Problems with iPod

Ok, so I've got an 80Gb classic. Its got some problems with loading videos and songs onto it and I was wondering if anyone could help out. It just freezes the computer up when i try to load pretty much anything onto it. Is this a problem with the ipod, computer, cable or what? thanks in advance!
