||BATTLEFIELD 3 REVIEW- PS3
This game is amazing, without a doubt. I was drawn into the game right from the first cinematic, which is a first person view of someone running through the dark streets of a city, cars driving by, and sirens in the distance. He runs across the street to the edge of the overpass, below is a set of train tracks, with a train heading towards you. As the train starts to pass by, you jump over the edge, on top of the back of the train. You then swing down the back of the train, smashing through the window, and kicking an enemy down in the process. As you pick up the downed enemies AK-74U, the game gives you control. You make your way to the front of the car, where you see a man in a suit, holding a detonator. After hitting a button command that shows up on screen, you crawl out the window, and jump to the next car as the train car that you just left explodes. You look at the window where the suited man attempts to shoot you, causing you to lose your grip of the train car, and fall a bit before you catch yourself again and pull yourself up to the top of the train. As you start to walk across the top of the train, the top of another train car exlodes and causes debris to start flying towards you. The game then warns you to duck to avoid the debris as a couple of enemies poke up from the side of the train and open fire on you. After taking them out you walk to the hole that was caused by the explosion and hop in, and continue to work your way through the train. After going through a car that is full of IED's, you walk through the door to the next car and get hit from behind by the suited man with his revolver. After playing just this one level, that took no more than a couple minutes to complete, I was hooked and couldn't wait for more.
The rest of the game is chalk full of realistic situations, suspensefull cinematics, and action packed gameplay. The story was well-written, and really drew you into the game. It all is put together so well, that you feel like you are the character you are playing.
The graphics in this game are fantastic. The weapons, vehicles, and overall environment are very well rendered and life-like. The NPC's reacted to each other, and the environment very well, which isn't always something that you see in alot of FPS games, and nothing is more fun then hitting a building with a tank or RPG, and seeing a giant hole in it after the dust clears.
The game in my opinion was actually a little short compared to the recent Bad Company games, and I would have liked it to be a little bit longer, but it was long enough to be satisfactory. The one thing that I didn't expect about the story was that it was kind of like Black Ops was, where your character is being interrogated, while not in the same way as your character was in Black Ops, and every mission is all flash backs as your character tells the story to the interrogators.
The sound in this game also sounds amazing. Alot of people have complained about the gun sounds in this game, but honestly, they sound alot more realistic then the gun sounds in Black Ops ever did. The sounds of the explosions sounded very nice, especially through a surround sound system, and the voice acting was awesome. The actors used actual military lingo, which I always love to see in an FPS like this one.
When it comes to comparing the multiplayer of this game, and other FPS games like Black Ops, Battlefield 3 wins by a long shot, at least in my opinion since I prefer multiplayer games to be more team-based, rather than "Lone Wolf" style. The mutiplayer maps are very well detailed, and even though some people may not like the idea of vehicles being added to online play, I assure you that DICE has balanced the vehicles, so they are better than being on foot, but definitely not a game winner as long as somebody plays an engineer and takes them out. The hit detection in Battlefield 3's multiplayer is also almost always spot on. The only times the hit detection has been a little off is when my connection started to lag a little bit.
Overall, this game was well worth the $60 I payed. The story, the multiplayer, and everything else about this game is just amazing. I would definitely recommend this game to anybody who loves a good FPS, or who has been a fan of the other Battlefield games.
Lasting Appeal: 9/10
