This feature will allow you to go to any chapter or section in this guide quickly. On the left side of some of the chapters, as well as the right side of each of the major section headers, in the Table of Contents is a four character code. To access any of those chapters or sections do CTRL-F (PC) or Clover-F (Mac) to activate the Find feature in the web browser. Then enter the code in BRACKETS (or at least the left bracket) like this: [xxxx] or [xxxx You will notice that most chapters do not have a four character code. They are accessed a little differently. To access any of these chapters you activate the Find feature and enter the > character followed by the chapter number like this: >KR6 or >ZD12 This feature also works backwards. You will notice that the Table of Contents has its own four character code. Should you want to quickly go back to the top of this document input the four letter code for the Table and you will instantly be back at the top of the guide. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | Table of Contents [TBCT] | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ >>I. Who Am I? | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ My name is Robert Allen Rusk and I am a hardcore gamer with about 30+ years of gaming experience. I am an ex-gametester (Broderbund Software, LucasArts Games, Point Of View Computing) and an ex-arcade attendant (Namco Cyberstation - Pier 39, San Francisco, CA). I also own multiple systems such as the Sega Dreamcast, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Atari Jaguar, PlayStation 1 and 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I currently work at JCPenneys at one of the malls here in San Antonio, TX. Retail isn't the best job in the world but JCPenneys has given me the job stability I did not have much of prior to employment there. This also led to personal stability that allows me to write and maintain the guides I have built. I started writing guides in 2003 because I felt it was something I could do utilizing my writing skills gained in college and gametesting along with my passion for vidgames. Over time I have honed my overall writing and organization skills plus my creative thinking skills. Additionally, I have extended the play value of the games I have written guides and FAQs for many times over plus I have received many letters from all over the world. I am also what one may call an RGB Analog Video enthusiast. I hack most of my game consoles to try to get the best possible video from them and that usually involves tapping into the RGB Analog video signals and using them on the right monitors to achieve my desires. To this end I became a member of the GamesX.com mod forum and I post on their "RGB + Video Discussions" forum area from time to time. In addition, I am a member of the X-Otic Computer Systems of San Antonio (www.xcssa.org), a group who specializes in Linux, Mac, and other systems. We are also a group of hackers and electronics enthusiasts. I am also a regular forum poster at GameFAQs, an occasional poster at AtariAge, Digital Press, GTA Forums, and Video Game Saga. I am also a member of The MoFaT (a members only message board set up by "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" players who met on the Vice City message boards at GameFAQs). Outside of gaming, my interests include "Godzilla" (I have been a G-Fan since the age of ten) and "Red Dwarf" (I own all eight series plus the "Back to Earth" mini-series on DVD). I am also a long time soundtrack collector with many titles in my possession. As far as favorite sports teams go, my teams are the San Antonio Spurs (NBA) [the local team], the Denver Broncos (NFL) [although I live in Texas, I am originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado] and the Air Force Falcons (NCAA Football). /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN2. My Setup | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ This guide was constructed using TextWrangler on a 1.5Ghz Single Core Intel Mac Mini. I view my work in Safari to help in seeing how it would look on the web and correct format errors. I also play "The Darkness" on a Viewsonic A70 RGB monitor using the Xbox 360 VGA cable. When I do my writing and guide revisions I run my Mac (on a Dell monitor) alongside the Xbox 360 (on my Viewsonic A70 monitor). This way I can simultaneously play and make changes to the guide at the same time. The sound is hooked up to an old stereo box I got from Radio Shack when I acquired my first Amiga 500 in 1990 and it has served me well considering its age. I have completed the "The Darkness" multiple times to get information for this guide. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN3. From The Author | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ Welcome to my guide for the Starbreeze Studios game "The Darkness"! In this guide you will find a lot of useful information in a highly organized format that you can use to get the most out of the game. Quotes taken from readers' e-mail are presented "as is" and may include spelling and grammatical errors. When I first started doing guides and FAQs, I did not know how well it would go over and how many people would respond. I wasn't exactly swamped with e-mail but I do get letters from time to time. Sometimes people would ask for advice and others would say how cool the guide is. All it takes is for one person to say how good and useful your guide is to make it all worthwhile. I want to thank GameFAQs for creating a place where such documents can be hosted for the benefit of all gamers. I also want to thank IGN.com, NeoSeeker.com, TheVGNation.com, GameHelper.com, and many other sites for their generosity in hosting this guide along with my other work on their sites. Finally, I want to thank everybody who has taken the time to download and read this guide (as well as my other documents). With that said, let's get down to business shall we?..... /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN4. About The Guide | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ The main emphasis of this guide is to provide a straightforward way to complete the game as well as acquire all of the unlockable bonuses. This means activating all of the Side-Quests available within the game and collecting all of the Collectables. Although this guide is meant for the Xbox 360 version of the game this can also be used for the PS3 version even though there are no Trophies to go after (therefore PS3 owners can safely ignore all of the Achievement information). Although the game has three difficulty settings, this guide was written based on the *EASY* setting. This is so I can focus on obtaining all of the Collectables, doing all of the Side-Quests, and getting most of the single player Achievements (Xbox 360). Two of the Achievements are tied to game difficulty so by doing all of the collecting and obtaining most of the Achievements on the Easy difficulty setting then you can focus on straight gameplay on them. During the construction of this guide I used the following user created FAQs for additional reference: >>"The Darkness Collectables and Sidequests Guide" - by John McKenna. ******************************************************************* I used this FAQ to help me find Collectables that I hadn't found on my own. I have also tried to come up with better descriptions on where to find and obtain certain Collectables within this guide. >>"The Darkness In-Depth Achievements Guide" - by Scott Grohs. ************************************************************ I used this FAQ to help me attain certain Achievements. I have also tried to come up with better ways and places to do some of the Achievements for this guide. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN5. About "The Darkness" | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ "The Darkness" is based on an obscure comic book published by Top Cow Productions. An odd choice for a licensed based vidgame. But the fact that it was being developed by Starbreeze Studios, the same studio that did the amazing "The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay", made this project one to watch. I eventually received this game as a Xmas present in 2007. I throughly enjoyed this game, enough to make a guide for it which is what you are now reading. Just like TCOR:EFBB it has wonderful graphics, very good story telling and cutscenes (this also includes the scenes that play as the game loads a new area - a nice touch), and very good music. But, just like TCOR:EFBB, it is also a little short and easy (even at the Hard difficulty). In addition, this game was heavily criticized for its lackluster Multiplayer. Even with these weaknesses "The Darkness" is still a worthy title to add to one's Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 game collection. There is also one other thing I should note, and this is mainly for the Xbox 360 version (although I don't know if this happens on the PS3 version also). As I just stated, the music and sound effects are top notch. However, the sound *QUALITY* is atrocious. It sounds like the music and speech was put onto a old cassette tape and run about 100 times until it became worn. Does anybody know if this is a sound encoding problem during development or something with the console's operating system? I would like to know for future revisions. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN6. Controls | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ Although the manual covers the setup pretty good, I felt that I should include a section on controls for those who have acquired used copies of "The Darkness" that have no manuals. /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 | GEN6.A. Weapons and Weapon Usage | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ Listed in this chapter are the Weapons that you can wield plus additional knowledge on them: /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 | GEN10.A. Weapons \ \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 0======0 | Hands \ 0=====================================> This is not a weapon but it shows that you are disarmed. 0========0 | Pistols \ 0=====================================> Most of your enemies will drop this dual-wielded weapon (12-round clip) when killed. This is mainly used for close combat situations and shooting out lights. When using the Zoom then the Pistol can be pretty accurate at medium range distances. When reloading, you don't reload the Pistol but swap to another one you have in your inventory. 0=================0 | Sub-Machine Guns \ 0=====================================> These dual-wielded weapons are pretty nice in a tight situation. But you won't find as many of these as you would the Pistols so save them when the going gets tough. In addition, even though they are rapid fire (30-round clips), these weapons are not very accurate so it is best to use them in close combat. 0===============0 | Combat Shotgun \ 0=====================================> This is also known as a SPAS Shotgun (often used in the Grand Theft Auto games). This pretty powerful weapon (12 round clip) is only good at close range and can only fire one shot at a time. This weapon is mainly used by the Police. 0===============0 | Tactical Rifle \ 0=====================================> This is also known as an M-16. This is a nice rapid fire weapon with a 25-round clip. This is also accurate from long distance when using the Zoom. This weapon is mainly used by the SWAT Police. 0================0 | Automatic Rifle \ 0=====================================> This is also known as an AK-47. Unlike the Tactical Rifle this weapon (20-round clip) has a slower rate of fire and is not as accurate from long distance when using the Zoom. 0=============0 | Riot Shotgun \ 0=====================================> If you like Shotguns then you are going to love this bad boy. This weapon kind of looks like a Grenade Launcher but this is much better, especially in a crowded room. Imagine a cross between a machine gun and a Shotgun. This puppy can rapid fire shotgun shells from a 64-round barrel (when Fire Right is held down). Nice, huh? Too bad this weapon gets overshadowed by the Darkness Guns but this is still a nice toy to play with even with the short range. This weapon is mainly used by the SWAT Police. /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 | GEN10.B. Weapon Usage \ \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 You can use the above Weapons and The Darkness in combination. When entering a Subway then you will automatically disarm. You cannot use Weapons when in the Subway system. In addition, when Disarmed, you can bring out a Weapon by either using Fire Left or Fire Right. It should be noted that the Weapon you bring out by doing this will be the Weapon you had last before Disarming. For example, if the last Weapon you had in your hand before Disarming was the Tactical Rifle then when you do Fire Right (or Left) you will bring out the Tactical Rifle. This can be useful when walking into a hostile situation by allowing you to do a surprise attack. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN11. Health | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ There are no health indicators on your screen. But there is a way to tell when you have taken too much damage. If you are being shot at and receive damage then you may find your screen going red. If this happens then get away from the situation for a little bit. Once the redness disappears then you are recovered and and you can continue fighting. If you continue receiving damage when your screen is red then you will "die" and you will restart from the last saved checkpoint. