Trend in gaming industry

I am wondering about what others have to say about the latest gaming industry. I mean there are videos, blogs and such that discuss about the recent trend that follows, but practically all of them fail to point out the innate mistakes and 'cliche' materials that are showering gaming genres today.
So I figured I get the insight on this topic from the very gamers who should be considered the 'deciding factor' in making good games.
Please share your thoughts on the topic.
REMEMBER: 1) We are trying to find out the mistakes and problems that are bugging the gaming industries. For that, talking about specific companies are not required. Instead, talking about the mistakes and their solutions would be better.
