I bought far cry 2 about a week ago now, had no expectations of it. Just saw it on the shelf and thought I may as well try it. I'd heard a lot of people going on about it saying it would be amazing, awesome and as usual the classic best game ever slogans, but after playing it for a couple of hours I'd realized that it was pretty lacking in depth.
Don't get me wrong, i think it's a good game, but with all the hype surrounding it, all the huge pre order signs that were in shop windows and the screaming lunatic on the side of the road waiting outside the shop the day its released, you would think it was going to be a ground breaking game.
I have to say that the physics in the game are incredibly good though. With the fire that spreads everywhere and stuff like that. The developers did a good job with the AI as well. The main thing I'd been hearing about though was how there was going to be 50 km to explore. I found that to be a really annoying feature personally. Mostly because all the missions you received were placed at the other side of the map from where I was. All in all, Far Cry 2 is ok but I would not call it groundbreaking.
I think that I will use this incident to remind myself not to let other people influence me into buying games that they think are going to be great even though all they have seen are trailers and screenshots.