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN12. The Darkness Explained | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ The Darkness is a parasitic creature, "old as time", that is passed down from generation to generation within a given family line and makes itself known to the host, which is a first born male, on the host's 21st birthday. And it cannot allow the host to die until it is the appropriate time. It is a very powerful being and gives you all kinds of incredible powers. But it is also a dark and malevolent beast who has consumed many a soul during its lifetime. Now to explain its capabilities..... /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN13. The Darkness Powers | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ The Darkness is best used when there is no light. So you need to knock out all nearby light sources when you decide to use your Darkness Powers. The Darkness is manifested by pressing Manifest The Darkness. When you do this, two Demon Heads will appear on both sides of the screen. If your Darkness Energy is low then the Demon Heads will suck up the darkness to replenish itself (it looks like they are sucking up a dark mist). You will see glowing dots on the Demon Heads and they indicate your current Darkness Energy level. When they are all alight and bright then your Darkness Energy is full. These lights will also indicate what Darkness power you are using. If you walk into a bright area when The Darkness is manifested then you will hear a sizzling sound. At this point your Darkness Energy will drain. When it is completely drained then The Darkness will automatically de-manifest and you cannot use it again until you go back into a dark area. When you use a Darkness Power then you will use your Darkness Energy. If you use up all of your Darkness Energy then you cannot use that Darkness Power again until you replenish your Darkness Energy. As stated in the Controls chapter, you can Activate Darkness Power without manifesting The Darkness first. When pressed, you will manifest The Darkness and use the selected power simultaneously. This action is quite useful when planning attacks. When entering the Subway, you will automatically de-manifest The Darkness. You cannot use The Darkness within the Subway system. Now to go over your Darkness Powers: 0==============0 | Darkness Mode \ 0=====================================> When you manifest The Darkness then you automatically enter Darkness Mode. It will provide you with the following powers: >>Darkness Vision *************** This allows you to see the Darkling Portals that only appear when The Darkness is manifested. This also gives the objects you see in a golden glow so you can see in the dark. >>Darkness Shield *************** This provides a shield to protect you from harm. However, it doesn't make you invincible so you still need to take cover when in a combat situation. But it will make you harder to kill. This drains Darkness Energy when you take damage. 0==============0 | Devour Hearts \ 0=====================================> This is one of the most important things you can do. When you kill an enemy then you can then Devour the enemy's Heart. This automatically maximizes your Darkness Energy. Certain enemies will emit black smoke from their mouths when dead. Devouring these Hearts will give you new powers and Darklings. In addition, you cannot devour Hearts of dead civilians. Only those of people that attack you. But, most importantly, Devouring Hearts will increase your..... 0===============0 | Darkness Level \ 0=====================================> When The Darkness first makes itself known, it isn't very powerful at first. But with each Heart you devour then you gradually increase your Darkness Level. There are five levels and you start at Level One. When you gain a Darkness Level then you will become more powerful. You will achieve Level Five, maximum Darkness Level, at 180 Hearts. You must make it a habit to Devour Hearts whenever you can to maximize your Darkness Level as quickly as possible. This guide will show you places where you can get extra Hearts to speed up the process. These Hearts are also *NON-CUMULATIVE*. What this means is that if you start an area with 10 devoured Hearts then devour 10 more to make it twenty and then die and restart the area, the Hearts devoured will be reset to 10. This keeps you from re-doing an area over and over again to maximize your Darkness Level early. Since I will be attacking and devouring Hearts a lot in this guide I will use the shorthand "Devour". This means "Attack the enemy then Devour his Heart". There are also a couple of Achievements based on Devouring Hearts. 0==============0 | Creeping Dark \ 0=====================================> This is the first major power you gain in Chapter One. You will be using this power a lot. The lights on the Demon Heads will glow orange when this power is selected. Creeping Dark is used to scout out areas, stealth kill enemies, and obtain hard to reach objects. You use Darkness Energy when you use this power. When you run out of Darkness Energy then Creeping Dark will automatically retract. It will auto retract if an enemy manages to get a good shot on the Demon Head. When stealth killing an enemy, just get close to him and press Fire Right to rip out his throat. You can also Devour Hearts with Creeping Dark. When you Devour Hearts with Creeping Dark then your Darkness Energy will be maximized and you can continue using it. You can make Creeping Dark last a long time in an area full of enemies if you Attack them then Devour Hearts. You can also grab objects, like Collectables, with Creeping Dark. Just go to an object and press Use when close enough and prompted. In addition, you can do other interactions, like smashing panels and unlocking doors, with Creeping Dark. Creeping Dark will automatically pick up weapons on its own when close enough to one. 0==========0 | Demon Arm \ 0=====================================> You gain this power in Chapter Two. With Demon Arm you can move and throw large objects, silently destroy light sources, and kill your enemies by impaling them. It should be noted that certain enemies cannot be killed with this power. In addition, the Demon Heads will glow red when this Darkness power is selected. 0==============0 | Darkness Guns \ 0=====================================> You gain this power in Chapter Two. These are very special weapons that use Darkness Energy. The Demon Heads will glow green when this power is selected. The right gun is essentially a handgun and behaves as such. The left gun emits a powerful shockwave that can kill at close range. When this power is activated then Activate Darkness Power to switch from your standard weapons to the Darkness Guns. If you are sitting in a dark area then you have near infinite ammo and you don't have to reload. This weapon can kill those that cannot be killed by normal means. 0===========0 | Black Hole \ 0=====================================> You gain this power in Chapter Three. With this you can create a powerful Black Hole that sucks in nearby enemies and kill them. The Demon Heads will glow blue when this power is selected. It can also destroy wooden objects. You can detonate it, and create more damage, by pressing Activate Darkness Power before it evaporates. This will use up all of your Darkness Energy regardless so it is best to use this while in a dark area so you can quickly replenish your Darkness Energy. 0==========0 | Darklings \ 0=====================================> Darklings are impish little creatures born from The Darkness. They can only be called up from a Darkling Portal. These portals are holes of light on the ground with tentacles. You need to keep the Darklings out of the light or they will die. You can direct them by aiming the Aiming Reticle in the direction you want it to go and press Redirect Darkling. Listed below are the four Darkling types found in the game: >>Berzerker ********* This Darkling is acquired in in Chapter One. The Berzerker will attack nearby enemies until killed. This particular Darkling can be randomly outfitted with various clothing that you find within the game. There are a total of eight outfits (six within the game story plus two through phone calls). This guide will show you where to find them all. There is an Achievement tied to finding the Darkling Outfits. >>Gunner ****** This Darkling is acquired in in Chapter One. The Gunner has a Mini-Gun which she uses to mow down her enemies. Even if she doesn't manage to kill enemies this Darkling makes for a good diversion so you can do other things. >>Kamikaze ******** This Darkling is acquired in in Chapter Two. The Kamikaze goes up to enemies and blows himself up taking them with him. >>Lightkiller *********** This Darkling is acquired in in Chapter Two. The Lightkiller has a device that will destroy nearby lights. This device can also be used as a weapon against nearby enemies. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN14. Other Activities | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ In this chapter I go over a couple of things that you can do in addition to the Main Story: /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 | GEN14.A. Collectables \ \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 Throughout the game you will find flashing pieces of paper and envelopes. These are the Collectables. They help to open up Extra Content that can be viewed in the Extra Content option in the Main Menu. However, picking up Collectables doesn't automatically unlock the content. You either have to find a Phone and call the Collectable numbers or post the Collectable letters in a mailbox. In addition, certain Collectables can only be obtained by doing Side-Quests which are explained later. There are a total of 100 Collectables that unlock a total of 116 pieces of Extra Content. This guide will show you where to find them and the best way to obtain them. /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 | GEN14.B. Side-Quests \ \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 Within the game you will encounter many people. Most of them don't want anything to do with you. But others want your help with certain activities. By helping people out then you are activating Side-Quests. Most Side-Quests are easy and won't take long to complete. You are usually rewarded by with Collectables. There is also an Achievement tied to doing Side-Quests. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | >GEN15. Achievements (Xbox 360 Version) | \=========================================================================/ \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ Listed in this chapter are all of the Achievements for the Xbox 360 version of "The Darkness". Even though the PS3 now has Trophies, something that wasn't around when the game was released, Starbreeze Studios didn't add Trophies to this game after the fact. To those who do not own an Xbox 360, Achievements can be considered a different kind of scoring system. Each Xbox 360 game has 1000 Achievement Points that can be obtained. Some can be acquired by simply playing through the game. Others can be obtained by doing certain objectives outside of normal gameplay. To many gamers this adds to the replay value of each Xbox 360 game and gives them bragging rights on Xbox Live where these scores are posted. One annoyance to Achievements is that, depending on the game, the 1000 Achievement points are split between Single Player and Multiplayer modes. So, if you do not have the necessary connections to get on-line, then you most likely cannot get into multiplayer matches to obtain the Multiplayer Achievements. Sadly, "The Darkness" is one of these split Achievement games. Many of the Achievements within "The Darkness" are easy to get. Some require more work. They are broken down into Single Player and Multiplayer sections: /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 | GEN15.A. Single Player Achievements \ \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=0 0=========0 | Anti Air \ 0====================================================> Description: Bring down the Chopper. Achievement Points: 15 G. Notes: This can only be done in Chapter Three within the Turkish Baths section. I will go into more explanation there. 0==========0 | Anti Hero \ 0====================================================> Description: Complete the game on Normal setting. Achievement Points: 25 G. Notes: The first of two difficulty based Achievements. 0===========0 | Beginnings \ 0====================================================> Description: Complete the first part of the game. Achievement Points: 25 G. Notes: You must actually kill the German Soldier at the very beginning of Chapter Two to obtain this one. 0=========================0 | Bringing People Together \ 0====================================================> Description: Trap 5 enemies within a Black Hole. Achievement Points: 5 G. Notes: The easiest place to do this is in Chapter Five. It can be done doing Terrence Willis' Side-Quest. I will go into more explanation there. 