||The original Fable title was considered by a lot of gamers to be a turning point in the RPG genre. It crossed boundaries that no other game had crossed and offered a completely new and unique way to play and enjoy a game that relied heavily on exploration. Coming around the second time, the developers knew that they had to amp up the volume to keep the fans interested. While the first game may have been a great success, they hype for the second one was slightly overshadowed by other titles touted for release near the same time. Could the game itself hold up to stiff competition? Or would it wind up lost in the shuffle?
The gameplay in Fable 2 is exemplary. The free roaming possibilities are by far the biggest draw. You are left free to explore every nook and cranny of Albion as you see fit without any real time restrictions. The game progresses along as you do, continuing the story only as you see fit. The skill leveling system is one of the best I have ever played with. It offers you the ability to upgrade your swordsmanship, skill with ranged weapons and proficiency with magic however you want to. The graphics are incredible and very realistic. The economy in the world is never really too terrible and the game offers you the option to buy properties and rent them out to earn yourself money. The enemies are creatively made and offer up a challenge without bordering on being too difficult. Really, this game is more about the personal experience than the difficulty which was a smart move. On the whole, it is a truly satisfying experience that gamers of all kinds can enjoy.
The storyline in Fable 2 is just as exciting as the gameplay itself. Set in the gorgeous land of Albion, you begin your adventures as a young street urchin that witnesses a horrific event and is set as a player in a game that cannot be undone. You are thrust into an adventure that is both complex and compelling. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and eventually offer you a moral choice that will shape the futures of all. Without a doubt, the story here is nothing to sneeze at.
Fable 2 sticks out in my mind as one of the top RPG games for the XBox 360. While Mass Effect may take a higher seat in the minds of many, Fable 2 should not be overlooked. It has a lot to offer for anyone willing to give it a shot.
