Wars movie, The Phantom Menace! ---------- A. DESTINY ---------- In Destiny mode, you get to choose which Podracer you would like to play as. Then you can choose which difficulty to play as. The difficulties change the strength of the AI racers, and how many laps you have to take around the tracks. You can even choose how much the game assists you in terms of braking and steering, depending on how well you can play Kinect. There is a tutorial you can play before starting Destiny mode. Once you start the races, you have to reach forward and grab the handles of the Podracer to get things going. The Podracer controls are similar to the ship controls from the Jedi Destiny mode. You have to move to the left and right to pilot the Podracer. You can thrust forward to zoom forward with a burst of speed. ------------ B. QUICKPLAY ------------ Quickplay is similar to Destiny Mode, but it jumps right into a race and loses the story. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 4. Galactic Dance Off - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -------------- A. HOW TO PLAY -------------- If you've ever played Dance Central or other similarly themed dance video games on the Kinect, you know how to play Kinect Star Wars' dance mode. You basically need to copy the movements of the on-screen avatars in tune with the music. The better you mimic the moves, the more points you earn, which will in turn unlock new songs. Difficulty levels: Casual - For people who just want to dance. Advanced - For dancers who want a challenge. Extended - For those who want to truly test their skills! High scores are uploaded to Xbox Live through the Leaderboard functionality of the game. --------------- B. SONG LISTING --------------- Perhaps hoping to capitalize on the popularity of Dance Central, Kinect Star Wars features a dance mode. Is it Star Wars blasphemy? I don't know, but here's the song listings and how to play this mode! And yes, the songs are obvious parodies of famous songs. Can you name all the parodies? ------------- Hologram Girl ------------- Location: Tatooine ------------- Naturally ------------- Location: Tatooine ------------- Princess in a Battle ------------- Location: Tatooine ------------- Stronger ------------- Location: Tatooine ------------- We No Speak Huttese ------------- Location: Tatooine ------------- Kashyyyk ------------- Location: Bespin ------------- Just the Way You Are ------------- Location: Bespin ------------- I'm Han Solo ------------- Location: Bespin ------------- Aerodynamic ------------- Location: Coruscant ------------- Blasterproof ------------- Location: Coruscant ------------- Empire Today ------------- Location: Coruscant ------------- Demons ------------- Location: Death Star ------------- Ghost 'n' Stuff ------------- Location: Death Star ------------- Little White doves ------------- Location: Death Star ------------- Celebration ------------- Location: Bespin - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 5. Rancor Rampage - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - In Rancor Rampage, the player takes control of one of many Rancors and go on, as the title of the mode suggests, a rampage! The controls of the Rancor are a bit more complicated than anything else you've experienced in the game. Walk - To do this, walk in place. Jump - Jump. Clap Attack - Clap your hands. Charge - Bend down, and then aim your fists at the ground. Swing your arms back and forth like you are running like a leopard or something to do this. Those are some of the basics of controlling the Rancor. Locations: Mos Eisley Felucia Theed Mos Espa Modes: Challenge - Score points by completing non-stop challenges within the time limit. Fury - Destroy as many structures as you can before enemy forces bring you down. Basically, in Challenge Mode, you are virtually invincible, but have to contend with a time limit. Your goal is to allocate a ton of points by completing the constant stream of challenges while also destroying as many buildings, vehicles, and enemies as possible. Fury Mode tasks you with seeing how much destruction you can cause before you are killed. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 6. Duels of Fate - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Duels of Fate is the translation of the duels featured in Jedi Destiny into their own mode. This is the key to duels: Block opponent's attacks by moving your lightsaber arm to the direction that their attack is coming from. This will build a meter. Once it's full, you have to win a lightsaber clash. Win the clash by throwing your arm forward. Then you are free to attack the enemy repeatedly. You usually have to do this three times, and then you will be given an opportunity to freely attack the enemy until its health bar is gone and it dies. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 7.