0=========0 | Cannibal \ 0====================================================> Description: Devour 300 enemies. Achievement Points: 25 G. Notes: Once you devour 180 Hearts to obtain maximum Darkness Level then it is just 120 more to get this Achievement. It isn't really hard. Just continue devouring every Heart you find to get this Achievement. You should get this partway through Chapter Five. 0==============0 | Completionist \ 0====================================================> Description: Unlock 100 Collectables. Achievement Points: 20 G. Notes: Self explanatory. You should get this just before the last portion of the game. 0==============0 | Crazy For You \ 0====================================================> Description: Acquire Black Hole. Achievement Points: 25 G. Notes: This is acquired in Chapter Three within the Turkish Baths section. 0================0 | Darkling Master \ 0====================================================> Description: Acquire all Darkling types. Achievement Points: 15 G. Notes: You will get this when you unlock the Lightkiller Darkling in the latter stages of Chapter Two. 0================0 | Darkness Master \ 0====================================================> Description: Only for those who are completely in tune with the Darkness. When you get all five of these Achievements then you will get this one. It should be noted that these stats are *CUMULATIVE*. This means that if you start an area having Creeping Dark at 10% and you kill a number of enemies with it to increase it to 20% and then you die and have to restart the area over then you will still have the 20%. This means that you can go through the same area several times, using Checkpoint Restart, and still increase these stats. In addition, you can also keep your stats if you restart Chapters, even Chapter One. Also, you can increase these stats by killing civilians. 0============0 | Executioner \ 0====================================================> Description: Kill 25 enemies using Execution Moves. Achievement Points: 10 G. 0============0 | Fashionable \ 0====================================================> Description: Collect all the Darkling Outfits. Achievement Points: 25 G. Notes: Enter the Subway after the Trinity Cemetery area in Chapter One to get this Achievement. 0==============0 | Heart of Gold \ 0====================================================> Description: Help those in need. Achievement Points: 50 G. Notes: You must do all of the Side-Quests to obtain this Achievement. Most of them are done in Chapter Five. I will explain them as I activate them within the guide. 0======0 | Hills \ 0====================================================> Description: Acquire Darkness Guns. Achievement Points: 25 G. Notes: This is acquired within Chapter Two. 0==============0 | Into the Dark \ 0====================================================> Description: Complete the second part of the game. Achievement Points: 50 G. Notes: This is actually acquired when you load up Chapter Four. 0==================0 | Keeper of Secrets \ 0====================================================> Description: Someone is waiting by the phone. Achievement Points: 10 G. Notes: This is an interesting little side mission. As you go around the various areas within Manhattan you will find posters, billboards, and advertisements. Most of them have phone numbers. Some of these numbers, when dialed, will start a phone call with the Keeper of Secrets. You need to dial eighteen special phone numbers to complete this side-mission and acquire this Achievement. I will go over this Achievement in more detail in Chapter 1. 0===================0 | Knuckle, Meet Face \ 0====================================================> Description: Perform a melee kill for the first time. Achievement Points: 5 G. Notes: Self explanatory. But I do point out one place (Dutch Oven Harry's hideout in Chapter One) where it can be easily done. 0===============0 | Legendary Dark \ 0====================================================> Description: Complete the game on Hard setting. Achievement Points: 35 G. Notes: The second of two difficulty based Achievements. 0======================0 | Legendary Executioner \ 0====================================================> Description: Kill 50 enemies using Execution Moves. The Main Story [THMS] | \==XX====XX====XX====XX====XX====0##***##0====XX====XX====XX====XX====XX==/ \==XX====XX==/ \==XX====XX==/ Before I go on let's go over the cast of characters: 0================0 | Jackie Estacado \ 0=====================================> When Jackie was a young boy he lost his parents and was consigned to St. Mary's Orphanage in Manhattan. At the age of 12 he was finally adopted by the Franchetti family. However, the Franchetti's are also a Mob family and Jackie grew up to become a part of it eventually becoming a hitman and enforcer for them. He also grew up understanding and respecting the old ways of the Mob, much to the dismay of his Uncle Paulie who runs the Franchetti crime family. 0=============0 | Jenny Romano \ 0=====================================> Jenny was also an orphan growing up at St. Mary's Orphanage. She became friends with Jackie during the time they spent together at the Orphanage. Jenny is the person Jackie loves. But Jackie has never told her the truth about what he does for a living. Sooner or later he will have to tell her. 0==================0 | Paulie Franchetti \ 0=====================================> Paulie Franchetti is the current Don of the Franchetti crime family. He took over when Jimmy Franchetti died thirty years ago. Paulie is also a psychopath and parasite. In addition, he has forsaken the old Mob ways and made up his own rules much to the anger of the older members. Paulie is also Jackie's "father" and the two are always at odds over how things should be. 0===========0 | Aunt Sarah \ 0=====================================> Aunt Sarah is the widow of Jimmy Franchetti. Although she doesn't do much within the crime family she is the symbolic figurehead of the Franchetti's. She loves Jackie and Jackie considers her the mother he didn't get to have. When Paulie took over the crime family most of the members forgot about her, except for the older members and Jackie himself. 0======================0 | Captain Edward Shrote \ 0=====================================> There are many wonderful, brave individuals who help protect and serve in the many Police forces within the United States and around the world. However, Edward Shrote is *NOT* one of them. He was bent long before he became a member of the Police force of New York. Shortly after he joined up he met Paulie Franchetti. The two have much in common and became friends and business partners. Paulie helped Shrote bust up some of Paulie's enemies and that helped make Shrote become Captain. Shrote also serves as Paulie's main enforcer using other bent Cops to collect protection money and intimidate the weak. 0==============0 | Butcher Joyce \ 0=====================================> Butcher Joyce is what is known as a Cleaner. A Cleaner enters the scene of a Mob hit and scrubs the place down thus removing all evidence. He has been working for the Mob for over thirty years. The main reason he has managed to stay alive within the volatile power struggles of the Mob is that he has never taken sides. Ever. But Butcher is a supporter of the old ways and would like to see them restored. However, he may have to forgo his neutrality in order for that to happen. With that explained, let's start the story..... /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ /=========================================================================\ | II.1. Pull your Right Analog Stick either up or down depending on your setup to awaken. There are two guys, Mikey Cimino and Nino Moretti, in the front seat of the convertible. They begin to talk about how they didn't get the money for Paulie and how upset he is going to be. As they continue talking they mention about going over to Grave's End Construction Site to whack a guy there. They feel that doing the job would calm down Paulie. Unfortunately, the Cops find them and begin to chase them. Mikey begins to drive erratically to shake off the Police. Nino then gives Jackie a Combat Shotgun and Jackie begins to load it with shells. Then, one of the Cop cars hits the convertible which sends Nino hanging over the side. But, before he can get back in, Mikey sideswipes a large truck which slams Nino's head into the back corner of the truck taking out a large chunk of his skull, killing Nino in the process. Jackie then goes into the front seat and you are finally given control. Shoot out the front windshield. Shortly afterwards you enter the Grave's End area. You will encounter multiple workers who will shoot at the vehicle but can't hurt you. This is also where you will get your first chance at an Achievement: >>"Roadkill" Achievement ********************** For this one you need to kill most of the workers inside the tunnel. If you set up your controls properly (high X and Y Sensitivity, maximum Auto Aim) you can get this Achievement in about three tries (once you have memorized the area). This Combat Shotgun doesn't need to be reloaded so keep your finger on the trigger the whole time. By setting your controls for maximum sensitivity then you can whip the gun around quickly. By setting the Auto Aim at maximum then the weapon will quickly move to where you can do the most damage to the enemy. You need to kill about six of the workers to get the Achievement. Mikey then pulls out a couple of guns which happens to be his birthday present to Jackie. You can spend some time talking to Mikey about Sullivan (the foreman - and target). When you suggest that they cancel the hit then Mikey refuses and states that he is feeling good enough to do the hit. But this feeling is all too brief as Mikey collapses and dies. Bring out your guns and shoot off the lock to open the nearby door. Go through the door and go right. You will also hear that weird voice again. Go through the next door and gently creep up the stairs to your left. You will also get a notice on performing an Execution Move. Sneak up to the worker at the top of the stairs and perform an Execution Move. In the process you will also acquire the: >>"Up Close and Personal" Achievement *********************************** Killing this worker will alert two more who come out to confront you. Go back down the stairs a bit and pick them off from there. Once you kill them, come up and collect the weapons they drop. From here, enter the main building and go right. Go through the door and go left but stop at the corner. You should hear a television but there are three workers around the corner. Peek around the corner and pick them off. After you kill them then you will hear a helicopter overhead. Turn around and go back outside then look down the set of stairs you came up on earlier. From the bathroom entrance you can pick off the five additional gunmen who come to confront you. This will give you additional ammo for your guns when you kill them. Now go into the bathroom until you find Frank Rottenberg. Sometimes you can talk to him, sometimes you can't. If you can talk to him then ask him how to get out. After talking, or not talking to Frank, leave the restroom. But, as you near the door, The Darkness finally makes its presence known and manifests itself. When this Heart is Devoured it will give you the ability to bring up a Berserker Darkling. Call up a Darkling and he will open up the gate so you can leave. After opening the gate, this Berserker will attack another Goon hiding behind a large object. After that Goon dies then Devour his Heart plus the one from the Goon that was thrown out earlier. Now turn around and head back through the Cemetery. Remember that window where you saw the Collectable? We're heading back to that room. Shoot out the nearby lights, back away from the door, manifest The Darkness, and use Creeping Dark. Go to the small vent at the bottom of the door and attack it to dislodge it then enter the room to collect: =============== ++[Collectable #29]++ =============== After acquiring the Collectable then retract Creeping Dark and head back through the Cemetery and to the gates. After that then turn left and head forward toward a garage door. You will notice that it is partially open. Use Creeping Dark and enter the garage where you will find: ============== ++[Collectable #2]++ ============== Now turn left and head toward the subway entrance. But you will hear a struggle and a maintenance man will be killed. When you go down to him then you will find a locked gate. You will also be taunted by a Goon. Go back up and turn left. You will see a small mini building. It has a vent that will allow you to gain access to where the Goon is. Use Creeping Dark to enter the vent and attack the fan. Then go inside, Devour the Goon, and get the key. Retract Creeping Dark and de-manifest. After that then head into the Subway and in the process you will acquire the: >>"Happy Birthday" Achievement **************************** 0=-=-=-=-=-=0 / Chapter One \ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ | >CTO4. When you do then you will get a page from Jenny who wants you to call her. Before we do that, however, it is time to do a little exploring of the Canal Street Station area. When you enter the Trinity Cemetery Station area, turn left and you will see a Phone and a Subway Information Terminal. Go behind the Subway Information Terminal and you will find: =============== ++[Collectable #34]++ =============== Head out of the Trinity Cemetery Station area and toward the Canal Street platform. As you near the corner you will be flagged down by Enzo