Windows XP or 7 ? on this Laptop on General Discussions Message Board - Page 1

My brother has a laptop and it's originally Windows Vista, it's not running good and he wants to change the Windows and everything.

1GB of Ram.
150GB Hardisk.
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7300 @ 2.00 GHZ.
Graphic Card Nvidia GForce 8400 MGS.

So, should he go back to XP or move forward to 7 with this Laptop ?

I would go for XP because 1 GB of Ram is borderline.

I would strongly advice him to try Windows 7. It's a much better programmed version of Vista and speed is same as XP but at the same time u don't use outdated at 10 years OS, but stay in the future with modern OS where DX , internet explorer and many other feature's works like a charm.

Run the Windows 7 Advisor tool before trying out Windows 7 and seeing how it works. It should run on that hardware (I've put Win 7 on netbooks and it's no fast machine, but it's workable). I'd try Windows 7 first and benchmark it and if it doesn't meet up to standards, then just run Windows XP on it.

To run any version of 7 decently you need 2GB RAM.

Stick to XP.

Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA

Thanks everyone, and thanks Neo, that program helped, it seems he needs +2GB of ram, he decided to buy a 4GB ram and install 7.

Hopefully its a x64 version of Windows 7 or he will have wasted RAM.