Scardina. Talk to Enzo and he will tell you where to find a phone to call Jenny. After talking to him then head down the stairs but continue straight and up toward the Lower East Side Station. When you get past the Subway gates then you should see another Subway Information Terminal to your right. Behind it is another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #19]++ =============== It should be noted that if you try to go into the Lower East Side you will find a locked gate with a Police Officer. Head back and down toward the Canal Street platform. When you reach the bottom of the stairs, turn right. You should see a Phone but don't use it. Continue forward to the track and turn right. Continue past the bench and turn right near the red signal light. In the small hallway you will find a Collectable on the ground: ============== ++[Collectable #3]++ ============== Continue forward to the next track and you will find a green signal light. Look to your left and you should see another Collectable sitting just inside the tunnel: =============== ++[Collectable #88]++ =============== After acquiring the Collectable then get back on the platform and head toward the Chinatown Station area. As you climb the stairs then you will find a man standing by himself. Talking to him will give you the option of doing a Side-Quest. Normally I would wait until near the end of the game to do most of the Side-Quests but there have been reports concerning not being able to get this Side-Quest late in the game so I will do his now: >>Side-Quest: George Hadel ************************ George is upset that a certain person, Compton Scarr, won't let him play his harmonica. You agree to talk to Compton so George can play his instrument again. Compton Scarr is down on the platform near the Phone leaning up against a pillar about twenty feet away from George. After talking to Compton then go back up to George to complete the Side-Quest. In return he will give you: =============== ++[Collectable #39]++ =============== After completing to Side-Quest then head into the Chinatown Station area. Go to the left side of the area to find a Phone. Now it is time to call some phone numbers. First, call Jenny. She will tell you where to find her. She is in an apartment in Chinatown near the basketball court. Next, call the Collectable numbers. When you call the first one then you will receive the: >>"Picking Up Stuff" Achievement ****************************** And then there is the: >>"Keeper of Secrets" Achievement ******************************* As noted earlier there are special phone numbers that will allow you to interact with the Keeper of Secrets. You need to dial eighteen special phone numbers to complete his calls and acquire this Achievement. Someone had posted on the GameFAQs Message Boards a listing of thirty five numbers that can be used for this side mission but I only managed to find twenty of them within the game. When you use the phone you have the option of actually dialing in the number. But you don't need to dial the whole number, just the last four digits. Listed below are the last digits of the twenty numbers I found that can be used to quickly acquire this Achievement: 1206, 7934, 3947, 4565, 3243, 3840, 6325, 4569, 5723, 1233, 8024, 9898, 1037, 9562, 1847, 9132, 9985, 6322, 6893, 2402 In addition, there are also two special phone numbers that you can call which will unlock optional Darkling Outfits: >>Special 2K Darkling (555-4263) ****************************** >>European Retailer (Golfer) Darkling (555-5664) ********************************************** As you head toward the Chinatown Station exit then you will encounter Nicky Barruci. We need to get rid of them first before we can explore. But, before I go any further, I should point out that this is an excellent place to get Execution Moves for the "Legendary Executioner" Achievement. Just run up to the hitmen and perform them. However, even at Easy mode, most of the time they can kill you after you perform a couple of Execution Moves. But you can still accumulate them quickly enough to get this Achievement out of the way if you wish to pursue it. When you climb up the stairs to ground level then sidestep right to find the Tourist Information Map. It shows all of the streets in the Chinatown area, landmarks, and where you are currently at in relation to everything. You will find these Maps in many places in all of the New York areas and this will help you find where you are at. In addition to the Map you should also find posts with street name signs, usually at the intersections, that will tell you where you are at. You will also find street name signs on walls at intersections as well. The combination of street signs and Maps will help you from keeping lost. Before attacking the hitmen sidestep left from the Map and against the wall then move forward. After a short distance then you should find a glass case with some kind of clothing inside. This is one of the six main Darkling Outfits: >>Darkling Outfit #1 - Potato Sack Outfit *************************************** From here, turn left and enter the nearby alley. Turn right at the corner and proceed to the end of the alley. Creep out and turn right then pick off the nearby hitmen. After killing the five hitmen and Devouring their Hearts (plus getting their dropped Pistols) then blow out all nearby lights and go to the end of Orchid St. where it meets Harcourt St. Here, near the large container crates, you will encounter two more hitmen. Deal with them the same way as you did the others. Not far from the container crates, near the corner, is a trash bin against the wall. In the corner next to the trash bin is: ============== ++[Collectable #5]++ ============== After obtaining the Collectable then continue along Harcourt St. where you will find two more hitmen. Devour them and, at this point, with fifteen Hearts taken, you should now get an additional Darkness Level. From here, continue around the corner and back to the Subway entrance. Now go back to Orchid St. and turn left. Continue forward and when you get to the corner of Orchid and George streets, you will find two more hitmen. But before you get there, go to where the blocked off apartment entrance is at, kill a couple of lights, then activate Creeping Dark. Now creep up to the corner but don't turn it quite yet. If you stay put you can listen to some funny conversation between the two hitmen. If you turn to your left you should see the entrance to Doyers Alley and the back entrance to the Green Olive Grove Restaurant. When they're finished talking then go around the corner, Devour them, and pick up weapons. Then retract Creeping Dark, shoot out all nearby lights at and inside Doyers Alley, and go back to the corner and down George St. After you get past the two trash bins and phone booth you should see two small poles on the right side of the street. This indicates the entrance of a small L-shaped entranceway for a closed door. By this door is: =============== ++[Collectable #53]++ =============== Continue down George St. and Turn right at the corner then go along Victoria St. while shooting out all the lights you encounter. As you get to the intersection with Mulberry Alley you should start to hear Jenny call out to you. Ignore her for now. Continue down Victoria St. and when you get to the the intersection with Lester St. then you will find the last two hitmen. Hang back, knock out some lights leading to the intersection, and use Creeping Dark. Creep up to the hitmen, Devour them, pick up weapons, and retract Creeping Dark. Not far from this corner is a closed Newsstand and a Phone Booth. In front of this closed Newsstand is another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #91]++ =============== Fron here, continue down Lester St. then turn right when you reach Orchid St. Go forward until you get back to the Orchid and Plum St. intersection. When you reach the Orchid and Plum intersection again, look to your right. You should see another entrance into Mulberry Alley. Head into the alley until you reach a small chain-link fence which should be to your right. Do a 180 around the end of the chain-link fence and you should see another Collectable ahead of you near the wall: =============== ++[Collectable #90]++ =============== After acquiring the Collectable then head back around the fence and continue through the alley until you hear Jenny's voice. When you do then angle left at the corner to find the building she lives in. Enter the apartment and go up to the second floor where Apartment 11 is. Ring the Doorbell and enter her apartment. She will surprise you with a cake. Blow Out the Candles and you will be able to talk to her. You can pretty much tell her anything, including the truth, and the conversation will end up the same. She wants you to stay for awhile and tells you that Butcher came for him and wants Jackie to call. She has the number by her phone. Get the number and Jenny will ask Jackie to sit with her. It is also here that you can get an easy Achievement. You need to sit with Jenny for awhile watching the movie "To Kill A Mockingbird". After about three minutes, about halfway through the main credits, then you will get the: >>"Romantic" Achievement ********************** One interesting thing about the televisions that you find throughout the game. You can actually watch full length cartoons, music videos, and even movies. If you wanted to you could sit in Jenny's apartment and watch "To Kill A Mockingbird" in its entirety. Look right towards the Phone and you should get the prompt that will let you get up and leave. Go to the Phone and call Butcher Joyce. He will tell you to meet him at The Green Olive Grove Restaurant (in Doyer's Alley) where he is doing a cleanup after the chef got killed. You need to go to the kitchen entrance at Doyer's Alley near Jenny's apartment. Leave the apartment and, as you reach the door, you will get a nasty page from Paulie. After you exit the apartment and head towards Victoria St. then you will see someone getting chased by a couple of Goons looking for Jackie. Blow out a couple of nearby lights (if you haven't done so already) and use Creeping Dark to deal with the Goons. After Devouring them then retract Creeping Dark and de-manifest. Go to Victoria St, turn left at the corner, and talk to the man you saved, Pete Chen. Explain the Situation and he will give you: =============== ++[Collectable #44]++ =============== Now go forward to the corner of Victoria and George streets. Then Butcher suggests that you take down Paulie before he does the same to Jackie. He also suggests that you hurt Paulie's business enough to get the Chicago Families to get rid of Paulie. He says that you should go after Dutch Oven Harry who is one of Paulie's partners. You need to go through the Whitefish Alley Pool Hall to get to Dutch Oven Harry. As the conversation ends, you hear the Cops. Butcher tells Jackie to go back into the restaurant. When you go back into the restaurant, pull out your Pistols and shoot out the Light Control Panel which is right next to the kitchen door. You will also be threatened by Captain Shrote who wants you to come out with your hands up. However, he has no interest in taking you in alive. So head back to the kitchen entrance door and manifest The Darkness. Then use Creeping Dark and head to the dining room. At this point the SWAT team has managed to bust through one of the walls and are making their entrance. Use the Creeping Dark to Devour them. Make sure none of the three SWAT members get to your position. Since they wield Combat Shotguns they can kill you before you can fully retract the Creeping Dark. Two more SWAT members will come through the main entrance. Kill them with the Creeping Dark before they get to you. After Devouring all available Hearts then head to the main entrance. When you get outside, blow out the two lights. When you get closer to the nearby trash bin then you will be attacked by a Police helicopter so hang inside the doorway. When it goes away, just stand outside the main entrance and activate Creeping Dark. Head toward the Police cars ahead. Devour the Cops so you aren't forced back too soon. After killing all four Cops then retract Creeping Dark then proceed out to the parking lot and to the metal archway for the Restaurant. De-manifest The Darkness for now. When you get to the Police car near the metal archway then you should see a Mailbox across the street. To the left of the Mailbox is an alley. Approach the alley and you will be attacked by a Police helicopter. Enter the alley but go in just a little bit. At the end of the alley is a chain-link fence that will close and lock on you and you will be attacked by a pair of Cops. Just ahead of you is a little nook with a trash bin. Just above it and to the left is a vent. Blow out the nearby lights and use Creeping Dark to enter the vent. When you enter the vent turn left and proceed forward. Continue forward and you will see another vent at the end. But, before you get to the vent, you will find: =============== ++[Collectable #55]++ =============== After obtaining the Collectable then attack the vent ahead and proceed out and down. Devour the two Cops and then Destroy the Lock to open the gate. Retract Creeping Dark and go through it. After you get past the gate, stop. You are now on Bass St. (even though it is nothing more than an over glorified alley). Turn right and send Creeping Dark out through the alley and toward Clark St. (after shooting out any nearby lights). As you near the street then you will encounter a approaching Police Car and two Cops will exit. Devour them and this will get you a little closer to obtaining full Darkness Level sooner. But, before you retract Creeping Dark, there is something else you can do. Next to the front of the Police car, to the left, is a Tourist Information Map and a Telephone Booth. Inside this Telephone Booth is: ============== ++[Collectable #7]++ ============== After obtaining the Collectable, retract Creeping Dark and proceed to Clark St. As you near the street then the Police helicopter will re-appear and hover to your left. From here, turn around and go back through the alley you came from and to the Police cars outside the restaurant. Then turn right and you should see the top of the Subway stairs. Climb over the trash bin and into the open area. On the right side of the open area is a set of stairs leading down to Dutch Oven Harry's hideout. Before I go any further I should point out that this place is where you can get three Achievements. Two can only be done here and the third is optional. Before going up to the door, switch to your Combat Shotgun then back to your hands. This will help with one of the Achievements. For starters, go up to the door and it will be answered by Dmitri Mihailov. Give him the answer he is looking for and he will let you enter and suggests you talk to Roach. After getting past him then continue forward and you will encounter Little Teaford and Bobby Caballero. Just to Bobby's right is a barrel with a pair of Pistols on top. Continue past them and you will enter the "living room" with three more Goons (Bill Hagensen, Ernesto Macabeo, Jerry Wodskow). On the other side of the "living room" is another hallway which will get you to Roach. When you reach Roach's room then you should see another Collectable on the floor near the table lamp and Combat Shotgun: ============== ++[Collectable #9]++ ============== Grab the Combat Shotgun and go up to Roach. After asking him about Harry then you should acquire the following Achievement: >>"Ghandi" Achievement ******************** You need to walk up to Roach without any hostilities and ask about Dutch Oven Harry. If you go into the hideout and kill everybody then you will not get this Achievement. When Roach finishes up the phone call then he will then attack you. At this point you might want to go after the optional Achievement: >>"Knuckle, Meet Face" Achievement ******************************** Get behind Roach and use the Fire Right Button to pull out the Combat Shotgun then use the Left Fire Button to melee with it and smack Roach. After about three hits then you should kill Roach and get the Achievement. At this point you can go ahead and kill the remaining Goons within the hideout so you can proceed. However, if you want, you can do Checkpoint Restart and try for the third Achievement: >>"Gunslinger" Achievement ************************ This is the only place you can do this Achievement because there are only seven Goons in this enclosed controlled area. The important thing to know is that, to best get this Achievement, you must properly place yourself within the hideout. Before you get to the hideout, whip out the Pistols then switch back to your hands. This will ensure that you have the correct weapons in hand later. When you enter the hideout, head straight for the "living room". When you enter the "living room", look to your right. You should see the wall curve toward a corner with a pallet. You need to put yourself in this corner and turn to face the three Goons in this room. This will put you in a position to be as close to as many Goons as possible (three in this room plus the two you just passed). Now rotate the camera slightly so you are "aiming" at Ernesto (who is leaning against the wall). Push the Right Fire Button to pull out the Pistols and the reticle should be close to Ernesto's head. Aim at Ernesto's head and kill him with a headshot as the Goons are trying to get into position (and start the clock). Next, quickly kill Bill and Jerry with headshots as they are trying to get up off the couch. Then turn the corner and face Bobby and Little Teaford. Shoot at Bobby first since he has a Shotgun. Keep your gun high to get headshots. Do *NOT* move forward or you may get yourself into potential Execution Moves which will waste valuable time. After killing Bobby and Little Teaford then go after Dmitri. Do not go forward after Dmitri but stay near Bobby/Little Teaford. Dmitri is the wild card here. He is quite tough so it may take several shots to put him down unless you get him with a headshot. If he manages to shoot out the light control panel near the entrance then quickly manifest The Darkness so you can use Darkness Shield. Dmitri is the one you may lose the most time with so it is important to try for a quick headshot. Once Dmitri is down then run toward Roach as fast as you can. When you get to him, shoot him up as quickly as possible to get the Achievement. If you don't get the Achievement, do Checkpoint Restart and try again. It should be pointed that if you Devoured every Heart that you have come across, including the four extra Hearts from the Lower East Side and the five from Pier 19, then you should move up to the next Darkness Level. After you have killed everybody in the hideout, collected weapons, and Devoured Hearts, then shoot out the light control panel near the entrance to knock out the lights, manifest The Darkness, and head over back to Roach's body then talk to Harry over the intercom. It doesn't matter how you answer, two more Goons will appear. One will enter the hideout with the other just outside. Use Creeping Dark to take down the one in the hideout and the other outside if you can. Once both Goons are down, head outside. You will find a fire escape ladder has been lowered. But there is another Goon on the first fire escape level. Kill him with a Pistol headshot the climb the ladder and Devour his Heart. Go up to the third fire escape level and enter the open window. Go to the lamp on the left side of the room and shoot it out. As you are doing so you will get another nasty page from Paulie. From this room, use Creeping Dark to go to the living room of this apartment and kill the two Goons there. After that, retract Creeping Dark and proceed into the living room. When you get into the living room, look to your right and you should see an entranceway into the kitchen. You should see two Pistols on the table plus one Collectable on the floor: =============== ++[Collectable #57]++ =============== Collect everything and head toward the front door. After you open the door you will see stairs to your left. Two Goons will come down to attack you. Kill them both and Devour Hearts. Don't go up the stairs yet. To the right of the door is a blocked off stairwell. But, just below the wall that blocks the stairwell, is another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #58]++ =============== After that, head up the stairs. Go through the next door to knock down a Goon. Shoot him and Devour his Heart. Shoot out the lights and use Creeping Dark to enter the next room where you will find three more Goons. Devour them then enter the kitchen area. **Alternate Method **************** If you're good at using Creeping Dark then you can stand just inside the darkened hideout and use it to clear out the entire building before proceeding to Dutch Oven Harry (and obtaining the Collectables along the way. As you get into the kitchen then you will hear Dutch Oven Harry proclaiming that Estacado is approaching and he is telling Paulie to blow up the orphanage. The orphanage? Turn right and you should see the door to the Men's Room. Enter and head to the stalls. In the leftmost stall is where you can find another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #95]++ =============== After exiting the Men's Room then turn right and head down the corridor and to the next track. Directly across the tracks is another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #10]++ =============== After obtaining this Collectable then jump back to the platform. Before heading to the St. Mary's Orphanage Station I am going to do a couple of quick Side-Quests here at Fulton St. Station. Find the Women's Restroom and you should see a woman with a white and gray jacket hanging around the train tracks nearby. She is Charlene Warburton and she will wager that you can't pick up all four coins she throws onto the train tracks before the train comes by. Accept her challenge: >>Side-Quest: Charlene Warburton ****************************** She will go to a point between two green poles. Go down the platform a bit then jump onto the tracks and turn in her general direction. When she throws the coins, they will go in a wide spread. By putting yourself in this position then you can get all four coins in one pass before the train comes. When the coins hit the ground, quickly proceed up the tracks tapping the Use Button as fast as you can. If you do this right then you should get all four coins. Then jump onto the platform before you are hit by the train. If you somehow didn't get all four coins then you will have to try again. When you have successfully acquired all four coins then talk to her using the Use Button and she will give you the following Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #42]++ =============== After that Side-Quest then head to the opposite side of the platform. Here you will see a woman with a tan jacket hanging around the track. She is Ingrid Pulanski and she is upset over the bracelet she lost on the tracks. Agree to help her: >>Side-Quest: Ingrid Pulanski *************************** Go to one end of the tracks and back enough away from them to make the train move. Then jump onto the tracks, move to go against the platform, and move forward down the tracks looking for a small flashing object which should be just underneath the platform. Keep an ear out for the train and jump back onto the platform when it arrives. Then back away from the train to get it to move away then jump back onto the tracks and continue the search. When you find the Bracelet then pick it up, jump back onto the platform, and give it back to her. It should be pointed out that you can get the Bracelet before you talk to her to start the Side-Quest. Then, after talking to her, back away for a bit then approach her again to give her the Bracelet. As a reward she will give you another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #41]++ =============== After this then head up to the St. Mary's Orphanage station to find Jenny and Jimmy the Grape. They are looking at a television which is tuned to a newscast from the St. Mary's Orphanage fire. After the newscast ends, Jimmy pulls Jackie away so he can talk to him. Jimmy has had enough of Paulie's antics and suggests that someone torch the money that Paulie has stored for the Chicago Families over in Grinder's Lane. This man, Frank Mortis, is a little freaked out about the activities inside the Grinder's Lane Abattoir. He will also tell you of a control box that will open the gate leading inside the place. Go along the wall and to the corner. Then just go past the corner and stop. You should hear a couple of Goons talking amongst themselves. Shoot out a couple of nearby lights. Then send Creeping Dark over the wall and attack the panel which will allow the gate to open. Then find and Devour the two Goons. Retract Creeping Dark and enter the Abattoir area. Head up the short steps then stop. Shoot out a couple of nearby lights then send Creeping Dark to the wall ahead of you and up. Then turn right and go around the corner. You should be above a tin roof and it is on this roof where you can find another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #62]++ =============== After obtaining the Collectable, retract Creeping Dark then angle right and under the tin roof. Here you should see three doors. The one on the left is not functional. The one in the middle is functional and the one to the right is a Workshop. Go and enter the Workshop. Here you will find some Gasoline. Take it then head to the middle door and enter the Abattoir proper. As you enter each freezer, shoot out lights. When you reach the fourth freezer then you will encounter three Goons. Stay in the doorway and pick them off with your Pistols. After you kill them then go just a little inside the room and shoot out a couple of nearby lights. At this point then you will be attacked by two more Goons including one with Sub-Machine Guns. Pick them off before they can do much damage. After killing these two Goons then go and devour Hearts and collect weapons then head to the next door. When you enter the next room, start shooting out lights. Then a Goon will come through the door on the other side of the room. Pick him off. As you approach the door that the Goon opened then you will find another door to the right. Behind this door is where the money is kept and is being guarded by three Goons. You can shoot out the window and kill the Goons but I have something else in mind. Enter the room that the first Goon came from and to the next door leading to the cafeteria (shooting out the lights as you go). When you open the door to the cafeteria then you will find two more Goons. Pick them off from your position then shoot out lights and Devour Hearts. Open the door leading to the hallway and you should hear a television. Shoot out the two nearby lights then send Creeping Dark to the door which should be left of your position. Open the door and enter. Here you should see a Goon who is engrossed in the cartoon he is watching. Devour him then retract. Enter the room to your right and shoot out the light. Down on the floor in the corner is a vent. Send Creeping Dark to it, attack it to dislodge it, then send it inside. Go up the vent and you should encounter another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #36]++ =============== Creep ahead just a little bit and you should enter the room with the money and Goons. But just ahead of you on the far wall is a flashing panel. This is an electric cabinet and, if smashed, will open the door and the Goons will exit and head to your position. Retract Creeping Dark then send Creeping Dark back into the hallway and cafeteria. Then pick off the Goons as they either head your way or wander just outside the room they were in. After killing the three Goons retract Creeping Dark then head back into the hallway. However, just go straight ahead and to the SECOND door on the right side of the hallway. Inside you should find a desk just ahead of you. Just behind the desk is: =============== ++[Collectable #11]++ =============== From here, go back through the cafeteria and to the room where the money is being kept. Set the money on fire then leave the Abattoir area and to the Subway stairs. But, stop just before you go down the Subway stairs. If you look at the stairs and then just above them you will see a boxcar-like structure with three windows. Send Creeping Dark up the wall and then into one of the three windows of this structure (after smashing out one of them). On one side of this structure you will find: =============== ++[Collectable #60]++ =============== Retract Creeping Dark and look to your left. You should see a chain-link fence. This leads to the St. Mary's Orphanage area but you can't go this way from here yet. Now go back down the stairs into the Subway and head to a nearby Phone. Call the Collectable numbers then head back to the St. Mary's Orphanage Station. Here you will find Jimmy the Grape who is struggling to get up. He was attacked from behind by Paulie and Capt. When you do then you will get the: >>"Beginnings" Achievement ************************ This soldier will emit black smoke which indicates a new Darkness Power. Devouring this Heart will give you the Demon Arm. Now that you more than one Darkness Power you use the D-Pad Up/Down to switch between them. After acquiring the Demon Arm power, take a look around. The soldier you just killed is wearing a dark uniform and a pointy helmet with crosses on the collar. This is the uniform worn by German Soldiers in World War I. But these soldiers here are different. They are technically undead. If you attack them they will go down. But if you leave them alone for a bit then they will get back up. The only way to keep them down is if you Devour their Hearts before they get back up. This is why your stats for most of the Darkness Master Achievement, especially Demon Arm, won't go up when dealing with these guys. Now go back to the three dead soldiers that the German Soldier executed. If the solider you just killed is German then these fellows are the Allied Soldiers. But, when you look closely at them, you will see that their heads appear to be stitched together. Odd. Okay, go back to the room where you started and grab all of the Pistols and Rifles you find. Don't forget to grab the two Pistols in the broken crate not far from where you killed the German Soldier. Now go past the dead German Soldier and to the blockage not far from him. You will also find another Pistol just before you get to it. Shoot out the nearby lights and use Demon Arm to destroy the blockage. It is also recommended to use the Demon Arm to destroy the lights to conserve ammo. While you still have the Demon Arm out, take down the German Soldier that comes from the room just behind the blockage then Devour his Heart to keep him down. Do the same to the German Soldier approaching from the other end of the corridor. Go into the room where the first German Soldier emerged to find additional weapons. Go to where you killed the second German Soldier and you will find a nook in the trench. Here you will find a Rifle and some Binoculars. Look through the Binoculars and you will see a weird looking bird-like creature sitting on a rock. After looking through the Binoculars then turn around but don't move. Switch to Creeping Dark then send it forward and up the trench wall. When it gets to the top of the trench wall then send it forward over the next wall and you should see the foundation of a ruined house. Turn right and you should find: =============== ++[Collectable #14]++ =============== You may notice that the Collectable looks different than the ones you have found before. These are envelopes and must be mailed to be unlocked. But you can't do it in this chapter. Just collect them and we will mail them later. Retract Creeping Dark, turn right then back up against the wall. The Binoculars should be to your right. Activate Creeping Dark then send up over the trench wall. When you get to the top then angle right and go over the barbed wire fence. After going over the barbed wire fence then turn left and go up the wall and over. On the other side is a German Soldier. Devour the German Soldier then retract Creeping Dark and move forward through the trench and around the next corner. As you progress down the next trench section then you will see a bi-plane crash ahead of you. The crash will also eject its pilot which is another German Soldier. This soldier is also emitting black smoke which indicates a new Darkness Power. Devouring this Heart will give you the ability to call up Kamikaze Darklings. Call up a Kamikaze Darkling so you can destroy the blockage in the small tunnel. Then send Creeping Dark into the L-shaped tunnel and Devour the two German Soldiers in the next room. Retract then go into the small room to get another Rifle and exit. As you proceed then you will encounter another German Soldier who comes around the corner but is taken down by an explosion before he can harm you. Devour his Heart and turn the next corner. You will find another German Soldier. Shoot him and Devour his Heart. When you turn the next corner, you will see a barrel on the ground. Go up to this barrel and stop. Shoot out the nearby lights then send Creeping Dark around the next corner. Here you will find two more German Soldiers. Devour their Hearts so they stay down. Next, head to where the two now-dead German Soldiers are and stop. You are on a path that leads out of the Trenches. But there is something I'm going to do first before going any further. To the right side of this path is some ruins and four German Soldiers. Devouring them will give you four addition Hearts getting you closer to maximum Darkness Level sooner. I recommend using Creeping Dark to attack them from your current position. You can also send Creeping Dark ahead from this area and to the bird-like creature you saw in the Binoculars earlier. This creature is called Pestilence, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. At the feet of Pestilence is: =============== ++[Collectable #63]++ =============== Retract Creeping Dark and proceed out of the Trenches. Now go left and up a small hill with a tree. Once past the tree then you will encounter another ruined house. Beyond this house is a chasm with a bunker on the other side. However, what I'm looking for is a wooden hatch in the floor of this ruined house. Once you find it, shoot it out and go down. Here, you will find a downed German Soldier (Devour his Heart), a Rifle and Pistol, and: =============== ++[Collectable #13]++ =============== After that then climb out of this cellar, manifest The Darkness, and proceed to where Pestilence is. There is a bridge to the right of it that leads to next area. However, Pestilence will occasionally emit a powerful sonic emission which will hurt you. By having The Darkness manifested you can take advantage of the Darkness Shield and limit the damage Pestilence can inflict. If you didn't get Collectable #63 with the Creeping Dark then you have to go up to Pestilence to get it before crossing the bridge. Once across the bridge, and past Pestilence, then you will encounter two more German Soldiers. Attack then with your Pistols and Devour them then proceed forward and do the same to the next pair of German Soldiers you come across. If you proceed past the nearby barrel then you will find a couple of Pistols. From here, continue forward and you will find a large bunker. Naturally, the door is locked. So shoot out the light above it and send Creeping Dark through the window of the gun bunker to the right of the main door. Devour the German Soldier you find then proceed into the main room.Devour the German Soldier you find in the main room and do the same with the other two in the corridor the starts near the main door. After dealing with them, go and unlock the main door so you can enter. As you are killing off these German Soldiers then you will also gain a Darkness Level. After cleaning out the room of ammo, head to the next door. However, it is locked so shoot out the nearby lights and use Creeping Dark to go into one of the small windows above this door. Devour the German Soldier on the other side and then unlock the door. Retract Creeping Dark and proceed. From this door, if you go right then left you will find another corridor with a German Soldier at the end. Devour him. From this same door, if you go left then right you will find a clear corridor with a box of explosives at the end. Just at the entrance of this corridor you will find a Darkling Portal. Call up a Kamikaze Darkling and he will destroy the box of explosives, which will open a hole in the wall, so you can proceed. Oh, before I continue, it should be noted that if you are good at using Creeping Dark then you can Devour all five German Soldiers and unlock both doors while still outside. When you get through the hole the Kamikaze made then turn left. The bunker you just exited should be to your left. Follow the curved wall of the bunker to the other side. You should be almost directly across from the hole you exited from. Now send Creeping Dark along the wall. Once you get past the first abutment then look down. You should now see: =============== ++[Collectable #38]++ =============== Retract Creeping Dark and proceed away from the bunker area. De-manifest the Darkness and retract weapons. After awhile then you will encounter more trenches. However, these are the Allied Trenches and are filled with Allied Soldiers. If you look closely at them then you will find they all have heads that are stitched together. Even more odd is the fact that each stitched piece appears to come from a different head making them look even more surreal. At one end of the trenches you will find Captain Eldridge and Corporal Greenwood. Captain Eldridge will remark that you are with "that other Yank" in the Village. Corporal Greenwood will point to a tunnel that you must go through to get to the Village. As you go down the ladder then you will be warned by The Darkness to stay away but proceed anyway. Proceed forward past the soldier, down the next small set of stairs, and stop at the bridge that has a sign that says "Hills" next to it. Not far from it is another bridge but that leads to Famine, another one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. From the Hills bridge, turn left, proceed forward, and climb down the ladder. So The Darkness brought him here, into some twisted version of World War I, while it repairs Jackie's body. Anthony also tells of a couple of weapons that can be used to control The Darkness. He also sends Jackie out to find them. They can be found in the Hills area from a man on a cross. To reach it, shoot out all nearby lights. Turn to look at the door you came from then send Creeping Dark up the wall to the right of the door. Once on the wall, turn right and go along the wall to the platform. Go past the L-shaped pipe to find: =============== ++[Collectable #87]++ =============== Retract Creeping Dark and proceed down the stairs to the lower level. If you explore this area a bit then you will find multiple weapons laying around. You will also find a couple of undead soldiers just laying around but you can't get any extra Hearts from them. At one end of the lower level then you will find a corridor with a large bell stuck in it. Use Demon Arm to pull it out and place it inside the nook just to the right of this corridor. Then follow this corridor until you get outside. Beyond the concrete stairs is a large foggy, rainy area. You will also see a pathway leading to the Hills. Unfortunately, there are a lot of German Soldiers patrolling this area. To better navigate this area, here is what I am going to do. The stairs where you are at is *SOUTH*, the Hills are *NORTH*, the area right of the pathway is *EAST*, and the area on the left of the pathway is *WEST*. To deal with the German Soldiers it is best to use Creeping Dark. Send Creeping Dark down the stairs and to the body near it for a Heart. Then proceed to the *EAST* to find and Devour German Soldiers. As you roam around the *EAST* area then you should find a ruined house. Go to this house and to the fireplace within. Here, you will find another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #79]++ =============== When you are done with the *EAST* area then proceed to the path to find and Devour German Soldiers. Then proceed to the *WEST* area to find the remainder of German Soldiers. Excluding the free Heart near the path there should be a total of twelve German Soldiers patrolling this area prior to the Hills. If you get all thirteen Hearts in this area then you should go past 110 Hearts and up another Darkness Level. Once you clear enough of the German Soldiers out then proceed up the path. Every now and then you will get blasted with a lightning strike. If you have The Darkness manifested then it will automatically de-manifest. Keep it de-manifested until you reach the end of the path. When the path ends and the ground begins to slope up then you are at the Hills. Proceed up slightly and you should see a path to a bunker to your left. In the trench for this bunker is another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #80]++ =============== You may also see three additional German Soldier in the lower area ahead shooting at you. But, for some reason, you cannot get any Hearts from them. You can attack them with Creeping Dark but you cannot Devour Hearts. However, they will stay down and won't get back up. Form the Collectable, go back to where you turned off and proceed up to the top of the hill. Here you should see a large tree. Manifest The Darkness and it will be revealed to be The Crucified (which is also Death, another of the Four Horsemen). Go up to The Crucified and Answer the Question. After answering his question then you will gain another Darkness Power: the Darkness Guns. From the top of the hill, send Creeping Dark down and snag a free Heart at the beginning of the pathway. All in all, there are a total of eight German Soldiers patrolling the area north of the Hills. So, with the free Heart, you can get up to nine additional Hearts and acquire maximum Darkness Level that much sooner. Another option is to go in and use the Darkness Guns on the Soldiers. After dealing with the three Soldiers, look around. There is a very large door on one end of this room. You need to empty the water chamber before proceeding further. You should also blow out every light you encounter with the Darkness Guns from this point in the level. Take the nearby stairs upward. As you near the top you will be attacked by three additional German Soldiers. Use the Darkness Guns on them as you approach the top. It should be noted that these Soldiers won't appear until you get near the top so you cannot use Creeping Dark ahead of you to clear the way. After Devouring the Soldiers Hearts, look around. You will see a door that says "Pumpe". From here, turn right and proceed forward to the wall. After you stop at the wall, turn right. Then send Creeping Dark forward, over the railing, and down the wall. As you proceed down you will see: =============== ++[Collectable #17]++ =============== After obtaining the Collectable then retract Creeping Dark and proceed through the "Pumpe" door. After going through the second door then you will enter a room with four pillars. Here you will be attacked by three German Soldiers. Shoot out the nearby lights in the short corridor behind you so you can have enough darkness to use the Darkness Guns on the German Soldiers from the doorway. An alternate method is to stay outside and use Creeping Dark to ambush and Devour them. After dealing with all three German Soldiers then go into the room. From the second door you will see a small set of stairs leading up to your left. After you climb those stairs then you should see a small hallway leading to a door with a rounded top. This is one of the two pump rooms. Go inside and Turn Valve to release some of the water. From this pump room, go forward to the other side of the larger room then turn left. Proceed through another hallway and follow the path to the second pump room. However, the pump has no power and you must find a way to restore it. Not far from the pump is the body of a German Soldier. This one is emitting black smoke which indicates a new Darkness Power. Here you will enter a very large room. Look to your right about 45 degrees and find a higher platform and a series of stairs. You will also find four German Soldiers up there. From the doorway, use your Darkness Guns to take them down. But, before you do that, it is recommended to destroy the two nearby lights - one directly above the doorway and one on the ceiling just inside the room. Switch to your Pistols, go inside the room, turn around, destroy the light above the doorway, then go back inside the smaller room. From inside the smaller room then shoot out the other light then switch to your Darkness Guns to take down the German Soldiers. After taking down the German Soldiers then go up to the platform and Devour Hearts. Then take the stairs leading to the top level. As you near the top then you will be attacked by another Soldier. Follow it to where it bends left and you will find another Collectable on the floor near the Darkling Portal: =============== ++[Collectable #18]++ =============== Keep The Darkness manifested and open the door that leads outside. When you do then you will hear a loud explosion that will cause damage to you. Go outside to find a giant train/cannon (War, it is called - another one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse). Now, go to the very front of the cannon, to the pointed end, and look at the cannon. From here, turn 45 degrees left and you should see a giant gate. Proceed to the gate and, more specifically, to the right side of it. When you get there then you should see another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #27]++ =============== Turn around and look at the cannon. Go to the rear of the cannon to find and kill three German Soldiers with the Darkness Guns. Then climb the ladder and enter the door into the cannon. Inside there are five German Soldiers, all of them firing at you. From the doorway, use the Darkness Guns to take down all five of them while blowing out all nearby lights. Then enter the cannon and Devour Hearts as you proceed. When you get through the first door then you should see a large boiler with a red star on it. Go down to the lower platform and look at the boiler. You should see a flashing object on the floor under it. This is another Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #68]++ =============== Use Creeping Dark to retrieve the Collectable, retract, and proceed through and up the stairs. Go back to the main Pier 19 area and to the large red crane. There are also some smaller container crates nearby. Underneath these crates is a Collectable. To get to this Collectable you need to move the crates with the Demon Arm. However, there are two workers nearby who are complaining about the crane being jammed. By kneeling down behind the altar then you will make yourself harder to hit when the SWAT start shooting and you will have use of the Darkness Shield. In addition, you will be standing on top of a Darkling Portal. If you wish then you can send out a Berzerker and a Kamikaze Darkling to attack the Police when they appear and send out more when they are are killed. This is a good way to add toward the "Legendary Summoner" Achievement if you wish to use the Darklings. Use the Tactical Rifle on the SWAT at the other end of the cathedral. Kill all but one then send out Creeping Dark to Devour the Hearts of the four dead SWAT then Devour the remaining one. After awhile Capt. Shrote will turn on some large floodlights to make it harder for you to use your powers. However, the floodlights won't reach your position so you are safe. Two more SWAT will rappel down. Use the Tactical Rifle on them then send out Creeping Dark to Devour their Hearts. There an additional three up on the upper level. There is a singular SWAT at the opposite end and one on each side. Leave the one at the other end alone. Kill the closest SWAT at each side then two more will rappel down to ground level. Use the Tactical Rifle on them then two more will rappel down. Kill them then send out Creeping Dark to Devour their Hearts. If you thought about using Creeping Dark to go up to the upper level and Devour the dead Cops for extra Hearts, don't bother. The moment it gets up there then it will automatically retract. However, that doesn't mean that you can't get the Hearts of the dead Cops up there. Thanks to a glitch you can creep along the underside of the floor and Devour the Hearts from below. Go up under one side then get Creeping Dark to crawl on the underside of the floor and move around until you get the prompt. Do the same to the other side. After acquiring all of the available Hearts, which should put you at about 240 for the game so far, then go back to the altar and kill the last SWAT. When you do that then Capt. Shrote will throw some flash-bang grenades to knock you out. Shrote will go to the other end of the cathedral to fix it. At this point you will be given several choices on how to talk to Shrote's cronies. Each time they talk to you they will block the light and allow The Darkness to get stronger. It doesn't matter what order you do the choices. The last choice will allow you to use the Demon Arm. You need to climb onto the tank and use the guns. Anthony will drive. This part of the game is essentially a rail shooter. You have no control over where you go, just where you shoot. Every now and then Anthony will point out where enemy planes will appear. Shooting down enemy planes is a requirement for another Achievement: >>"Take a Look at the Sky" Achievement ************************************ You need to shoot down six airplanes but this isn't very hard to do. This is easier if you have the subtitles on since it will make it easier to aim your guns in the proper direction before the planes show up. Just keep your finger on the trigger and you should be able to get this Achievement easily. In addition to shooting at planes you also have to contend with German Soldiers, tanks, and pillboxes. Just shoot at the tanks for a few seconds to blow them up and shoot into the windows of the pillboxes to kill the German Soldiers inside. Eventually you will end up at a large bunker and crash inside. The tank is on its side and you can't get out. Anthony will go to get something to help you. But he is then attacked by a creature you can't see. He goads it into attacking him instead of Jackie. However, the creature gets the best of Anthony and sends him flying. Then this large creature, called the Shlogg, grabs the tank and lifts it up. Now you must defend yourself from this creature. Use the guns to shoot at its ugly face. Every now and then the Shlogg will smack the tank into something in an attempt to hurt you but keep on shooting. After about a minute of shooting then you should finally bring down the Shlogg and end the threat. When you are finished then you will be free of the tank. The dead Shlogg should be ahead of you. To the left of the dead Shlogg is a door. Enter the door and turn right to find another Collectable on the floor: =============== ++[Collectable #83]++ =============== Now exit the room and go past the dead Shlogg. The shell cart will go along some tracks but this is much shorter than the tank section you did earlier. You also have the use of a gun but that isn't of much use here. Near the end, as you approach the cannon, you will be besieged by six German Soldiers. When you are allowed to leave the shell cart, go down and head to the end of the concrete bunker at the rear of the train. He is upset that Paulie has replaced the regular "earners" within the family with some thugs from the West Coast. He wants Jackie to take these Goons down. It should be noted that this is a five part Side-Quest and I am going to combine them with other Side-Quests to minimize travel: >>Side-Quest: Vinny Mortarello [Part 1] ************************************* You need to kill a Goon tailing Aunt Sarah. He will probably be near her house on the Lower East Side. When you get this Side-Quest started then take a train to Canal Street Station. Now turn around and head up the stairs leading up to the Chinatown Station. You will find George Hadel who you didi a Side-Quest earlier in the game. But he is on the ground in pain. As you approach then he gets back up. He tells you that Compton Scarr has beaten him up and stolen his harmonica. Help him again: >>Side-Quest: George Hadel [Part 2] (Start) ***************************************** You need to recover his harmonica from Compton Scarr. And in return he gives you a trinket that, at this time, has no particular use. Now head back down into the subway and toward the Lower East Side. While still at the bottom of the Subway stairs at the Lower East Side, use Demon Arm to smash the nearby lights then switch to Creeping Dark. Send it up and towards Aunt Sarah's place. Nearby you should see a singular person with an orange jumpsuit. This is Vinny's first target. Devour him. If you stand still after the attack then you will hear his backup trying to contact him. This will also complete Part 1 of Vinny's Side-Quest. Retract Creeping Dark and move to a spot between the Mailbox across the street from Aunt Sarah's place and the Telephone Booth. You should see the backup arrive and stop partway up the street. Use Creeping Dark to Devour the four Goons then retract and de-manifest. Switch to Demon Arm. Then post the letters you got from your last trip to Otherworld in the nearby Mailbox. This will unlock more Collectables. Stay close to the wall to your left and proceed to the Whitefish Pool Hall. When you get there then you should hear some music. Go behind the container crates to find the gang that Terrence told you about. Since you are disarmed they won't do anything. One of them may be going back and forth along the side of the container crates. Stand near the top of the stairs leading down into the Pool Hall and look at the gang. After talking to them then head out of Aunt Sarah's Apartment and to..... 0=-=-=-=-=-=-0 / Chapter Five \ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ | >CTI5. Grinder's Lane (Part 2) 0 \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-/ \ Chapter Five / 0-=-=-=-=-=-=0 When I was here earlier doing a Side-Quest for Vinny I stopped at the corner near the Abattoir. I am going to stop here again and send Creeping Dark around the corner. Devour the three Goons by the cars then enter the door at the far end. When you get to the end of the long hallway, a Goon will emerge from the door at the end. Devour him and then go through the door to the Break Room. Devour the Goon within and then proceed through the smaller room and into the large room with the tables. Devour the single Goon there then retract Creeping Dark. Enter the building and make your way to the large room. Switch to your Darkness Guns and blow out the lights. Two Goons will enter through the side door and two more will enter from the door at the end of the room. Use the Darkness Guns to kill them then Devour Hearts and proceed through the side door. Enter the Workshop door, where you got the Gasoline the first time you were here, and use the radio and Call In The Ship. Then leave the room. But you will be approached by a car with more Goons. Go back near the Workshop door and take them down with the Darkness Guns. **Alternate Method **************** Another option is to head back the way you came. When you get to the door leading back outside, use Creeping Dark and send it through the now open gate, go around the car, and Devour the four Goons. If you have acquired every Heart you have found up to this point then this is the earliest you can acquire the: >>"Cannibal" Achievement ********************** Either way, once you have taken care of them, disarm and head back to Fulton Street Station. Pier 19 (Part 3) 0 \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-/ \ Collectables - 2 / \ Chapter Five / 0=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-0 0-=-=-=-=-=-=0 When the screen finishes loading up then you will hear some Goons talking nearby. From your position use Creeping Dark and Devour the three of them. Just ahead of them is a covered walkway near the top of the warehouses. There is a Goon there. If you're good at using Creeping Dark then just send it up there and Devour him. Or you can use the Darkness Guns to kill him then send Creeping Dark to Devour his Heart. Now head toward the crane area and you will see a lot of container crates. Stay near the back of the crates and pick off the lights with the Darkness Guns. Then send in Creeping Dark. As you climb on the catwalk you will see a door ahead of you. Go to the left of the door, climb up the wall, under the walkway, and back above the railing. Head to the stairs to your left Devouring any Goon you come across as you make your way to the Captain. Continue along the hallways and stairs, Devouring Goons, until you reach the Captain's office. Once you kill him then you have completed your objective. If you don't want to use Creeping Dark, then go on the ship and use Darkness Guns on the Goons as you go up on the ship. After you kill the Captain then it is time to go and get the Collectables that are exclusive to this area. When you go onto the catwalk leading onto the ship you will see a door ahead of you. Go through the door and, at one side of the room, you will see a set of stairs going down. Go down the stairs until you reach a larger room. Down below where you entered will be two Goons. Kill them then go down. Go through the gap in the container crates then turn right and go through the next gap in the next row of container crates. After you have done that, turn around and send Creeping Dark up the container crates and to an open area just above the gap you went through. Here you will find a Collectable: =============== ++[Collectable #86]++ =============== Go back the way you came. Kill the Goon that is waiting for you on the upper level in the larger room, climb up, and head to the main deck. When you get back outside, turn right and head to the front of the ship. You will encounter another Goon as you approach the stairs. Kill him then proceed down and under the stairs. Here you will find the last Collectable in the game: =============== ++[Collectable #94]++ =============== Now, leave the ship. As you do so you will get a urgent message from Aunt Sarah. They are under attack from Paulie's men. You need to get there ASAP. When you get off of the ship, head to the red crane and stop. Send Creeping Dark ahead and to the container crates. There are three Goons at ground level and another Goon on a walkway on one of the buildings nearby. Devour them then retract. **NOTE: If you used Creeping Dark to kill the Captain and you did not go onto the ship then you won't have to deal with these guys. From here then head to the corner leading back to then entrance of Pier 19. Near where you found the first three Goons there are four more standing behind cars. Run up to the large metal conduit box, for cover, and use Black Hole on the four of them. Another option is to stay around the corner and use Creeping Dark and Devour all of them. After they are all killed, de-manifest the Darkness but keep your Pistols out, Devour Hearts, and head back to..... 0=-=-=-=-=-=-0 / Chapter Five \ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ | >CTI7. Lower East Side (Part 5) 0 \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-/ \ Chapter Five / 0-=-=-=-=-=-=0 Head to the intersection and turn left at Clark St. Head down the street and you will see a car sticking out from the Bass St. alley. Near the car is a couple of Goons. Go around the corner and take them down with the Pistols. From there, proceed down the street and take down the two Goons at the corner. Go around the corner and head to Aunt Sarah's house. There will be Goons nearby firing at the house. Kill all of the Goons with the Pistols. **Alternate Method **************** Stop around the corner just before Bass St. and use Creeping Dark to take down all of the Goons before entering Aunt Sarah's apartment. When the area is cleared, proceed inside the apartment. Jimmy the Grape then will push down a bookcase for cover and in the process will trap you in the house. If you go inside the bedroom then you will see an old man, with most of his limbs missing, loading up weapons. You can stock up on weapons, if you need to, with him. Shortly after you enter the house then more Goons will show up in cars. They will appear in the Olive Grove Restaurant parking lot, near the Subway entrance, and just in front of the house. You cannot use The Darkness here. You must use standard weapons. Switch to your Tactical Rifle, shoot out of the windows and go for headshots to make quick kills. If you take too much damage then back away and head to the bedroom until you recover. Once most of the Goons are eliminated then some more will appear from the Subway entrance and from the dead-end area. After they are killed off then you will automatically disarm. Butcher Joyce will drive up then enter the house and move the bookcase. He remarks that the Chicago Families will be grateful that you protected Aunt Sarah. But Paulie has really crossed the line with this attack and that the Chicago Families will take him down. Then Butcher Joyce will tell you where he thinks Paulie is hiding. Paulie is hiding at an old lighthouse he is renovating hoping that Jackie doesn't find him. At this point, you will be offered the position of the Don by Jimmy the Grape. It doesn't matter what answer you give but I always go for the positive answer. Then Butcher Joyce will tell you there is a boat waiting for him at Pier 19 that will take him to the Lighthouse. From this point, leave the house and pick up the weapons the dead Goons dropped. But, before I go to Pier 19, I am going back down into the Subway and find a Phone. Call the Collectable numbers one more time and you should unlock the last of the Extra Content. And you will finally get the: >>"Completionist" Achievement *************************** After that then head back out into Lower East Side then to the Pier 19 area. When you get to the container crates then you will find some Cops. However, they are just looking around so you can leave them alone if you wish. The Lighthouse 0 \-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-/ \ Chapter Five / 0-=-=-=-=-=-=0 When you arrive here it will be daylight. But look at the sun. You will see the moon start to move in front of it. Today is the day the eclipse occurs. But, if you walk by a light, then it will smash on its own. There is something about the eclipse that gives you additional powers. Maybe this was what Anthony Estacado was trying to tell Jackie but was not given the chance. Hang by the boathouse until the sun is completely eclipsed. While you are waiting, you will be approached by two Goons. Kill them with the Pistol. When the sun is totally eclipsed manifest The Darkness and head up the stairs. The Darkness will warn you that the more you kill the closer it gets to taking full control. Switch to your Darkness Guns and kill the Goons as you climb up the stairs. When you approach the second Darkling Portal then you will see a Darkling appear without you summoning it. Continue climbing up the stairs, killing Goons as you go, until you reach the top. Once at the top of the stairs, use any Darklings that survive to attack the Goons and follow the pathway. Use the Darkness Guns to attack the Goons yourself as you proceed. Call up additional Darklings if you want. Eventually you will come up to another set of stairs. This leads to the area directly in front of Paulie's mansion. If you go to the top of the stairs you will be attacked by more Goons. In addition, multiple floodlights will be activated in front of the mansion. Hang back and pick off the floodlights while sending Darklings to distract and attack the Goons. When enough of the Goons have been cleared, head up and toward the main door. Use the nearby walls for cover as you approach and kill the two Goons at the front door. When you enter the front door then you will activate a cutscene. The Darkness takes control and attacks Paulie's men. When you regain control again then you will be on the upper level and a Darkling will attack a Goon ahead of you then head into the nearby hallway. Switch to your Pistols and kill any Goon that appears from the hallway. After awhile then The Darkness takes control again and you will go through another cutscene. When you regain control you will be outside. Kill the Goons with your weapon of choice until The Darkness takes control again. After the cutscene then you will be inside a hallway with a Goon in front of you. Kill him then proceed. You may notice that you cannot de-manifest The Darkness. Shoot out the lights and switch to the Darkness Guns. Peek around the corner and you will see some Goons at the end of the hall. When they are all killed, The Darkness will take control again. After the cutscene then you will be on the upper level near the front door again. Another Gunner Darkling will appear near you. Shoot out the lights, and head to the other side of the room and position yourself so you can look down the hallway. Kill the Goons that appear in the hallway. Also kill the Goons that appear beneath you and try to come up the stairs. Once this area has been cleared then head down and into the hallway. Shoot out the lights and get your Gunner Darkling to go ahead of you. Turn the corner and you should see some Goons at the next corner. Use your Gunner Darkling to fire back at them. You should also see a hallway junction in the middle of this hallway. You can either kill the Goons at the next corner and proceed forward around it or turn right at the junction then turn left at the next and head outside and turn left at the corner. Either path will lead you to the next cutscene. After the cutscene you will still be in the large room. Look for the fireplace. To the left of the fireplace is a door. This door leads you back to the front door. After you are back at the front door then go up the stairs and take the left path going up. Once you are upstairs then go through the door in front of you which is now unlocked. This will lead you to..... 0=-=-=-=-=-=-0 / Chapter Five \ /-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-\ | >CTI9. At this point you will be taunted by Paulie. Take the stairs leading up then go up the ladder you find along the way. This will take you to the top of the Lighthouse. Find and go through the open door then go left. Switch to your Darkness Guns. When you reach the next door you then will confront Paulie. Now open the door but don't go inside. You will see Paulie behind some cover. Fire a few shots at his head and you will take him down. This will also start another cutscene. While Paulie is begging for his life you are warned by The Darkness that, when you kill Paulie, it will finally take your soul. However, you have *NO* choice but to kill Paulie. If you try to wait for him to die on his own then Paulie will shoot back at you. In addition, the Lighthouse door will be locked so you can't leave.
